[Q] Rear Camera Replacement - HTC EVO 3D

Hi everyone,
I've got an older Evo 3D that's seen better days. I've replaced the LCD and the Digitizer, along with the whole front frame of the phone, and recently the digitizer started acting up again, so I'm going to have to replace it a second time. But I also noticed that my camera was acting funny.
I've tried several different roms, both Sense and Non-sense, CM, and completely returned to stock relocked and s-on, and RUU recovery, and this happens exactly the same for all of them. Basically, when you load any camera app, the camera is stuck focused at almost infinity. Not quite infinity, but like maybe a 15 foot distance away or so. If you hold down the focus button, it doesn't change the focus at all, but shows the icon on screen as if it was, and then comes up green, saying it's focused. This happens in both 2D and 3D mode.
It keeps this up for about 3-5 minutes, when, as long as you haven't closed the camera app, it suddenly starts focusing. However, it doesn't focus to infinity properly. If you're looking at anything closer than say 20-30 feet or so, it focuses beautifully. Anything further than that, and it adjusts the focus, dials in perfectly for a fraction of a second, then immediately backs out of focus slightly, and then shows you the green bars saying it's focused. This can be repeated over and over again, and does the same thing every time.
Now, at this point, if you close and re-open the camera app, you're starting back with no focus adjustment at all for 3-5 minutes. Unable to explain any of this, I went on eBay to buy a new camera so I could replace it and sell the phone (I haven't been using it as my main phone for a long time now). So I got the new camera today, but it looks different. The mount isn't as solid as the one I removed, and the chips on the circuit board are very different. Hoping for the best, I replaced it, and everything still fit fine, the ribbon cable included. Now, when I launch any camera app on CM10.1, I get Camera Error: Can't connect to the camera. I thought maybe It needed to be tried on a fresh install, so I relocked, S-On, and RUU'd back to full stock, and the camera simply closes itself as soon as you open it. You can see the camera icon for about 1 second, then it's back to the home screen. The same thing happens regardless of the switch being in 2D or 3D.
I have a feeling that I've got a different version of the camera than what I had before, but I'm not sure. I'm guessing I'm probably out of luck at this point, but if anyone can suggest something to try, I'm up for nearly anything. If it would help to have pictures of the cameras, or a video of what's happening, let me know and I'll get them. Thanks everyone!

Most likely, you got a wrong cam model :/

I talked to the guy (from China) where I bought it from, and he'll gladly accept the return. Sadly, it costs more to ship the camera to China than it did to buy it in the first place. Seems like there's no other model available to buy that I can find anyway. Oh well, he did offer me a 30% refund for my trouble, without returning the camera, so I guess that's better than nothing. Looks like I'll have to use this as a permanent XBMC Remote. There are worse things that could happen.

Problem with screen (8Bit color/bleeding)

Hi
I am having problems with my screen. Looks like the LCD is faulty. Trying to resolve with Samsung Support, but thought I would ask here if this is a known problem or if there is a simple fix.
It looks like the grayscale colors are not right, I installed a screen tester and the grayscale bars have a red tint. all other tests in the appl look ok. however pictures/video's all look like they are 16bit color and icons look like they are bleeding
Here is a picture of the problem
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/836/atab1large.jpg
Any thoughts?
Eric...
Looks like a faulty panel !
Take it back to where you bought it and have them exchange it.
Sent from my Galaxy10.1 TouchWiz/ADWex equipped Starship.
I have exactly the same problem Tablet has been bought in the United States and now I am in Europe. Samsung won't repair/replace it anywhere in Europe. Only US Samsung offered to help me but the tablet needs to be at a United States address. Now I have to send it back to someone I know.. will take months
Well my problem disappeared.... not really sure why/how, but I have been playing with different ROM's etc. and I THINK it might of been when I did a permissions repair, but...
Plus i'm 99.3% sure I had the problem before I rooted/ROM'd
Another reason to stop loading these 3rd party ROMs. I dont understand why people are installing these 3rd party ROMs to begin with. The stock ROM is by FAR the most stable and error free ROM you can use. Most of the issues people are starting threads about would have NEVER occurred if they just stuck with the stock ROM.
I get this too now. I've been pootin' around with different roms for a while, no problems. Then a few days ago while I was running GalaxyTask 8.0 the "bleeding" started slowly. First around the edges of things, but then the entire screen. The colors seem to color-cycle into the end result. I figured it might be the rom so I tried a stock one. And then I tried a complete stock reset with stock recovery and factory reset - the works. No change. It's still like this. And in the bootloader and the recovery too. Sometimes it gets moments of clarity, everything is fine, but only for a few seconds.
Busted tablet? I bought it while in the US this summer, so taking it back will be an issue. Getting a Transformer Prime late next week *fingers crossed* but still. I was hoping to sell this fully functioning :|

