[Q] Issues with Resurrection Remix JB 3.1.3 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
The XDA forum has always my resource for problem solving, but being fully stuck after an upgrade to the Resurrection Remix JB 3.1.3, I'd like to take the opportunity to post, I think my 1st thread. I hope that I am posting this at the right spot, but if not, my appologies.
So, I upgraded my SGS2 from the "old" DLev Rom, 2.3.5 based to the RR 3.1.3, and I have a number of issues. For the upgrade I used exactly the steps prescribed on the RR page, and I hope that these apply to my situation, DLev 2.3.5 to RR 4.2.1.
1. After doing a Titanium Backup restore, I get each time after booting a "exchange service lost" error. The Wifi icon looks like split in 2, and I get the message that access to email is lost. This is weird, as I am not at all using an exchange server, only yahoo and 4 IMAP accounts. As I found out I can however recover from this error by explicitly opening my K-9 email.
2. As I found the RR launcher a bit poor, I started using my LauncherPro. However, in configuring, and more in particular in adding shortcuts to the screen, and scrolling to select an app, the S2 locks up, and a reboot is the only way to bring it back to life. Is it a compatibility issue, or is it something else?
3. And thirdly, I am unable to synchronize with my gmail account. I always get the message that the Google sync is having problems, but they will be resolved soon. Have tried all recommendations given by google, unchecking the to sync items and rechecking them, but Iacnnot get the problem resolved.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, and I'll be looking forward to getting reactions.

In checking my Dropbox, I noticed the message "SYNC OFF". I checked the whole settings page, but am unable to find the settings for sync, or a config to auto-sync.
This might at the same time be the reason for the Google sync issues. Does anyone know where this setting is hiding?

Download the stable Root Box Rom v3.9.1 (based on android 4.2.2) from the link below and flash the same after a full wipe
http://goo.im/devs/RootBox/RootBox_i9100_jb/RootBox-JB-i9100-V3.9.1.zip
Ps- also dwnld the 'Gapps' package from the link below and flash after installing the Rom.
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip

Thanks for the recommendation but before going to another ROM, I rather figure out why I am having these issues. And by the way, the RR is awesome in power and speed. I flashed it a 2nd time today, but the same issues.
If I could just figure out where that darn sync button is hiding, Anyone know?

For Dropbox, Sync is turned ON when you choose to auto upload images from camera. See here:

I sadly enough don't seem to get many responses. Well, here is my next finding.
I'm pretty busy with too many projects, but I took some time to google Jelly Bean issues, and one high up the list is the sync.
Two ways to enable the auto-sync:
1. Settings > Data usage. Hit menu button and select auto-sync. And for me, auto-sync was already enabled. But not doing it's job.
2. Power Control widget, enable auto-sync. Strange enough, the auto-sync was enabled with with under data usage, but not in the power control widget. I enabled it, went to check the accounts, google and Dropbox, and no change. Google sync problems and Dropbox, sync is OFF.
I rebooted. Same situation, no change at all.
So guys, I am getting back to you all. Is there another hidden setting to enable the sync?

Hi, and thanks for the response. I gave it a try, but sync is still OFF. I do have to add that I unchecked the option to upload all existing pictures/videos, as I don't need 99% of the pictures and videos in my dropbox account. Is this option maybe also key?

I honestly don't know, because I don't use Auto Upload feature. Maybe ur Auto Sync is turned off?

And the story continues.
I did a test, and scheduled an appointment in my Outlook. And, apparently a sync was done, because my mobile gave me the alarm.
I uploaded a test file to my dropbox, went to check on my mobile a while later, and the file was present.
So what the heck is happening. Dropbox sync stays OFF, the Google account gives sync errors, but even then, the sync is done.
After a reboot I also still get the Exchange server error.
Does anyone have any info?

