Download issues - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I don't know if yall have noticed this but most time I try to download a Rom or a large file it fails any ideas

Are you low on storage?

No my sd card is practically empty as is the storage on the device. I don't have internet at my house and salt lake city still doesn't have LTE so its just 3g

Could just be the 3g connection is to slow and it times out. Go get a BigMac and use their wifi

Would it work better if I turned on my hotspot and used my computer or not so much
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app

Your hotspot will still only give you 3g, run down to McDonalds or starbucks and use the wifi there

I've noticed similar issues when trying to download large files (like ROM's) over WiFi at home. Not usually an issue but it happens every so often. Never an issue using my laptop, though.

Does anyone else get variable download speeds from the play store? Most of the time I get 3-4 mb/s but sometimes it drops to only 2-300 kb/s...it happens on both my 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz networks (same router). Just curious if that's typical behavior for the play store or if it's my wifi being fickle on aosp.
Sorry to hijack the thread, been wondering for a while but since it's not a huge deal I didn't want to start a new one.

WiFi only downloads...

Ok, here is my problem. Where I live I have absolutely no WiFi like anywhere near me... I tried last night going outside and the only connection I found was weak and extremely slow. I am saturated in 4G though... Which happens to be faster than WiFi... I have a few of the new gameloft games... But they require wifi... Is there a hack or mod or something to spoof it into thinking WiFi is connected so it'll accept the download over 4G? Please help

Is this phone actually faster than the 4g?

Hello, I just got a new evil 3d becuase of the dual core processor because I thought that the internet would be faster. Is there a configuration needed? With my 4 g my speeds are in the 400 and now with the 3d "dual core" processor I'm in the 200's

The processor has little to do with internet speeds. It helps, making things more responsive, but the signal effects the data speed. And the antenna on the 3D are at the bottom near where you'd hold the phone which could degrade the signal.
Is the phone faster than the 4G? Yes. Does that mean you'll get faster data? Not necessarily.

You'll return it in a week, once you see how slow 3g is with sprint.
IF your lucky, you might get 100k up / down, but typically, only 25k

This is dependant on location. I'm not doubting you are experiencing slow network speeds, but it's purely a matter of tower saturation, and your surroundings. I'm consistantly seeing downloads in the range of 1.0-1.7 mbs. Sometimes, at night, I can break 2.0 mbs, but that's because there isn't much activity. But, I'm in a major metropolitan area, with strong network coverage from the major 4 carriers. There was a blip for about 8 months where the speeds were really slow, but Sprint fixed the tower by my house, and now I'm back to normal.
And, to the OP, I didn't notice any difference in download speed between my Evo 4G, and Evo 3D.

exactly it all matters were u are with any network. ive been with sprint forever and ive always seen consistent 3g speeds in my hometown ranging from .8-1.7mbps recently ive moved from the east coast to the west coast and im still seeing great speeds but not the same around .5-1.0 which still works and i somehow managed to move from the best 4g city to another great 4g city haha always see speeds of 5-12mbps

The Airave doesn't provide 4G Signals. It does however provide 3G Data Connection which is usually faster than what you'd get from a Sprint Tower. Also Depends on your internet connection that you'd be hooking the Airave up to.
I just hooked up the airave and I went from 0.2 to 1.3 . It's bad assets. I recommend everybody call Sprint and get it. It's freeeeee.

My evo 4G is actually a lot better about picking up a 4G signal, but the speeds are about the same with both. The 3G and 4G antenna are still on top with the 3D but the wifi and Bluetooth are indeed on the bottom of the phone.
If you're not getting at least 600kbps on 3G call sprint and let them know. That's the minimum speed they advertise do usually they'll credit your account for it.

Sprint Airave and 4G LTE connected

So I have a tower that was updated with LTE and before I couldn't get any service. After realizing I had 4G now by my house, I realized as well that my Airave was disconnected and when I reconnected it, it seemed my phone would switch back to 3G, however some how I am now getting great signal and still connected to LTE while connected to my Airave as you can see in the pic. I guess I will be calling sprint and canceling the return package for the Airave! The green is my airave and the red is the newly launched LTE tower.

