I've Googled around and searched the forums for an answer to this, but I don't seem to see any answers.
It drives me nuts when people with other service providers have better reception than me. Our Sprint radio should be able to compare signal strength of towers and roam onto other towers automatically if the signal is stronger than the Sprint signal. However, I'm told if our phones sense the slightest Sprint signal, they'll stay on Sprint towers.
Has the idea of rewriting the radio to improve this functionality ever been considered?
Just use the corporate prl and force roam. Free Verizon actual 3G.

I still think it'd be nice if the radio would automatically choose. I don't want to roam when I don't have to. Thx for the info on Corporate PRLs though.

I am wondering if there is a prl to flash for the evo 3d, sprint network is terrible arround here, I am currently using the verizon prl, although better, not as good as US Cellular in my area, expecially at work.
Thanks in advance

No I don't think anyone has made one of those. Is us cellular a cdma network? Have you tried the 1337, or 3137(can't remember if this is correct but it does start with a3). Or maybe even that sprint business PRL 1115 I think it is.
The Sprint business PRL (11115) only allows for roaming on Verizon I believe. I don't believe they have any roaming agreement with US Cellular, unfortunately.
I tried the 115000 and it didn't work as well as the 00001

I checked into it, and one of sprints reciprocal roaming agreements is with us cellular. However the agreement is only for voice and 1xrtt, but no 3G. We could find out all the roaming agreements if someone put their sprint PRL into one of the PRL decoders floating around out there.

Yeah, that would make sense. 01 is a custom PRL, and its targets are to force roaming on to Verizon towers. 15 is a PRL encoded by sprint for business customers. Its main target is sprint towers, but directs the antenna to Verizon towers, and all the other company's that sprint has roaming agreements for. It only does the roaming though if it can't find a sprint tower. Also with 15 it will settle for roaming towers that only have 1xrtt, as opposed to the custom PRLs that aim for Verizon 3G towers whenever possible.
Try out the other 2 PRL
there is 01337 and 31337 PRLs. I have yet to test the 31337 but 01337 works well. 00001 targets Verizon towers by default before Sprint, and if that one doesnt help you much I dont think 01337 will either as it is just a modified 00001. 11115 Wont help either as you still have some Sprint service so it still defaults to that network.
Here are 3 US Cellular PRL files for you to try:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EFOKA16L
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O6JINILZ
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9W7K02BI
15096 allows 3G roaming. Enjoy
Is it safe to install prl 15096? I have an EVO 3d with free roaming
sorry havent checked back in a while, I will give all 3 a try
Thanks

First off, it is too dangerous to use any of these unless you have a plan with unlimited roaming. However even so sprint has gotten very sneaky. They have advertised unlimited roaming, but just like their unlimited data if you do too much [voice or data roaming], or a majority of your usage is roaming [even if you barely use any] your contract states in fine print that they can terminate service. Now so long as you aren't tethering a ton, or using lots of data they don't seem to mind, but if you do they send you a warning, if it persists they terminate you. You should not get charged ever with the plan you have, and you shouldn't get terminated unless you hog data. Hogging data on sprint is bad enough but hogging data on Verizon via roaming is very wrong. They won't terminate you unless you are abusive, so I hope you have nothing to worry about.
Since Megaupload is down could you please repost the prls
Thanks
Check THIS thread. A guy here on XDA is testing all sorts of different PRL methods. Hope it helps!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I have been searching for an EVDO US Cellular PRL for around a year now, and have never found one. I tried yours, and they work. How do you go about extracting them from a phone? I've never been able to figure that out. I really needed this since most of the places my Sprint phone roams in have little to none Verizon coverage, while there's perfect US Cellular 3G.

Well it depends on what brand of phone you have. The ultimate goal is get into diag mode and from there you can use QPST or DFS to pull the prl.

i know these prl's pretty much tell the phone when and what towers to roam on.. i think i am correct. anyway the service at my house is HORRID on sprint! i mean absolutely horrid. is there a way to edit these prl's so that my phones roam threshold to roam will be more towards verizon.. because i pretty much have to actually lose service before it roams on verizon at my house.. and even then it switches back and forth, so service is pretty much a big 0000000000 ...
can a prl be edited to pretty much stay on the stronger roaming signal (verizon) until a fairly strong sprint signal is captured.. this would eliminate the need to keep switching the verizon prl i am using to a sprint prl when i leave home so i dont draw red flags for roaming all the time!!.
What ROM are you using?
no rom.. i am not rooted.. i am just using verizon prl to get service via qpst.. i am using 0001 prl..
i am actually using 0001 verizon prl while home and then switching to stock sprint when i leave.. it would be great to not have to do this crap!.. seems the prl could be edited with better thresholds to stay on verizon while im home with crap service.

