So I lost my phone, of course. Left it on the train, bus, somewhere. If I knew where it wouldn't really be lost. But, I just want to know...is there ANY way I can trigger a remote wipe or lock code onto the phone? I don't have an app installed with device administrator unfortunately, it IS rooted, running the Sense 5 port ATM...anyone out there able to save me here?

Gotta call Sprint and report lost/stolen. Then makes the device unusable and I'm pretty sure it wipes the phone if its on or when turned on.

I dont know exactly how it works but it says its for if you have already lost your phone without having lookout on it ...ill go read up again on it
Edit...go to the site it says you can install it to the phone you lost thru thier site
Bionix-V 1.3 w/a Splash of Color
idk how to get it back but you should get a app called "Where's my Droid"
Even if its on silent, you can send it a secret text that you decide, like "wake up dude!" and your phone starts ringing for howmany mins u set it.
Get a metal detector since you do not have "find my droid" loaded on it, the metal detector will help you find it and depending on where you are you can rent one for like 20 bucks for a day.
good luck

Lol, yeah carlcj5, it's funny how some people interpret help. Instead of just being thankful, the stress of their lost phone is getting to them...
As far as the lost phone goes, there is no such thing as a stupid question. I think your pretty much screwed though. Other than getting some people to help you perform some FBI search patterns in your yard, hopefully you had insurance on the phone. Either way, good luck and when you do find your phone or get a replacement, listen to the software/app recommendations of the aforementioned members. It's good information..

This is good and bad of the remote app install via market.android.com - it does not prompt you to confirm install on your phone, it does it automagically.

Is rooting the device the only way to get rid of this? Is there a way without root to disable this?
if you are with sprint, if you read the Sprint TOS that you signed when you got the phone it says that rooting will not void your warranty they just ask that u put it back to stock when upgrading or having service done to it. Who has ever went to upgrade their phone and the rep put it in to download mode to check something like that? And when I had my s2 rooted and needed service on the ear piece I just left cm 10 and all my stuff just the way it was and they never said anything to me about it.

I forgot to move my rooted tether app from my home screen and took it for service. The rep looked down, looked up at me, and went to a different screen to work from. Classic.
yeah, when I went to Sprint to have my last phone looked at, the rep asked me point blank if the phone was rooted -- but it was not in an accusatory way, it was more a "I need to know for the purposes of what I'm doing." Did not get the sense from the way she asked that it would have made a bit of difference to her in terms of whether they would still work on the phone.
As an aside, does anyone know what exactly could be causing the alert? It popped up when I was logged onto an airport wifi network, which gives me some concern.

1. its rooted and keeps telling me I need to update. I turned the setting off for checking for updates but its really annoying to keep getting this pop up. Is there a way to stop the phone from telling me this?
2. Now that I am rooted is there a way to install the new updates with out loosing root or tripping knox?
3. Since im rooted is there a way to get google wallet working?
4. How in the world did I put up with the evo lte so long?

You may want to see if someone has a deoxidezed stock rom or switch to a AOSP rom. AOSP don't have update notifications. The uploaded stock based roms usually have it the notification removed or disabled.

Not really. Doing any OTA updates always runs the risks of loosing root. You can try using something like Voodoo Root Keeper, but not guaranteed to work. SuperSuperUser has some functionaltiy to try to save root. I think TWRP may it as well. Like the rest or the root keeping tools, none of it is guaranteed to work. In my experience though, they have saved my rear a couple times, on a different phone.
Best policy, just wait a day or two for someone to upload the updated stock rom that has root. Plus, in that time, you'll find out if the update is FUBAR'd or breaks any of your favorite apps.

I'm the "Ditto" and the "And how", not the OP, but I share his pain.
I wasn't trying to imply you didn't know better. I was more answering how the OP possiblely was ignorance about the Note 3, although not the greatest answer.
I'm still on the Note 2. But going from the Evo 4G to Note 2 was a new world open up to me. That may be par for the course when you go from a two year or more old phone to a new flagship. Not that aren't differences now, the hassle or breaking my contract and costs for benefits of upgrading didn't seem worth it. Plus, maybe, if I'm luckly, the Note 4 will be a 6" screen and have the triband to take advantage of Sprint's Spark's network compatibles.
That said, it's can be challeng keeping up with all the new tech on phones. And with that, there is always something better around the corner. I just know I was elided when Sprint got the Note II since I wanted the original Note and the first Dell Streak (5" smartphone). I've bought into the Kool Aid called the phablets and don't see me going anywhere.

