[Q] updated to wrong omega version... - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there. I wanted to update omega mb5 version to new mc3 version. Unfortunately i downloaded the mb3 (4.2.1)version and was dumb enough not to notice it until it was flashed -.-
So the problem now is, i dont want to factory wipe the phone, but flashing the correct mc3 version resulted in an infinite loop (the omega android just walks forever)
How can i flash a new rom without losing my data now?
Thanks guys!

YOu could try just flashing it by coping the rom to an sd card but to be honest your gonna end up full wiping for it to boot properly.

So nothing i can do really.....damn

try wiping /system before flashing

try to wipe cache and dalvic cache.
and always do titanium back ups before flashing.

also, you can make a backup and then wipe, reflash, and restore just the data

Thanks for the help so far

tried that right now, unfortunately doesn't help either.
Since i want to downgrade form a 4.2.1 to 4.1 version, is it neccessary do to something about the "0" folder?
And if i should just move that content to the root: how can i do that, since all file managers(with root privileges) tell me it is not possible.
It cant be that hard to downgrade from 4.2 without losing data
EDIT: I'll try if reflashing 4.2 will at least boot so i can use my phone....if it works i'll just do a titanium backup. Hopes-up-mode activated!

Why can you not make a Nandroid backup ???
Downgrade preference is for a full wipe .

Of course i could make a nandroid backup; but backup->wipe->flash->restore only data though advanced restore -> boot loop again

Then its your Data has the problem .

Reflashing 4.2 worked with all my data back. So now i can just titanium backup and downgrade

[Q] (Help needed)

Hi Gurus,
As I am not allowed to post in the original thread, thus I am asking my question here.
this is the actual thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742493&page=8
I am using stock Samsung ICS firmware (DXLP9) beforehand, rooted using CF root. Yesterday I tried this rom and encountered some issues.
1) After flashing this ROM, i didn't do a wipe (i guess there is no need to as per the title)
2) I notice only applications installed on phone memory will appears on the desktop, I mean on the "Downloaded App" tab itself. Apps installed on SD card will not be shown. Why is this so? Did I miss out something?
3) the Music app will FC when selecting the "End" options to close this program
I have reverted back to my original settings.
Could someone help me? thanks
Even a noob who flashed multiple times would know, it is crying for a wipe.
Haha yes do a factory reset and try again.

i am really a noob cos I flashed only once. you know, it can be very confusing and 'life threatening' for noob like me as some ROM requires flashing of kernel while some don't need, I have been reading till i give up. then there is this bootloader thing. Frankly speaking i also don't know what's the version of bootloader my set is using.
So for all ROMs I installed, I will do a wipe (factory reset, wipe davik cache etc). Is that correct?
thanks
YES

How to restore system folder ?

I wiped data in stock recovery thinking that it would restore system folder to factory default but it didn't work.Any idea how to do it ? Please reply if you got anything to help.I didn't get any responses on my last 2 questions for some reason but it's serious this time. Thanks in forward:angel:

And what exactly You did ?
Did You wiped data/cache/dalvik/batt stat ?
Wiped cache after flashing ?
Have You tried re-flashing ? Flashing different ROM or kernel ?
Rooted > flashed cwm 5.5 via odin > flash cm 9.1 > bootlooped
Thus i went to wipe cache/dalvik already. Must i wipe all user data? Will i lose everything in my phone? If yes i already backed up on my titanium backup before. Also did a nandroid backup before too. No i didn't try reflashing. I came from stock rom was running on android 4.0.3

You need to do a wipe data/factory reset in cwm. Its advised over and over and over and over and over again in just about every single rom topic. I honestly do not understand why so many n00bs fail to understand.

They are noobs ? Mayby that's why...
They are like children, you just have to be patient and keep telling them over and over again do a full wipe
Or just ignore them, and let them stick the hand into the flame. They will learn this way or the other

Well because wiping every user data scares me? I'm afraid it actually removes my backup too.
Anyway, i followed what you guys suggested and yes i'm done. Yup i do admit my noobiness.

