[Q] Contacts Force Close [process com.motorola.contacts] - Motorola Photon 4G

Hi, I have a Motorla Photon 4G and I'm with Sprint if this is needed, but I tried to call someone yesterday and noticed it didn't want to and force closed. I noticed it after I was deleting a bunch of old pictures on my phone and had some applications update, and installed a new one too. It's not rooted, and I don't mess with the files internally, so what should I do? I noticed some other threads had something to do with Yahoo contacts or something like that, but I don't meddle with Yahoo at all on my phone, or on the computer.
My brother and sister both have the same phone too, and they don't get this problem.
Thanks.

Back up all data and try a factory reset.

Same problem here Dean.
Let me know if you find a solution.

The new update from the Hotmail app to Outlook did the same to me. Once I uninstalled Hotmail, my contacts came back.

Thanks for saving me from factory reset

Gmail Sync Problems

Hi,
I'm having problems syncing my contacts from my phone to my Gmail account. Basically, they're syncing the wrong way!
If I put a new number in my phone then sync to Gmail the number is deleted as it isn't already in my Gmail contacts list.
Surely this is the wrong way around? Surely it should add the new number to my Gmail account? After all, the phone is the logical place to create new contacts.
So, what am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?
If it matters I'm running Vodafone branded firmware: Baseband 1.2.28, Build R2BA024.
Thanks.

could it be you're editing your contacts on gmail as well? then again.. it couldn't be because it's 2 different contacts right?
how bout, if you create an account in google contacts? does it get synced with your fone and show up there?
Yeah if I add a contact to Gmail it syncs to my phone fine. Just not the other way around.
*confused*

i also have a question to this case. obviously (and i think this is also the reason why this thread was opened) gmail sync only syncs the contacts from your gmail-account to the phone...actually it would be more valuable if i could transfer the contacts from my phone to my gmail-account, as it would also be a kind of backup if something happens to my device.
it is also a thing of daily routine, if i receive a new number or mailadress, i do save it in my phone. because of the only sync-direction gmail->phone, i have to sit in front of my pc in the evening and add the new contact details to my gmail-account...? wouldn't it be easier if i could start a transfer from my phone TO gmail?!?!

My thoughts exactly! Far more logical that way around.
The weird thing is, it used to work that way for me. Now it doesn't. As far as I'm aware I haven't changed any settings on either my phone or my gmail account. Very strange!
Tried clearing the cache btw and that hasn't solved the problem.

so you already did that with your X10? you transferred the contacts of your phone to gmail?
of course it would be perfect, if i could chose which side should synchronize with the other...
e.g. if i need to reset my phone, then i'd love to get my contacts back from gmail!
hope, that somebody can help us here!

Yeah. As far as I'm aware it used to sync in both directions. When I first got my phone I ran a manual sync and all my contacts appeared on my phone. Then if I added one to my phone, or changed one, and ran another sync it would update my gmail contacts with the new/changed one.
Now it doesn't. Strange!
The only thing I can think it would be is that I changed the last part of my address from googlemail.com to gmail.com.
I wonder if that might have something to do with it?

hey dont worry for that part as it syncs all contacts in a very clever way, for eg i had flashed my phone several times and didnt kept backup of my contacts(apart from one on gmail) and when i was done with flashing i just use to sync them again with gmail and voila..ph got updated according to copy of gmail contacts...so it doesnt deleates the contacts on gmail...

hm, so it should normally align both states maybe? is the sync-function really checking the contacts of the phone and those in gmail an adds only the contacts on that side, where they are missing?
well, i have tried the sync once and it deleted all the new contacts on my phone! there was only a transfer of my gmail-contacts to my X10...phone book was ignored and even overwritten!
any hints what sunjin an i do wrong?

It used to sync both ways for me but now it doesn't. This is very, VERY annoying as I frequently add new contacts to my phone but I now have to remember to go add them to Gmail too or they get deleted next time I sync. Illogical if you ask me.
Can anyone with a different phone/version of Android confirm if this happens to you also?

[Q] Facebook Sync

Alright, in the past few days, I have been running into the same issue. An issue I have never had before.
When I try to sync my Facebook Contacts it is able to sync my calendar, but after trying to sync my contacts it says:
"Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly."
This only happens with MY account. I put in my sister's and dad's accounts, and they synced up perfectly.
I have never had this issue before.
I have tried EVERYTHING in the book to solve it.
This problem occurs on any ROM I use (Froyo and Eclair, but I am currently on Macnut). I have ODINed to stock, and the problem is still there, even on bone stock.
I tried going onto my account and uninstalling the Samsung Mobile application and the Facebook for Android Application, ODINed to stock, tried logging in/syncing but I still received the "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will
be back shortly."
I tried deactivating my account and reactivating, changing my password, my email - still no change.
When I go to my contacts, the activities feed of my Facebook shows up perfectly, with pictures an all.
This thing is stumping me big time. My FB contacts are vital to me, and it's bothering the **** out of me.
Anyone have words of enlightenment?
Come on help me out here guys.

