[Script] USB Mass Storage (UMS) for LG Optimus L9
I've made script that's on every boot changing default USB mode to UMS.
On USB plug it mounts your External SD (doesn't matter if you have swapped IntSD with ExtSD or not )

OMG. GREAT. Something I wanted since long time. Now I can connect the phone to my LCD TV and BlueRay Player directly in USB mode. Thanks (if works)
If this was possible is such a simple step, why those idiots RESTRICETED it?
=====================
Naaaaah!!!
EDIT: Did not work on P765 V20D Hongkong Rom. Tried all USB modes, but it did not loaded as a drive.
On my Sony Blu-Ray it works like a charm

It won't work if you will change USB Mode .
With this script phone on boot is automatically changing usb mode to UMS (UMS is not listed - after connect you should see all positions unchecked)

Its strange. I lost 3G connectivity. Is it by any chance related to 3G? May be I am stupid to ask this, but I flashed this and lost 3G. Getting Error 106, internet connection lost. :crying:

yes, i also think so. but seems some co-incidence.
Thank you very much !
It works perfectly on my P760 with JB V20C Europe (your ZIP file was flashed through CWM Recovery 6.0.3.1).
It was one of the most important regression since my previous phone ! :highfive: (the other one is call recording : I tried everything possible and didn't get any result )
@cmahendra : I didn't get any issue on my 3G connectivity; so I don't think there is any relation.

I know.
Just tell me which usb mode you are in?
EDIT1: After 2/3 restarts and using net on WiFi, again checked 3G is ok. Could be some stupid combination error. Fine
EDIT2: Deleted 30ums.
Not working on P760 V20B
tried all usb modes.
Currently, I only have the external SD card which appears as the second partition when I plug the phone. Would it be possible to have internal memory (storage/sdcard0) on as the UMS drive partition ?
Thank you in advance

As it was said in the original post, I am in "Charge only" USB mode (the first one in the list). When my phone is plugged to my computer, "Storage Mass" text appears under bold "Charge only" text and I can see my SD card loaded as an external drive.
But it didn't work on my first plug. So, I thought it was because I made a mistake in CWM Recovery because, I remembered I saw a message when I asked my system reboot and I answered "Yes" without reading it (stupid reaction...). I decided to restart CWM Recovery, flash the ZIP again and take more care about the message on reboot request (in fact, it was just asking if I want to reflash the recovery because it could have been replaced by the ZIP, this time I said "No").
On the next plug, it worked. I also deactivated USB debugging before.

Sorry! It was my typo mistake. that was "NOT WORKING"
I think I also saw that question and did same mistake. In fact I saw this message few weeks before also for some other cwm session, dont remember when, and therefore I was also clicked on "Yes". Will check later.
THANKS. This info should be there in OP.
I hope mateo1111 saw this post.
EDIT: I tried this again but did not worked.
Selecting "NO" in CWM while rebooting.
I am in "Charge only" USB mode
Deactivated USB debugging mode option.
Still this does not work for me. I see Removable disks but when clicked, it shows error like in attached screenshot.
Or is it not for V20D? I am on V20D Hongkong.

Remove my script and try to manually run commands (using adb shell or terminal):
Code:
su
echo "/dev/block/vold/179:61" > /sys/devices/virtual/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun0/file
setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage,adb
If it's still not working - reboot phone and manually go to "/sys/devices/virtual/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun0/file" (check if directories aren't different - maybe that's why script is not working)
You can manually edit "file" - content should look like this:
Code:
/dev/block/vold/179:61
Then execute commands:
Code:
su
setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage,adb