To help spread booksync please become a fan.
I you are feeling really generous please consider donating by clicking here
Thanks
Mike.
Thanks for making such a great app.
So far, I haven't been able to get the Birthday Sync to work. Would it matter if my friends have their birthdays hidden?
Hi, thanks for your support.
Facebook just return the birthday as a string made up of all the parts the friend has allowed access to. I attempt to parse that and only update if a full date can be found.
So sorry if people are hiding their year of birth they wont update.
Mike
Does what it says on the tin.
Very nice, and very useful. Thank you for making this available.
This looks very very good -- and I've tried every "Facebook to Outlook or Windows Mobile" app out there.
Really looking forward to:
* Higher resolution contact photo's
* Ability to select which of the matched contacts get sync'ed (so "matched" doesn't equal "sync'ed")
* Option to not sync pictures (if you just want to sync birthdays, for instance): I have a number of friends whose Facebook profile pictures aren't as nice as the contact pictures I've given them...
If you find the time:
* More things to sync, like home address, work, Facebook groups to Outlook categories... (if possible)
* Individual sync settings for each contact that are stored for future sync'ing so it can really be used as an automated process.
These are just to inspire you, it's not a list of demands!

The pictures being sync'd are the highest quality pics that can be sync'd. Facebook gives you a few options to select from (square, small, big, normal), from feed back from mainly htc users I select the biggest picture possible to sync with. This is dependent on the image that the friend uploads of course.
Your other point about selecting which contacts to sync has been mentioned before. I plan to redesign the UI to include this. I'm an asp.net/win forms developer who originally wrote booksync for myself and decided to release it then it took on a mind of its own from feedback etc.
The redesign of the UI may take a bit of time as I learn so will be included in future release.
I will investigate how much can be sync'd.
Would really love for phone number and email address but these are not available.
Thanks for your feedback its just what I was after
Nice work. Thanks!
Wow. Ill give it a roll. Looking forward to the update you mention with choosing which pictures
Outlook Birthdays (if not given the year can be done by adding the "current year" but that should also be optional.
I have tried it and loving it.
I only have to fix the file as after I am done syncing.
It would also be nice to import facebook contacts as well even if it is just a link to their web adress such as www.facebook.com/friend that way the contacts can be integrated into PIE as well.
any chance you also use myspace?
I have been switching over, but some of my friends have not. In fact, I have a lot more friends on myspace than on FaceBook.
thanks for sharing this great app.
Thanks.
Will look at working create contacts into a future release.
As for myspace I will have to do some investigating around their api (if they have one) I dont use myspace so not played around with it.
i installed it but uninstalled it on my htc touch pro...it worked once for me then it kept on crashing. i never got it to work since the first sync..not sure why...

I got a minor problem of the login page not really fitting on my QVGA screen and no scroll bars to adjust. the size of the fonts are good, but I have to use the tab key to select the password and logn button. also have to fix file as in my contacts.
Login page needs the most work.

yea it says some type of program error and crashes...other then that it worked nicely on the first try....but until this is fixed i will wait again...great work on it tho..i just wished that it synced everything that the fonebook app does which works similar
Having some issues as it looks like everything is fine but it just sits with the "Syncing..." message on screen but does nothing, even after half an hour.
I was hoping to remove the link to the first contact in case it's just his contact causing the issue but I can't see a way. I ven uninstalled but it's retained the link. Where are the settings stored so I can start from fresh?
Hi,
The picture quality is actually pretty ok. Much better than what you get when adding pictures in (desktop) Outlook.
Thanks for considering my suggestions. The option to select which of the matched contacts are sync'ed will be a great enhancement, I hope you get it done.
What would also make me happy is the option not to sync pictures, and being able to choose this for each contact individually... some of my friends have really ugly profile pics.
Creating new contacts from unmatched Facebook friends, as someone suggested, is a really good idea as well. Somehow your program feels really promising. I think that's why a lot of people are rooting for you to make it into a full-fledged Facebook-to-Contacts sync solution (not just pictures). Too bad Facebook doesn't make phone numbers and e-mail adresses available, but well, that's how it is.

