Just got my HTC DNA (HTC Deluxe 6435) last Friday and I love it so far. I'm currently on a regional carrier Cellcom with shared 4G LTE services with Verizon. Only issue I'm running into is the 4G LTE and 3G transition when in a low signal area. When in the main part of the city I'll keep 4G at all times with no issues but when I go home is when it starts to annoy me. When upstairs I can keep my 4G signal but when I go to the basement it will go to 3G at <20% signal, which is to be expected. When I go back upstairs, which I know has an adequate 4G signal, my phone will not transition back to 4G until 1.) I'm in a very strong 4G coverage area >50% signal for at least 10-15 mins or 2.) by doing the airplane mode trick to refresh the signal. If my signal is above 25% it will always pick up the 4G with the airplane mode trick. It's not a huge issue at my house since I have WiFi, but what bothers me is when I'm on the highway streaming I'll keep 4G for a bit, but if it transitions to 3G it wont come back for some time when the whole highway is supposedly strong 4G coverage.
I've tried doing my own research for a possible fix but it seems to be isolated to specific devices and carriers with issues. One interesting article was the Sprint Wimax EVO 4G fix where you could dial the ##3282# number and log into the EPST to change the 4G rescan time interval, but these options are non existent when I log into my EPST. I was wondering if there was a similar setting that I would be able to change the 4G signal search options with my DNA or if it's something that is only based on my carriers SIM card programming.
Let me know what you guys think
Thanks in advance

I have noticed that my phone seems to prefer 3G data to 4G where I live. (I'm in the Stow, OH area for those curious)
At first I thought I simply didn't pick 4G up at my house because I've never had the strongest 3G signal here either. But if I go into the Phone Info and switch the radio to "LTE mode", it switches to 4G no problem.
For some confirmation that the software wasn't being glitchy, I did a speed test and got ~5mbit down (like I said, I may not have the best 4G coverage... I get upwards of 18mbit when I'm in the Akron area). And for additional confirmation, I placed a call and was also able to simultaneously surf and do another 5mbit speed test. So it is definitely connected to 4G.
For more experimentation, I switched it back to the usual "CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto". The icon switched to the 3G symbol. I then tried placing a call, and I was able to simultaneously use data, but it was clearly 3G speed. So it seems it used the 4G radio for the call, but the 3G radio for the data (weird).
So, I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed it this kind of behavior? Perhaps in the fringe coverage areas this will be most noticeable.
My phone dose this too. I think its poor 4g service and stuff. Im sure it will inrpove eventually
Interesting...
Now I put it on the "CDMA Auto (PRL)" option. speed test indicates 3G speeds. But then I place a call, and the call AND data are both working-- at 3G speeds. So maybe this was what was happening on the CDMA + LTE mode I selected before.
It appears Verizon has some sort of simultaneous 3G technology now?? I wasn't aware of this-- certainly about time, though.
But my initial conclusion does seem to be true-- it's preferring the 3G coverage to the 4G coverage. Perhaps this is a battery life decision. Or something else completely weird is going on.
Either way, I'm plenty happy with the phone.
I've been having this problem probably once a day since I've gotten the phone where my phone will lose data signal while switching between 3G and LTE and the only way to get data back is to restart the phone. Turning airplane mode on and off won't work either.
Ive had that issue too..but most of the time it switches back n forth no problem

I haven't noticed any data problems until today. I am unable to connect to 3G. We do not have 4G in my area.
These problems are probably bugs in the LTE System.

why should bugs in the LTE system affect 3G?
the 3G our phones use is not exactly the same as standard 3G unless you force your phone into EVDO 3G via the ##778 menu. which if you are not in a 4g zone I would recommend simply for stability. The 3G our phones use is basically a layer between 3G and LTE as I've had it explained to me.. I really don't know much else about it though, sorry. I'm sure someone else here can shine more light on it however.

oh that's really interesting. thanks for that little bit of info. had no idea.
Same problem with it dropping data signal and never coming back without restart. At least now i know its not a hardware issue
I've had the same problem lately

damn.. i was actually hoping this was a small problem with a simple solution... everything else about the phone is perfect except for this one problem.
Having the same issue here....when switching to cdma I get no 3G just 1X.....hope they find a fix soon

same here guys. call Verizon and let them know. I think it helps if a bunch of us make them aware.
I've had a ton of weird data issues with the Rezound. I get 1x where i should get 3g, i get 3g where i should get 4g and i get nothing way too often.
I've only had this happen once with the rezound. Shows nothing but bars, no data can be used. Sometimes switching to 3g or 4g in lte on/off helps.
Had this problem intermittently on both my wife's and my bolts, completely agree its just a lte being a new tech issue.
I've listened to a podcast on how the handoff works and its definitely not fool proof.

