Since i've unlocked my bootloader, rooted my phone, and installed the 3.0.2 HD Xperia ROM my battery is draining quicker than normal when the phone is used, especially with wifi turned on (The wifi sleep policy is set to never).
Would switching kernel/ROM help, because my Neo V battery can't handle it?
I'm currently using the night elf kernel I believe, with the 3.0.2 HD Xperia ROM.
I'm fairly new to kernels, custom ROMs, rooting, etc.
Btw, if I swap kernel will this affect my current ROM (settings, apps, contacts)?

To answer last part: swapping kernels doesn't affect settings apps contacts... You can change without needing backup...

I've tried 2 kernels so far, the night elf kernel and the suave kernel. The problem is that I can't use WiFi with the suave kernel. The problem with my current setup(night elf kernel, 3.0.2 hd Xperia ROM) is that it drains my battery pretty quick.

Did you flash the suave kernel modules?
Sent from my Neo V using xda-developers app
Probably not, I will try and report back
EDIT: so i've tried suave, lupus and night elf. And now my wifi is broken with all three.
I can't get into recovery mode without rom mamanger/x-parts, but since i have no wifi i can't install it.
Is there a way to flash the suave wifi module with the flash tool?
Since I've tried 3 ics 4.0.4 kernels already i'm starting to think it's the ROM which drains my battery

may also be some application open in the background, try to freeze some app using titanium backup tool.

Why can't you go to recovery without xparts??
Sent from my Neo V using xda-developers app
Don't know, sometimes it boots normally when I reboot in recovery. I can't get my phone into recovery with the key combination. I've read that unlocking the bootloader can cause short battery life aswell. I've tried two ROMs so far with night elf and stock kernel and both give me a short battery life in comparison with the locked bootloader.

I don't think a different ROM would solve the battery issue as I already tried 2 ROMs, a JB based and a ICS based. When I flashed the original ROM I noticed that the battery life is still poor which leads me to either a broken battery or the unlocked bootloader. Any other suggestions? Anyone with a NEO V with a unlocked bootloader that has the same problem

dude your battery is broken
or miscalibrated as there is no battery backup issue after unlocking the bootloader
battery performance is rather improved with kernels like suave fusion lupus
After installing a new ROM use Battery Calibration from Google Play.
Install wakelock detector and look if any apps wakelocking CPU. You can olso download CPU Spy and look if Your phone is going to deep sleep state. When phone can't deep sleep and CPU is always working, battery drain is huge.
And third advice. If you are changing kernel it's good to flash again your ROM, sometimes can appear some problems with modules

Hi i upgraded to ICS, the one from android police works fine, but now i want to overclock so i flashed the overclocked kernel from the development area, installed fine but wifi is stuck on turning on. Ive tried numerous solutions that seemed to work for others. Any advice? im stuck flashing and recovering back since i cant find a solution. Any help would be appreciated!
You need to update your wifi driver to match the kernel you're using. Which kernel did you flash...

Yes, each one of the new ICS leak kernels has a different wifi module that needs to be loaded.
Just curious if i can use the same kernel from CyanogenMod 7.2.0 in CyanogenMod 9.1

Sent from my WT19i using xda app-developers app
I think it's better if you find a pc to use to flash it, 'cause you can't do it from it from the device itself if you don't know or don't have the recovery installed...
you can use but with minor edits to source
I have the recovero.... It seems informaciĆ³n will need to flash the kernel from pc..... Cause when i flashed Cm 9 without the kernel that came in it my phone got stuck in boot Screen....... Luckily i had a nandroid backup

i cant excatly guarantee for it to work because we need minor changes in source to fit in the different api so ... this just might be your case why not ask someone to upload the kernel for you

You definitely can't use the CM7.2 kernel for CM9.1. There are a lot of differences between the two since one is GB based and the other is ICS based.
boot.img
please can anyone tell me in detail , what is boot.img for??????
Boot.img contains all the files required for the device to boot such as kernel and ramdisk. Without it, the device can't start. Boot.img when flashed, will copy all files to the /boot partition.

That's partially true. For example, ICS ROMs for my HTC Desire HD used the 2.6 GB kernel as there was no official ICS kernel update from HTC. But the 2.6 ICS kernels required a lot of hacks, forward ports from various ICS kernel branches and backports from GB to work with ICS. For lack of a newer kernel version, the 2.6 kernel was used, but it was very different from the 2.6 GB kernel. It took months of hacks and hard work for devs to get everything working on the ICS ROMs with the 2.6 kernel. After Jelly Bean was released, it would have taken a ton of work to get the 2.6 kernel to work with it and not everything would have worked properly. Fortunately, Team Virtuous made a custom 3.0.xx kernel for the Desire HD all on their own, effectively making any kernel update from HTC's side useless, even if they did choose to release it. Another dev took this kernel and improved upon it like hell, and now we have perfectly working 4.2.1 Jelly Bean.
Of course, I might not be fully right about this because I'm no developer, but I've been following the ICS and JB threads for my phone for a long time and this is the way development was for it.
Hey everyone,
I tried to flash amin kernel when I was on scritch 4.1 kernel, slimbean ROM by x10forevers...the flashing process went well and the log screen said that it had been flashed successfully. But when the phone started up, the kernel logo that came up was still scritch kernel...when I checked the settings>about phone, it said there that the kernel was indeed aminkernel and when I checked using setcpu, it showed the same, that I had aminkernel and I have access to all the speeds and governors of aminkernel..
But the boot logo is still that of scritch kernel. Is there something wrong, or is this a harmless bug?
Its fine its the same kernel think they both work together on two seperate ones but have roughly the same outcome

which rom are you currently using? Scritch007's cm10 v9.3 with Kernel v20 seems to have the best battery performance for me. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012483
I'm on fera's jaf 2.3.7 rom. It cane with preinstalled kernel oveecloxked to 1.19Ghz but the thread said if u experience crashes and wlods( which I did) then flash different kernel . So I flashed v3.6 .

I've recently reverted back to stock 4.0.4. on my LWW, but ever since the battery indicator keeps showing 100%. This wouldn't be that horrible, I could live with this but the phone also keeps shuting off after a few minutes when not on the charger. I heard about these kinds of problems before, but after doing some research I still couldn't fix it.
Any ideas?
Install Cm10.1 then Run phone in LXP CM10.1 2 minutes.. Then Install
4.0.4

If you have cwm just wipe battery status..
Click Thanks if I help you
Just change the kernel
Try Lupus
What ICS kernel are you using? Try using LuPus or Radeon Kernel. Flashing kernel needs your bootloader to be unlock and your post shows that your bootloader is already unloked because you can't have that problem with Stock Kernel.
If your bootloader is not unlocked and you're at a Stock Firmware, try reinstalling the firmware using PCC or SUS.
