Customizing inner hardware - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

So, because of this sh*it,
my Prime is unusable. It just sits there. I wondered, if I could customize its hardware. Replace its mainboard and etc. So that I can reuse it and use the OS that I want without dealing ASUS' non-sense. Because it is unlocked it is out of warranty. And I do not want to spend 250 eur/usd (I read somewhere that they chage so much for a new mainboard) and again have the same problems.
I just wonder, if it is possible to find fitting mainboards, hdd's and/or cpu's? Probably they are all customized for the product, but may be there is a way?
thanks

You can find mainboards online but I doubt you'll be able to solder a Tegra 3 CPU.
Also, the Prime doesn't have a HDD. It has NAND flash.

no. you can only replace the motherboard with a working one

When you say "unusable" do you mean it won't turn on? It turns on but won't boot? Or just poor performance? If it's that latter then root and/or unlock and either do a custom ROM or do the stock ROM tweaks in the stock ROM performance thread. I can tell you the stock ROM tweaks work wonders. Right now I'm updating about 10 apps and surfing the net with no lag what-so-ever.

I don't know what I missed, since I had jb bootloader already, I couldn't install NVflash and without NVflash I cannot overcome this problem.
And, I didn't understand what you meant with "working" since I wanted to replace the older mainboard with a working one. Did you mean with a board that only works for that case?
thx

I mean that your motherboard is useless. You can replace it with a working one. And only one kind oа motherboard is suitable - the exact one that you have

Just solder in a Core i7 Extreme Edition, then solder in 16gb of RAM, solder in a 256gb msata SSD and you'll basically have yourself a new Asus Transformer Book running full Windows 8 (though you'll have to solder in Windows 8 too). One thing's for sure, you'll have some 1337 soldering skillz after all that. I'd solder in some G's too (4 to be exact) but that's just me (some people don't like the extra bill).

Ill give you Eur 100 for your device

hd2 n00b questions

I am purchasing an hd2 that has a non-responsive touch screen (not cracked/broken) from someone off of craigslist. I'm willing to take a chance and hope i'm lucky enough that it's not a complete hardware issue 'cause I obviously won't have any warranty.
My question(s) are:
Can you navigate through the phone and within the apps itself using only the physical buttons?
If I try to replace a digitizer with the ones on ebay for 30-40, do these need soldering? Has anyone had any success trying these? I'm aware that may not completely resolve the issue.
Will t-mobile (my carrier) provide me with an unlock code?
If I flash it with android do all the features of the phone work? WiFi, sound, camera, etc?

As Samsamuel said no there is no navigation buttons on the HD2, you have to use the touch screen.

I have not checked out the digitizers you refered to on Ebay but I would suggest you buy a LCD digitizer assembly already together tbat requires no soldering. This will allow one much easier instalation and replace both major parts that have to work to solve your problem. So you should be assured you will fix the problem.

Yes if you are currently a T-Mobile costumer they will must likely give you the unlock code, but you have to contact them.

Yes on just about all NAND Andriod ROMs for the HD2 have everything functioning with only very minor things being buggy.

i find this kind of odd. most electronics used to be configured where if you couldn't access the primary input there was always a secondary option...kind of like how if your mouse wasnt working, you can still do everything with a keyboard. granted, this isn't in the same category but engineering has definitely fallen off in the way of profits as opposed to proper functionality these days.
i came across this piece of software called 'mymobilizer' which lets you control and see the device and its screen from a computer. i installed but i can't connect because it requires an authentication on the device (press ok to allow or cancel to deny) and i was hoping the home, windows, or call key would act as an enter but unfortunately no. that would have at least given me some kind of flexibility to at least play around with it in it's current state and i was so close yet so far...
are there any other softwares just like this?

^ here's an example of what i'm referring to.
i dont think (or hope) that it needs a new lens since it looks to be in good shape and the t-mobile US HD2s digitizers don't require soldering from what i've been reading so is it a matter of simply unplugging it from the ribbon or what have you and inserting/plugging the replacement back in?
are there any good guides that focus just on the screen/digitizer disassembly and replacement? I saw that one video on youtube but it's not really a great step by step tutorial.

i currently only have a 1gb sd card on me, is it possible to install android from a card with that little capacity? i was reading one where the minimum requirement was 4gb.
If you buy the one on craiglist I wouldn't worry about SD card size as with a dead screen you won't be doing much with it except for use as door wedge perhaps.
dead screens are normally a hardware issue stripping the HD2 is not the simplest plus eBay screen parts are cheap poor quality junk.
If buyining a used HD2 you need to buy a good one & preferably a revision moel with the yellow reset button.