Lemme get this straight, you're using the built in facebook contacts thing right? From contacts > updates which will prompt you to log in?
If its not working try deleting your account off of it and putting it back in
Of course could be a sever issue as well

This post is not about freezing it's about the Error which I have noticed a lot of people are experiencing. Some say it's due to Google + App, I have NEVER downloaded this app and I'm experiencing this issue. Need fixes that Don't involve losing my contacts.

u revived a rllly old topic...
anyway, if u synced ur contacts with Google, there is no worry, since it backups them, so u can do those fixes and sync them back later...

I can't my contacts won't do anything. I did export them to my SD card tho, but still trying to find a fix with out the reset.
I'm also posting on Motorola Forums.
and a few other places I mean this issue seams to be a random one but still affecting a lot of people. be nice to find a fix.
Okay I got a post from another person who went thru the same issue. It seam when Hotmail wento Outllok.com it messed up something. Here is a copy of his post
"I may be on to something here. I recently installed the MS Outlook app. That's when my contacts stopped working. I uninstalled both my Hotmail and Outlook apparently and restarted the phone. The contacts still wouldn't work. For some reason, I decided to reinstall the new Outlook app. After I did that, I was able to access my contacts again!"
I did uninstall both my hotmail app and outlook.com app, Restarted (pulling battery) then it worked. I reinstalled Outlook.com and it still working. So that is how my issue got fixed. hope it helps others out.

[Q] Hidden hotmail account that can not be deleted

Hey guys,
My wife has a bell atrix and for some reason there is a hidden "hotmail" account that I can not delete. I can see the account in mail/message settings but it does not show up in account settings, therefore i can not delete nor edit it. So in the end I had to make a new account as "hotmail1" but now she receives emails twice.
Has anyone ever experience this before and know how to delete hidden account?
btw. she is running the latest OTA update with launcher pro and no custom rom.

go into manage applications and clear all data from any app involving your hotmail accounts. you might have to set all of them back up but it should remove the hidden account.
cleared all data and uninstalled apps that require email addresses but the hidden account is still there.
Happened to me before. a hotmail account.
Even came across a thread about it in the official motorola forums. The only solution I found was to format my Atrix!
your kidding me....a reformat? I really want to avoid doing that...
i've searched the motorola forums but did not find any such thread. Do you remember the link and/or search criticia? It would be appreciated!
update: nvm, I found the post. It is from someone who has a moto droid with the same problem. Does anyone have any possible solution to this problem without resorting to formatting?

I know it sucks, been there.
If it's the same problem you're having, this is the post and how Motorola's rep suggested doing a hard reset:

Thanks for the help. I will try a factory reset.
fyi....this is the original post at moto forums from someone with a driod that has the exact same problem as me.

My Droid X has gone thru at least 2 updates since I got it as far as I can
remember. All normal updates OTA with no rooting, etc. Currently on 2.3.3
Android at System 4.5.596 MB810.Version.en.US
Recently I went looking to change some parameters on one of my email
accounts but I discovered something interesting. Not sure how long it has
been there.
When I click on the messaging icon, I see a Universal Inbox, text, and 5
email accounts as expected. If I click on "Edit Universal Inbox", it
shows 6 check boxs of 5 email and 1 text account. So far everthing is
normal.
But if I click on "Manage Accounts", I see only 4 email accounts + 2 Google
accounts. So where is my 5th email account which I use as my primary and
how do I modify my missing email account?. It I try to add it in, it
complains it is a duplicate so something knows it is there but it does not
show under the "My accounts" page.
So how do I make visible, a hidden email account so I can modify it? I
tried wiping the cache but saw no changes as it is still missing. I would
appreciate some recommendations on what to try now before I go for the
factory reset. Thanks. Andy

Not syncing calendar...

I just got the 4g yesterday and rooted it. Nothing beyond that though. The phone is not syncing my calendar for some reason. I've tried uninstalling the entire calendar (backed up with titan, and restored now) to try and install the cyanogen calendar with no success. I installed buisness calendar free and it doesn't even see the calendars.
In the sync settings under all my google accounts the icon is red and it says:
'Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly.'
It's said this since last night so there has to be something wrong with the phone.
I tried wiping cache/davik and nothing. Still fails.
Any assistance would be much appreciated,
thanks,
Justin
In case its relevant, I did this to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1758682

I don't think it is because you rooted your phone, I have a galaxy S3 that is not rooted and my syncing stopped working as well. I think it might be a bigger issue with google.

I am not rooted and I have this problem too. But, its with the Facebook calender only. The others sync fine.
Yeah, I dont think it has to do with root either, but I'm pretty sure my other phone is syncing just fine. I was just thinking maybe I missed a setting somewhere or there was some bug that people knew about and possibly how to fix. Just really annoying since I use it for work.
**edit**
Actually, forgot about this... my calendar app actually stops working if I try to view calendars to select which ones to sync. Also business calendar doesn't even recognize that I have calendar's (maybe cause the sync problem noted in OP).
found out it is my phone, tested at a verizon store and google calendar sync works on the demo phone as well as the galaxy s3 there...
