How to add LTE icons - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hi all. I'm on a Rom that doesn't have 4G LTE icons. Can I add some? How do I add them?

I too would like this. I was on the collective rom and signal icons were there and working. Anyway to get that on other rooms?

I would like a bacon icon to show when I am on an LTE network. If not, my whole phone experience is ruined.

Thanks for the help my man. Being that T-Mobile is just now rolling out LTE in my area, I'd kinda sorta like to know what areas in Houston I go to that have LTE. The only way I can actually tell is when I use a different rom that gives me slower speeds, but does have LTE icons. I'd like to stay with the rom I have and add LTE icons to it. Didn't think it would be this much trouble. Troll on.

Sorry buddy, but the rom doesn't have anything to do with your speed. That is determined by traffic at the tower (number of users connected to it), the modem you have (the baseband), APN settings, and the weather. ROM has nothing to do with it and icons have nothing to do with it.
You get the best speed your modem can give you under the conditions I named, whether the corresponding icon is in the phone framework or not. Sorry you didn't like my answer. Go have some bacon -- it won't change anything, but it is delicious.

I have two different Roms. Flashed them both and did speed test on both. About a good 10 times each. Standing in the same spot. The Rom I'm on right now consistently gave me higher DL & UL speeds. I didn't change anything. No APN's and modems. I wouldn't think it would make a difference, but I really really really would like the Icons to show when I'm picking up the LTE signal. I just feel better knowing what I'm getting and where i'm getting it. It's cause it's still new here in Houston. While bacon is delicious and there's never really a bad time for it, it won't help me with my current question. Though it will supply me with the necessary energy to keep pushing on in my quest to add 4G LTE Icons to the rom I'm using.

Well my bacon loving friend, many ROMs we have are ported from phones without LTE modems so they don't have the icon and probably can't be added. The only place I know you can check to know for sure is the settings>about phone>status>network type. Maybe in the market there is a signal strength app. I will look and see.

Ahhh ok. That answers it then. I'm on IMM76D.DXLJ2-h0tw1r3 and I've seen H+ before. when i was doing the speed tests, the icon was just 4G. I only knew it was LTE because the speed test said so. I can't look down and see if I'm on regular 4G or LTE though.

The ROM base is from Singapore for their version of the note, the N7005. They don't have LTE yet so there is no LTE icon. But they do have t-mobile there and they use H+ icon for their high speed data network type.

Possible to get Vibrant to display H instead of 3G?

I was wondering if there was something I could download, or something from the market that i could download that would make my phone say H instead of 3G? My vibrant is not rooted.
I'm wondering why... but there won't be an app to do that. The G E and 3G icons are held in drawables. So unless you make your own update.zip with replaces drawables, I don't that's going to happen.

Why do you want it to display that? The H is generally displayed when you're using HSPA/HSPA+. If you're connected t 3G it will say 3G. If you're connected to Edge, you'll get an E and if you're on the barebones cell network all you get is the number of bars you have.

I think he wants his phone to be like nexus one is, or other android phones are running custom roms, specifically cyanogen mod. With cm, it will jump from 3g to h icon quite often when data is used, does it to me in my area. I get hspa speeds here, but 3g is the only icon displayed. I like it this way more, the constant jump from 3g to hspa in notifications pane is annoying. Maybe he just wants people to see that his phone is on hspa and not 3g, because the icon doesn't change to that on stock rom.

Not true. I have a stock rom on my Vibrant and it does toggle between 3g and hybrid. It just depends on whether or not you have the new radios broadcasting in your area. Some markets have a lot of hybrid running, while many others have little to none. One of my best friends is an RF tech for T-Mo.

No ****, Einstein! It stands for HSDPA, but ask any switch tech and he will tell you its hybrid. Right now in many markets, it is a true hybrid mix of HSDPA and 3g and not explicitly one or the other. Do some research before you criticize someone, retard!

I downloaded the user manual to the vibrant (not the one that comes in the box) and it definitely says that there is a 'H' icon. I wonder why they don't have it displayed when actually connected to a HSDPA+ connection?
This is the text next to the 'H' Icons:
Displays when the 3G+ network connection is active.
Displays when your phone is communicating with the
3G+ network.
What does it mean when there's just a G?
3G means 3G
E means EDGE
H means Hybrid/HSPA or whatever. I was out of town last weekend, and noticed that it was just a G.

Is there a way to turn off 4G LTE and use 3G?