One more thing... From time to time, Booksync stops working: it starts up, tries to log in, then throws an error each time.
I noticed that by removing the <SessionKey> line from the settings file, I could get the program working again.

Where is the BookSync Settings file
It's under 'Program Files/BookSync' and is called 'settings.bss'. Removing the entire settings file would work too, but then you'd have to re-match all you contacts. If you only delete that single line in a simple text editor, you can keep the rest of your settings.
Hope it works for you too.

Data hemorrhaging? Anyone else?

The first day I got my Atrix, I put it on WiFi after going home and syncing GMail, etc. I then checked my data. To my surprise...I had downloaded 60 MB! Coming from my iPhone 3G, where I used about 50 MB/MONTH, one day of 60 MB was quite...interesting, to say the least. I am on WiFi at school, at home. I browse FB and Engadget for 1 hr on and off on the trains (where I also get WiFi at stations). I tested my data usage last month because I was hesitant about paying 70$ a month and was considering paying for the 200 MB plan, but I kept the unlimited.
So I set up another control. Yesterday, I kept my internet on--BACKGROUND OFF--and did not access any internet apps, gmail, email, what have you until I was back home and on WiFi. WiFi was kept off during the time before home. Here is the proof (friend's 3GS, my 3G is the last picture you'll see).

Yet....I still used 6MB of data (I cannot take picture of screen at time but I will update in a few hours when I can). This is not a lot, I realize. But if you consider that literally I was not using any data at all, this is quite a lot, especially multiplied by 30 days. 200 - 180 = 20 MB of data useable in the month!
Anyone getting these kind of results?
And as a bonus picture, taken the night I got my Atrix:
4G, **** YEA! (Long Island, NY. 2 Bars, connected to NY server. WiFi settings: 14/5)
QUICK EDIT: I turned off push for every email and yet...I sent an email to myself, a minute later my phone vibrated with new email? Can this be affecting my data usage?
What apps have you installed? Those use data also. Also, did you check sync settings outside of e-mail? There are a LOT of things that use data that are not e-mail. My phone's due to be delivered tonight so I don't have any Blur experience yet but my EVO has a section in settings called "Accounts & Sync" where you can see things that are set to sync at the system level. Individual apps can have their own settings as well - Facebook, Twitter, Photobucket, News and Weather, EBay, Fox News, App Brain, Chrome to Phone, Amazon, Amazon MP3, InstaFetch, MySpace, Google Rader, Skype, Google Talk, all can use data (just going through my EVO's app menu).
I got mine two days ago and have only installed a few apps. Email and Gmail are the only ones that would use data...and on Email I made it NEVER update unless manual. I think this is why Android users use more data than iPhone users.

That's not true at all. Since you had to sign up for a motoblur account when you first set the phone up, that phones home, and there is a setting for synchronizing your data and settings with motoblur. Ensure that's off too.
Running a weather widget? News widget? Using the Forest live wallpaper? That monitors weather over the internet too. How about latitude? Picasa? Have your account setup through motoblur on Facebook? That will pull down statuses when the app isn't open, and show them in your contacts.
Point is, there are a ton of apps from the factory that utilize data, and some of the widgets run in the background even if they're not setup on your phone.
Android users use more data than iPhone users because we can do significantly more with our phones without opening applications. A 200MB plan isn't viable for an Android poweruser. The 2GB limit is just fine, though - The most data I've used was around 900MB, and that included pulling down ROMs over the air on my Captivate, etc.
I've pulled 900MB over wifi, but only 1.35MB over network. I only let facebook sync over wifi. GMail syncs when it can (my workplace is like a bomb shelter). And today, I missed the exit on the highway and turned on GPS and maps after getting off the next ramp. I would have thought I sucked up more data by now, but apparently I haven't.
Okay, but I'm on WiFi and this should NOT be happening.
I just checked again today. I went from 62.3 at 6 AM to 107.8 as of right now!! WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON? I have been on WiFi almost the entire time! Why the **** is this happening? 2 days and 100 MB used? That's unsustainable!

