so I have my galaxy note 2 rooted and I was wondering if I unlock the bootloader will I lose all of the pictures videos etc on my phone memory? In other words, can I unlock the bootloader without losing any of my settings? is the only way to unlock the bootloader for VRALL4 the back atcha Verizon program?
Unlocking the bootloader will not impact data, pics, etc. That said, its always a good idea to back up you data periodically as hard drives do fail, SD cards get corrupted, phones get lost etc. One easy way to do that is auto sync pics to dropbox or another cloud service.
As for the unlock method you have it right...Adam's is the one and only way.

So here is my dilemma...
I purchased the GT-I9300 only to find out that it is not in line with T-Mobile's 4G network which means I can't reap the full benefits of 4G for my new phone. I was contemplating relocking the phone to be in tune with T-Mobile's network when two things occured to me:
1) Is such a thing even possible. I've heard of people unlocking their phones but never a relock. Can it even be done with an international phone?
2) Is there another option for me being state-side? I would rather not go through the hassle of having the phone relocked (if possible) if there was another way for me to boost my speed (currently running on 2G).
Thanks in advance for the help.
You mean locking as in network-locking?
That has nothing to do with network connection, the T-Mobile network simply does (afaik) not work with the i9300 only the US-version.
You can relock it if you know what you're doing or have a backup of your efs folder.
Planning to buy an At&t HTC One M8 but wanted some clarity regarding unlocking the phone.
Will it remove the SIM unlock if I do a factory reset if the phone is:
-Carrier Unlocked
-Third Party paid unlocked
Also, will I get the software updates in the above two scenarios?
Factory unlock is permanent as it is stored in the nvram.. Which is a protected partition in the phone that is separate from your system.

If I unlock an AT&T HTC M8, would I still use the AT&T based roms even though its unlocked on another carrier or would I now use unlocked based roms?
Yes att roms.

Not enough in the OP to sufficiently know what the person has in mind. Namely, the SIM unlock method intended; and also whether you want to stay on the AT&T ROM or change it, versus what ROM you think they need to be on for it to work on your network.
Are you talking about obtaining the subsidy unlock (SIM unlock) code from AT&T? This SIM unlocks the phone, and doesn't modify anything else, so you can and will be on the same stock ROM; which will work fine on the other carrier. You may (probably) need to enter APN info, as the APN info for the "other" carrier will not be pre-configured on the M8.
Alternately, if you intend to unlock the bootloader, S-off and SIM unlock the phone using the method provided here on XDA; then at that point you can install whatever ROM you want, or keep it the stock AT&T ROM.
In any case, it doesn't matter what ROM you are on, in order to make the phone work on a non-AT&T network. However, you might want to install another ROM anyway (or at least root), just to get rid of the AT&T-centric features, apps, limitations (WiFi hotspot is blocked), etc.
In a few days, my phone will be receiving an OEM unlock option. I tried checking whether my bootloader is locked or unlocked. I've only seen one Google result where someone said Samsung locks their bootloaders. So Samsung locks their bootloaders, right? And if so, is it a royal pain in the ass like an AT&T phone? I've been trying to install a ROM onto my AT&T Galaxy S4 and that has been.....lord have mercy.
This is my first unlocked phone (my S9+). I know 'unlocked' refers to the CARRIER and not the bootloader. But once root options are available, how hard is this going to be for an unlocked phone?
Also, when I look for ROMs, root methods or whatnot, do I have to search for kernels/ROMs/whatever for the Unlocked version or can I use an alternative (like a Verizon S9 and it will be the same).
OEM Unlock no way jose
Waited weeks now still not there
Enabling OEM unlock doesn't mean you will be able to unlock the bootloader.

The USA G965 phones would have a locked bootloader regardless of if it came from a carrier or not. Searching seems to indicate that because the bootloader can't be unlocked yet then the OEM unlock won't appear (or it doesn't do anything at all).
.
As for unlocking the bootloader I imagine it is a real PITA. I would imagine that any sort of bootloader unlock would probably come around (or after) a root method is found. Now when that will happen is not certain
any progress toward unlocking the bootloader of the SM-G965U1 ? I bought this Samsung phone from Samsung, and would hope that developers are finding some way to cure the decisions that seem to be in place.
Even though it is supposed to be Unlocked, that probably meant only OEM unlocked, and even then I don't see it directly as an option in settings.

"Unlocked" in this context means SIM unlocked. It also means that it is free of carrier branding and apps. It cannot be rooted.

does that mean that the SIM unlock in this version is ALWAYS present, or should the option show up or be triggered in some way?
It is a nice phone, but it is disappointing that root seems out of reach.
Additionally, I don't seem to get as good a signal as I did with the S5 with TMobile CSC and LineageOS, , in the same location in the middle of the city.

It only means that the firmware is intended to be loaded on phones Samsung sells, which would be SIM unlocked (assuming you didn't buy a carrier version from Samsung). There is no "SIM unlock" option or anything like that. The phone is either SIM locked or it isn't, regardless of firmware.
In any case, none of that has to do with rooting the phone, which remains impossible.
Signal strength has been worse for me on S9+ (all firmwares I've tried) than the older S7 Edge I had. Different phones with different hardware. Not much firmware can do about that.
The option for "OEM unlock" is greyed out with a "connect to internet or contact carrier" error message. This phone allows the unlock code to be sent to my email so this must be a mistake. I've already received my unlock code but I cannot unlock the bootloader without this option enabled.
I've already tried wiping and reinstalling the firmware from the LMSA tool 3 times which was a suggestion on another phone on xda forums. This didn't resolve the issue. I've tried with and without the sim card inserted. I've had the phone for a few days and still greyed out for this option, it's been connected to WiFi and cellular the entire time. My carrier is straight talk and I'm using an unlocked sim as it works on all my other phones to connect to the network and receive data and text messages fine.
The Motorola website says my phone is unlockable and I've received the unlock code for my device, so why can't I enable this option in settings.
There are no updates available for my device.
I had to wait about a week after activation before I was able to unlock the bootloader. Once activating I was able to root it by getting the img file from the LMSA tool. The img is not yet on the Motorola web site and using the same methods as the 2021 Edge.
Here is a question
Can you play paid subscription video app OK?
Edge 2021 cannot after updated to S even with USNF 2.3.1
I am holding off Edge+ 2022 from rooting for this reason.

That makes no sense, "not saying your not telling the truth". Be aware Verizon is pushing these phones hard core, the reason I'm not sure of.....I checked my oem unlock in dev options and it lets me turn mine on..is not greyed out. Where did you get your device from? If you are not happy with it return it. Get a pixel or a OnePlus device.

The option was greyed out for over a week. But eventually it did unlock for me. And I bought my device directly from Motorola. I don't ever buy any devices from cellular providers due to the extra trash they install, not to mention the ton of background processes they install on your device for data collection.
I gotcha...I made the mistake of buying from provider, but fortunately I'm within my 14 day return period, so tomorrow my uw edge+ is going back!! I'm gonna get a OnePlus on Swappa!! The edge+ uw is not worth 900 bucks more like 450 tops! Your smart for staying away from providers!
Is there any kind of development on this? Thanks.
Verizon never lets you unlock the bootloader. Period.
Straight Talk is a Verizon MVNO.
