Hi guys, I'm a newbie and been roaming for a while. Anyway, I have a samsung galaxy s2 (international). Other week I dropped it in a bowl of acetone but surprisingly phone came back to life and works as good as new. However, when I finally tried the camera I noticed it was blurry unless focused, and even then, the focus was very temperamental so couldn't always guarantee a decent pic (and having kids you can't always wait for the Autofocus to work to take the pic as they don't stay In one place, lol). I bought a camera module but because I didn't read it properly I thought it was an official s2 module which I found out wasn't when I fitted it. Picture was a lot worse than the original one I had so put that one back in, at least I could get a decent pic WHEN it was working.
To be fair I could just buy a new phone but I love my s2 and don't want to fork out money for the same phone, I'd want a whole new phone to play with, and nothing takes my fancy.
So, anyway, partner has kept an eye out for spares and repairs s2's as at least when I get one I know it's going to be a proper camera module. Found one that's on Vodafone and won't turn on for £50 and there's a good chance the camera will work (if not will just bung on ebay again).
I know how to physically install it, but need advice on what to do regarding firmware? I know there's different modules (fuji, Sony etc...) so if the one I install is different from the one im currently using will I need to do something regarding software? You can't get the camera firmware updater anymore from the Samsung store so need help, please
Oh and phones Rooted but has stock room, if that makes any difference.

Hi,
I have been planning to move away from my SGS2. And I'm gonna ask if it's a good time now?
Actually, I don't need a new phone. SGS2 handles everything I do, fast enough. Problem is, I hate this phone to it's guts. I mean, it is decent and works mostly fine but I had too many problems to even like it or keep it. It just like a bad luck charm in my pocket. Now, if I get hit by a bus, I'm gonna blame this phone. That's how I hate it.
Guess it's this particular device, with bunch of hardware problems and stuff, not the whole line. However, combined with ****tiest ever customer support, I just want to get rid of it by flushing it into a toilet.
That said, I decided that I would not even pay a cancerous tumor to Samsung for SGS3 or something new. Gotta look somewhere else.
I have been thinking about One X, looks like a decent device. I guess the biggest problem is battery life but I'm not sure how bad is it compared to SGS2 or 3? Anyone had a chance to use one after SGS2, would you suggest it?
BTW I'm neutral about iPhones, used 2 of them before, good devices. I could switch back, but it looks like the new model will take a little more time to get released and I don't want to buy a 4S weeks before the iPhone 5 release.
So, what would you do? Go for HTC or wait and see if the new iPhone turns out to be something I'd like more than others?
Thanks..
ok so i had a galaxy s3 , decided to trade for a evo lte because despite what samsung claims the s3 screen is blurry and washed out compared the evo lte. i traded with someone on craigslist. the phone was brand new in the box and i even did the code to check usage. so 3-4 days after the trade i decided to send a mms and go to take a pic. the camera app opens to a black screen and then closes. i know this was a issue when the evo lte was first released...i didnt know at the time of the trade or i would have checked it.ok i could drone on here but ill switch to bullet points
- i updated to the latest firmware so i could run mean rom, i did so after rooting(latest firmware be the issue, read on google that people had camera issues after updating?)
- i purchased and installed a new rear camera from etrade. still doesnt work. so im starting ti think this could be software or just a bad connector
- i tried wiping data on the app itself...front camera works through the mirror app but cant access it through the camera app
looking for some opinions here...anyone else go through this.. i have TEP , but really don't want to use it if i don't have to.
beuller ? beuller?
no one else had had this issue =(
Take it sprint. Problem solved
Sent from my EVO
unfortunately that looks like the only option i just didnt want the hassle of restoring to stock then going into a sprint store. i work 6 days a week 12 hour shifts. i was hoping someone had a fix. apparently not
It sucks but sometimes gotta bite the bullet. I haven't read any camera issues like yours so I assume there is no fix for it.

