Dear Developers and friends,
I am using SGSII I9100 international version. I recently flashed it with official 4.1.2 Australian version using ODIN.

All I want to do is to root it and use some custom rom. Can someone please give me step by step guideline to safe rooting so that I can install custom rom as I have never rooted before?

Frankly, no, it's not all necessary, but if you follow that guide you should be ok.
The important thing to understand is that these days, the recovery on the i9100 is using the recovery partition; whereas before the recovery was bundled with the kernel. So if you are attempting to install and use TWRP 3.x(recommended), you need a kernel installed that has "isorec" support. Please take your time to read up and understand before you go flashing stuff You will also need to repartition, as is mentioned in the updating thread I linked earlier.
- Isorec thread(read also the github link in the thread)
- TWRP thread

I want to root my s2 its on Kernel version BVKJ4 & Android Version 2.3.5. I dont no which one support this kernel
and i want to know if this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274 will support
I am new to rooting did read most info but scared abit
Thanks
You can root without the need to insecure kernel. The method is available in the root guide in the official firmware thread in the dev forum.
If you want to use an insecure kernel then you can use anyone of them, doesn't need to match your current firmware... just chose the latest one.
Thanks for the fast reply this mean i can use Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3 = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274

I have no idea how you got to that from the above, but yes, I guess you could use Lite'ning ROM, but that's nothing to do with what you asked for. Do you understand the difference between kernel, ROM and root?
what version do i need to root my phone? Give me example this will help alot. Asking because i dont want to mess up the phone.

Use the Kj3 CF-root Kernel, then you can change to which Rom you like. This is what i used and I've tried several Roms but found stock rooted does me fine

Before I start, I just want to say I am completely new to the forums and this site in general, but look forward to being a part of the community. Cheers. :good:
Being a complete idiot at technology, I cannot seem to figure out how to root my Samsung Galaxy SII. The details of it are:
- Model Number: GT - I9100
- Android Version: 4.0.3 (ICS)
- Baseband Version: I9100DXLPA
- Kernel Version: [email protected] #3
- Build Number: IML74K.DXLPB
Can any kind soul provide this lonely fool on how to root his SGSII or a forum thread to how to? It seems that my baseband version is different and I cannot seem to find a root that works for it
Anyway, thanks in advance!
Hi,
Welcome to XDA.
You can learn how to root your SII running on ICS here.
Check this out.
One simple advice, read (or repeatedly reading) before asking any question. In xda, there are more than enough guides for rooting, probably more than my underwears.

Does both of this links work for my baseband version and kernel version? Is it universal?
FYI, the baseband have nothing to do with rooting, it is commonly known as the "Modem". You only need to pay attention to the firmware (aka ROM) and the kernel. Read the whole guide, understand the risk of not following instruction before you attempt to start anything.
Edit: Using CWM to root will not give you Yellow Triangle nor increase in binary counter, because it doesn't need you to flash an insecure kernel. (which is the method 1)
Use method 1 from 1st guide in my signature. You don't need CWM and it works for all ICS ROMs.

Technically, you still need CWM, albeit for temporary usage.

Yes it does. As stated by Zedomax in the site - roots Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 on ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0+)
If you want more credibility, I rooted my phone successfully with similar specs as yours using that guide.

Yes, the process is same as for the I9100 version. There are a few threads explaining how to root and flash custom ROMs here. Search and you'll find plenty. If you get stuck somewhere or don't understand, ask here. Good luck

Thank you,I tried that method but when I started cw in recovery mode, it didn't let me choose any option because the screen was blinking... Very strange I know... I'm going to the method in your signature and I'll tell you...thank you!
I rooted using rachmat3 way very easy guide
Perhaps I didnt download the suitable version of Clockwork, in their web I can see "download recovery" and "download touch recovery" (I took this one), but what is the difference between both? With the "touch" type (5.8.1.5) is with the one i got that screen-blinking problem...
Thank you
Download the 1st and 3rd links and use them.
The 1st link is temp cwm which lets you flash the file in the 3rd link.
Once i had reached this, could I install any custom ROM?

What I dont understand is why I need files in sammobile when first method doesnt ask for these files anytime... you mean this? (please see attached pic)
Its the 1st and 3rd links in the ics rooting guide by Rachmat....not the 1st and 3rd links in my sig.
Ive had problems in the past using touch recovery, but it should still work.
There are other methods to root if you prefer them, one being flashing a rooted kernel via Odin.
Ok, Im gonna try!
YEAHHHHHHHH! Once it's done, I consider myself an idiot...! Thank you everybody!!! hehehehehe... and now... and almost ending my asks, where can I find info for flashing a ROM?
Thank you so much...
Hey,first use hktool to backup your efs then make a nand backup in cwm.
Then look into custom roms. Also make sure you install Odin in case you need to get out of trouble.

You can do that from CWM Recovery. You don't need to format Internal Storage before flashing a custom ROM though...

So you do know the rules. Search and read and read some more. There are so many posts on this topic it shouldn't be too hard to figure it out.
The first 2 options are not working. That leaves 2 options available from that thread. The third option would be the exynos abuse apk.