Phew!! This time it worked with ADB SHELL way. THANKS A LOT!!!:good:+2
First I checked the folder location, it was ok but the file named "file" was showing as 4KB size. When I copies it on pc to examine, it was 0 bytes. I even tried to edit on place in phone, but got error message, "no space to copy file".
Then I started ADB SHELL and gave above commands after su and it worked perfect. It started checking driver. Then I changed USB mode to "CHARGE ONLY" mode and pc loaded generic Mass-Storage driver and DRIVE I: appeared in "My Computer".:good:Even rebooting was not required. It changed in live mode.
Something is not working with Flashable Zip, otherwise the process is working fine with manual changes. After flashing the ZIP, the content of "file" file should change but it was 0 bytes, that means the ZIP is not able to make changes in CWM mode. This should be rechecked. I am on V20D HK
I was also confused and misguided for Debugging Mode to deactivate, which was not necessary. Now Debugging Mode is on but still the MASS-STORAGE is working.
Then why did LG removed this mode?
Thanks again.
EDIT: Internal Storage does not work right? But that is just fine as most important data is in external card..
I have managed to get it work with PAC-man 22.1.0, i think it must work on CM 10.1 also.
I had uninstalled the LG Drivers and ADB Drivers and then my L9 (P760) was recognized from my PC as Mass Storage.
I hope this can help.
It is working fine on artas' ROM (I used the manual way).
I was looking for this from the first time I connected the phone to PC, really thank you!
Edit: it is possible to mount a second mass storage using "lun1" instead of "lun0". I can't find the internal sd device....
the internal sd-card can't be mounted as mass storage at the Moment

SINCE FREE X10 IS NOW BETA, THIS HOW TO IS NO LONGER VALID
Hello world !
I noticed there was nothing to explain simply how to install the increible X10 Free Rom in dual-boot with your regular 2.1 rom of Zdzihu.
** No responsability for anything, you are all responsible of what you're doing !! **
** Please follow ALL these steps. Don't try to be Indiana Jones by flashing your device without all the tools needed !!! **
INSTALL
(for 1st install)
Before attempting anything, make sure you have AT LEAST 50% of battery charge. Don't try anything with low battery, you can abort the flashing and brick your device !!!
Please make sure you're also running a 2.1 rom (Generic, nordic, official, custom...)
- Download FreeX10 v0.0.1 file (NOT 002 yet !!!)
- Download Android SDK
You don't need to save the entire archive (but you can), you just need the Tools folder (because it contains ADB, the Android Debug Bridge we need to install files).
- On x10 :
Download and install Busybox (from Market), make sure it says "Done!".
Connect your x10 in USB, mount SD card, and copy files FreeX10.zip and install on the root of your SD Card.
Enable USB debugging (Parameters > Applications > Development).
- On your computer, go in the Tools folder, open a DOS prompt (for Windows 7 : hold CAPS + right click, you'll see Open a DOS prompt) and
type :
Code:
adb shell
(this will run ADB shell... You will get a "$")
- Type :
Code:
su
(this will make you super-user, you will get a "#")
- Type :
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/install of=/data/install && chmod 777 /data/install && /data/install
(It will display "11", "1+1", or "inflating:..." ...)
- Wait, have a beer, pray for your sins for your phone not to turn into a $600 brick
- One minute after, when it shows
Code:
All done, please reboot!
, reboot ! (But you can gently quit ADB by typing
Code:
exit
twice
)
Note : regarding me, I typed "exit" to quit ADB, I turned off ADB on phone and disconnected USB. You can do, it's even safer
- Wait up to 5 minutes for the phone to boot, it is NORMAL !!!! It looks stuck on Sony Ericsson logo and/or on Free X10 logo, it's NOT stuck !!! You MUST wait !!!!
- It will finally run normal, your phone is alive and 2.2-hearted !!
You are now eligible to install v0.0.2 (as it comes as an update).
Dual Boot usage
This rom comes with a great Dual Boot, which means the 2.2.1 is installed safely apart from your original 2.1 rom. This means you can switch back anytime to stock rom. To say it simply :
- Your Android 2.1 is here, and no changes are made to it (apps, version, etc etc). It is stored as it has to be, in the internal 1Gb phone memory storage (called the "NAND").
- FreeX10 (2.2.1) is running from image files (like .ISO files) stored in your SD Card. This means the two Android are living together peacefully, without affecting (theorically) each other.
FreeX10 mainly creates a bootloader, for you to choose whether to test 2.2.1, or go back to 2.1 for your daily use.
- To run 2.2.1 : do nothing (default boot)
- To run 2.1 : press any key at boot, when it shows "Sony Ericsson".
Notes when upgrading to v0.0.2 :
- As Android is stored into image files (.IMG), upgrading will wipe out all your content (it does a fresh "install"), make backup of what you need !
- to avoid future bugs, altough you're not forced to do, do the routines to make sure Wifi, root, packages install, ... work. This is because USB debug can break, so you won't be able to use ADB to fix these bugs
- Root is strongly recommended to work, because it's cool and because the CPU performance is set to highest : stuck at 998MHz all the time, it will drain your battery like hell ! You can switch it back to original power saving plan (ondemand plan) by using (ie) SetCPU. Root required !
If your Android goes instable, does not work anymore, or you want a fresh install after lots of tests, simply drag and drop the original v0.0.2 .img files on your SD card. This will make you boot into a fully fresh install.
For all bugs, commands, etc.. Please go first to this excellent (and very easy) thread !!
Nice..

