[Q] Question about CWM Recovery Backup - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I have theoretical question about backup performed by CWM Recovery. Need some info for school project I'm working for.
When you make backup of system and data by CWM, is it possible for person who know-how-to to extract data without device to load this backup into?
Looking forward for answer! Thanks in advance~!

Some questions: Nandroid and Rooting

Ok a few basic questions if someone would be so kind! :
- Can Nandroid and more specifically creating a backup image of the phone only be done *after* rooting?
- Would any backup image therefore include the rooted "state" of the phone if reapplied?
- By rooting the phone does the warranty through Orange become invalid?
Ta,

1. No, it can be done before.
2. Yes reapplying a rooted image will get you root
3. Don't know!
Hi Kadison,
In which case would you be so kind as to tell me how to create a backup image without rooting / point me in the right direction for more information please?
Thanks!
Go to Modaco's site, follow the instructions to the letter and you'll then be able to boot your phone into the recovery image, and perform a nandroid backup.
The backup will be stored on your SD card and can be moved to your PC.
Awesome, thanks
Hi another question from a different newbie. If I back up using Nandroid, apply another ROM (with wipe), does Nandroid then let me restore all my apps or will it restore the whole previous ROM?

My understanding is Nandroid will restore whatever ROM it was used to generate a backup.
Thanks for that. Another noobie question though, what happens to apps I've bought etc if I flash a new ROM?
Thanks

[Q] Sorry, few general questions

OK, I am pretty much completely new to android and have a few questions if someone has a few minutes.
1. Ok, first is titanium backup. When you do a ti-backup, is it a complete image of how your phone was? I did a backup before perm-rooting and then did a recovery after. I did not have contacts and a few other things I did before. BUT, after a "crash" and reboot, those things re-appeared? So I am guessing it is supposed to be a complete image of the way the phone was?
2. next, can you use the same ti-backup file no matter which rom you are running? So if I backup now, flash new rom, then recover will it work? Or would it fail from trying to restore something that isn't available in the new rom?
3. Nandroid backup. Is this just a backup of the actual rom? or is this an actual image backup too?
I will stop there for now, thanks for any help.

1: Titanium backups only apps and the data within the apps.
2: Yes
3: A nand backup will backup everything that is in your phone.
The system, cache, dalvik cache, wimax and some other stuff. When you want to backup everything that's on your phone, you do a nand backup. If anything goes wrong with a ROM you installed. Yo do a compete wipe and flash your nand backup.
Appreciate my help? Thank me
Thanks, that helps.

Make nandroid backup?

Hey guys, i can't seem to make a nandroid backup on my P7510 it just gets stuck at the part where its making the backup
Any ideas guys, and I'm looking to move to the task rom....do i really need to have the nandroid backup?
what rom are you flashing btw? use odin to flash a new CWM and try that. if that doesnt work i would recommend nixing the backup and flash task's rom. make sure you follow his instructions tho, its not to complicated. His roms are the most stable out there.

Hi xda
So ist got a question about nandroid Backups
1) so ive done a nandroid Backup of my rom and also saved the files on my PC but was concerned what would happen if i loose my phone permanently e.g. getting stoled. Could i be 100% sure that i can restore the img to any device i would get?
If not...
2) ist there the a way to emulate android on my pc and get a costum recovery for it, then being able to load the img? If so would this method be guaranteed to work?

[Help] Making a COMPLETE backup using Titanium Backup and TWRP

Hey all,
So I've dabbled in rooted Androids for a while. If you're an experienced TWRP user or ROOT user, then I don't need to get into gross details. What I want to know is how to properly use TWRP and Titanium Backup to make a COMPLETE backup of my device. Apps, settings, cache, etc.
Anyone know of a guide or able to help me out? Thank you so much in advance!
