[Q] 4G/3G Connectivity and Speed Issues - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I'm at my wits end and am hoping someone could have an answer for my problem. My home's in the L.A./O.C. area and the local towers were recently upgraded. This has made my phone use ERHPD (I believe that the upgrade is only a software overlay) since 4G was not upgraded. Basically I'm in a 3G/1x speed zone. I'm stock 4.4.2 and towel rooted with roam control. If I go out into the street and force roam to Verizon's network, I'll get 4 to 6gb download speed. On Sprints network, I'm stuck on 3G with 0.20 dl speed. When I force to Verizon's network, (goes to 4G) and then switch back to Sprint, my Sprint speed will be on 4g (with 1/2 the dl speed of Verizon). I tested both networks by streaming a movie and no buffering with Verizon and just a little buffering while on Sprint 4g. Once I walk into the house my phone drops to 3g again and 50% of the time will time out when trying to speed test or Google anything. Go out into the street get slow 3g. Force roan to Verizon and back to 4g. Once on Verizon 4g I can turn off roam and Sprint will be at 4g then (but a slower speed than Verizon). This is an improvement over the consumer prl that was on the phone originally. I'm using 2 different corp. prls for sprint which allows me to get the above stated speeds. Consumer prl sucked big time. I'm wondering if flashing a Verizon radio to my N3 would allow me to pick up the 4g signal that Verizon phones are getting good speed with and or change over to a Verizon prl?
Another test/example done today while in the San Bernardino mountains.
Standing next to my neighbor who has Verizon NOTE3 and is getting 4g. Speed test showing 4mb upload. My Sprint Note3 download speed 0.13. Tried it with 2 corp. and 1 stock prl.
Is this a junky radio on SPRINT or do I need to use a custom Verizon PRL to get and maintain 4G on my Sprint Note 3? Could the speed connectivity issue be solved with a radio change? Maybe a Verizon radio?
Any help/direction is greatly appreciated,
I know speed and connectivity are a big issue with Sprint in a lot of areas right now and maybe the answers will be able to help the dozens of people I've seen looking for answers.

You could try and change the radio to Verizon, but I think that would conflict with the Sprint version of the OS you have in the device. Then what happens when you are in an area that the roles are reversed, and Sprint has the dominant tower ? Do you have a different internet connection in the house that you can pull WiFi from ? A friend of mine had a similar problem the house was a dead zone. So she complained to Sprint and they gave her a router that produces a WiFi signal for internet and provides a signal for phone calls for her old Sprint EVO 4G. This way she never has to manually have to switch her device connections when leaving home for work. Don't know if this will help in your case, but might be worth a try.

Sprint gave me an Air Wave which I use at my work since it's in a dead zone also and I need cell signal to do my job.
Because I have one already, Sprint won't give me another one for use at my house. There's no internet or wifi at the mountain cabin. Only signal available there is cell if you're on the right provider. Thanks for the suggestion. I was thinking of flashing to a Verizon radio when I go to the mountains and re-flash it back to Sprint after I return. I'd have to do this every weekend and am not sure if it would get me kicked off of Sprint for roaming to much on Verizon. I'm also unsure if flashing the radio would actually give me good Verizon signals, and unsure if Sprint could be able to tell if I was using a different radio.

Update,
After researching some more I tried going to airplane mode for 30 seconds and back. This has my phone connecting to 4g when outside the house. Once I walk inside the signal fades and it goes to 3g in the house. Not needing to roam on Verizon to make it go into 4g. 3g data is only .03mb in the house when I can get the speed test to connect. Still no useable data speed in the mountains.

[Q] No 4G. Please help.

I just got off the phone with a Verizon rep and they confirmed that there are no network outages in LA. So I guess there's something wrong with my phone. I'm currently running the debloated OTA rom with the radio that comes with it. I can intermittently connect to 4G, but only the upstream seems to work. It randomly cuts out, bumping my internet off or dropping me to 3G and 1X. Does anyone have any insight into this?

Well I think you were lied to,they have been messing with the network in several market over the last few days,if flashing different radios doesnt fix your problem it has to be the network, in sioux city iowa the same thing had been going on ask day, they are getting ready to switch the 4g on, it happened in three twin cities yesterday when they expanded the coverage, can't always believe what the reps tell you

The rep seemed like an honest dude, but I guess there could be sneaky network changes and upgrades. It might also be hardware damage. Does anyone about the 4G antennas on the back cover of the Thunderbolt? Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? A ticket has been opened for some techs to check out the network in my area. I'll keep you all updated.
You're sure your network mode is on CMDA / EvDo + LTE?
Positive. I can't think of anything else except network issues or hardware damage. :\
I am still in sioux city and the network is flippin out, give it a day befor you go buying hardware

Good call on that one. 4G is up and running when I leave the apartment. The strange thing is I have basically full 4G reception outside of the apartment, but inside: no 4G, but full 3G. Such is life, I guess.