I had the same issue. Also bought in US while I live in Hungary. I had to send it back to my relatives who took it back to Samsung and they replaced it in warranty. Fortunately, I was travelling there by the time we got the new one and I could take it back home with me. This seems to be a weakness of the tablet. My replacement unit has been working nicely ever since.
I had the same issue with an August build stock tablet from the US.
Thankfully Samsung UK took it in for repair and ended up replacing it as it was apparently unrepairable.
My issue used to show up with 60+ minutes of continued use. I think it was thermal related as the warmer it was the quicker it seemed to develop the fault. putting it on standby for a few minutes used to clear it, but the problem would come back quickly as it was warm.
Anyone know how Samsung handles this issue if the device it out of warranty? Mine is acting up pretty bad and I haven't been able to find anything on here about repairing the issue on your own. It will be clean view for a few minutes and then the color bleeding some background effects kick in making the tablet a large paperweight. I've been looking for and excuse to get the 10.1 Note, but it sure would be nice to get a few bucks for this since it's in perfect condition... besides the screen.
My 10.1 is starting to develop the same issue. Never been rooted, always on a stock rom. I've never dropped it or banged it around. It also seems to start happening afternlonge usage. First imsee a few purple lines across the screen and then the entire scren turns to 8bit colors, etc. Once I turn it off and back on it goes back to normal. Annoying, especially simce I bought it 13 months ago so I'm guessing it's past the warranty period.

I'm with you - mine has never been rooted or tampered with. Other than getting heavy usage, I've taken perfect care of it. I've been unable to find a fix.

If you're out of warranty you're on your own. Samsung won't repair or replace it for free.
At this point I'd just like to know how to fix it and what it would cost, ballpark. I haven't been able to find anyone who's delt with it, bar throwing their tablet.

My 10.1v just went.
Guys, I'm having the same issue today. And here is the fix:
1. Take out the back cover.
2. Look for the black cable that have SET printed on the end.
3. Removes both ends and then reconnect.
4. Push/rub at both ends while the screen is on. You'll notice the tint-colour of the LCD will change. Stop when it looks normal again then put a tape on top to hold the cable in that position
4. Put the cover back and enjoy your Note 10.1 again
Good luck!

touch screen "kinda" failure?

well i have an odd problem, one one section of my screen doesn't pick up touches, only the area where the "C" is on the keyboard...its annoying due to thats where the OK buttons are...
i can still navigate sense i can use the track ball..
anyone else have this issue, or something similar?
Try wiping back to factory if stock or reflash the rom if rooted?
I had a weird issue with the touch screen on condemned 18.3 where on the lockscreen trying to drawdown the slider and then draw the pattern, it would freak out and glitch and not follow my finger at all and take several tries to get the pattern correct.
I then wiped and flashed the latest 4.0 GSB and haven't had any issues since.
That's not quite a touch screen failure as yours is, but I thought it would help as an example as something gone wrong and how I was able to remedy it.
i've tried flashing a few different roms, went from cs18.3 to a 2.1 sense rom, back to the latest gsb. it appears its must be a problem with the digitizer...
really sucks, i have to wait to april to upgrade this phone...
might be on craigslist looking for a cheap droid 1...
Ah man, that's unfortunate. Probably wouldn't be worth it to try to replace the screen/digitizer either. Yeah, that's probably your best bet, looking to get another phone. That's how I got my Eris, from craigslist. Great way to go about doing so.
Good luck to ya.
I actually have the same problem and something leads me to believe that an update is causing this. I had it bad a few weeks ago (can't press C, V or X - though I can swipe to the keys sometimes) and then I got a few market updates for Handcent, SuperUser, and something else which then cleared it up for a few days. Then I got more updates and it's back to the failing keyboard!
I really don't know how to pin point it and I haven't done any resetting or testing yet, but I have like gut feeling something is wrong with the software, not the touchscreen since someone else is having this problem.
Mine has been failing little by little. Im now down to the top right corner, bottom left, and bottom middle not responding. It hard to even get the apps drawer to open. It all started with the letter C with me too. Just gets worse.
****, my whole qwerty row doesn't work, neither does the trackball. Upgraded to a SGS2, but I still tinker with the ol' eris.
mine moved, it started working fine for a few days, then just a smaller section to the left of C doesn't work, only really effects when i have an "OK" to press...but track ball still works and typing is so much easier now.
my wife thinks its because i dropped my phone that it started working again
I know this thread is a couple of months old, but...
There's an area on mine at the top right below the notification pull-down that appears to be dead. I'm thinking it's because I've dropped it about 10 times, but nothing looks wrong with the screen otherwise. I've thought about buying a replacement screen for about 15 bucks, but I'll be able to upgrade at the end of March, so I'm really just thinking about holding off (though if the new screen/digitizer worked, it'd make for a good mp3 player with the wifi script).
Digitizer is going bad. Same exact problem happened to mine. I replaced it myself and it works perfect. I found how to videos on youtube and bought a digitizer for about $37 online. Only took a half hour to tear apart and replace. On the difficulty level, I'd give it a 6 or 7.