Can you please tell me how to check and disable the Motoblur updating? I have no facebook apps or any of that other stuff. no weather, whatever.
I really shouldn't be flipping out but this is ridiculous, I'm paranoid about downgrading and getting hit.
Android tends to use a lot more data with background data from apps and especially widgets. When your screen is off it usually defaults to your data connection. You can change it to leave Wi-fi on all the time by going to Settings>Wireless & Network Settings>Wi-fi Settings>Click Menu Advance> and change Wi-fi sleep policy to never. This may affect your battery life but you will probably use less data by doing this.
^ I dont think I wouldve ever found that menu .
Can someone post how to limit or disable MotoBLUR syncing?
Which ones out of these would use it though?
Applanet
Barcode scanner
Bettercut
Browser
Digital Clock Widget
Enhanced Email
Gmail
Widget Locker
Not sure which other programs could even use it. I am pretty sure I have GMail locked down.
I called AT&T about my voicemail they fixed that, I have'em on the data and the lowest 4G speeds.

I did this. Tomorrow at work I'm downloading a huge application (basement, so there will be no WiFi) but Sunday I will do a benchtest on this. I will be at home the ENTIRE time so theoretically all data should be sent through WiFi.
I thought we'd find this humorous.

I'll try that Saturday night, thanks. So I'm expecting a <5MB across the entire day if even anything.
I'm seeing similar behavior where there is some sort of non-trivial amount of data being transfered. I'm using TrafficStats which if can be believed I'm seeing about 3 to 4MB of data every other hour associated with "Mobile Desktop" (which lists a bunch of sub items.).
The other very strange thing is that the majority of the data is UP (not down).
I've got similar apps installed on an Archos 70 tablet (gmail + touchdown for corporate email) and I have never seen this kind of background taffic.
In some good news the phone went from 107.5 to 108.4 across the night. Not that much, 1 MB.
Check the AT&T site for data usage, since that will be the official amount for the bill.
I hope your apps don't combine network data and wifi data to give you your data usage.
If you're really in a bind, try seeing what turning off ALL data does. That's Settings>Data Manager>Data Delivery>Background Data & Data Roaming & Data Enabled
I'd also suggest installing an app like Net Counter, which will monitor the types of data used and update a desktop icon as that changes. It won't tell you exactly what ran, but it will show you WHEN something has just run, and that might give you some hints.

The second one, after entering server details. But it doesn't matter, I'm just using the hotmail app at the moment, although it would be nice to get it working with the standard mail app.

Yeah it's ICS, using MIUI for the Sensation, but it's the same App so that shouldn't matter I don't think.
Just tried m.hotmail.com and it worked, thanks!
Is there a way yet to use the alias outlook addresses to sent out mails using using this method ?

After having trouble earlier this week as well, I finally got the account to work today with only having to input my username and password.
I got mine working on 3rd party email apps by going through POP3, then entering pop3.live.com, and smtp.live.com for the SMTP section. SSL enabled on both.
I tried to do that..but it kept saying "Server error" ...I figured out that the server for live mail is snt-m.hotmail.com ...and it worked !!! Thanks for the solution
The info colected here might help a lot. Tried myself to find this info a few days ago and most Google results pointed to outlook express or something.
Thanks for sharing.

I just lost my phone right now, and I want to remove my play store account remote by using my computer, and connecting through my stolen phone.
Anyone knows how to do that?
Change the passport on the website maybe.

I think there is a way to remotely track or reset, maybe try that..

How do I remotely track my phone and delete my account?
I don't know about tracking your phone, but head here and:
Change your password: Security->Change password
Remove any Android stuff from authorised applications: Security->Authorising applications and sites - Edit
After that, your phone shouldn't be able to sign into your Google account.
Thanks a lot for the info.
Just a quick question. I saw some on my list which had "Android" and something more, don't remember, plus I saw "Android - full account access" or something. Does it mean if I remove the list, it will definitely totally remove my account on my old devices which was stolen completely off?

