[Q] Problem with the baseband - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to everyone! I received as present an LG Optimus Sol (E730). I changed some roms and now I've got the stock SOL LX by poogie with Kernel with sweep2wake,BLN,GPU OC etc by xpaum. Since I put the first rom I always had problems with GPS signal. I tryed all the possible ways to fix it (APGS patch, modified gps.conf file in different ways, ecc...) but it's still not working good. I mean, using "gps test" after 10 min it can get 3 satellites but if I use google maps it is always on searching for gps signal. I come from Italy and the original firmware was the v10b brand vodafone. Now I have the v10b no brand. Are they the same? Because I guess the problem is related with the baseband and I don't want to come back to a vodafone brand version but I want my gps back!! What can I do? Any suggestion? Thank you in advance...cheers!

USA firmware?

I recently Bought my S5830. It Originally came from a carrier named IMMEX, which is a small startup wireless provider in Pennsylvania, USA.
It was unlocked, and worked well with my At&t SIM card. It originally had 2.2.1 on it, and unfortunately that is all I remember.
I wanted to overclock it and long story short, I flashed as many roms as I could in a 24 hour period without backing up my original Firmware.
I am currently using gingerreal, and it works better than any other firmware I have found., I get a quadrant score of 1950 and I'm happy with that, except there are a lot of bugs. Wifi barely works, I can't install any apps without the phone rebooting, and I can't connect to HDSPA.
I checked at Samfirmware, but they have no usa region firmwares that I could find. I can only assume that this phone never had a major release in the USA.
Does this mean that I am screwed, or is there a firmware that is similar enough to my region that i can restore full functionality to my device?
Also; I am sorry if this is in the wrong forum. The general Forum description says for Q&A, but the tick box below this text frame tells me I am breaking forum rules by posting this here.
i think why don't you flash European or asian firmwares ?? if you want stock then you can use them there is really no difference ... just some are more stable
Well, that is a simple fix. Thank you VERY much. Downloading now, as soon as hotfile will let me, I'll update the thread with the results.
Hey, I tried several different firmwares from asia and europe, and I still have connectivity issues, with both Wifi and 3g. With any of these, I can't make outgoing calls either.
Any new Ideas?
try flash different modem and see any of them solve ur problem. see thread in development subforum

No signal for Vodafone India (Defy+ 2.3.6)

Hi Everyone,
I am facing really weird issue with my Motorola Defy+ having Android 2.3.6
I had Android 2.3.4 installed on my defy+ which came with factory packing. Last week I was playing around with my cell with romtoolbox pro and broke something and found the "infamous" error which made me stuck on bootlogo. So I had to flash. So I flashed it (using RSD lite) with sbf DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_BLUR_SIGN_USADEFYEMARAB1B8RTGB005.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNGIBRRTGB_P023_A025_M002_Service1FF.sbf
It worked like a charm. Now only but major problem I'm facing is that I'm just not able to get a signal for my sim which is Vodafone India. When I insert other sim like Airtel, it works pretty well. After going through so many threads, posts, comments, hints, I just couldn't fix this issue. So can anyone of you please get this n00b out of this problem?
I'm really frustrated at the moment
I wanna use Baseband switcher, but I can't cause it's not possible to use without root!! And as we know Android 2.3.6 defy+ is "Unrootable".
I also tried to switch back to 2.3.4 but it was all in vain.
No success!! Just no success!!
I tried other sbf files such as DFP-1321, DFP-139, DFP-2311, DFP-2312, etc etc.
If it is Android 2.3.6 then I don't find any signal for my Vodafone India ****.
If it is Android 2.3.4 then I'm just not able to flash it. All I get it is black screen.
I apologize, if my post it too long. I hope I made my problem and myself clear in it. Please help me!
Edit: Mods, please modify the thread title as I failed to add [Q] in it at the beginning.

New baseband versions. Does sub-version matter?

I've been happily flashing roms on xda for months now a few were glitchy (not always the bugs mentioned).
My phone is. P500h from Koodomobile (owned by Telus) and last November's update to 2.3.3 included baseband update to their v20a. I see that most roms are v20g or above now. I still use my carrier's baseband, regardless.
Only a handful of 2.3.3-based roms recognize the carrier as koodo and default to telus. I have to manually enter the apn most times to get data and mms to work.
Would updating to v20g (or i) be a good idea? Or am I best off using Koodo's version?
I am surprised this hasn't been asked before.

I think you should flash a V20G stock rom from lg to update yout baseband to v20g, or only upgrade your baseband with LGMP and verify if it works
The koodo's version only bring you some apps from this operator
I am not concerned about the stock rom version. LG includes too much crap and the battery has never impressed me.
I am more concerned what an upgrade of baseband would do to the radio in regards to my carrier. I've been running CM-based roms and I like them.

Flashing a V20g with kdz is the easier and safer way to upgrade your baseband, after upgrade your baseband you return to cm
No, your baseband is fine (any V20x works).
Your problem is just that CyanogenMod doesn't include the APNs for your particular carrier, despite the fact it has a huge (I mean HUGE) list of pre-recorded APNs for carriers all around the world.
But you can easily set up your APN with this app, if you don't like to put it manually (I wouldn't like it too):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tweakker
(It worked for another canadian fellow in a similar situation)
I thought so but had to have a confirmation that I wasn't complicating anything.
That app is a nice find. I'd already used apn backup and restore to save to keep what I had manually entered.

[Q] Should I change baseband ??

I've got bad reception. At home sometimes no bars, no reception, or sometimes 1-2 bars. If I get to a window I get 2 bars tops.
Outside it sometimes disconnects and I have to reboot.
Drives me nuts.
I have another older smartphone at home that's 3g - same carrier - full reception.
In Neo V Battery life is bad. At "about phone" I see it changing all the time, I didn't have the chance to check outside, but due the constant disconnections outside I figure it's also changing.
Is changing the baseband the way to go?
The original BB was 4.1.B.0.587 baseband (77)
Now it appears as 8x55a-aaabqoazm-203028g-77 (under "about phone")
I'm running CM10 nightlies
If I put the wrong baseband can it brick the phone?
Should I flash 4.1.B.0.587 baseband (77) on cm10 (JB)?
Any better baseband than 77 (I'm Israeli on a 850/2100 network)?
Lots of question, you don't have to answer all, any help would be greatly appreciated.

As u say it appears on 77 in about phone, its already on 77 baseband of .587 firmware.. I don't know whether you have got the update of .13 firmware in your place but as far as i know, there isn't any ftf file available for .13 firmware.. The new firmware comes with a new baseband too.. So till then 77 is latest.. just give it a check though.. I told you whatever i knew..

@veepe:
Try different SIM Cards if they give you full reception, it maybe the problem with your SIM Card.
If this doesn't work,
Try reinstalling everything from the scratch. First, Flash ICS .ftf using Flashtool & start your phone.
Check if you have proper network.
If there is proper network, then flash kernel from CM10 zip, Install ROM via Recovery, Then check your network.
Now if the problem occurs, it means the problem is with the CM10 ROM. Then you'll have to wait until it's fixed & stay on stock ROM or try other ROMs...

well, i tried everything - all basebands, flashed different stock firmwares with original kernels for both mt11i and mt11a (mine) - no improvement.
It's definitely something in the phone, the sim works great in another phone. Tried 3 diff sims in the problematic phone.
I'm thinking it maybe related to a water damage I had a few months ago. I went to a lab right after that for a preventive treatment, maybe something's wrong with the hardware.
If changing softwares isn't working, there is a high chance that this is a hardware problem. You should get it repaired then...
Good Luck!