YMMV.
Someone gave me an Eris that had digitizer problems along the lower left side of the screen (in portrait orientation). I bought a replacement digitizer ($22 iirc), installed it, and it worked perfectly - for about the first 30 minutes. Then, the problem re-appeared in exactly the same location with the new digitizer.
Same behavior for a variety of stock or developer ROMs, so highly doubtful that it was a "software problem". Very very odd - the chip that does the capacitive sensing is on the flex circuit attached to the digitizer, so it gets replaced when you replace the digitizer; I suppose that the signals that come off the mini-connector between the digitizer assembly and the phone's mobo are only power, ground, and I2C signals.
But there you go; taken all those observations together, I'd suspect that I had a problem on the phone's motherboard which was thermally dependent.
Despite my (negative) experience, the odds are still in favor that a digitizer replacement will fix the problem; but there is an outside chance that it won't.
just sayin',

Completely sudden, unexplained, and unreasonable death of Evo LTE.

If my HTC EVO LTE was a human being and it had died the way it did, you bet your techie bottom that CSI and possibly Mulder and Scully from X Files would have been involved.
So with that being said:
It was a regular day. Woke up in the morning. Kissed my wife good morning, and grabbed my EVO to play around a bit. Then we headed to my in-laws business, of which we are in charge in the weekend. I usually take my laptop, so as I always do, I got easy tether going and proceeded to plug in my phone into my laptop. I have an application called droid wallet, which allows me to keep track of my finances. I intended to log something onto droid wallet, but I did not want to undo my tethering connection, so I simply reached behind the laptop without unplugging the phone and turned on the screen. I did so clumsily, and I accidentally turned the phone screen back off. When I attempted to turn it back on, it simply did not. I suddenly went, wtf? I kept on clicking the power button repeatedly, to no avail. I proceeded to unplug my phone from the computer. At this point, I realized the phone was not responding. I did long power button press, many short presses, everything I could think of. When I plugged it back into the charger, the charging light no longer triggered on. I hurried it to my local best buy (I got black tie protection) and they told me the phone was done for, and proceeded to give me a new one.
It was too late when i realized....at some point during the beginning of my vacation, my phone automatically switched to storing everything onto phone memory , and a whole trip's worth of pics and videos of a very meaningful vacation with my wife was completely gone.
Things like this are common with crappy build phones like samsung, as it has happened to most people. But HTC? They have never failed me like this. Do you guys have any idea wtf happened??
no comment on what might have happenned, but you should look into the picture auto-upload capabilities. I use the one from dropbox, but I think you can do it with google+ also.
this is the SAME issue that happened to my EVO YESTERDAY!!! the screen would jsut go off when i made a call, i couldnt power it back on and now i get NO charger light!!! ahh!
im going to the sprint store today to get a new one hopefully.
I think you screwed up and did it wrong. Maybe if you kissed your phone good morning and played around with your wife you wouldn't be having problems.

