I'm a newbie as my description says,
Can I know why while flashing the STOCK ROMs or STOCK kernels we use "flashmode" and for custom kernels we use "fastboot" mode ??
Is it because of the file types or boot program recognizes their(Sony's) kernels or ROMs in flashmode !?

And custom kernels are flashed via "fastboot" can they also be flashed via "flashmode" ??
I'm doubtful as well !

Ok so flashtool uses flashmode to flash sony stock firmwares (kernel and rom) in form of a .ftf (its a zip actually) file. These files are signed with sony keys.
The fastboot tool is used to only flash the bootimage (kernel). If your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash custom kernels without sony signature. If not, you are limited to sonys kernels.

Thats what q&a is for, glad i could help.
I would advise you to take a look at this thread, it is from the xperia s forums but its a nice write up by doomlord from the time when 2012 xperias first came out. These couple of posts (and links) pretty much answer everything...

Want to flash a custom kernel to over clock my mini so also i want to know the highest stable frequency.
2.Is it possible to turn off the light of two soft button ( Menu key & Back key)
In dark this light spreads in the whole screen portion and looks pathetic like a local phone so i would like to turn it off
Check my signature for unlocking bootloader.
For the other question try apps like RootDim.
Thanks,

I did not understans your question properly. But from what I could make out, you were asking if Flashtool can be used for flashing Stock Firmwares on Unlocked bootloaders.
The answer is yes. You can use flashtool to flash Firmwares even if your bootloader is unlocked.
Thanks,
Rick

Yea. Unlock bootloader. Flash the firmware (if you are already not on it). Install your desired kernel using flashtool. And you are done.
To overclock you will need to use apps.
Thanks,
Rick

Like DragonClawsAreSharp said unlock the bootloader, then flash a different kernel, I suggest (for ICS) KRsH Kernel v3.0 (ICS) which can be found here, or Rage Kernel v3.2 (ICS) which can be found here, then you just need to download the appropriate app for overclocking, I suggest the free No-frills CPU Control, which can be found on Google PlayStore or here, hope I helped.

But rootdim is not working
any other app can do that??
To switch off softkeys light, try chosing in rootdim other lights, button-backlight and choose rfkill0.
Then you can save as a shortcut.
Bye.
Okey so im facing the following issue here: I have the FXP v136 9.1 Rom/kernel at the moment but i want to revert it to stock.
however, my backup is gone because my SSD died. sooo, how would i get the stock rom/kernel back? (i could download the 6.1.A.2.45 stock ROM) and flash this through clockwork recovery (not sure how you call it, the fastboot recovery mode)
however, i dont have the kernel (unless its in the 6.1.A.2.45 ROM file)
not sure what i have to do here
just flash stock 2.45 firmware using flastool with flash mode

Well, you could always flash Advanced Stock Kernel and find a stock FTF. You can rename the FTF to zip and extract the kernel and flash it.
Please hit the thanks button if I helped

Better First upgrade to ics. Is your Bootloader unlocked?
Otherwise you will have to use local prop method. Check out my signature there's a rooting guide. In the guide there's how to root 4.1.B.0.431 and there's the Link to DragonClawsAreSharp's great tutorial

If your Bootloader is unlocked you needn't do the procedure in the tutorial, just Flash the ics Firmware ftf via flashtool and Flash a custom ics Kernel, for example rage Kernel for 4.0.4. After that install the custom rom

Just flash it with wipe all, but before do a backup using for example titanium backuü. Wipe all and exclude nothing.
After flashing plug off, let phone turned off, hold volume up and connect to pc, flash a rooted kernel (like I said for example rage kernel for 4.0.4) and boot up. Enable usb debugging and unknown sources and msc mode (not necessary just for sure), push the rom installation zip to sd card and shut down.
Flash the recommend kernel and boot in cwm. See what has to be formatted/wiped and after that install the rom.
Reboot and enjoy

Yes, but .587 isn't released for xperia mini pro and the other devices. Only a few have got the update right now, but if there's a custom rom based on it for your device it should work...

You can't Update until Sony hasn't released it. If your bootloader is Locked you can connect to pc companion and it'll find the Update, but it has to be released First. You will have to wait

Hello guys.
I am new here.
So i have Sony Xperia Neo V and i tried to flash some roms from here.
I did unlock bootloader officially. The easy way.
After that, i managed to flash a kernel via flashtool. Root and CWM installed as well.
I downloaded and flashed a miui rom for neo v, followed instructions (full wipe, cache, dalvik). The result: got stucked on the Sony logo screen.
I waited for like 15 minutes but nothing happened. Then i tried to boot on cwm in order to flash again or flash some other roms but i couldn't. I tried all the combination keys but i was unable to boot on cwm.
After official unlocking BL, seus won't let me update to factory settings.
So i tried to flash other files(custom and official kernels sony provided) with no success. It got stuck on flashtool at ~8% the first time.
After that nothing. Literally. No sony logo, no boot.
I can connect on flash mode (green led) but i can't do anything else.
I strongly believe that my phone is bricked now.
Is there any way to do something to unbrick?
P.S. 1 I tried FOTA unbrick tool but nothing.
P.S. 2 Sorry for my bad grammar.
Thanks in advance
Try to flash the stock ftf using flashtool!
Or else use SEUS!
That can UNbrick your phone!
Or
Flash custom kernel like
Suave, alliance,super stock,etc
Flash kernel like these via fastboot mode, not via flashtool flashmode!
That has cwm inbuilt ....and you can access recovery mode by pressing vol down button repeatedly!

Which miui rom did you choose?
Was it a miui rom that works with stock kernel or a rom that requires a custom kernel?
My mistake was that i was trying on flashmode not fastboot.
So now I flashed Suave kernel and GB rom. It finally booted ))
Now i'm going to be more carefull.
Thanks to you guys.

Rooted the phone...
NOOO CWMMMMM... Used xParts, failed. Used the hard way, failed.
HELP!
on .587 rooted
=========SOLVED===========
Solution: Flash system.sin from the ftf file by extracting it out using 7zip with fastboot mode. Then, flashed any stock kernel for ICS and then successfully able to allow flashtool to see headers.
What does xparts say...
What do u mean by failed??
Sent from my MT11i using xda app-developers app
If you are onn neo v then surely xparts should work.. best, if you have unlocked your bootloader, flash a custom kernel, suave, lupus, etc.. So many of them.. U will get cwm along with it..
Hit thanks if that helped..

You've thrown a 'grenade ' !
You didn't unlock bl!
You didn't flash Jb kernel and you flashed a Jb Rom!
Wow! You've done all things wrong!
Just use flashtool to unbrick and next time! Take time to read the sticky threads!