Try the 11115 PRL, it's a business PRL and Sprint won't kill your service for roaming on Verizon too much
any links to 11115 prl?
This is Sprint's 01115 PRL. I think its the same as what you are requesting. If its not, then disregard....

AFAIK, no PRL is going to do what you want. 11115 will allow you to roam on 3G more often but it won't change the threshold at which it switches over to roaming on Verizon towers. I wish there was a way to do that! I'd love to be able to tell it to switch to Verizon towers when the signal drops below 2 bars on Sprint or something like that. I think that's embedded in the radio software and not even the ROMs can access/change that. You'd probably need a custom radio update and I'm not aware of anyone "hacking" those.

I would call Sprint about an Airave
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1189192&highlight=airave
Check out this link above from an earlier thread. They might give you a free airave and that should solve the problem you are having at home.
Be careful with Verizon prl, a lot of people are getting their lines terminated because they data roam too much.
The Airave isn't that great either. The one they are giving out now is pretty horrible for texting.

The AIRAVE requires a constant power and broadband Internet connection to
operate. In the event of an outage, your phone will automatically try to obtain
service directly from the Nationwide Sprint network if coverage is available.
Hi, I'm still learning about PRLs and how to make use of them.. so I manually updated my phone to Sprint PRL 11119.. I was hoping that it would let me roam on Verizon towers but its the same as the over the air PRL I had.. my phone only goes to US Cellular. the thing is US Cellular signal works but isn't that much better than Sprint..
So is there anyway I could force roam to Verizon? or maybe in my area I'm out of luck?
I'm in Rockford/Chicago Area
Have the HTC EVO 3D rooted stock version.
Used the Roam Control app to force roam
also just tried the new sprint prl 60687..
I appreciate any help you guys could offer..
Thank you.
I believe that PRL is a corporate prl, which will only give you 3g roaming in certain areas of the country. The only one I have gotten to work on my phone is the 00001 prl, however that forces your phone to always roam on verizon. 3g works perfectly (as it should work, hint hint Sprint). I haven't used it since upgrading to ICS since you cant change prl's with ICS, however it will work with any GB Sense rom with the 2.1 EPST
I understand that its mostly used for the 3G roaming but I also thought it would let me Voice roam on Verizon as well not only Data..
My phone with the 11119 prl did show 3G roaming but I wasn't sure if its Verizon or US cellular data tower..
Can a PRL like 11119.. roam to Verizon 3G while at the same time roam to US cellular Voice? or it have to be both voice and data?
Also; are you saying that I won't be able to roam on verizon unless I used the 00001 prl?
Thanks.

No, it's all or nothing. The PRL should connect your phone to a Verizon tower first, then a US Cell tower second, so there may not be verizon coverage where you are.
We do have Verizon coverage I'm 100% sure of that.. Are there any other causes that wouldn't let me connect to Verizon? I mostly need the voice.
Some prl's just dont work well with some phones and different areas of the country. Like I said, one of the prl's I tried didn't work in my area. I would just try a few and see if you find one that works better.
Well I guess for now I should be happy with the 3G roaming and later I might try different PRL versions as you said and see how it goes.
Thank you for taking the time to help.