killall servicemanager
3. If you don't have root access, please open ADB shell and issue this command:
chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hope it helps too
UPDATE TO v.0.0.2
Note : you can only update from 0.0.1 to 0.0.2. I mean you can't do a fresh install of 0.0.2, you MUST have 0.0.1 installed !
- Download v0.0.2 from main thread.
- Run your device on your regular 2.1 rom (while off, power on, and press any button when it displays Sony Ericsson logo)
- Mount the SD Card, then copy data.img and system.img from the archive into the folder /FreeX10. Replace the two .img files.
- Reboot into 2.2, have fun ^^

Does it work when your run "adb" command only ?
It looks to me your error is because you're not in the folder where adb.exe is
It is in folder tools, if you try to run it from root directory (where is the android app with nice icon) it won't work for sure
Edit: didn't see your screenshot >> you are NOT in the correct folder !! (so Windows is searching for a registered command which does not exist, I think there's a thread somewhere on how to add it as a registered (I mean global) command)
You must download Android SDK (22mb... Lmao regarding 4gb for iOS ), extract the archive and go in the tools folder. Here is adb.exe.
when i try & run adb exe it does not open it just closes right away
Hi everyone
My phone screen is completely smashed but it appears that the phone can still turn on. I've connected it to the laptop and it seems to connect (installing driver, etc) but it doesnt come up on windows explorer. Presumably because the phone is encrypt + PIN locked. I tried tapping randomly on the phone screen but my guess is that it is not registering but even if it is it would be impossible to get the right decryption code in.
1. Is there a way to display the screen output either on TV / Monitor / Computer ?
2. Even better can I get the display replicated on the laptop with a USB connection and navigate through that
I suspect the answer to all of this is no and I just have accept the photos are gone. Any ideas are welcome.
Thanks for reading

theres not much you can do if you got a pin or screen security.did you enable usb debugging?
Do full wipe try to look into pictures of recovery.
Send form Galaxy S2. Using XDA Premium
If you had USB debugging enabled, then you can easily use ADB to copy out your files
Paulius7 : what do you mean by full wipe - I can't see anything on the screen at the moment
Jokesy: The phone is probably stuck at the password to decrypt in which case I suspect adb wouldn't work. I haven't used that before but might give it a go
Thanks for all the suggestions

So .. the good news is usb debug is on. Downloaded android sdk and java. I'm new at this and this is what happened

tried it on the new replacement S3

any ideas ? I appreciate your help Jokesy and we have seen progress although I accept that the chance of reaching our end point still remains low

no that's because /sdcard is not mounted.
follow this tutorial
Boot to recovery, then follow these steps:
1. Connect your device to your pc
2. Open command prompt from Adb folder. (hold shift key, then right click on a blank space, select open command window here)
3. #check if your device is connected via adb by typing in the command window:
adb devices
4. adb shell
5. mount sdcard
6. ## check the directories of the sdcard just to be sure by typing:
ls /sdcard
7. exit
8. adb pull /sdcard \mysdcard
wait for the process to finish
Check you C: drive for a folder named "mysdcard". all the files and folders in your internal storage will be there.