[Q] Evo 3d Net Speed Question

new to androids and sprint so I searched the forums and found nothing related to my issue, so here goes.
I have a sprint air rave at my house and when i do internet speed tests whether it be through an app or a website i can manage barely 2mbps DL and sub 600k UL
When i turn wifi on i get my normal 10mbps DL and ~2mbps UL that i would get through my PC's...can someone tell me if its an airrave setting or is it just the way that the phone is set up to work with the air rave?
im Running Synergy rev 344 on my Evo 3d
This is because the airwaves uses Evdo while you use speedtest. If you turn off the airaves and perform a test again you're not using evdo you're using your home wifi.
You should be able to use wifi while the airraves on, just go into quick settings and turn off mobile network before you perform a speed test. Make sire to turn it back on when you're done!

thanks for the quick response! so i guess it was the way that the air rave is programmed (i had a inkling that that might have been the reason)

tried google searching but i couldn't find any explicit stating of airave speeds.
wifi hardware on the evo 3d has the greatest speeds of all the radios on the device.
airave is using pure cell phone, 3g/evdo technology to communicate with the device which has bandwidth limitations.
to list the radios in the phone in order of speeds i've seen:
1) wifi, 2) wimax, 3) 3g/evdo/airave, 4) 1x
i also have an airave at home and i never thought to run a speed test on it. i usually flip on wifi if i need to pull down a lot of data while at home. mainly just use the airave for placing/receiving voice calls and sometimes text.

turning on wifi with an airave and w/o works the same as with a cell tower signal and without.
when wifi is turned on android switches data to operate over the wifi radio and leaves voice/text over the cell radio which will go through either the airave or the sprint tower.
when wifi is turned off android switches data back to going over the cell radio which uses either the airave or the sprint tower, whichever has better signal.
hope that makes sense and helps!
No problem
Yeah the airave just gives you evdo speeds not wifi also be aware that it won't know if you're calling a mobile phone or a landline, so any minutes used to call will be deducted from your monthly minutes.

both of those are awesome pieces of advice!
yea i tried to google it also but couldnt find squat on the airrave speeds, lol i usually have wifi on at my house but i was curious to find out the throughput speeds of the airrave.
and also thanks for the info on the cell calls....when sprint sent it to me...they didnt say a word about the air rave not knowing if i was calling a cell or landline so i will definatly have to watch who i call from now on
Ya it really depends on what person you get from tech support. I don't know this from first hand experience only what i was told by a tech rep, mine won't be here for a few weeks as they're on backorder :/ so maybe the rep that told me was wrong, just pay attention until we know for sure

[Q] Is it possible to write a custom Sprint radio?

I've Googled around and searched the forums for an answer to this, but I don't seem to see any answers.
It drives me nuts when people with other service providers have better reception than me. Our Sprint radio should be able to compare signal strength of towers and roam onto other towers automatically if the signal is stronger than the Sprint signal. However, I'm told if our phones sense the slightest Sprint signal, they'll stay on Sprint towers.
Has the idea of rewriting the radio to improve this functionality ever been considered?
Just use the corporate prl and force roam. Free Verizon actual 3G.

I still think it'd be nice if the radio would automatically choose. I don't want to roam when I don't have to. Thx for the info on Corporate PRLs though.

[Q] Data connections being weird

First of all, I live in a suburb of Dallas which is completely covered in LTE according to Sprint's coverage map and I can affirm this by Sensorly and my own personal usage of my phone when I see 4G LTE in many places. However, lately I have noticed on the bottom floor of my house I usually get 1X or 3G, whereas upstairs I get 4G quite nicely. In other houses nearby (less than 1 mile), my phone doesn't even get data many times (and if it does, it is 1X) whereas other Sprint iPhone 5's are enjoying LTE in the same location.
Now I know our phone's have connection issues, but why am I not even getting 3G? Is there anyway to help force my phone to try and get more 4G signal because I know for a fact Dallas has pretty decent 4G coverage? When my phone goes into 1X it also seems to be sucking up quite a bit of battery. Any help is appreciated!
I am running MeanBean 3.09, S-ON, with the newest Bulletproof Kernel.

MeanBean has the Roam only option baked in, just go to settings - mobile network and set it up... The battery drain is "normal" when the phone doesn't have a good signal... Roam or use wifi... I know it doesn't make sense but that's the now network...

Flash Verizon Radio to Sprint Note 3

Will flashing a Verizon radio to my Sprint Note 3 cause me any problems with Sprint?
I'm up in the mountains every weekend and have 1xrtt when standing next to my neighbor who has a Note 3 on Verizon, he's pulling 4gbs on 4G. I cannot connect to a server when trying to do a speed check.
I was thinking of flashing a Verizon radio for use on the weekend and re-flashing back to Sprint during the week.
What will the ramifications be? I won't be streaming or doing anything data intensive, just want to be able to use browser etc. I'm on the unlimited plan and unable to use much data due to the poor network build out in the area's I'm in.
Anyone have any experience with doing this that cares to share some insight?
I've done that using per helper from the at store and worked just fine. Shouldn't have any problems from sprint as long as you're not downloading movies or streaming large amounts of data

Thanks for your input. How long did you have your phone's radio flashed for? A couple of days at a time or did you have the radio flashed for an extended length of time? Thanks again for your help.
If you flash a VZ radio more than likely you'll get no connection at all. You can cause your phone to force roam utilizing PRL Helper and doing a search for the "00001 PRL" this will cause you phone to ignore Sprint towers unless there is no VZ coverage. Just be aware Sprint's getting more aggressive on off network roaming data. I got a warning email after utilizing half a day of 3G roaming

you dont change radios . dont listen to the second poster. you'll end up with a brick. run freezas rom has prl flash built in. i run a prl that has lte but allows roaming of 3g on Verizon towers. run it for a few months on and off no issues or letters from sprint.

Thanks everyone. I use prl helper and roam control currently. I have not used the 00001 prl yet. I know there's some custom prl's for switching to Verizon with your sprint note3. I have my phone on roam all weekend but am using a sprint corporate prl and am usually getting 1xrtt and occasionally with find 3g. I just need to be able to access google etc to find/look up things. Will 0001 prl let you roam on 4g also?