I'm at my wits end and am hoping someone could have an answer for my problem. My home's in the L.A./O.C. area and the local towers were recently upgraded. This has made my phone use ERHPD (I believe that the upgrade is only a software overlay) since 4G was not upgraded. Basically I'm in a 3G/1x speed zone. I'm stock 4.4.2 and towel rooted with roam control. If I go out into the street and force roam to Verizon's network, I'll get 4 to 6gb download speed. On Sprints network, I'm stuck on 3G with 0.20 dl speed. When I force to Verizon's network, (goes to 4G) and then switch back to Sprint, my Sprint speed will be on 4g (with 1/2 the dl speed of Verizon). I tested both networks by streaming a movie and no buffering with Verizon and just a little buffering while on Sprint 4g. Once I walk into the house my phone drops to 3g again and 50% of the time will time out when trying to speed test or Google anything. Go out into the street get slow 3g. Force roan to Verizon and back to 4g. Once on Verizon 4g I can turn off roam and Sprint will be at 4g then (but a slower speed than Verizon). This is an improvement over the consumer prl that was on the phone originally. I'm using 2 different corp. prls for sprint which allows me to get the above stated speeds. Consumer prl sucked big time. I'm wondering if flashing a Verizon radio to my N3 would allow me to pick up the 4g signal that Verizon phones are getting good speed with and or change over to a Verizon prl?
Another test/example done today while in the San Bernardino mountains.
Standing next to my neighbor who has Verizon NOTE3 and is getting 4g. Speed test showing 4mb upload. My Sprint Note3 download speed 0.13. Tried it with 2 corp. and 1 stock prl.
Is this a junky radio on SPRINT or do I need to use a custom Verizon PRL to get and maintain 4G on my Sprint Note 3? Could the speed connectivity issue be solved with a radio change? Maybe a Verizon radio?
Any help/direction is greatly appreciated,
I know speed and connectivity are a big issue with Sprint in a lot of areas right now and maybe the answers will be able to help the dozens of people I've seen looking for answers.

You could try and change the radio to Verizon, but I think that would conflict with the Sprint version of the OS you have in the device. Then what happens when you are in an area that the roles are reversed, and Sprint has the dominant tower ? Do you have a different internet connection in the house that you can pull WiFi from ? A friend of mine had a similar problem the house was a dead zone. So she complained to Sprint and they gave her a router that produces a WiFi signal for internet and provides a signal for phone calls for her old Sprint EVO 4G. This way she never has to manually have to switch her device connections when leaving home for work. Don't know if this will help in your case, but might be worth a try.

Sprint gave me an Air Wave which I use at my work since it's in a dead zone also and I need cell signal to do my job.
Because I have one already, Sprint won't give me another one for use at my house. There's no internet or wifi at the mountain cabin. Only signal available there is cell if you're on the right provider. Thanks for the suggestion. I was thinking of flashing to a Verizon radio when I go to the mountains and re-flash it back to Sprint after I return. I'd have to do this every weekend and am not sure if it would get me kicked off of Sprint for roaming to much on Verizon. I'm also unsure if flashing the radio would actually give me good Verizon signals, and unsure if Sprint could be able to tell if I was using a different radio.
Update,
After researching some more I tried going to airplane mode for 30 seconds and back. This has my phone connecting to 4g when outside the house. Once I walk inside the signal fades and it goes to 3g in the house. Not needing to roam on Verizon to make it go into 4g. 3g data is only .03mb in the house when I can get the speed test to connect. Still no useable data speed in the mountains.
Will flashing a Verizon radio to my Sprint Note 3 cause me any problems with Sprint?
I'm up in the mountains every weekend and have 1xrtt when standing next to my neighbor who has a Note 3 on Verizon, he's pulling 4gbs on 4G. I cannot connect to a server when trying to do a speed check.
I was thinking of flashing a Verizon radio for use on the weekend and re-flashing back to Sprint during the week.
What will the ramifications be? I won't be streaming or doing anything data intensive, just want to be able to use browser etc. I'm on the unlimited plan and unable to use much data due to the poor network build out in the area's I'm in.
Anyone have any experience with doing this that cares to share some insight?
I've done that using per helper from the at store and worked just fine. Shouldn't have any problems from sprint as long as you're not downloading movies or streaming large amounts of data

Thanks for your input. How long did you have your phone's radio flashed for? A couple of days at a time or did you have the radio flashed for an extended length of time? Thanks again for your help.
If you flash a VZ radio more than likely you'll get no connection at all. You can cause your phone to force roam utilizing PRL Helper and doing a search for the "00001 PRL" this will cause you phone to ignore Sprint towers unless there is no VZ coverage. Just be aware Sprint's getting more aggressive on off network roaming data. I got a warning email after utilizing half a day of 3G roaming

you dont change radios . dont listen to the second poster. you'll end up with a brick. run freezas rom has prl flash built in. i run a prl that has lte but allows roaming of 3g on Verizon towers. run it for a few months on and off no issues or letters from sprint.

Thanks everyone. I use prl helper and roam control currently. I have not used the 00001 prl yet. I know there's some custom prl's for switching to Verizon with your sprint note3.
