[Q] Is NFC located in battery? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I looked at the battery, and there it talks about NFC.
So I am considering buying some more batteries to have a replacement in case of my main one goes out of energy, but are chinese ones.
That's why I ask if NFC reading "chip" is located in the battery or not, just to know if I could still read NFC tags with the other batteries before proceeding to buy them.
Many thanks!

Dunno about the 'chip' but the NFC antenna is in the battery, AFAIK.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

[Q] NFC Support?

So, I was just reading on here about the mysterious four prongs under the camera behind the battery door and someone mentioned something about possibly being able to support NFC with a replacement battery door. So, I got to thinking and googled about it and I came across this over at Android Central:
http://www.androidcentral.com/htcs-ceo-says-lte-phones-coming-2011-will-support-nfc-too
I know its from Dec. but it still caught my eye.
So, does anyone know or think that it is possible to get NFC support on the TB with a software upgrade to 2.3 and a new battery door with the sensor?
Pretty sure the prongs are for inductive charging.

I agree with this...
I also agree; however, I'm unsure as to why there are 4 prongs for that... But well maybe there is some factor to inductive charging I'm missing. But I seriously doubt NFC will be supported regardless.

I just don't see the point in it. You wouldn't be able to really use it anywhere yet. Inductive charging would be neat if the back piece isn't any bigger than it currently is, or isn't much bigger I should say.
Well, looks like it is for the wireless charging:

I would still like to have NFC support. Oh well. have to wait another 2yrs.
It can be done. But it's unlikely.
NFC can be super thin and connect via bluetooth. If it's built into the case and receives its power via the prongs, it could work. The prongs can be just for power purposes. Transfer of data from the device would work over BT.

This external charger safe?

Would this external charger be safe for geniune batteries for my vibrant?

Thanks!
Anyone approve? Just curious asap cause i wanna order it today!
I wouldn't recommend those. I have the real external charger by Samsung and it's really worth it especially for people like me who will use the vibrant for a long time.

Check the specifications:
If the input/output is the same with the batteries, then I think it's ok. Besides it's cheap. Why don't you just order and try it, and share your experience with others.
I am about to order this:

Looking for inductive charging back plate

Hello all,
The microUSB port on my Rezound has recently taken to working only at certain angles, so if I'm not paying attention when I plug it in, it sometimes doesn't charge properly. For that reason I started looking to buy the inductive charging plate, but it appears to be out of stock everywhere! Does anyone know of a place that might still be selling them, and/or would someone who has one be willing to sell it to me?
Thanks for any leads!

My bad! It is in stock at the Verizon online store. What threw me off was that it's not listed in the Rezound's accessories page for some reason.
Where you able to find the base charger anywhere? That's what I'm looking for now.

I believe any Qi supporting charging mat should work with it, the one test I saw used this one and it's Qi I believe - http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phone-accessories/lg-WCP-700
Correct, any standard Qi charger should work. The one I bought is the Nokia DT-900 wireless charging plate, which has worked perfectly for me and is generally less expensive than the LG plate that Verizon officially endorses for the Rezound.
Any one try this with a custom ROM and kernel? I mean it should work, just wondering if it didn't. Thinking of getting one, but don't want to buy if I cannot use AOSP ROMs.

NFC Antenna heads up.

For those who use NFC and didn't know, the antenna is built in to the battery in the Mega as it is in other devices from Samsung. I'd been using an aftermarket battery in mine and couldn't understand why I could not pick up any NFC tags or devices. If for any reason you need to replace your battery make sure it says 'Near Field Communication' on the new one.

Charging dock for $15.50

Is this Legit? Original or rip off?

From the pictures, the dock doesn't have SONY written on the top of it so I'm guessing fake. Seems to be a fair few of them on Amazon but if they do the job for half the price then I don't see a problem.

That one even seems to use one of the same pictures from your link, although the back connections are totally different.

Its not original Sony and it doesnt say the same as well. Secondly in original variant cable is not detachable which is bad and in this its detachable.
Pretty Reasonable.

I wonder if that data port also carries power. I could use that to charge my SW while the phone is on the dock at night without the need of a second/dual charger

they're fake but work, the ones I bought are even spring loaded so it never stresses the magnetic port too much. Also came with 2 size tray adapters, although the larger size is still too slim for any cases.
Definitely does not carry data, only power.
Hasn't harmed my Z2 yet. I used Gravity Box to enable landscape mode on my lock screen, perfect for the bedside.
The second one linked has a short USB data cable(this is what I'm wondering if it also has power since magnetic connector is used to charge phone) & specific states to be used for data connection.
