[Q] What Recovery Are You Using? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I've had five Android devices before I got the One, and I've never messed with the bootloader, recoveries, ROMs, kernals etc etc. I'm currently tooling around with my One X before I decide to take the plunge and root the One. I was wondering which recovery everyone is using for the One, and more importantly, why?

Right now I am using ClockworkMod Touch recovery with Rom Manager Premium. Really love how simple it is to make backups quickly and restore. I also really like twrp but for now I can staying with cwm.

I'm using twrp recovery. I've been using it since the HTC onex. Previous to that phone it was clockwork and arman, I think that's how you say it lol.

Recovery Options?

Ok so i just ordered my new HTC EVO 3D off ebay since my EVO is officially done, so my question is, after looking through the DEV section ive seen a lot of information on TWRP recovery and im wondering are there other options like with the EVO.
For instance the EVO had TWRP, Amon RA, CWM, ect..
The reason i ask is because ive had a pretty bad experience with TWRP so im reluctant to use it with this phone when i get it.
I used clockwork before I got twrp 2.0

I made a handful of code commits to TWRP at the beginning of the project.. The project was started as Amon RA announce he was "retiring" essentially from updating his recovery to work with EMMC devices.
The EVO 4G was an MTD device so Amon's recovery worked well. The EVO 3D is an EMMC device so Amon's recovery would not work.
Personally, I've had good success with CWM as it is consistent across devices and I haven't had issues with it across the handful of Android devices I've had.
Ultimately, the decision is up to you. I only use the basic features in the recovery, adb shell access from recovery mode, nandroid backup/restore and ability to process a .zip. These three basic features I use are essentially the same or at minimum very similar across the different recoveries.
Different custom recovery's will offer different features, different support and different UI/themes.
Hope that helps! Good luck!
I use clock work mod. Alot of others use Twrp but I rooted my phone with the old revolution method and I have never had any problems with cwm.
I can't get clockwork to stick for some reason. Haven't figured it out yet but twrp is awesome.
I haven't compressed the backups but it's a nice feature that saves space. And I read that 2.0 is crazy fast at backing up and restoring. Took me 1592 seconds to restore the recovery partition tonight. Long ass time.

ok thanks guy, when my phone gets here im going to probably go with TWRP as skeptical as i am about it....there is stock version that isnt touchscreen right that has proven not to do anything bad to the phone ?

If you want CWM to stick for good, install it from Rom Manager. I have never personally used TWRP and hear it's amazing but I doubt I'll ever switch after using CWM for years and have no reason to. /endrant

link to previous version non-touch

I tried twrp 2.0 didn't like it, it would quit in the middle of a wiping process and I would have to reboot into recovery again but it does have a touchscreen interface so some might find that useful. I used CWM like somebody else in this thread said it wouldn't stick I had the same problem. My favorite is twrp 1.1.1 never had any problems at all and the best part is you can flash multiple zips all at once. Oh! one more thing. I found out when using CWM wiping davlik cache would sometimes not work.
Twrp is my vote non touch version

What's so bad about the touch version?

It would randomly quit out then I would have to reboot. It could be good I guess if it weren't for that.

well for me and many others i tried the touch version on my original EVO and it pretty much broke my phone which is the main reason i got an EVO 3D now so that was the issue for me

Best Recovery?

The ones i know of are clockwork, something like TWRP? and another one called 4EXT or something like that. Can you guys give me input on which one is better and some of their functions?
I like 4ext because it uses touch screen and you can charge the battery while in recovery.

4ext is my favourite however having a gs2 I cannot have it :/ so second best for me is cwm!!

+1 for 4EXT as well. Not only is the touch interface real easy to navigate but it even has extra options like converting your partitions to the 4ext filesytem from 3ext (stock filesystem)
***Note: as far as I know, you can only convert to 4ext filesystem if the ROM you are running can support it or you will have problems.

The kernel must support it too but I think all the thunderbolt kernels do. +1 to 4ext best money I've spent on an app.

This is about Recovery software. Titanium is a backup and restore app. The Recovery mainly allows you to flash custom ROMs, however there are plenty of more goodies that you can tinker with in Recovery.

I prefer TWRP over CWM (in recovery mode) . However, I like the ROM Manager app for CWM and am tempted to replace TWRP with CWM so I can use all the features of this app.
(Haven't tried 4ext yet, so I'm going to install it and check it out for myself)
4ext but it does cost money about bill gates type of money. For those who are broker then a crack head on pay day use cwm

Old Amon RA always do the job for me.

[Q] different recoveries...

So from my little bit if reading through Samsung it seems that the only recovery everyone uses is cwm.. are there any other options like the 4ext? Or atleast cwm touch?

I was more or less asking if it was possible because I'm new to Samsung and all I see is Odin cwm in the Samsung forums. I'm coming from HTC so my knowledge is back to ubernoob when it cones to root. I know this phone is new, hell big red isn't even out yet so I wasn't like Wtf how come it isn't done yet.

I would wait a bit to install either of the cwm recoveries. Neither one work 100% yet. There are some issues with both.

[Q]Recovery Question: CWM vs. 4ext

Hey all,
I was wondering your opinions on which recovery is ... "better." I know that's a relative word, but I'm asking for your opinions
I'm on a Rooted Thunderbolt, running ICS Liquidsmooth v1.5 MR3 -- JMOD, and currently using CWM 5.0.2.1.
I'm possibly deciding between CWM Touch (which I have not yet tried), and 4ext (also Touch). Never tried 4ext.
Thanks!

I stuck with CWM. Only reason being that I don't like touch recovery and prefer to use the phones buttons.
So in my opinion, if you want touch, go with 4ext. It's much better and more up to date, I think.

Thank you. I'll try them out, see if I like Touch.
4ext fwiw. I prefer not abusing my volume rocker and power button from using recovery. Plus I hear people have less issues with 4ext than using cwm since 4ext is more up to date.

Yeah I have had corrupted backups a lot with the CWM and with the bolt having issues with sinking power buttons and some people volume rockers wearing out. I like the touch versions it makes navigating really quick. So for me ext4 is all I use now.

Best Recovery

Hi,
I have just rooted my device and I am thinking which is the best and most stable recovery to install. Anyone who can give their opinions. I am mostly thinking of installing Sense 4.4 ROMs
I don't know if there's a "best" recovery since they all do the same thing just in slightly different ways. Personally I've been using twrp and have heard that clockwork is slower, but that's it. They all work fine, just personal preference.
Was just wondering, havent played around with my DNA such, So wanted a recovery which allows with to flash all the ROMs without trouble. Thanks I installed TWRP recovery

TWRP is pretty much what everyone seems to use and recommend.

I've used both, mostly cwm, but twrp recently and I really like it!
I've been using Clockwork Mod without any issue. Love that it has a "flash from last used folder" feature

I use PhilZ's CWM touch recovery...sadly he hasn't updated the DLX build in quite a while.
