Anyone else buy the phone outright with an existing prepaid plan? If so, did your old sim card work right away? It didn't for me.
The clerk at the T-mobile store inputted my phone number into their computers but then proceed to place my old sim into the HTC One and I was on my way. When I got back to work, I realize that my phone still isn't detecting any network. Did the clerk screw up and I was supposed to use the new sim? Or was I supposed to ask him to sim unlock my phone?
Thanks.

Hmm thats strange, if its the old sim in your phone then you should have it already activated and it should work. I don't think it matters if they put your old sim in as long as it fits and is active. Why would you have to sim unlock your phone, was the old sim not Tmobile? I would call 611 and have them check, it could be just be an activation issue, which still sounds pretty weird

My phone works perfectly fine and I am currently on the $30 100min unlimited text & 5gb data. I simply took the micro sim out of my old phone and put it into the HTC One, but I came from a HTC One S if that makes any difference. Oh and I'm running the 64gb Dev Edition
What phone did you have prior? Was it not a smartphone?

I have this plan. All I did was put my old SIM in. Right from my other phone. It took a minute and then the data kicked in. Been working perfect. I had to give my prepaid # my $ and was on my merry way. Again zero issues.

was this a micro sim card that was put in your phone? Actually, your phone is suppose to automatically update to the new sim. If not, then please give the prepaid department a call and they will ask you for the sim card number they put in your phone and activate it with your existing prepaid plan.
Thanks for the replies. I switched my sim card back to my old phone for the rest of the afternoon. I tried again on the One when I got home and it worked this time. Kind of weird, but whatever. Been playing with my phone since I got home and loving it!
Do you mind letting us know how did you get the T-mobile HTC One on a prepaid plan? I called up the sales dep. and they said this phone was not available for prepaid customers yet!

I bought it at a local T-Mobile store. They didn't have a problem with it.
Tmobile makes u purchase either a postpaid or prepaid meaning you must attach new service to get to purchase outright cost .Meaning if u already have a prepaid SIM and owe nothing till next month In order to get any tmo Device outright you have to pay another months bill with the purchase of the new phone .
I tried to buy the I5 with using one of my two existing lines, they said an error came back saying I had to make a bill payment to get it for 579$ ,which means essentialy even tho bill wasn't due I had to pay 70$ again. Now I'm paid up till June ,same with the HTC one I got today had to pay for another months prepaid to get it for 579

Yes it is available for prepaid I got a HTC one and I5 on my existing prepaid lines and paid the 579 but u must pay another months bill if u already have prepaid because they set it up that way u can't no longer just walk in and buy a phone outright for the Cheaper outright price without paying some type of bill payment wether u have a line or need one .Kinda tricky but that's the deal
So ya you can get it for 579 on prepaid

Hey folks. I bought my mopho used off ebay didn't come with a sim card looking to buy one sprint want 35bucks seen some on the net around 10-20 bucks. Was wondering if anyone could tell me the name/model/type of sim card i need. Sprint just told me a price no specs thanks guys
edit: called sprint international they are sending me the sim card woohoo!
can delete this topic if you want because it is solved ill post all the specs on it when it gets here so anyone with this issue can refer to in accessories or general i guess

Sprint SIM card is useless unless you have a corporate rate for international roaming, or you really like being bent over a table by a TelCo and their international roaming prices. Best thing to do is to buy a cheap pre paid SIM card in whatever country you arrive in, they typically sell them in airports - saw some in a vending machine in Canada once.
If you never leave the US, its absolutely useless to have in the phone - took mine out when I first got the phone.
Hi I just got HTC DNA, I added a line to my family account and I have the old HTC Incredible 2 with unlimited data plan. and I wanna switch it to that account . I tried to do it online but it won't let me. Then I called costumer support . They said that the Sim card in my new HTC DNA is pre registered with a number and can't be switch to your old one. And i need to purchase a new 4G simcard that is un-activated. Is there anyway. that we can by pass this? But when I did it to my other 3G phones it was ok I switched both HTC Incredible 2 and iPhone 4s before without a problem and both have sim card on it. Help?
Just head to Verizon and they can do it. Does not cost money..

You can find at Verizon Amazon.
Customer care are idiots. I fix their mistakes every day. Any corporate Verizon store will give you a sim card and move the phone to the other line for free. If you can't make it into a corporate store do an esn change on the new line (use a basic phone or 13800000400) and it will free up the device/sim to be activated on your line. Theoretically, if you deactivate the sim on the new line it should be able to be used on your line the next day. VZW recently enabled reusing sim cards which makes it a lot easier moving phones, however, it doesn't reset the sim until the next day. For the most part this works, however, occasionally it will fail and you will need a new sim. Verizon 3G phones register on the network with an ESN and the sim is only used for global which is why you could do it before.

Could you elaborate on this? I am getting the DNA for its discounted price but keeping unlimited on my line. When I receive the phone I plan on activating it on the feature phone line I used to upgrade first and then moving it to my line, but since I'm coming from a thunderbolt I'll have to cut the sim/get a new one and it would be a lot easier to just use the sim that came with the phone (which is registered with the feature phone) and reset it for my number. Do I just dial 13800000400 to do this?

