i have a ATT phone which is unlocked and on other network. i was wondering if ATT phones have to be on ATT if they were to receive OTA updates?
reason i ask is i have a ATT HTC one X+, and it hasnt received notification for any update, where as there as a update released few days back.
if some one can shed some light on this, i'll really appreciate.
same might be true for other phones which are carrier unlocked and not on their origional carrier.
an OTA update would have to come from at&t. You could try downloading the update from HTC and see if it will install but I have no clue if that would relock the phone.

ota or installing fresh RUU from HTC wont relock.
but what i was trying to ask is that if i am using say ATT HTC ONE X+ ( or any other ATT network unlocked phone) on tmobile, will we get OTAs?
No you will not get an ota update from Att while on T-Mobiles network.

Hey all,
So I'm using the DNA on AT&T and it works great. My question is, how do I go about getting the new software update that's being pushed out to other users while I'm on AT&T? For some reason, my DNA won't pick up the OTA on AT&T, and even sticking an old, deactivating Verizon SIM in it won't work either. I've also tried just using no SIM on wifi and checking for the update but still nothing. Any way I can download the RUU or something? Thanks!
how to unlock network AT&T
I think you can just download the update. Zip on the server and then flash it to your phone and you will have the update I know people over seas are probably going to do it that way since they can't get the ota in another country where there is no service.

Wouldn't flashing a zip require root? Or are you taking about an RUU? I'm not rooted and don't plan to be, just want the ota.

I'm new to Android.. coming from iPhone and WP7/8.
I love the HTC one and paid cash for this phone. I hate being controlled by the carrier when it comes to updates.... I know now.. that next time I will buy a unlocked/developer version if available.
My question is this. Being that it is an AT&T version, can i unlock the boot loader (assuming they haven't stopped this yet) and enable receiving my software updates directly from HTC? Just like the Dev phones.
I'm not so interested in "rooting" and loading custom Rom's at this point.. i just want to make sure i get the updates ASAP.. I don't want to wait on AT&T. (I wouldn't mind deleting some of the AT&T crap off the phone though)
I have searched Google and this forum and can not find an answer that is in such simple terms that i understand it lol ... sorry if this is a stupid question.
No.

Why would you buy an att device to use on tmo anyways?

You can unlock the bootloader, you'll need the carrier's help to SIM unlock. Check out the tutorial in the development section.
Unlocking your bootloader has nothing to do with when your phone gets updated.

Also, I don't believe that T-Mobile 4G HSPA or 4G LTE will work on the AT&T version. (But I wonder if the T-Mobile version of the phone will work on AT&T's network?)
If you want to run on T-Mobile US, you need the T-Mobile US version of the phone.
Hey guys,
So I'm selling my Rezound to a T-Mobile user (my sister) and I want to get it ready for her to use. Currently, I have the 4.03.605.2 710RD software loaded on it, which I know makes it global capable. At this point, would I just need to flash a GSM and have her put in her T-Mobile SIM card? Or do I need to update to the new OTA software first? If so, is there an RUU for it?
Thanks for the help.

I don't think thats such a good idea especially if she uses the internet a lot because GSM users only get EDGE which is almost the slowest data connection.
I'm looking to S-Off my wife's DNA so I need to upgrade from 2.04 to 2.06. But were using her phone on Net10 Gsm (ATT).
So my question is does the 2.06 firmware upgrade lock down or restrict the gsm network options at all?
I know the DNA was the first and only phone to come from Verizon completely gsm unlocked and other phones im thinking the S3 and others came with cellular unlocked but data locked so u couldnt do what we did and run from verizon with their phone. So if 2.06 restricts gsm access were out of a phone and my wife might even kill me .
Cmon somebodys gotta know if they were able to switch their DNA to a gsm network after taking the 2.06 update?

no lockdown at all for gsm users
Is there anyone using the factory unlocked version of the Max on AT&T and getting LTE ? If so how does the updates work if it's factory unlocked. Sorry im new to using unlocked versions.
Yes ,works fine on ATT,Your updates come from HTC,not ATT.in order to get updates youll need to have original software/recovery phone came with.
Thank you for all the help. I guess I was just curious if I would still get LTE and to be honest I loved the phone on Verizon that's why I went ahead and ordered it factory unlocked