I didn't have the horrible previous phone. My situation, I knew my phone had just become dated. I was running three different roms through boot manager, which I needed to switch roms depending on what I needing to do. I have feeling I may not be quite as bad with the Note 2 in a year, but I think it'll be showing it's age by then.
But going to the Note 2, I had the same feeling. It was a breathe of fresh air. Like the tech heavens had reopened. I'm just hoping there is nice leap in hardware from the Note 2 to Note 4. I see the it more it just being a minor upgrade to the Note 3. Kind of like what Apple was doing with iPhone and the S variants.
Thanks guys! I did get it rooted with root-de-la-vega and I am knox 0x0. I also got the notification to go away by freezing the "update service" with TB. Im not sure I want to update at all now, this is seriously the most solid phone I have had in a long time and it works flawlessly the way it is. I cant see any reason to update at all. to be honest im not sure how to tell what version im on now with a Samsung phone lol.
As for the evo, I was not a bad phone, it was pretty good at the time, it is not note close to the excrescence this phone gives you! I will say HTC does make a better "feeling" phone, but I could care less! I want it to run like a beast!!!!!! Plus I put all my phones in cases on day one so what it feels like only matters for a few minutes lol .

Glad you're set. I really hated my Evo, but I had the original Evo also, and Evo 2 couldn't compare so it left me grumbling. Very true about the feel. The Evo feels more substantial to me, but like you I'd rather have the beast (case goes on all my devices day one, too). :good:

Hello my fellow people,
I am warning the people who may not know what VZW does on calls. So I called support because I am having an issue with my charging port. Simply just need it replaced so I can properly charge my phone and connect it to my PC without it randomly disconnecting. So I call them and go to tier 2 to explain my problem. I do and the representative ask me to give them a quick second to see what the issue may be. I wait for about 30 seconds and to make a long story short, their diagnostic tool found my device to be rooted, so there was nothing they would do. So yes, when you call in with a problem, software or hardware, they do a diagnostic test to see if the device has been rooted. So I had to call back several times to get a representative who would not see the previous test done, and run a new one while I was unrooted. So now my account is clean but with a major headache. So XDAers, DO NOT CALL VZW FOR SUPPRT WHILE ROOTED. I WAS GOING TO BEFORE I SENT IN THE PHONE BUT THAT DOESNT WORK. UNROOT AND BE STOCK BEFORE CALLING. Hope this little story helped.
Update: Yes, they run the tool without permission from the user

Yep. I did and they retested. I'm just wondering how they can do it without customer permission.
I would have asked them to explain how they think a physical part of the phone would be damaged from a software aspect of the phone. The onus is on them to prove it.
Edit: I always call from another phone and make sure the phone I'm calling about is in airplane mode so there is no chance for them to connect to it just to be safe anyways.

The my Verizon app asks for root access if you have Superuser installed and requests pop up. I've seen it myself once and wondered..... If I didn't have an app to notify me, would it have given that app root access silently? I bet it does.

ISIS app that comes bloated on the N900V also asks for superuser access. It also will not run on a rooted device. I'm betting if It wasn't rooted it would also have gotten access silently as does my Verizon app.
I thought it was common knowledge that, if you're rooted, you disable data/wifi when you're calling into VZW support. They can't connect to their little spy-app if there's no internet service. I've called into support and they've tried, unsuccessfully, to connect to mine.

I don't think so, I didn't have it installed. And I have denied root before on other phones. Also I can't use the exposed module because they can check your installs on your phone.
Towel root
So I just got a new refurb from Verizon/Assurion and found something interesting. One of the first apks I installed was the CM Virus Protection and scanned my phone. My phone is not rooted stock everything. CM scanned my phone and found a suspicious system exploit however though... Towelroot! I guess reseting the phone factory and even from Assurion somehow the previous owner had root, and parts of it somehow sustained. Weird that they would send out a phone like this if a simple virus scanner picked it right up on first try. Just thought id throw that out there.
I wish I would have seen this earlier. 10 calls in for reception, normally airplane mode and I forgot, bam. "Take it to the Samsung booth in best buy they can read flash the phone".....odin ain't helping this problem. Lmao
I just disable the my verizon app on all my phones so I never have this issue.

To be honest it would t matter either way. You could flash it but the min they check the esn and it's not in their system then it will be a fight.
When I last worked for Verizon we were trained on what to look for and to flat out deny any device not in their system.
I would flash it first but like said it won't matter much either way.