Cant flash ROM; phone stuck

Hi,
I am trying to install a rom on my n7100 for a second time. Trying to move from DN3 to SOKP (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700230).
I'm making a clean install. However, while installing from zip I'm getting a status 7 error. I researched all around and found that it is mostly because of the assert section. So i removed it and tried; same error.
I had philz recovery installed, moved to cwm, still same error.
Then I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2605730 , where someone flashed original firmware and then flashed new rom; did that, same error.
Tried toggling signature verification; same error.
Now my installation screen looked like this. Can anyone help me with it? I really dont know whats happening.

Delete some apps or unwanted ringtones from the rom zip then flash the rom..
try to use newest Milestone from SOKP, where is the file saved, on sd-card or internal memory ?
Make sure the ROM zip is completely downloaded/ copies to ur SD card .. An incomplete zip is a common cause of this error, also make sure u're on the latest version of whatever recovery u're using
Sent from my GT-I9300
Thank you guys for your help. yes jinayhvora I used the newer recovery and it worked like a charm.
However latest is not always better as last time while installing DN3 I couldnt get past the terms and condition. Then I downgraded to a previous version of philz recovery and it worked.
There is another problem though, when I restore the nandroid of DN3, it works fine, but when I restore backup of stock, I cant get past the samsung logo.
I thought the backup might be corrupt, but I re-flashed the stock firmware and took its backup; same problem.
Any ideas?
It DOES say in the Installation Instructions that they recommend using TWRP. There's usually a reason why when they say that.

what do you mean by this?
You flashed the stock then restored its backup? and still got stuck? well then maybe, it really is corrupted
Are you using TWRP or CWM now? Try wiping caches after restore. But I dunno DN3 refers to either. Is that stock based or other?

Well, what I mean by this is: I flashed the stock firmware, rooted it, and then took a nandroid backup. I wanted to see if the problem was with restoring the previous copy I have, or with restoring the stock firmware in general.
And when I restored it after a wipe, it still got stuck at the samsung logo. So the problem is with restoring the stock firmware, which is weird. I was using the latest philz recovery, and the stock firmware was 4.3

because the backup was made in philz. From what I know, CWM and TWRP have different kind of backup files which cant be restored by the other.. let me know if I'm wrong..
Should I use TWRP to backup now.. You think it'll work better than philz?

sorry didnt see this post earlier.. I'm on philz, DN3 is ditto note 3 rom that I was using; it is stock based.
The backups are not compatible between the 2, but obviously this version of Philz isn't cooperating like it should and since the developer's for DU suggested TWRP, seems like that's next logical step in troubleshooting issues with backing up and restoring in general.

Agreed.. Just to put it out there.. the first backup I made was through Online nandroid manager app, and the second one through philz..
I'll install and use twrp the next time I'm on stock... which I dont think i will be for a long time btw.. enjoying the irresistible ROMs out there

Ah. Never used the Online Nandroid one. Never saw the point and trust the actual recovery to be able to backup better. Less chance of issues.

First of all turn it off, hold volume up + power untill you feel (1+) 3 vibrations, and charge.
What firmware version you had before?

I charged. I was previously using Honami MW HD™ V8 .. with nemesis 6.3.. I don't know why this happened. I have flashed several different ROMs earlier but no problem like this whatsoever occurred.
Oh and also, when i first flashed the ROM last night, I was using an older version of Flashtool. But then later i downloaded the latest version and flashed with it too but the result was still the same.

I would think it's the fact you did not clear data so you can try just that (exclude everything and just leave all clear options checked) or do full flash.

There 2 choices:
Have the data and not be able to use the phone.
Or, lose the data and be able to use your phone.
Up to you which you choose.
It's not like you didn't know it is advised to back up your data before flashing ROM

Try to flash the kernel you had, and perhaps the ROM too without wiping data, it's a long shot but nothing to lpse other than your time.
BTW what data are you worried about, some may be backed up on your google account.

And it would be a good idea to backup your phon regularly