Im in Lawton Oklahoma and I'm not gonna c 4G till 2013 and I'll be pcs before that.
Now I access the ##778 menu in edit mode and what do I do to force EVDO 3G?

phone will reboot and you should get 3G back
This changes your network from eHRPD back to EVDO Rev.A. For LTE phone owners, eHRPD causes 3G to die (most of the time anyway) when the LTE network has problems. Get back on normal EVDO and you're good to go.
^ from Jntdroid on another forum (not sure if we're allowed to post to other forums here) I'm not positive on where he got it from, but this is a capability of all HTC 4G phones
I've had occasional issues with being down to 1X, but even that was only during nationwide 4G network issues, definitely get in touch with VZW about that... not that they have enough sense to fix anything *sigh*
Data Connection slow to Acquire (3G/LTE)
If I'm on the subway, or somewhere with no service, then come above ground, I get voice (full bars) but no data -- it could take upwards of 3 minutes+ for data to come back up. Any thoughts?
I've been losing my 3G service throughout my city, being restricted to 1x so many times lately where I SHOULD be getting 3G!(4G isnt available in my area yet). It's really annoying...perhaps nexus isnt theeee only one...
^should I try calling and programing what the user implied? Again, I am not in a 4G area...

Same issue as you. I live in a 3G area only and my 3G drops out a lot. Even a reboot doesn't get it back. Not sure what to do :/
I recently upgraded from the Incredible to the Rezound and find that when 4G not available, the signal drops down to 1X. Not only that, it seems to stay in 1X even when 4G is available. How can I get the phone to drop to 3G when 4G not available? The Incredible ran in 3G in the same areas that the Rezound drops to 1X. What do I have to set to get it into 3G?
Thanks for help.
both my GF and I have been having trouble with this on both our phones... We both live and work in 4G coverage, pretty strong coverage too. Yet we both see 4g drop out to 3g or 1x. Its very random, and I've had it happen right in the middle of browsing the web. (All of a sudden a page takes forever to load or doesnt and the phone acts like it has no data connection, I go to the home screen and see that I am all of a sudden on 1x..)
I recently read an article that talked about how VZW actually has a pretty major issue they need to resolve pertaining to authentication on the LTE network. I don't know the exact mechanics of it, but basically the authentication fails and you get booted off the LTE network until the phone tries to hop on it again. Right now, the two phones I have personal experiance with do not try very often to get back on and it often takes going into the wireless settings page and selecting mobile networks and going in and out of that screen a couple times, or if it is being stubborn, airplane mode, site for a minute, and then back on. Occasionally I have to reboot the phone.
It really irritated me good last night when I really needed the data connection for GPS navigation because I took a wrong turn in an unfamiliar area..
Sometimes going in and out of airplane mode helps or restart.
I'm not going to say look on the forums. Here is a quote from another thread and linked another thread.
had the same issue and fixed by this.

Same issue here. Only happens when I go from a 4G area to a 3G area. I end up getting stuck in 1x. The phone switches fine from 3G to 4G. But when going back to a 3G only area, it by-passes 3G and I get 1x.
No toggling helps. I have to reboot to get 3G back. I also tried that fix posted above. It does not help. Called verizon again tonight.
The strange part is before we had that 4G outage a few months ago, the phone would switch just fine. Now it's a pain in the ass.
Sorry it isn't helping. It worked in mine and done exactly the way it told me. Go from 3-4g now without an issue. No 1x like before

First of all, I live in a suburb of Dallas which is completely covered in LTE according to Sprint's coverage map and I can affirm this by Sensorly and my own personal usage of my phone when I see 4G LTE in many places. However, lately I have noticed on the bottom floor of my house I usually get 1X or 3G, whereas upstairs I get 4G quite nicely. In other houses nearby (less than 1 mile), my phone doesn't even get data many times (and if it does, it is 1X) whereas other Sprint iPhone 5's are enjoying LTE in the same location.
Now I know our phone's have connection issues, but why am I not even getting 3G? Is there anyway to help force my phone to try and get more 4G signal because I know for a fact Dallas has pretty decent 4G coverage? When my phone goes into 1X it also seems to be sucking up quite a bit of battery. Any help is appreciated!
I am running MeanBean 3.09, S-ON, with the newest Bulletproof Kernel.