Did you try the power button plus the vol + and - buttons at the same time trick? The charger light wouldn't come on if it froze.

i didnt try that, but i think its a bit too late now. i have my new Evo and best buy kept the old one. I never tried that trick, but it was my understanding that that combination of buttons was to take a snapshot of the screen? or am i wrong?
And about the whole samsung vs HTC thing, let's just agree to disagree. No amount of arguing is going to convince me that Samsung is a better product, nor is it going to convince you that HTC is a better product. What I said I said based on personal experiences, and very extensive research. Im sure you have your reasons too. Im not a Samsung hater, either. I love their TVs and I have owned 2 of them. I just dont trust their phones. BUt I digress. Lets stay on topic, please, everyone.

And everyone please, as the OP, I think I have the right to say please STFU already. No more Samsung vs HTC debates, I thought I was clear in my previous posts. I intended this thread as a troubleshooting thread, not a debate one about manufacturer reliability. I do apologize, because I did bring it up in the first place, but I also quickly shot it down. What I said in my OP post about was not meant to troll. It was just meant to express my disbelief in HTC failing me, as personally, it has never done so before.
with the above being said, I do have an important development:
One of the things i disliked about this phone in the two first weeks I had it is that it became really hot on my ear when I used it for more than five miutes. To the point that I had to pull it away and set it to speaker mode for a little while for it to cool off. I thought it was a common EVO LTE thing, but surpirse surprise, my brand new EVO does not have this heating issue at all. It called directv today to haggle down prices (successfully, if i might add) and I was on the phone with them for at least one hour +. No heating at all. THere was another poster on here (first page I think) who said they had the exact same thing happened to them. I would love to confirm if the "burning your ear in less than 10 min" issue is directly related to sudden deaths of this device??

FWIW, I work at a repair store and I had one of these returned EVO LTE's to work one. Phone was completely DOA, could not power on, no indication of charging when plugged in, triage laptop didn't react when it was plugged in, pressing and holding power button for 60 seconds didn't work, lights on four capacitive buttons didn't flash, etc etc.
I had another known good EVO LTE that was returned because of buyer's remorse so I popped it open, disconnected the battery (which I knew for sure had at least 50% charge), and swapped it into the dead LTE and same deal-- phone still refused to power on.

Looked at a dead one "personal experience", under a lighted magnifier.
What I saw was a pin tip sized drop of solder, near the sdsocket. Seemed like an overheating issue, with what I assumed was a fuse. Though it could just have been a bad assembly which tested marginally with reduced burn in time. Just saying.

As mentionr earlier, Dropbox is the way to go. It's free or 2GB and easy to increase your free space. Enable auto upload and pictures and videos automatically upload to a "camera upload" folder. You specify if upload only on wi-fi or either wi-fi or 3G. It s SO convenient and definitely worth a look.
Go to dropbox.com or use http://db.tt/WYZmyfxT and I'll get free referral space.
Had this just happen to me... Was on the phone and it completely died on me. No charging light, power button hit long and short. Nothing worked.
But... The holding the volume and the power buttons at the same time trick worked. I am now back on and ready to go. Thank god, I just got this damn thing set up the way I like.

LG G5 Reboots Randomly, Not Bootloop.

I have tried factory reset, master reset/hard reset, my phone still reboots randomly. Do you guys think its software problem or hardware problem?
What can cause G5 to reboot randomly. Its not a boot loop, while using it, it hangs in for a second or two and than restarts. Can it be a battery problem? battery some times gets very hot, should i replace my battery or is it some other hardware related problem, power IC related? If someone can explain which component can cause such problem i will go to a repair shop and get it fixed. Its a used phone that i bought, so no warranty.
Thanks guys.

recently, i'm experiencing random reboot too.
but my phone doesn't get hot at all.
Been having reboot issue after 1yr from purchase and can't solve it. My wife's phone does not have this issue so I tried using her battery but does the same. The phone gets extremely hot and goes into bootloop unless you pull the battery and let it cool down. So it's not the battery, though your case may be different. The wifi seems to drop randomly as well and doing app update all causes reboot 8/10. I tried several restores and it ALWAYS bootloops before you can finish the setup with only remedy is to pull battery again. I've been looking for a way to install a new factory image like you can with Samsung or just about any other makers but I have not come across one for H820. Any available type of "restore" is just a recycle of what's already in the phone so it doesn't help if it's bad.
Bottom line: We are screwed unless you are still under warranty or you are part of the class action lawsuit that settled. I don't expect anyone to spend their precious time on rooting this garbage or come up with way to flash new set of rom, even a factory one.

