I though that if you were s-off, that was the same as ENG Hboot. Is that not correct? I am s-off, but it still says HBOOT 1.33 in the bootloader screen. Can someone please explain the difference.

They're not the same, the eng hboot has extra commands that can cause big problems if you don't know what you're doing.
Ok. Trying to flash a new radio, just wanted to make sure I do it right. Thanks!

Rule of thumb: If you dont know what it does, you dont need it.
I just wanted to make sure I didn't need it to flash a radio. Got it flashed now, all is good!

I've gotten a hold of the radio for the new 8/29 OTA, but I'm holding off on flashing them because I don't want to brick my device. I've looked around different websites and no one seems to give a straightforward answer. Can someone tell me if this is safe and the risks I'm running if I flash the new radio.
I've flashed the new radios on AOKP and everything is running just fine, you should be OK by flashing the radios on CM10 because flashing radios aren't ROM dependent. As long as your S-Off you'll be alright

I think you need to be S-OFF to flash radios but I could be wrong you should ask in the Captain Throwbacks radio thread
EDIT: Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704612

I tried it and got nothing. I think the reason is because the dumlock only gives you access to the boot partition. I'm pretty sure the radios are in a different partition. Looks like I'll have to wait for an exploit. I was a little late to root so I'm on hboot 1.15

Well hopefully it works out for you I'm sure these Devs will find a way around it
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
If you are on boot 1.15 and son you can't flash radios. Only way to do it would be to ruu.
And you don't want that

So I'm s-off wire trick, jbear hboot 1.5 I believe?, I'm wondering should I update to the lates radios firmware hboot etc....or am I already not sure, what are the benefits? I'm seeing a lot of roms requiring updated stuff
Thanks you guys are great
I just read something about jbear 1.58? Mine says jbear1.5 I thought after the wire trick it flashed 1.58 or is there in updated one

I personally am running the latest firmware and radios since as you said, many roms are calling for them. I used the one from Freeza without the hboot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26563118
I would also downgrade to hboot1.4 since all ROMs boot on it except for those running the newest stock kernel (which most aren't by default).

As far as the hboot do u have a link as well? And I just rename it put on ad card and get to bootloader?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Ramjet posted them all here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30014044
The rest of the thread has good info about the different hboot versions that mpgrimm wrote, so you may want to red it.
Oh, and yes, rename to PG86IMG.zip, and boot into bootloader. This holds for both the hboot and freeza's firmware zip.

Thanks just one more thing, flashing a new hboot won't turn my s-off to on will it?
I just want to be safe I don't want s-off or have to unlock again

You will keep s-off. The bootloader may say Locked, but that's irrelevant since still being s-off is what's important. You don't need to unlock.

How do I make an RUU rooted? Meaning I keep the custom hboot and recovery. I'm s-off. I flashed the latest global RUU a while back after being on clean Rom for a while, and hated having to push the hboot and amon ra recovery again. I'm running Newts one XxX 3.2.1 now and I love it, but I just want to remember what stock was like I guess lol. Maybe so I can appreciate the devs more. Can I just delete the hboot***file, boot_signed.IMG and recovery_signed.img files from the ph98img.zip and all be good? Or will it bootloop or possibly brick my phone.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Yes you can do that, just removing the recovery will do the trick. If you remove the boot from it, it will bootloop. That should keep you rooted and keep your current recovery. Be sure to unzip the zip file, then remove it, then re zip it up and run it

Thank you. So I leave the hboot in the .zip as well? Won't that flash over the custom hboot and remove the fastboot option?

Ok cool. Thanks. That's what I thought from reading on xda for a while, but I wanted to make sure before I did it so I didn't have any issues and have to start over anyway.

I suppose I do need the boot IMG too since I'm moving from sense 4.0 to 3.6 and ics maybe slightly different too like 4.02 and 4.03

Well since the ruu will replace your rom, you will need to keep the boot.img that comes with the ruu

Yeah, that's right.

Is there a back to stock method for the 1.58 hboot for the Htc evo v 4g? Or could I just get away with flashing a stock unrooted rom and the stock recovery? I might have to get a replacement evo v 4g because I'm pretty sure I'm having a hardware malfunction so in which case I'll have to send the current one I have back. So any help would be appreciated.

ok i have just s-offed and now i have idea how to change the HBoot... idk what to do. please inform me...
I'm pretty sure if you're s off, you've already changed your hboot.
Now you need to decide what you want to do...boot to bootloader and it will say what hboot you're on...jb needs 1.5 or lower

I'm saying how do I flash a hboot on my phone had no idea. But I got it looked around for a long time. Finally got it.
