Hi guys,
1) I bought Nokia USB OTG HOST cable like this, and it works very well
2) I also bought Samsung Galaxy S2 HDMI adapter like this,
to try on Sony Tablet S.
Unfortunatelly (as I thought) - its not working.
So anyone who thinks about buying one - don't buy it(for now).
Maybe someone knows if other adapter would work?
Maybe HDMI support via microUSB port could be added
in software, of course after we will get root?
BR

I too would also like to know if this would be possible. If i root my Sony S tablet would that help,or there is a custom rom i could flash to my Sony Tablet to enable the use of a micro usb-to-HDMI cable for video/audio output to my 42"LCD TV. I only ask bcuz none of my TV's are wifi/DLNA capable & Id like to use the Sony tablet for streaming Netflix to my TV's. I recently upgraded to the Epic 4G Touch/Galaxy S II & i would rather use my tablet for streaming than my Galaxy S II. Thanks for any info
It would be pretty cool to play a nice graphics game on the Tablet S with it displaying on the 42 monitor!

Folks, this tablet does not have HDMI out. Even when it's possible to root it, that won't help.

Galaxy S2 doesnt have HDMI out, and work with adapter. How can you be so sure that its not possible?
Hi Condi,
While the Galaxy S2 doesn't have an HDMI socket like you'd have on your TV, it does have the electonics required to do HDMI over microUSB. Unfortunately the Sony doesn't have this because Sony decided to use DLNA instead, mainly because their TV's have this functionality.
I did quite a bit of research on this subject before buying this tablet and confirmed it with Sony UK.
Sadly it's pretty typical of Sony to build their gadgets to work best with their own devices. Another example of this practice is the proprietory power connector that means you have to use their £30 power adaptor, which is pretty pricey for a mobile power adaptor if you ask me. It also means there is currently no car charger for it, which is extremely annoying too.
Hi all
Running foxhound 1.3, using galaxsih kernel, just popped my MHL cable in my TV.
Anyway needless to say its very cool. However its got a slight delay in input, making gaming a pain in the ass.
I'm using an official MHL cable, powering it with an official power pack and my tv is a beast, all post processing on the TV has been disabled and game mode has been activated, meaning that it should run as good as it can.
I think I've done as much as I can to bring the delay down to a minimum, but its still very noticeable , gaming is not very good because there is a noticeable delay, so anything that requires quick reactions is a no no.
Does anyone have any input about this? It would be superb to get this working well, its cost a few quid to buy all high grade components to set this up, its a shame that its fell at the last hurdle.
Any help would be great
Thanks.

Know that feel, bro.
I also bought the official samsung mhl adapter for s3 (int. edition). And guess what, this adapter gives out a signal of 1080p30Hertz
For real, wtf, is this, only 15 frames per second, videos are not really watchable, games not enjoyable, extreme lag on games, something that shouldnt be, but it is there.
I asked sammy bout that, they said I should send my phone to the service center cause it could be broken (hahaha -.-'') Or my adapter is maybe a faulty unit. I dont know. I have to test it with other s3s. Maybe the adapter doesnt work properly cause my phone is flashed (with system marked as changed and not official state, so I cant update via OTA).
I have to take some time this weekend to check it out, cause it would be really awesome, to play on my FHD tv nfs most wanted.

Dont be sending it back just yet, i've got several s3's in work and i'll be trying them out today, i've attempted it on my two tv's (both Tv's switched to game mode for fastest response time) A Panasonic viera 3DTV, and an LG 3DTV, both top of the line. My HD cables are gold plated high grade 2 metre cables, the MHL is also Official.
I don't believe it's the handset at all.
I think it's just a crap job done at mirroring.
I honestly don't want 1080p, i just wanted 720p, i wanted it to mirror whats on the handset pixel for pixel.
It doesn't need to render it twice, just mirror the one set ffs.
Samsung are terrible for this, there is about half a second lag on my TV, playing tekken was sh** and lagged, on the s3 it was rapid.
Does anyone else have any input on this?
Tried i don't know how many TV's and all have similar results.
Surely it can compete with the like of apple when it comes to getting your device on TV

I've tried it with omega and its the same. I also tested with different TVs, 5 in total and different cables too. 3 in total. And two different HDMI cables.
Maybe its just bad luck. I'll attempt it with another ROM.
Have you used the MHL cable yourself? What results did you have ? I'm aiming at gaming more than anything.
Cheers.