I wouldn't waste time and money with repair shop. LG phones are cheaply made but the plus side is that it's easy to disassemble and there are plenty of how-to on YT land. I've since bought N8 so I'm planning on taking it apart and see if applying thermal paste here and there will help with the heat issue. But I'm 75% certain it's a bad image after updates because I didn't have overheat issue until the update. Again, my wife's phone received update just like mine and her phone is solid, until she dropped it and cracked the cheap, warped screen. Still works, though.

Its not the problem with me it just some times reboots, every thing else works fine. In a typical day it reboots about 3 to 6 times. Other than that everything is fine.
I also think it is the problem with the software, we need to get our hands on KDZ or TOT but ATT & LG are too greedy. Its almost 3 years now they should release the firmware files. I'm never gonna buy LG phones again. First i had LG G2 my first LG phone, it used to have the problem of phantom touches and one line on screen where touch doesn't work. Than i bought LG G3 which was working fine for me but my friends G3 used to reboot randomly. Now G5 has this problem. I'm never gonna buy LG phones again.
Hello
I had this same issue with the V10, seems to be the same issue, and it's heat related, i just added a copper shim and some thermal paste, i took a look at the disassembled G5 and the fix is doable, take a look at my instructions, it takes very little time
Perhaps with just thermal past is enough to fix it

LG V60 ThinkQ Dual screen problems?

I hopped on the T-MO B1G1 deal with my brother and after a week of trying things out, we noticed every now and then our dual screen (when both screens are active) the left one glitches. Does anyone have that problem? See picture attachment for an idea. In a nutshell, this only happens when I have both screens active and multi-tasking at times where the left screen will get a glitchy lighting error.
The glitch is either a quick shut off and turn on with the left screen or it quickly changes the left screen to be bright and colorful as shown in the picture.
If anyone ran into this problem and know how to fix it, please share it! My brother's LG v60 doesn't get this dual-screen glitch as often, only once or twice for him while I'm getting it almost everyday. I'm hoping to avoid another format, I'm wondering if it's an app or setting that is not compatible with dual screen.
Thanks
*Looks like I can't post a picture yet until I get more posts in.*
Your unit is defected. Contact t-mobile for a replacement. There are videos on youtube of a few users with the same experience.
I myself haven't had issues, I've had it for a week now
Had mine since march 25th and no issues either.
Here is the video on youtube about one reviewer with a 2nd display issue

Thanks for all the replies! It happened to my bro's LG V60 today again and so we are pretty sure both of our dual screen is defected.
I'll try with LG Promise warranty to see if I can get a replacement dual screen first, hopefully they can take care of it faster than T-Mobile. T-mobile has been giving me ****ty customer service lately, so hopefully LG can make it right.
Thanks all.
Now normally TMobile will overnight a device if you have insurance. If you don't have insurance it's a 3-5 day wait for a replacement
Wide-mode app part of this?
I ran into this with my AT&T velvet. LG replaced it and it's been working for the past week.
Question: Did you install the wide-mode for LG app? I was wondering if that might have done something to some bit of memory somewhere. It didn't claim to support the Velvet but I tried it anyway. I don't remember if that's when it started acting up. I factory-reset the phone to see if that helped but the problem kept re-occurring. I emailed the app's author but got no reply.
I figured I'd ask. I'd like to re-install the app but don't want to possibly mess things up.
Thanks,
Frank
I got the phone over the weekend and mines glitches often i when back to t mobile and they replaced my dual screen and yet again with in a hour it still glitching
try a little tape/padding between the phone bottom port and the case usb plug, its probably a connection problem, poor design, im unable to return mine so this worked great for me.
dual Screen bad connection, maybe solved with wedge?
My dual screen case has been playing up, about 90% of the time i clip on the case the screen does not work after a few minutes due to movement. it seems LG has made a bad design with the usb c connection and poga style pins at the bottom of...

I had to have my dual screen replaced. The screen would just turn green and fade out. Lg sent it in less than a week. There's no reason to resort to things like tape or stuff. All V60s are still under warranty. Just send the screen part back to lg and they will replace it.

I'm in the same boat, and used the same solution. I have a thin metal disc that mates with a magnet to use as a stand, mount the phone, etc. (IM Stick). Installing that disc at the very bottom of the case gave the USB C connector just what it needed to mate correctly. Bonus: No interference with wireless charging!
