Don't expect more 720p recording is more than enough.. I think they will implement 720p after 3.0.8 kernel development completes..

kernel will be little bit faster compare to current kernel ...... almost 500 points more in antutu benchmark, few features like vsync, project butter can be implemented fully & there are few more i don't know clearly about 720p still don't think they will implement on 3.0.8 kernel either because of missing jb camera libs from sony ....
I think we will not have HD video recording ,becouse without it we have 380MB RAM (XJ with kernel 3.0.8 and without HD recording have 380MB RAM).

We got 3.4 also I won't expect 720p recoding without official jb libs... If they implement we get less fps compared to official 720p
Search for besttt fixes in arc cm10 thread. Flash latest lupus kernel or kernel inside fxp220 zip and flash cm10 boot to system. Then flash besttt fixes. Boom! 720p enabled. Enjoy
P.S. Is it so difficult to post in right thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2276094 its a right one to post all sorts of neo/v/l related questions. Please dont make threads for such things. Either search or post in right thread. Thanks

Because I read that the custom roms like CM10 or Pac-rom, the Project Butter features are not fully working, like v-sync in 60FPS and triple buffering. They are partially working only.
Only kernel 3.0 supports them on CM10, I guess.

Ics is no project butter, no triple buffer and no v-sync.. for v-sync simple way to check it out is with root explorer take a look at folder /sys/class is there any name with v-sync if that activated via sys fs

Firstly, thanks.
There is no V-sync in class, like you described. So I presume there is no V-Sync and no Triple Buffering.
I know that you are one of the best developer of this forum, you and korm raised a wonderful rom that was PAC-ROM. Then, I asked to you is there any ROM and Kernel that enables V-Sync?

Hello guyz!
I'm have a Xperia Neo (Unlocked BL), and I tried the FXP 225 CM10. But this version don't have a 720p Record (Yes, I know about recording with 18fps and more free RAM). I can find here a other JB ROM (with other Kernel) with 720p Record? Really, I use my Neo with video recording, and I use too a Google Now. Someone have a advice to give me about another ROM (JB + 720p).
A FXP CM9.1 have a 720p Record?
Thanks!

TIPS:
-If you are using doomkernel, you must flash wifi modules (check attachments)
-If you are having problem when downloading apps from playstore, download and run marketfix
-If you are having trouble with root in your rom with one of these kernels, install latest busybox, then update su binaries from within superuser app
WARNING:
Flashing kernel with different partition layout will make your current rom unbootable!!!
You must do factory reser (erase system and data) after flashing new kernel!!!!! MAKE BACKUP! Recommended way is to backup apps with "Titanium backup" or "Mybackuproot". You have been warned!
NOTE:
For easier wiping system and data, i've made batch file for windows users(it should help too if you are stuck in kernel logo and/or in recovery menu):
Download eraser.zip unpack anywhere in PC, and double-click on file "start.bat" when phone is fastboot mode to erase system and data partitions (best time to do it is right after flashing new kernel, but don't forget to select "factory reset" from recovery because ".android secure" folder from sd card must be erased too)

I've compiled Turbo Kernel (from 450344ebfc commit but still with cwm because on 175196a5ba commit cwm removed) with 400 gb system partition, some minor bugfix and bring back 720p support (though CosmicDan said it's buggy but I need 720p video recording). I haven't talk to CosmicDan yet to upload this kernel. I'll share the kernel both 720p and 480p after I got permission from CosmicDan.
edit: btw I can't pm @CosmicDan so @CosmicDan can I share your kernel mod? Thanks in advance

720p will not get nothing for our play..believe me..only consumes more ram as we dont have camera libs for it..not even on arcS and its better camera..even if you record on 1280x720p the fps are below( 640x480) 480p..so its a placebo effect..it seems recording but the quality indeed is inferior.