Unfortunately, your account won't be removed from the phone (so data like cached Gmail emails will probably be still visible), but the phone will not be able to sign into your account to download apps etc. (especially paid apps), read your new emails and so on

If tiu check your email related to your account and check if you have anything bought ,you should put a lock screen on the phone next time tho, you could also put a password on play store(go to the app and settings )

Install this on your next device

It's a pretty amazing app, I have it on all Android devices in my stable. It's EXTREMELY powerful and easy to use at that. If I were in your current situation and had Cerberus onboard, I'd login via Web interface, activate tracking, lock the screen, then set it to take a picture with the FF camera as soon as the phone is touched. Once the screen is touched the pic will be emailed to your gmail, then I'd activate the alarm and have a message that says, "I know where you are...." flashed on the screen along with the screeching alarm sound. When they try to stop the alarm, another pic would be taken.
Once the pics are done and the fun with the alarm and message is over, I'd remotely wipe the sd card and begin trying to make way to the phone. All else fails send the wipe phone command and then call Sprint and report it stolen so they kill data and voice services.
Good luck man!
Kid you not, it's simple to do all that, even from someone else's phone.

You might consider Cerberus.
For a lowly 4$ you can remotely track your lost phone/call it/take pictures/record audio/wipe the sd card n much more...

I followed this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48950150&postcount=2 and I was able to get internet access using bluetooth on my US 1/8 TS from my SIII on T-Mobile 4G. I installed the EasyTether Tablet and the HackConnectivity module on the TS and EasyTether on my phone. So far its working great; it has been over three hours and no disconnections. Play Store and Internet browsing all work.
Working apps that were tested:
-Browser
-Play Store
-Gmail: Auto-Sync and notifications working
-Email: Auto-Sync and notifications working
-Hangouts: Auto-Sync and notifications working
-DropBox
Does GMail automatic syncing work? Does GMail sync work manually?

I believe it should because the hack is faking WiFi from BT but I'll install GMail and test it now.
Cool, thanks. I think I tried EasyTether and couldn't get Gmail working with it.

Gmail wasn't connecting at first, but somehow after I setup my yahoo account in the Email App, I saw a notification from Gmail to allow access. After I allowed, gmail started showing my emails. Gonna leave both email apps running and see if I get alerts for new emails...I have automatic-sync enabled for all accounts.

Seems to be working well for me. I stayed connected for ~4 hours this afternoon on EasyTether. I ran TuneIn Radio over it streaming in the car. Also I connected a set of bluetooth headphones seperately to see that the data connection doesn't interfere with media.
It does, however, prevent use of any apps like Tablet Notifier or Tablet Talk.

I paid the $10 for the full version to get all ports. GMail works great and I stayed connected for over 8 hours before manually disconnecting.
Yes I did get your message. I have to test it further at some point but never use mine as a companion so it's not high on the list.
Battery life is great with Bluetooth being on all day and connected with EasyTether. It looks like I can get at least 10 days on the TS tethering from my phone.
Before Tether (Wifi Only)
Tether over Wifi
Tether over 4G (Samsung Galaxy S3)
Thanks for this app !!
cool, installed both apps without doing the x-posed hack and got internet to work (except for gmail). Didnt install xposed or install the pc program as per the post, maybe i'll do that later

The PC program for EasyTether is for reverse tethering from your phone to your computer.

yeah i was confused about that. So not needed then. Still have to set up the xposed hack so it spoofs wifi while on bt. I assume that is what will get gmail and the rest to work normally. Thanks for the clarification!
When I attempt to use EasyTether, I get an error message saying that the firmware has a bluetooth permissions bug .. contact the manufacturer of the firmware...
I'm running CASUAL w/ security fix.