Anyone know why mine constantly switches from 3 different towers every 30 seconds or so. The closest Tower to me does have LTE but it never stays on that tower and that's the tower I get the best reception from bout 3 or 4 bars then I'll lose it all in seconds. Don't understand why. We just got a few lte towers up so I don't know if network Vision project is affecting it. I've never had good reception at my house so seeing 4 bars is nice, just wish it would stay

Is the little blue tower thingy an icon for a Sprint tower or an airave? I have a blue tower thingy RIGHT next to my apartment and I have always had awful signal. (2 bars maximum, no bars / roaming minimum. Most of the time I'm at no bars)
Could the little blue icon mean there is an airave nearby?
Does anyone know what the adress that pops up when you first open up the app is

Uhh not sure what you mean. The green triangle in the original post is my airave and the red triangle indicates the tower that is close to me. And yes so lucky to have a tower that damn close. I remember looking at where towers were going to be and remember seeing one close to my house, but didn't think it would literally be in my backyard...I drove around it to see if I could see an actual tower and I guess its not too high so my guess is it may just be like a station or something..But this airave and LTE is awesome, I been getting 3-5 bars all the time and anywhere from 3-12 mbps LTE

There is an affect called the umbrella affect. When you live to close to a tower you get similar behavior as if you were distant from tower. So it will connect and drop that tower constantly. So in umbrella situation if you stood right next to tower you couldn't connect to it but once you reach a certain distance from tower signal picks up.

That's beyond the point. As you can see I have no complaints lol. I am enough close as I should be and not distant and pick up lte signal, signal many are wishing they had and with a device (Airave) that should only pick up 3g data and voice. I agree with you on the umbrella effect however that is not the issue here by any means. I guess you could say I'm right where I need to be

[q] verizon throttleing data!!??

People I would really appreciate your feedback on this, during the past 3 weeks I have noticed that my download speeds had been drastically slow even when I have 4G and speed test coming back on results over 4MB download per second I see this is mostly during some times of the day, late at night it is fine, as an example when I tried to download an app from the market or as well when I'm using my phone as a hot spot it takes over a minute to download 2 MB of data. I have unlimited data and my friend my cousin and his wife are having the same issue, I was having it on my S3 now on my S4, my friend and cousin on their Note 2 and my cousins wife on her iphone 5 we all have unlimited data and now we are wondering if verizon is playing a dirty trick on us.... does anybody here are seeing this problem? are you unlimited or limited? I have called Verizon and they say they are only throttling 3G, not on 4G I already did their stupid apps deletes and resets factory resets etc etc, and I don't want to root my S4 yet in case they blame it on the phone and want me to exchange it.
Thanks,
A worried data devourer
I've got unlimited and use about 50gb-200gb a month. No throttling. Chicago.

I am also having this problem, especially when I download apps in the market. I never had any problems with my S3. I wonder if it is due to the new NFC SIM. I am going to verizon and asking them for the regular sim and see if it solves the problem. I really hope it is not the phone. Also I used to get full 4G signal at home, now I get only 4 bars, it even drops to 3 sometimes.
I don't know what an nfc sim is but I'm running the s4 using the same sim card i had in my galaxy nexus since it first came out. So if that's not an nfc sim...

I noticed the speed fluctuations when the Google play store started with the new updates. It would be with various apps updating and it would be on the network and it was also affecting speeds while on WiFi. It would take 5 min to download a 2 MB file that should only take a few seconds. I do not think the throttle is through the carrier but it may be on the google servers depending on which one you are connected to. I noticed recently that it has gotten better but there could be maintenance going on that is slowing down services and also with the weather around the country there could by bypasses going on that can affect downloads. Just my guess.
Just popped my sim into the galaxy nexus still experienced slower speeds. Maybe the weather or some other factor is at play

It might just be your location. If anyone in the range of the cell tower your phone is connected to is using a lot of bandwidth or it is heavily populated with 4G users, you will feel the effects of it. Have you replicated it in a completely different area that's less populated and is greater than 5 miles away?

My best guess, is what @w7excursion said. Your sim card has not been programmed for your account. Your best bet, would be to take it to Sprint store, that is also a repair facility. You may have to go to more than one, until you find someone competent enough to handle it.

You're not the only one with useless data speeds. I'm happy on days when LTE speeds reach 1Mbps, here in the Houston area.
