How come the vzw tablet will not load any rom except those made specifically for it? I'm willing to lose 3G/4G connectivity but no rom will load past the Samsung sign. The European 3G tablet can load any rom but it will lose mobile data if the rom isn't built for it, how come the vzw tab doesn't work this way?

I live in the Fremont area and would much rather have an lte tab. Want to trade my wifi tab for your vzw tab?
I'm far from an expert, just a user who loves rooted android devices but I'd venture to guess that the fact that Pershoot developed separate kernels for various models of Galaxy Tab 10.1's is an indication that at some fundamental level these things are different.
It'd be interesting to see if there's a way to take the ROMs being distributed for other models and modify them prior to flashing in order to make them compatible with our device. I just don't know how to do this personally.
Sadly, no developers have the LTE model so we're stuck with rooted stock.
I would think though that short of the theme part of many of the popular ROMs there shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't modify a stock LTE device to conform to the changes these ROMs have. It just takes a lot of work compared to flashing a prebuilt one . .
There are hardware differences between the LTE and Wifi versions of the tabs, which means that they run on different kernels. As Muzzy was saying, the developers would need to develop a kernel and a LTE-specific Rom for the VZW tab. It's unfortunate, but that's what happens when a carrier gets into a device, they have the manufacturer "customize" the build. I'm sure some devs will be getting into the LTE tab soon enough, or at least someone will port another dev's work from another tab to the vzw version.

Say I wasn't worried about 3G/4G, if I get a lte kernel, do you think the wifi only kangs will work? Currently it will load but it will not go past the Samsung screen

In order to give a definitive answer I would have to look through the differences in how Kangs and the VZW rom handle radios, but I'd venture to say probably not. Usually the roms have to be ported from one device to another in order to account for the differences in hardware. This is the case with the Samsung Nexus S and the Nexus S 4G. They have nearly identical hardware, (except for the radios,) and while they share an OS, (Gingerbread,) you can't flash a Nexus S rom to a Nexus S 4G. Sorry.
Hey all. I searched for an answer to this question, but haven't really found a solid answer. And i'd like to know before doing something that might mess up my new delicious Galaxy Note.
So I just got a T-Mobile Note yesterday (T879) and I rooted it. But when I looked in the T-Mobile dev section, it was pretty sparse. Then I saw that the AT&T and International ones had so much more content.
So, are the ROMS made for the other Notes compatible with the T-Mobile Note? By compatible, I mean, 1) they won't brick my phone, 2) my radios and HSPA+ will still work, 3) generally stable.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You can use +any+ roms in this development section. Some of the roms will make your phone run super slow, but I don't know which ones.
You can use the Canadian roms, but they make the phone real laggy too.
You can use the N7005 rom. Its the internatiinal version of our model.
You can't flash any roms or apk's from the international note N7000 -- that will hard brick your phone.
Just curious to know if developers think the note is that bad? I am surprised that at this time with a totally unlocked Note there is only 4 give or take ROMs available for us, which in reality only 2 are kept up to date.
Yet, i browsed the T-mobile section and there are more than a handful with constant updating....
I know one of the main reasons is the price of the Note, developers do this for free and to obtain a note it obviously cost money...but is that the only reason?
What are your thoughts?
nope
My thoughts are that there are already three or me threads complaining about the development. We don't need more, build your own ROM if you think we need more.
Also, learn to count. There are 3-4 TW ROMs, and Eclipse will be dropping soon. They're are also multiple AOSP ROMs (liquid smooth, beans, AOKP, official cm10.1 to name a few)

I thought the same when I bought my s3 and it picked up. I just upgraded to the note2 and like that scottsroms and beans are available. They are solid builds and there are plenty of mods that are available to accent those. There are more coming from what I understand so be patient. I think the biggest problem for us is verizon messing with our bootloader all the time.

Keep in mind, VZW was the last carrier to release the note2. That, coupled with the fact that with the exception of the gnex, a lot of the top tier unlockable bootloader devices are on other carriers...
It continues to improve and the phone has only been around for ~3 months.
t0ltecdma getting official cm10.1 is a huge step in the right direction.