I admit, i didn't test jb kernel only (but it compiled without problem)
I think i know what is an issue (same reason it wouldn't work on other CM kernels).
For now, don't flash JB kernel (i'll delete from it OP) and i'll try to make it work
Ps: as i understand, you can enter recovery and flash rom? Did it even show kernel logo?
ps2: did you wiped system and data after/before flashing kernel?
sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question but the Q&A threads seem to only get "views" not replies.
will these work with the R800x with functioning network? id like to have a larger Data partition but it seems all the Kernels ive tried dont allow me to connect to my carrier (VZW).
thanks in advance.

I don't have r800x model, but i think it will not work for you. Maybe some r800x user can explain better why it will not work, but as i understand verizion firmware have locked vendor partition

Kernel logo didn't show
And yes i wiped system and data
Even i flashed kernel again when i saw that phone didn't boot
this time kernel logo showed but it got stuck on boot animation
Sorry for my bad English

Unfortunatelly, i wasn't able to fix it. I'm also stuck at boot animation.
Oh, well, i guess Lupus Jb v8 is only way to get bigger data partition on JB roms (that or arc s firmware flash)
Sorry guys for not testing this before published. Other versions are all tested and are working properly.
I don't know why Wedgess switch back to stock partition layout on JB v9+, but it must be good reason to do so.

This was postd by COsmicDan in all his threads when he closed the threads. so I think you can post the kernel.. and just Credit to him.. I would love to see someone improving on the Turbo Kernel, while not messing with its original structure.. I mean the originality..

720p will not get nothing for our play..believe me..only consumes more ram as we dont have camera libs for it..not even on arcS and its better camera..even if you record on 1280x720p the fps are below( 640x480) 480p..so its a placebo effect..it seems recording but the quality indeed is inferior.

yap I knew this but I still prefer 720p instead even though the quality might be worse than 480p and I'd like to share with the other member who want it.

The vendor partition is already unlocked for cdma. But not sure if those kernels will boot for us R800x users. It's one of those things you would have to just try.

in this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2328708 all went fine with r800x users flashing custom kernel lupus GB+ICS so i dont think they are gonna have problems installing this modified ones..only thing has changed as partitions..but maybe anyone can test and confirm this.:good:
V2:
It was tested by me only on latest cm10 nightly, but it is possible that it might work on top of other CM10 roms too (reported to work on SJB 8 too).
Install:
0. Make backup
1. install latest cm10 nightly (20131006):
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=smultron
2. flash kernel - DEVICENAME_naaashmem.img
3. flash zip - cm10_enable720p_v2_allinone.zip or cm10_enable720p_v2.zip. The first one includes some useful mods not related to camera, read changelog (Other mods) below! The second one only includes stuff related to camera.
Downloads at:
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/1t1kwpbtbcl6w/cm10v2
Use default camera app for best results!
Changelog:
-enabled video stabilization (forced on for now, might make it optional later)
-disabled face detection in recording mode in default camera app to improve fps, it wasn't working anyway
-no-copy patch for recording buffer to regain ram and improve fps
-use ashmem instead of pmem for graphic buffers to regain even more ram (stock ics does this too). No issues found so far, performance is like before.
-total ram: 412 MB, out of which 4 megs is always allocated for gr. buffers, so 408 MB really
-stock ics like autobrightness enabled
Other mods (only included in cm10_enable720p_v2_allinone.zip):
-electron beam animation
-faster scrolling, reduced scroll friction
-more strick dalvik vm to save 1-1.5 MB ram per app.
-fixed web browser crash on some video sites