I have read that the 4G LTE drains your battery much much faster than 3G does, so I was wondering if there was a way to force the phone to switch to 3G mode only. I thought it would be in setting, but I can't seem to find it. Maybe there's an app?
Plus I have noticed that where I live there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference between 4G LTE and 3G... at least in my area right now.
just like when i was on sprint the 4G radio drained much faster than 3g i agree
however i believe you cannot turn this off at this point
maybe we will when we get more roms n such
(but i think somebody said the Bell version has an LTE on/off,not for ATnT though)
It is avilable on custom roms like this one
You would think there would be an app that could do that. I see some for other phones in the market. Maybe one that works for the AT&T Galaxy S2/Skyrocket? Those are 4G LTE devices I believe. Those are the closest to the Note.

As to the OP, why oh why would you ever want to turn off LTE? So you can save some battery, come on stick a charger in it and charge it. You bought a 4G phoblet use it. Gotta love the 4G LTE speeds over 3G.

I can answer that question I already posted this in another thread, but I'll post here (also note I am not getting my Note until tomorrow or saturday, so this is secondhand assumption). I live around 45 to 60 minutes away from an LTE capable city but the LTE range doesn't reach my home. When I'm at home, I'd like to be easily turn LTE off, but easily turn it on when I'm in town.
I think that's where the OP is coming from, though what do I know?

Follow the link in shaolinx's post, apparently the SauROM has the capability to toggle it with the Jkay mods that are included. If you're up for flashing ROMS, I think that would be an easy fix.
I have the same question about turning off LTE. I don't live in one of the few cities where LTE is offered. Can't I save battery by turning it off?

Read the thread, it has already been stated that SauROM has an easy on/off switch for this, flash the ROM and you'll be good.
On another note though, if you are not in an LTE city, it apparently doesn't affect battery life as it will not search for signal if there is not one present.
But if you want to be sure, flash the ROM.
The reason I asked this was because 4G LTE sucks where I am at. Speeds are roughly the same as 3G. I am guessing it is because I'm on the outer fringes of LA's 4G LTE range. Turning off 4G and keeping with 3G will conserve battery and probably give me a few more hours of juice.
I want to keep my device as stock as possible, so I don't want to go the root/rom route. Guess I'll have to wait till someone creates an app to do so. They have this sort of thing for other devices, so I think it is only a matter of time. The Note has been selling very well overseas as well as here... so I am sure there will be tons specific apps geared towards the Note.

I did read the thread and I understand. Thanks. I plan to flash the ROM as soon as I get my Note.
You answered my question but how does the device know that there is no LTE unless it turns LTE on occassionally to check? And if it is turning it on\off\on to check, then that uses battery, right? Not trying to be arguementative. Just trying to understand. Thanks.
If you go to SETTINGS>WIRELESS SETTINGS> MOBILE NETWORK SETTINGS> NETWORK MODE> and click on GSM only that might just put you in 3G mode. Its worth the shot.
We don't have that menu option on the AT&T Note.

[Q] JB ROMS radio signal loss?

Hello DInc 4G community,
I was curious to know if anyone else has seen low call signal or 4G signal loss with JB based ROMs? I have tried CM10.1 and the Avatar ROM and when flashing either, the cell signal strength only show's up to 3 bars as well as my phone always reverting to 3G instead of 4G. If I go back to stock based ROM, my cell signal shows full bars as well as the data mostly in 4G mode. Not sure it this is an artifact of the status bar indicator icon or possible firmware related? When I had my Dinc2 and was using ICS based ROM's, I had noticed improvements when flashing the ICS firmware.Wondered if this was the same for the DInc4g LTE?

that's kind of miss leading, if you check the numbers on your signal on both roms they are about the same. the number of bars is just different, as for the 3g and 4g stuff i'm not sure, never checked the numbers
I've seen the same thing, not looking at bars, but dbm

My lower values I posted are on LTE. The lower the - dBm / dB value the better or closer you are to the Tower. As my signal gets worse 1-2 bar graph, I'm at -118 to -120 dBm on 4G. When my phone switches to 3G/EVDO/1x the signal strength is only showing dB value.
My 4G doesn't work at all on CM10.1. Just a hint on how to avoid this... Never mess with radio settings or try updating roaming capabilities. CyangenMod will break your 4G. There are problems with CyangenMod and device radios. There needs to be a way to reprogram the Radio Bands. Someone please try and figure something out. I have figured out a way on how to manipulate the radio to connect to 4G. But it is kinda complicated. You have have to switch the CDMA Subscription from RUIM/SIM to NV, then go to the dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#* then go into Phone Information, then go to "Set preferred network type:" and make sure that it says: "LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)" then restart your phone. There are a couple downsides to this.
1) Your calling won't work.
2) Your messaging won't work.