Hi guys I got a Galaxy SII i777 from at&t and still got like 7 months left in contract.
Here's the deal. I'm tired of their crap, and I'm about to cancel the contract, pay the penalty, and go with another company.
Already checked with MetroPCS, they wouldn't take my phone. They want me to get their phone.
And then I went to Boost Mobile, the guy said he can't do with Boost but he's able to hook it up with Net10 which is $50 a month unlimited talk & text with 1.5gb data plan. Which is not too bad at all.
Then I thought about Straight Talk. I know they got a $45 plan which is unlimited everything (actually I really don't need unlimited because I know how much I use it) anyways the question is if I cancel the contract, will I be able to switch to Straight Talk? I haven't done anything to the phone. No root no unlock. And I have no idea about it. I will certainly appreciate any help. Thanks guys.
Yes you can. No need to unlock your phone as long as you have At&t SIM when you sign up for Straight Talk.

I appreciate your quick reply. So hopefully tomorrow I'm going to cancel the contract and keep the SIM card as you mentioned, and I think that the Straight Talk got a better deal. But shouldn't I have to put their SIM cards in?
Buy a SIM card online at ST.com , when you receive it activate the SIM card online or call them. You can have a new phone number or have your current one transferred. You will have to create a new APN, the info you need comes with the SIM card. I've set up my wife and daughter on ST with no problems. I paid the fee to get out of the contract early and still saving money after a few months.
Make sure you order the SIM to us with AT&T.

You are correct, he can only get a t-mobile SIM card from the straight talk and net10 websites. Try looking on eBay for any att SIM cards to use with net 10 or straight talk. On eBay the SIM cards range from 14 to 90+ bucks. If you plan to port or transfer your number, don't cancel your plan or you won't be able to port your number over. There is a pretty big thread already about straight talk.

Damn.. I decided to pay another month and then cancel it.. Between now and then, I wanna figure out this SIM card thing. I went on Ebay, they are insane. $90 for a SIM card? Get out of here..
Anyways, I was looking at StraightTalk.com, they have this T-Mobile SIM card and right down below, it says this if anybody noticed:
Code:
Straight talk SIM Card will only work with an AT&T or T-mobile compatible or unlocked GSM phone. To activate your service, you will need a Straight Talk Unlimited 30-day Service Plan Card for activation. Some data services may not be available with all wireless devices. Blackberrys and branded TracFone, SafeLink, NET10 or Straight Talk phones will not work with this program. In order for your phone‘s data services to work, you must update your APN data settings, also called the Access Point Name. SIM Card and Service Plan are not refundable.
So I was wondering maybe I can get T-Mobile SIM card and hook it up with mine? Any ideas?

I'm kinda mad I didn't get it now... This past weekend I was at target and they had byop sim packet for net10 on clearance for 5 bucks. How much data do you use On ST? Net 10 Is owned by the same company as straight talk. I have ST and use less than 2 gb a month and I rarely get throttled. I usually use between 15 mb a day On weekends, and between 75 Mb a day On weekdays.

ebay has the att net10 sim cards for $1. You'll end up paying $5 more a month using it through net10, but its not a bad deal. at least net10 clearly states that you get 1.5 gigs a month before being shut off. If you do go the net10 route, make sure it says somewhere on the page that its an att net10 talk sim card.
It's amazing that straight talk Sims are going for an outrageous amount compared to net 10 Sims. I wonder when straight talk will go down the 1.5 GB track as well

To anyone following this thread, Net10 data is UNLIMITED. You get throttled, not cut off, after you reach the max.

i assume your going to run the 30$ - 100min, unlimited txt, unlimited data (up to 5g) plan and use a VOIP service like grooveIP to tunnel through for phone service?
i've heard some widely varying stories about that. some say it works fine some say theres alot of lag and quality is quite poor. I'm not sure but i use my stuff for work so i cant take that chance.

The SIM code is different from the activation code. I'm starting to think the box didn't come with an activation code, because they expect the rep to activate it to their "plan" when you get it. Going to go to the store later today.

They didn't SIM unlock it, but does it matter for now, since I'm going to use it on T-Mo? Apologies if that ends up being a stupid question. I've always been on CDMA, so new to dealing with SIM's
Update: I didn't know the $30 prepaid plan was only available online, this is why you cannot activate it in the store. I just purchased the activation kit for $10 and I'm going to activate it online when it comes.

Newbie to smartphones needs some help.
I have an old Motorola flip phone that is using Verizon unlimited phone and text (about $34/mo total) and it is ready to die. It doesn’t have a sim card slot. I purchased the Moto E XT 1528PP from Best Buy (has not been turned on yet) and need some help to transfer my existing plan to the new phone without having to sign up for the pre-paid 6 month plan. I just want to have the ability to talk and text and be able to use the wireless capabilities WITHOUT a data plan, i.e., connect wirelessly to a hotspot or wireless modem. Can someone offer advice on the best way to do this? Do I need to buy some sort of postpaid micro sim card or do I need to do something else?
Thank you in advance for your help.
I guess your old phone is a CDMA one, that's why it doesn't have a SIM Card. I don't think there's a way to transfer the plan so I would contact Version and ask them what should you do.

VZ has a clear policy that states the phone needs to be on prepaid for 6 months before it can be moved to postpaid. If this were another carrier, say T-Mobile, you could switch phones every hour with none of this trouble.

Maybe the loyalty department would, but regular service reps tend to be strict about policies. Also his plan is very old and may automatically change when he activates the phone for his line.

I finally wound up calling Verizon and to my surprise they changed the Moto E from prepaid to postpaid and transferred my existing phone number and existing plan (unlimited talk/text) to it with no changes to my billing. I will use the wifi features so as to avoid data charges. This seems to have worked for me. Let me know your thoughts and if you think this was a good outcome.