I've just received a MHL adapter, it's not the Samsung official one though.
I don't have any noticeable input lag but I can see it's always running at 30fps.
That's easy to notice while playing emulators (Sonic on megadrive/genesis ).
I tested it on my Samsung 1080p TV, it gives a 1080p output at 30Hz which I think is the maximum possible with this MHL technology atm.
So, I thought "let's try this on the 720p TV I've got downstairs, maybe it will run at 60FPS".
And... no, still 30FPS at 720p.
I was wondering if it was a cheap MHL fault and if the Samsung official one would run faster, what do you guys think? you always have 30fps as well?

Not sure what mine runs at, all I know is that it cost £27 and its nowhere near as good as the iphone one, which pisses me off as I can't stand it when apple has something over android.
That aside, I think the s3 and this mhl technology should work well, but as far as I can see, besides simple browsing and movies, gaming isn't all that good. Infact unless your playing solitaire or pool or something, its not possible. Was playing real racing and although it looks amazing, the delay is just so noticable.
Tekken 3 on epsxe was unplayable and it lagged.
Haven't tried it since the 4.1.2 update but I can't see it moving ahead a lot. Will test it again and see how I go.

I'm stuck at 1080p at 30hz, don't have the option to alter it on my TV, would be nice to be able to have 720 with 60hz.
Thanks for the answer.
Everyone seem to have this problem, 30Hz max while it's technically possible to do [email protected]
I saw someone made a modification at kernel level on the HTC One S to force 60Hz. I asked him how he did but didn't get any answer yet.

Would be good to know how as the delay and lag is a killer.
Great for movies crap for games.
I found his github with the commit but the files are not similar to what we have on I9300.
I've now found that my 0anason8c Vieira runs the mhl cable at 1080i at 60hz. It is smoother. But still not perfect.

Hello
Got a Galaxy note 2, stock ROM JB 4.1.2, with samsung official GS3/GN2 11pin adapter. I have the same problem with the official smartdock and the Juice Defender 5 in 1 MHL Connection Kit.
I have the same problem described by the OP: Output seems to be 1080p.
But about an half second lag that just make games impossible to play on a TV. And that is also easy to see when I open app on the home screen.
Do you really confirm you have no delay ?
If yes I would be really interested in having the ref of your adapter.
30fps or 720p would be just fine for me if I at least I got no delay.
Note: And in addition, I can see with emulators such as N64oid the rendering is much better on my phone screen than on my TV (that's blured and pixelated), what is not the case in other apps (homescreen, video player, ...).
UPDATE 06/05/2017:
The delay was caused by a setting on my TV.
I noticed the same delay when I connected the TV to my PC. After having enabled the PC mode on the TV, the delay disappeared.
I have not rechecked with the phone and the MHL adapter, but I am now pretty sure the delay should be solved now.
Sorry for this false alarm.

Hi, I checked my cable and where I bought it but it's hard to answer.
There is just "HDTV adapter" written on it and no reference at all.
The shop I bought it from has a different adapter on the picture now, so I think they send whatever they have atm.
The price is higher too...
Sorry can't really help here.
I also suspect different TV can have more or less input lag with an MHL connected (and they already have different input lag natively btw).
Bad technology...
Thanks for your answer anyway.
In fact that cannot come from the TV, since my TV (like almost all) is not MHL enabled, meaning there are only regular MHL inputs.
Of course there is a small delay on all TVs, but there is a really big difference between the phone and the PC, if I connect it on the same HDMI input.
So the delay could only come from the MHL to HDMI bridge or to the phone itself.
stock kernel may help fix the mhl delay.i use stock rom with kernel and stock launcher. i do not have mhl issues. also nova launcher may cause mhl to not work
OK, but actually I use a GN2 stock ROM JB 4.1.2. Are you in JB 4.2 ? Or maybe there is difference between S3 and GN2...
I'm on the fence between the HTC One and the Samsung GS4.
One feature I would like is the ability to output HDMI while using a USB port on the phone. The SGS4 has a media dock which charges, outputs HDMI and has 3 usb ports. Is there something similar to his available for the HTC One or a combo of cables/adapters that would effectively do the same thing? It looks like it can do either but I can't find any information confirming that it can do both simultaneously.
I have an Amaze 4G that I really like so I'm leaning towards the One right now and think I'll buy it if it can function like this.