were you using adb from recovery?
probably not earlier. i've tried again - blindly getting into recovery - and i think i did as windows then say installing adb driver - but now when you do "ls" there is no sdcard. tried mount sdcard and the same error message
Hi, I present you CWM Recovery 6 with easy apk installer for LG L9 (For now tested P760 and P765). It has few bugs but This recovery is stable for use. Now It supports JellyBean and other roms.
Recovery tested on: P760, P765, P768 (on other variants recovery also should work)
If you have unlocked bootloader use this better recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2394985
What is working:
Backup and Restore
Installing zip
ADB
All partitions are mounted
Internal SD Card fully working!
Charging
SD-EXT partition (only ext3)
What isn't working:
External and Internal SD USB Mount (can't be fixed because recovery don't allow to mount mtp, copy files through adb or use this app to copy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057059)
Requirements:
LG L9
Root
Correct busybox
Download: http://artas182x.tk/?page_id=6
Installation:
Download and Install apk
Run L9 Recovery Installer
Press Install/Update Recovery
Press CWM ICS/JB (Stable)
Click Yes, Install Recovery
Done
Recovery can be updated on older version normally through Install/Update Recovery
Fix for users which didn't have error during installation, but they can't boot to recovery (thanks for @Tablechair for detailed instructions
Tablechair said:
Long long time ago this recovery refused to work for me. I installed busybox with this installer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bitcubate.root.busybox.complete it worked for me and 100% of people I've recommended it to. Give it a shot

Booting to recovery:
Turn off phone
Turn on, when LG logo appears and leds will be blinking press and hold vol down button
You are in recovery
You can also use option in CWM installer to reboot to CWM
Video of installing and booting to recovery: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCO_I2TgowE
Removing recovery:
Delete /system/bootstrap directory
Delete /system/bin/e2fck
Rename /system/bin/e2fck.bin to e2fck
Done!
Thanks to:
milaq - for the CWM Installer for Prada. I was basing on this recovery.
About SD-EXT support
I added support for sd-ext partition. For now only ext3 partition works. To use compatible with my recovery sd-ext parition I reccomend to partition sd card usung Advanced>Partition SD Card in my recovery. All data will be deleted! After this paritioning sd-ext works with my recovery and Link2SD. If you partition SD Card in recovery don't try to create swap partition, because we haven't got support for swap.
Changelog:
1.5.0.0
Support for Jellybean and other roms
1.4.0.0
Stable SD-EXT (ext3) support
Fixed ADB, now working correctly
Changed some text to make installer cleaner
1.3.1.0
Changes only to test version
SD-EXT support, but it is still in testing. See Notes above changelog, because sd-ext don't work in 100% (you must partition sd card with recovery)
1.3.0.0
All bugs fixed
Can't still mount Internal and External SD because can't mount in recovery through MTP, please copy files through adb or use this app to copy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057059)
1.2.0.0
Fixed Internal SD
Some texts in apk changed
FAQ:
Q: How to install and use this?
A: Everything wrote in this theard.
Q: What is CWM?
A: Here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/ClockworkMod_Recovery
Q: When I do Backup in CWM and check backup folder size i see size about 20 mb, my backup should be about 1 GB?
A: Don't worry. CWM since 6 version use diffrent backup format. CWM don't store everything in backup directory, It uses diffrent directories and backup structute. Everything is OK!
Q: I installed CWM and it don't boot.
A: Check if You propely installed this CWM, nad check if you propely boot to recovery. Maybe you tried to install other recovery? If It still doesn't work reflash firmware with KDZ (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344), and try to install on clean, rooted rom.

Any word on the 769?
I fixed not mounted internal sdcard! Now interanl sdcard works, but data must be mounted to internal sdcard work.
thanks so much, works perfectly on p760.
no need to keep pressing VOL -.:good:
New version with fixed Internal SD is here (updated theard). Internal SD won't be working in 100% (see "What isn't working), because internal sd is located in /data/media directory. Internal sd is on the same partition as data.
Should this work for 769? Ive bricked the phone once dont want to risk something and try again
Recovery not working:
"Error while restoring data!"
after restart - hangs on LG logo
Was this error when restoring data, system, cache, boot or recovery. I restored cache and there wasn't any error.
I know, unmount all partitions in mounts and stortage first before restore in recovery. For me works.
Wysyłane z mojego LG-P760 za pomocą Tapatalk 2
I made a backup, then reset the data, and choose Restore.

