How to Increase Ram - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone got an idea how to increase my phone ram.

Replace the built in ram is about your only option. Not really an option though

So how will I do that?

you can't just physically increase the ram
whatever you got is the maximum.
only thing you can change is ram management I.e how much ram usage is occurring

You can increase the virtual size of the memory, though. Search the forum for "virtual memory" or "swap". This will make more memory available for the applications, at the cost of some speed and a little SDcard space. Exactly how you implement this, depends on what ROM you are using.

This is a great program for ram. I use the pro version...but this should help with virtual memory. Also has the ability to create a memory swap file.

Ok thank you.. How do I know if it will work on my ROM

It works on all roms, its like the "pagefile.sys" on windows OS, the swap or virtual memory will be slower than actual ram, but its worth a try.

I didn't think that System Tuner can change voltages? I have the newest version of setcpu and didn't see that option in there yet like it was in the Galaxy S2

well i guess computer tech geeks would know this,i just use the phone,i dont know the components to build it.... all i know is setCPU and tegrak are used to undervolt, where tegrak was used on stock
i used it on my SGs2,didnt know it was dependant on computer architecture, because seems setCPU is used on a multitude of different phones
with that said, was system tuner able to do that??

System tuner worked for me on DaG custom gingerbread kernel. was able to oc to 1.83 stable and did do some undervoltage playing, but went to ics. Was not able to get it working on any ics roms. From what i have seen/read until devs get source they are very limited on modifying kernels to allow this.

Memory card

Does Samsung s3 in box provide any memory card?
No, it comes with internal memory only. Any external SD has to be bought aftermarket.
To be fair you would want a bigger and better card then they would throw in anyway. Until then 16 gb or 32 gb internal is plenty enough to get the device up and working and still have room over for a decent amount of media.

Thank you for your reply, yes it would be great if we can insert memory compare to those built in ones.
Would like to ask bout some opinion in customs roms, any roms which is already stable for daily use. Gps, notes, messaging and email usage only.

it is noted that some market are provided with 32GB SD cards in which Samsung does mark 48GB on the box...this was due to the shortage of 32GB edition of the S3...

CheckROM is in my opinion one of the most polished ROMs out there...not many visual tweaks and very similar to standard but typically fast and very lean...good on battery too...

when we have the 2gb of ram?

we have to wait for new kernel? still have 1.5 gb of ram
point out that the radio of the new firmware is below the butterfly verizon
(in Europe)
We have 2GB of ram available, no need for a different kernel. Perhaps you have 1.5GB not being used? Where is your phone telling you that you only have 1.5?

Huh never noticed that. I'm sure the other 512MB is allocated for something related to the OS. Can't find any info on the subject.

As far as I know, 512mb is reserved for Andreno video card. This is usual for latest Qualcomm chipsets. So it is reserved for video card memory, we would never use it for OS RAM.

[Q] HTC One X+ User Available Ram?

Can anybody please tell me what is the user avail ram on hox+ , As i am planning to buy one and is pretty much concerned about user RAM availablity.
Out of 1 GB, how much is user available and how much is free ?
Can we free more ram from reserved ? (ex: 1gb ram out of which 800mb user available, that means 200 is reserved by the phone , so can we add 50 mb from 200 to 800? which will make it 850 user and 150 reserved ?
PLEASE HELP

Put your phone in the cave for 1 day...tomorrow when u take ur phone back u will get 2gb ram and extra 128gb memory card ..awesome!!!
The only way to have 2 GBs of RAM is to have an International LTE version of Galaxy S3 - Model GT-i9305, or one of the carrier exclusive models.
