[Q] half bricked desire - HTC Desire X

Can anyone tell me how to fix my phone, I installed xpirt ROM, and I wanted to try skydragoon, but I first flashed boot.img, before ROM, now my phone won't boot

flash previous boot.img (which you used while using xpirt rom) and do nandroid restore, or flash previous boot.img and then flash xpirts rom, then flash skydragon as you were supposed to in first time
and I am thinking, but... both of these roms should work with same kernels, or not?

Go on recovery, do a full wipe, flash boot.img in fastboot of the ROM you want and than flash the ROM you chose.

Ok I made it boot, but now I can't boot anything else but skydragon, I flash xpirt boot.img, then do full wipe, then flash xpirt ROM, and reboot, and it boots in skydragon

First wipe all (you can use SuperWipe script in development section) and than flash boot (fastboot) and ROM (recovery).

Ok, thanks

[SCRIPT] SuperWipe Script - Use before flashing ROMs

SuperWipe Script
This script was created by mike1986 and he give me permission to port this from his Android Revolution HD ROMs.
So all credits to him and his team!
SuperWipe is used to clean your current phone partitions to make it ready for a brand new ROM version to be installed.
This script will erase and format your data, system, boot and cache partition.
Your SD card will remain untouched FAT32 and it's recommended to leave it like that.
Click to collapse
DOWNLOAD for ICS
DOWNLOAD for JB
So before you flash any ROMs, flash the SuperWipe script in recovery. It will wipe out the partitions and reboot back into recovery.
Make sure you flash a ROM or else you can't boot up! (Unless you flash an RUU)
Thanks to navmad for testing. It works fine!

@xpirt: I flashed the wrong SuperWipe (should have flashed JB) and now my SDCARD will not mount. Is there any way to reformat or superwipe the phone using fastboot? Any recommendation will earn a huge THUMP UP!
Maybe you accidentally wiped your sdcard? In that case, format it again.

So this script will avoid use "adb erase boot" every time that we want to do a clean install?
But what's the difference between flash new boot.img over an older boot.img and erase boot partition before flashing?
I thought that it didn't matter if boot partition isn't wiped (unless boot.img is corrupt or something else).
EDIT: it doesn't work for me, superwipe doesn't work neither adb erase/format boot do. I think it has something related to S-ON devices, precisely on carriers' smarthpones, like mine, I think that Vodafone locks boot partition with S-ON for some part to store simlock or something...
I get error 1 ? When flash it ?
You sure you tried the right version? If you are on hboot 1.24 and lower, use the ICS version. If you are on hboot 1.25, use the JB version. Also, make sure you have the right recovery installed.
I think it can't touch boot partition, because it's locked on S-ONs, ian't that why we have to flash kernel manually through fastboot after flashing new rom?

I have fixed recovery for jb and 1.25 hboot. And I i try both versions for ics and jb.Aways Error (Status 1) or something
Why do you want to flash a wipe script. The wipe options in recovery are more than capable to handle such things.
And just flash whatever boot.img you want, it will overwrite the previous one without any issues.
Make your life easier.

Black screen on every non-stock ROM.

So I had a Desire C for an year or so, and I flashed the heck out of it, so I am fairly experienced with flashing, rooting, adb/fastboot commands and that kind of stuff. For two weeks now I have a Desire X. But after flashing Half-Sense, myONEdx+, mySENSEdx+ (ofc. after flashing boot.img for each one) I just get a black screen (backlit black screen, so it's actually on). But after flashing to a non-backup stock rom (including ones with busybox, init.d support) they work fine. So essencialy I can't flash anything non-stock. Wat do?
Same here, flashed fulmix rom black screen and then reboot to recovery...
Restored backup and woeking...
Using TWRP 2.6 and my own kernel just write protection disabled..
Sent from my HTC Desire X using xda premium

Yes, SIDENOTE/offtopic I had a soft brick after a few days of use after trying to install ACID audo which led me to reinstall my Windows so the adb drivers work properly and then I could adb push another vanilla zip. All this because I don't have another device with sdcard support lol.

Not quite... If he flashed CM boot.img for Sense ROM, he shouldn't see boot animation at all. What he obviously did is flashing a CM ROM and CM boot.img, but one that won't boot the CM ROM. Bootanimation is part of the ROM, not of kernel... So what I would suggest for @4js: Redownload ViMiRo Rom, also redownload any Sense JB kernel from Original Development you like, wipe your phone and reflash everything. That should solve your issues.

ok, what exactly did you try?
cause im a beginner in flashing smartphones, there are some things i don't understand
1) when i do a factory reset with twrp 2.6.3.0, there should be wiped data, cache and dalvik, .android_secure
but when i afterwards do a advanced wipe everything succeded, exept dalvik cache, there it fail
2) after a succeded factory reset without os installed, i reboot, and then also i stuck at a boot logo
shouldn't that not be wiped too?
could an other recover.img from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502327 help?

i tried different roms, exactly how it was explained, but never succedded, after rebooting i always stuck at the boot logo

[Q]How can I temporary boot a custom kernel using adb?

Hi,
I want to temporary boot my nexus 6 with ElementalX.
I'm familiar with the fastboot command fastboot boot boot.img
But what boot img I need to use after downloading the flashable zip file of the kernel?
Pics provided below, which file I need to use for the fastboot command?
I don't believe you can flash Elemental kernel in that regards as it is set up differently than many custom boot.imgs. Even if you did, you would be missing out on many functions of the kernel without the other settings being installed. You could either do a nandroid backup of your boot and system and restore that when you were done testing the kernel or dirty flash just the rom you are on (they have flashable stock roms in the forums) while just wiping the cache and dalvik cache.

But I'll try to do a nandroidbackup . funny I never though to do that. Thanks.
Yea, for best results, use TWRP, make a backup, then flash what you need. No reason to keep a stock recovery setup if you are running a custom kernel and root as you will not want to take OTA updates anyway. Keep in mind that it is also recommended to update the radio and bootloader. I have seen reports of members being fine without them, but it's best practice to keep them all updated together. If you don't want to mess with any of that and don't care about being rooted or customized at all, then you will just want to unlock the bootloader and flash the factory img files from Google and then all partitions will be updated to official 6.0 and you'll be done with it. If you go that route, remember to backup your internal storage as unlocking the bootloader and the update will wipe everything.

Ok, this is the point when you forget about any data and you just want your device to work.
Try go to fastboot mode, it it can, flash zcx twrp recovery from pc (you can find it in this forum), than flash normal twrp img from this and reboot to recovery. (anyway if there is anything in the internal storage you can copy to pc at this point like photos etc.)
Wipe data, cache, dalvik, system, reinstall everything.
NEVER flash custom kernel over an other custom kernel.