The phone not boot. Only LG logo runs in a circle.
Rescues: volume- + menu + power = reset
PS. Restored the phone, once again made a restore (with out wipe)
The result is the same - "Error while restoring /data!", and no boot.
Before restore go to Mounts and Stortage then Unmount data, next restore from backup without restart. I did that and It works.
I did version with fix, and fully working internal stortage (I must do only usb mount). You could install zips from internal sd!
EDIT: New version avilable
artas182 if for restore backup requires unmounted partition, this should be written in capital letters:
Before restore go to Mounts and Stortage then Unmount data or you will get a device that can not boot!. (I spent the whole day on restoring phone)
By the way, [RECOVERY] [P940] ClockworkMod Recovery + TeamWin Recovery for LG Prada 3.0 v1.0.1.0 runs fine on P765 without unmounting data
Works in p768?
Enviado desde mi LG-P768 usando Tapatalk 2
no recovery
i installed the recovery 2 times and tried everything to get into it, but it doesn't work.
the firmware is fresh flashed per kdz and rooted with "root_with_restore". the recovery installer says it is installed.
btw the leds on my lg l9 (german) didn't ever BLINK on boot, but turn and stay on the last 2 seconds of boot process.
when i then press vol_down, the phone goes into "safe mode". per rom manager, i can't boot into recovery, it boots
into a "fallen down android with excl. mark on opened stomach"^^
i wonder, if my phone does even HAVE any kind of (stock) recovery...and as it seems, THIS kind of recovery isn't
installed where it should usually be on other android devices (so that rom manager can find it).
Now you don't need need to umount data I fixed it in new version avialablr here. Everything works fine.
I don't tested it in P768 but It should work.
If recovery don't work you must do somerhing wrong. For 95 % of users it works. Maybe try to hard reset.

On my p765 now everything works fine
and restore is also working without unmounting data
thanks
The first version works very well on my phone (except the internal sd card), the lastest version doesn't start.. i see blinking leds, then I press volume- and I'm stuck on the LG logo.. Same thing if I reboot from the app.
Edit: It's working fine on my P760, thank you again!
Which format best for backup/restore - tar or blob?
The last version works fine on p760,dont need to press vol - or any button.

I dont know. But propably you lost 3g conection so do NOT try.
Edit: I found instruction for 3G - root and cwm. (you can use Google Transtalor) For swap memory follow instructions from this thread.

But I do not take responsibility for this, because I dont tested it!

ah yes
This family of devices seem to partition/mount the flash card on the fly, depending on kernel parameters passed at boot (look at the output of dmesg | grep initrd).
If you want to repartition the flash memory to expand the /data partition, you can use RK29xxImageTools to unpack the official .img, replace the kernel parameter file and repack the .img.
Attached you can find the parameter file I use to expand /data to 2GB.
BACKUP THE TABLET before trying because /data and /mnt/sdcard will be erased!!!
The idea is that you can expand /data by reducing the space available for /mnt/sdcard.

Any chance of getting support for the f460 (G3 Cat6) series? What files would you need (or that i could swap out) to make it happen?
@somboons : you're tool seems to be awesome, but I got one issue; it doesn't detect my phone; it stays on "waiting for device". But when I launch for example "adb devices" in a command prompt, it detects my phone. I got all drivers installed, adb, my phone is rooted, has usb debugging enable. Do you know issue's source?

@somboons : you're tool seems to be awesome, but I got one issue; it doesn't detect my phone; it stays on "waiting for device". But when I launch for example "adb devices" in a command prompt, it detects my phone. I got all drivers installed, adb, my phone is rooted, has usb debugging enable. Do you know issue's source?

Edit: When I manually enter in Download Mode, your app detects my phone, but when I ask to your app to enter my phone in Download Mode, same issue: not detected