Hey, I've read about 25 threads, none of which have helped solve my problem.
I wrecked a motorcycle with the phone in my back pocket. The crash killed the lens and the camera. Everything else works. I replaced the camera and lens with one from SW-BOX.com. The camera works now but wont focus. I assumed it was a firmware issue since everything else works. Due to a 'modified' status I wasn't able to upgrade my phone for about the last year. I finally got fed up with it and figured out how to side stepped that last night('official' status now). The phone is up-to-date now. However, the camera still wont focus.
The camera isn't in macro mode and all other camera features work fine. It simply wont focus. Even if I tap & hold the screen. Also the lens is oriented properly.
I've done a hard reset and a cache wipe. Most recently I was trying to figure out what my camera's firmware was, in hopes that (maybe) it could be updated to fix the issue. But every thread I've Googled has turned up this key code, *#34 blah blah blah that doesn't work on my phone. I assume that code only works on Verizon versions of the S3. I also tried searching the system/etc/firmware/ for rm***.bin files. I can't find any relevant *.bin files or file names starting with 'rm'.
Additionally I used an anti static bracelet to do the install. I didn't alter or damage anything in the phone during the installation. No cracked ribbon cables, scratched PCB's, short circuited terminals, altered soldier joints, loose wires, mal-fitting boards, everything is seated properly - - It was a clean install. I don't know WTH else it could be. It has to be software related.
So I'm lost here.
Questions:
1. How do I figure out my current camera firmware version?
2. Anyone have an suggestions on how to fix this?
Camera is faulty, return it to the seller.

Damn it, I was really hoping that wasn't the case... I've had it for to long to return it. I'll have to buy a new one if thats whats wrong.

I'm on metropcs, the 'model number' for the phone is labeled as "SCH-R530M" This information wasn't available when I bought mine previously. And I have no idea weather it is fully releveant or not in this case. Which is also why I was attempting to see what the firmware version for the camera was.
Anyone know how to do that on my phone? Or can give me a clue as to HOW I can figure it out on my own haha? Thanks for the help!
So for about 6 months my phone worked fine in all ways. Then I broke the screen and had it replaced (for more than I could have sold the phone for...). Then a few months ago (about 9 months after buying) my regular call microphone stopped working. Oh well. I could still call on speakerphone because I guess it used a different microphone. Except now that microphone is dead too. My phone is now a small tablet incapable of calling.
Different roms, clean flashes, stock, aosp, etc. Nothing changed it. I think it's a hardware issue.
Now that I got my screen replaced is there any chance that LG will fix it for me if I can make it appear stock, or will they know and demand I pay some ridiculous price to get it back? At this point I guess I might as well send it in and try because my only other option is to use an old phone or maybe waste half of my net worth on an unlocked M8. Still, I'd like to have some input on what you all would do.

Or you could have a go at replacing both microphones its not to tricky there are many tutorials on you tube.
I'm being forced to use a moto x until I get another upgrade. This phone has slowly degraded into barely being useful as every phone I've ever had has. HTC is the only android brand left for me to try. I hope the m9 is amazing.

The phone itself is fine. Willing to bet something went wrong during the time either:
When the screen was damaged or
During the repair process.
That's probably what LG is going to say if you try to ask them to repair damage they're not responsible for.
I would replace the Mic and speaker as Melt1down suggested and go from there.
The phone is not fine. Every phone I've ever had has had this problem. It slowly gets worse and worse and nothing changes it. And I didn't drop my phone, so don't assume things you don't know.
I bought this phone based on my Father in Law's
P5000 and thought after much research that they would only have improved the series... Specwise the P9000 should be great... The Sony 13 Megapixel camera should be awesome.. It gsm surprised me a few times in perfect conditions but anything indoors where you want to capture the moment my advice would be to use anther camera, another phone or do a quick sketch with your eyes closed....
The fact that the phone can't keep a SIM card or Sdcard in place is a major problem and means that you cannot rely I the phone if you want it as a means of communication. I have tried the tape solution, taking the SIM to the tray and the tray to the phone, without much success. BTW I have found a permanent workaround to the annoying "do you want to change the default write disk" error message that came up everyone I turned the phone on (you take the Sdcard out of the phone and put it in a drawer, then use the phone without the Sdcard - no more error message).
And now my home button is not working so I am forced to use the nav bar
Currently asking for an RMA for about the 4th time.
I cannot advise people more to avoid this phone and this company
You just broke your phone lol. Mine works fine.

Since a week and it dropped sometimes but left no scrapes or damage.

ok, also what rom are you using? im thinking about at least staying with stock rom for a week to see how it goes, ill change to RR or CM12.1 if i feel necessary, im also problably going to port a few stock roms from certain devices with same chipset just to see if its easy to port like on my other phone that had the MT6753 CPU..
im using CM13 its pretty sick
I have had the phone over 6 months - was getting the sdcard issue frequently in beginning but since updated to CM13 its very rare. Fantastic cheapo phone.
A great phone IMO. The ONLY time I got the sim card message was before I moved it to the second (dedicated) sim card slot and not the dual slot (dual for either sdcard or sim). No problems at all, all on original as it came to me with OTA updates only.
From your current signature, you have messed with your ZTE Kis also.......................