Well no need to start with the insults...i said "4 give or take" . The 2 roms that i said are kept up to date from what i found is CleanROM and Beans, (ok there may be AOKP and others) but i am attached to TW and i have used both and have no complaints, but i am like the majority of the members here, i like to try different roms here and there nothing wrong with that, right?.
If i knew how or had the time to build a ROM i would, unfortunately i don't so i let the professionals do the nasty work, I am not demanding the devs to hurry up, it was just a simple question to try to get my self educated on the lack of devs for the note 2.

I fully understand, i was just curious to know as i had the S3 since release, and as soon as the bootloader got unlocked the Development of it went higher.

Well there is beans, clean lite, the Verizon clean, a 4.2.1 clean. Eclipse will be here very shortly and the dev of jedi said his is coming soon too. Also, whether it's your favorite or not the AOSP based are still development and those are piling up.
By the I would have flashed a different ROM every day on my s3 so I know about switching it up. My point was we keep getting these threads when I personally think one asking why there isn't more development is to many.
But to answer your question it's a 600 phone (developers work for free) that's been out for 3 months and had a locked (then relocked) boot loader.

If you actually look at most of these roms on other carriers you'll see that they're just re-themes and the same combination of kitchen tweaks. In other words, just slightly different flavors of the same framework. I seriously don't feel like we're missing out on anything. Not to mention most of these roms on other carriers will port over just fine, it takes about the time and effort required to complain on an internet forum about a problem you could fix yourself.

Liquid too!
As long as I have Eclipse I have no need to flash anything else. Not putting the other roms down I have ran clean rom and beans and they are good roms. But Eclipse is all I need
As long as I have Beans & my favorite red/black theme, I don't need anything else myself.....
I think this device has the perfect amount of development...I like the fact there is not 100 versions of the same thing cluttering up the dev section.

Beans isn't an AOSP rom, it's just themed that way.

What did I miss? Where is 4.2.1 clean for the Note 2?
The Note 2 just received official CM 10.1 nightlies, so once some of the kinks are ironed out (which may not be until Samsung releases a 4.2 update), we'll probably see a lot more development coming. CM 10.1 is the base for pretty much every rom except AOKP and PA. And again, we only have official nightly builds so far, not official "stable" builds and that may deter a few devs until we see full blown support.

Howdy all,
I am looking at the Crash ROM for my Note 2, mostly because it seems to be the best at supporting the S-pen and the features that make the Note 2 more than just an oversized S3. Question though... I cant find anywhere that states if the ROM does or does not support the Verizon version of the Note 2, SCH-I605. The offical ROM posting is in one of the other dev forums, and the only post I could find asking for Vzw support wasnt answered.
Does anyone know if Crash ROM will work for me?
If not, is there a similar ROM everyone uses to maintain maximum use of the S-pen and other features?
Thanks
Why don't you link the thread? Also you could just make a backup and give it a shot. If it didn't work just restore.

This is true... I am something of a noob when it comes to this, as I've only rooted one phone and it was a few years ago, so I am hesitant to experiment too much. Especially if something is specifically NOT designed for my device. You make a good point though. Could easily Nandroid myself right back to stock.
Heres the official Crash ROM thread.

Understandable. I personally wouldn't try it because it seems to have a modem flash built in. I'm sure it would be okay, but I don't like to play with the modem.
I'm not sure what it does special with the s pen though? Any of the Verizon touch wiz bard ROMs keep use of it. So check out Eclipse (my personal choice), clean vROM, Jedi (crazy fast), or Beans

Thanks for the recommends! I will check those out. I had just read several posts and seen some vids which indicated Crash maintained more support for the pen and other Note 2 features. Some ROMs apparently dont. Im still getting up to speed on what my options are. Thanks again.

My Galaxy tab 2 10.1/SGH-I497 from AT&T seems to have no support for anything other than rooting. Am I missing something? I'm under the impression that only roms specifically designated for the I497 should used but it's hard to believe that there's no interest in porting over a couple of the more popular roms. Is my assumption correct, or will a rom for a non-AT&T version work and I just didn't get the memo?

I'm not sure.. but if you can find a forum for the tab 2 10.1..then ask around.. I would guess that the roms would flash fine, but you will need to find out you're APN's so you will have data after flashing a rom for another carrier..