Yeah I agree have traded functionality for profits to a certain extent. And I agree not having any kind of control with any external buttons is a drag, bit it is a all touch screen device. The link you posted shows a LCD and digitizer wich is what I was talking about and yes this kind is the solderless kind that just plugs into the mainboard. I personally have not done it but I have read about people that have and watch a video or two.
As far as a spacific video to watch I really don't have one to suggest but seach YouTube really good you should find something that will help you out.
Now on the SD card I would get atleast a 2GB to 4GB.
The link is just the digitizer.

If you could find a way to address partitioning and such, then that'd work perfectly.
Regarding the other thread about booting a kernel whilst inside the Xperia U system, could we port things suck as LK Bootloader?
I recall it was recently ported to the Xperia T.
About boot loader its completely unprotected which means it could be changed without any problems.
Also it looks there's no RAM protection or its very low.
Any low level hacking should be easy but hard because lack of sources.

Thanks again for your help
SGS2 service manuals attached (with thanks to TheUnderling). Rest is up to you.
thanks for your reply. All the info that you have read are from service manual but I can't go ahead if not have confirm of part description. In service manual have only part number or I'm wrog?
thanks again
You have admitted that changing individual components is not easy (damage to two other parts while replacing one) the fact of the matter is that all the components on that board are micro sized and surface mounted....aka...really difficult to successfully replace....you could end up paying a small fortune to get that board working again.....
Why not just "cut your losses" and buy the entire board from somewhere like ebay for what amounts to small pocket change.
But be advised....there are 3 versions of this module available. ...rev 2.2, rev 2.3 and rev 2.4
You have to match the module in your phone or it STILL won't work...

thanks for your reply.
I have not damaged have lost because I have removed them for having a better management but me they are falled to earth and not them meeting
It's very difficult find to a good price the low price that I've found is 100€. rev are for all country? I can change with a motherboard of other country without problem? if someone can help with a good price or with components I will be very happy. Thanks keithross39!
The "rev" version is dependent on how old the phone is.....it's not country specific as the voltage available at the charger output is USB standard. ....
Take a look at this thread. ....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265091
it'll show you where to find the right version number.
When I replaced the board, I got my replacement from ebay for £6 gbp (7-8 €?) So it's really not that expensive to do......
Edit....it's the USB charger board, NOT the motherboard that you need to search ebay for.....
Sent from my Rooted, De bloated Stock JB powered S2 via PhilZ kernel and Tapatalk 2....
I have already change (probably have a different version you're right) but with service manual I've check and the cap near the u504 have 5v so should be ok or not?
I need to replace the res and cap anyway... someone have info about this? Thank you very much all
You're welcome re: the service manuals, btw.
thanks but in service manual have only the number of part, no description about cap and res value. :crying:

[$200 REWARD] TF201 Brick after failed wipe from bootloader - APX Only

Unlocked tf201 with asus unlock tool. Rebooted, accidentally selected wipe data, left to run for over 1 day (plugged in), no changes. Had to force reboot but now suck on asus logo + unlocked device text in top left corner. APX only, and I have a microsd if that helps. $200 reward if solution found before September 17th 2013 +/- 1 day.
(Replaced motherboard, offer no longer valid)

Of try to find another one with a smashed screen or something you can get the motherboard out of.

Flumpster, I'm trying to find an answer, if I just get a MB that is labeled as ""NEW" from a source like ebay, is it ready to go when I swap it out? meaning software is already on it. Plug and Play so to speak? I have mine open and ready to purchase a MB, just do not want to get stuck with a surprise.
Thanks

Is there really no other way to fix it , than replacing the motherboard?! -.-
No way to flash or sth out of apx mode without previously having enabled nvflash?
You better pay €200 for replacing the motherboard, they did mine for free.

they really did yours for free , even though u unlocked it and therefore lost the guarantee??
I highly doubt they will do it for free....

[Q] hardware swap tf300 to tf201

I apologize if I'm posting this in a wrong place!
I have a bricked prime can only boot to APX and don't have any backed up blob. Only option seems to be replacing the board.
Does anybody confirm that a tf300 motherboard would work on prime?
Reason I want to put tf300 board simply the price it will do under $50 vs over $100
My research didn't yield a 100% compatibility but it seems they are pretty close.
Any input appreciated.
Just to update I went ahead and replaced the board with one from a tf300 machine and am running a stock rooted rom