MeanBean has the Roam only option baked in, just go to settings - mobile network and set it up... The battery drain is "normal" when the phone doesn't have a good signal... Roam or use wifi... I know it doesn't make sense but that's the now network...

I'm at my wits end and am hoping someone could have an answer for my problem. My home's in the L.A./O.C. area and the local towers were recently upgraded. This has made my phone use ERHPD (I believe that the upgrade is only a software overlay) since 4G was not upgraded. Basically I'm in a 3G/1x speed zone. I'm stock 4.4.2 and towel rooted with roam control. If I go out into the street and force roam to Verizon's network, I'll get 4 to 6gb download speed. On Sprints network, I'm stuck on 3G with 0.20 dl speed. When I force to Verizon's network, (goes to 4G) and then switch back to Sprint, my Sprint speed will be on 4g (with 1/2 the dl speed of Verizon). I tested both networks by streaming a movie and no buffering with Verizon and just a little buffering while on Sprint 4g. Once I walk into the house my phone drops to 3g again and 50% of the time will time out when trying to speed test or Google anything. Go out into the street get slow 3g. Force roan to Verizon and back to 4g. Once on Verizon 4g I can turn off roam and Sprint will be at 4g then (but a slower speed than Verizon). This is an improvement over the consumer prl that was on the phone originally. I'm using 2 different corp. prls for sprint which allows me to get the above stated speeds. Consumer prl sucked big time. I'm wondering if flashing a Verizon radio to my N3 would allow me to pick up the 4g signal that Verizon phones are getting good speed with and or change over to a Verizon prl?
Another test/example done today while in the San Bernardino mountains.
Standing next to my neighbor who has Verizon NOTE3 and is getting 4g. Speed test showing 4mb upload. My Sprint Note3 download speed 0.13. Tried it with 2 corp. and 1 stock prl.
Is this a junky radio on SPRINT or do I need to use a custom Verizon PRL to get and maintain 4G on my Sprint Note 3? Could the speed connectivity issue be solved with a radio change? Maybe a Verizon radio?
Any help/direction is greatly appreciated,
I know speed and connectivity are a big issue with Sprint in a lot of areas right now and maybe the answers will be able to help the dozens of people I've seen looking for answers.

You could try and change the radio to Verizon, but I think that would conflict with the Sprint version of the OS you have in the device. Then what happens when you are in an area that the roles are reversed, and Sprint has the dominant tower ? Do you have a different internet connection in the house that you can pull WiFi from ? A friend of mine had a similar problem the house was a dead zone. So she complained to Sprint and they gave her a router that produces a WiFi signal for internet and provides a signal for phone calls for her old Sprint EVO 4G. This way she never has to manually have to switch her device connections when leaving home for work. Don't know if this will help in your case, but might be worth a try.

Sprint gave me an Air Wave which I use at my work since it's in a dead zone also and I need cell signal to do my job.
Because I have one already, Sprint won't give me another one for use at my house. There's no internet or wifi at the mountain cabin. Only signal available there is cell if you're on the right provider. Thanks for the suggestion. I was thinking of flashing to a Verizon radio when I go to the mountains and re-flash it back to Sprint after I return. I'd have to do this every weekend and am not sure if it would get me kicked off of Sprint for roaming to much on Verizon. I'm also unsure if flashing the radio would actually give me good Verizon signals, and unsure if Sprint could be able to tell if I was using a different radio.
Update,
After researching some more I tried going to airplane mode for 30 seconds and back. This has my phone connecting to 4g when outside the house. Once I walk inside the signal fades and it goes to 3g in the house. Not needing to roam on Verizon to make it go into 4g. 3g data is only .03mb in the house when I can get the speed test to connect. Still no useable data speed in the mountains.