The only good thing about this is faster internet than 3G. About 1 MBps. (Roughly)
That is one thing I discovered while trying to repair my 4G. Good luck and if you figure it out, there is a forum that is called 4G Not Working that needs a solution to this specific problem. Please share it.

Yeah I know not to talk to you because you're kinda a jerk. I just talked to Verizon and got it sorted out with them. I now have working 4G. Asking for more information so he might be able to identify your problem is a huge jerk move. Now I understand....
Don't try to learn something if you can't take constructive criticism. It's natural to be frustrated when you're very experienced with something and someone asks for help with few details. Dumb questions get dumb answers.

Interesting discovery with LTE icon

I currently have a D801 Claro PR variant (same as wind mobile, and for the most part, the Canadian D803's). Thing is, I usually swap roms around on a weekly basis, always using Wootever's now discontinued kernel (as kernels for this device are somewhat limited). My only complaint with all the roms I flashed is that I never got the LTE icon, even when on LTE (I got the 4G icon). I even tried editing the build prop. But alas, the 4G icon was always, apparently decided to stay. Well, yesterday I decided to try Furnace kernel, as it supported my device, and I wanted to try something new. To my surprise, the 4GLTE icon popped up (as well as all the corresponding icons for my device)! I re flashed Wootever's kernel back just to make sure it wasn't luck, and lo and behold, the evil 4G was there, rearing his ugly face, and the LTE icon nowhere to be found.
I really don't know if one thing has to do with another, but I decided to post my findings, as I know that there are many like me that are stuck with the 4G icon while on LTE, and this could prove to be useful to them.

Nope, this is mostly cosmetical.
Now, I DID see some signal improvement and more constant speeds with the new G update...
Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk
My Sprint variant did this when I mucked with the bands trying to get Spark in Atlanta. When I enabled all three bands (forgot how...search) the the icons changed. I hated it because the alternate icon took up too much space.
And no, I never saw a speed difference. Matter of fact, enabling the bands had some type of negative effect, but I can not remember what it was. I never saw the new fangled Spark icon, which I guess will be enabled after the much ballyhooed update hits.

Better AT&T reception on a T-mobile handset?

So like allot of people in here, I sold off my AT&T S5 and scooped up a T-MO S5 for the obvious reasons. What i've noticed is that i get insanely awesome reception everywhere i go with this t-mo phone. At work i would pull down about 3-4 bars of LTE on my ATT S5 and now i get full LTE all day long without the thing fluctuating once. Not a huge difference but still nice to see. This also goes for just about everywhere i go, full bars galore. Anyone else noticing this? Either way it's just another perk along with root and my custom ROM!!:victory:

Bars means nothing. Always check and compare using the dbm menu.:good:
The T-Mobile S5 will show five bars for a -99dbm signal. That in reality should be about 2-3 bars.

It does. It's a fact. When I have a -99dbm signal, my phone shows 5 bars. Then 4 bars with anything below -110dbm. I am assuming T-Mobile did it this way because their LTE is extremely weak, and they want you to think you have a good signal, when you really don't.

dbm alone when talking about LTE is a somewhat artificial number without context . RSSI and RSRP will indicate something more meaningful to the signal quality. -99dbm RSRP would be closer to -79 dbm RSSI and is a strong signal .
I am currently at -95dbm RSRP and am pulling phenomenal results.

Don't install the new modem. It causes a problem for ATT users.

I'll wait until the new modem is thoroughly tested with AT&T. It can't be that bad.

Thanks for the heads up, I am on TMO not ATT , but I think I'll still hold off until I see more results. Seems a lot of ppl are having lower download speeds.

I wonder if this new slow download modem issue on G900T tmobile devices on ATT networks has anything to do with ATT lighting band 29 LTE on 700 now?

Download speeds went from 25+Mps to 1.5Mps.
Wow. I'm glad I still have my original modem. I wonder why they would do that. Unless they don't want people taking their devices over to AT&T?

We really don't know if this is really happening to everyone or it's an isolated case...so far it's only been the same couple people reporting it.

I reflashed the ANCH stock Rom and rerooted and am back on the ANCH modem. Got my speeds back up
This is not an isolated case. There are problems with the new Modem. Go to the Development section. Beanstown has a new thread with all the Modems, firmware, and stock roms.. Try different modems, many times they function differently by location.