The kernel is based on
https://github.com/nobodyAtall/msm7x30-2.6.32.x-nAa
The files modified by me can be found at https://www.mediafire.com/folder/m0t4hx8ac4hhz/naa_kernel
The changed files are to be copied here:
arch/arm/mach-msm/
Modified ramdisk file (init.rc) is also uploaded at the same place.
My CM10 patches are here:
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/gw8sy9ozc8cos/sourcepatch
V1:
I have been testing 720p recording in CM10 roms recently. It looks like it is not impossible to reach good fps in CM after all.
It was inspired by the maker of MESA kernel an0nym0us_ who used stock camera lib in cm10. Big thanks to him!
My test rom was SJB 8.0 and CM10 nightly 2013.10.06.
Basically I did 3 modifications:
1. Copied camera.semc.so to /system/lib/hw/
2. Modified media_profiles.xml
3. Modified pmem sizes in kernel. Used nAa kernel as base. Free ram is 388 MB at the moment. Still testing it...
The result is good hd recording at near 29.7 fps. The smoothest results come in the camera app found in Super Jelly Bean 8.0. Other apps like stock CM cam and LGCamera produce around 25-27 fps but it can be improved with a tweak.
So here is what to do:
1. Flash kernel (mini_naa720p.img or minipro_naa720p.img or lww_naa720p.img or active_naa720p.img)
2. flash zip in cwm (cm10_enable720p.zip)
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/f28fff1i6i5v1/
Make sure nothing is runnning (like mediascanner) when recording!
Check video fps with ffmpeg in terminal emulator:
Type
Code:
ffmpeg -i videoname.mp4
If fps is only around 25-27 try this in terminal:
Code:
su
renicesflinger.sh 0
Pls report back if it's working for you, I was a bit tired when writing this...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About the kernel: it's based on
https://github.com/nobodyAtall/msm7x30-2.6.32.x-nAa
I changed one file:
arch/arm/mach-msm/board-semc_mogami.c
The changed file can also be found at https://www.mediafire.com/folder/f28fff1i6i5v1/
Current values are these:
Code:
#define MSM_FB_SIZE 0x200000
#define MSM_PMEM_SF_SIZE 0x800000
#define MSM_PMEM_CAMERA_SIZE 0xBE0000
#define MSM_PMEM_ADSP_SIZE 0x1F80000
I think 1 mb more ram can be regained...
Impressive work !
Can you document changes in your kernel ?
or can you just make a patch file so it can be used on every CM 10 kernel ?
Will it work on CM 10.1 based roms, say JV?
Impressive
As You Used Mini Lib Files Is It Somehow Possible To Replace These Files And Use In Other Xperia 2011 Lineup?

I think it WILL work, just need to replace ramdisk of kernel.
Anyway, that's great! It definitely worth testing on CM11.

Wish it were that simple ...Booting with 2.6.x kernel can cause unexpected errors ...CM11 is optimized for kernel 3.4.x...
Finally ! Can't wait to be ported to CM11 on Xperia Mini Pro !

Sure I will, only 3-4 lines changed in board-semc_mogami.c, I will post it when I am at home.
Works with Mesa kernel too.

No....the camera libs are only compatible with 2.6.x kernel ....There are no libs compatible with 3.4.x kernel and rewriting them will take years ...

Can you post some recording samples? On stock .587 FW audio & video recording is very good so it would be great to compare the quality

The kernel contains a ramdisk for jb4.2 so it's not impossible. You could perhaps try...
Added source change to opening post.

MX player says it's 6mb/s, I did a quick capture (20-30 secs) it looks great on the phone. I can't say how well it looks on pc because I'm having some trouble with my sd-card (it wont show all the folders, only 4-5, when I connect it to a pc - this is not related to this great mod by miniuser123)
Test with CM 10.1

Nope..It doesnt boot, after the bootanim,a blackscreen comes and stays like that.Tested with JV 6.0(Maybe its because it was based on CM10.1 LX 20131108 NIGHTLY for anzu and coconut ? )

Just managed to get stock camera lib to work with kernel 3.4. It was really easy too. FPS is almost as good as in kernel 2.6.
I tried it in CM10, I hope it will work in kitkat... Will install cm11 tomoz.
My theory: cm and stock camera lib only differs in that stock uses pmem_camera, while cm one uses pmem_adsp. For some reason pmem_camera is faster, probably because it is cached pmem (not sure what that means in case of pmem)...
