Hmm I didn't find anything related to efs in @Odia profile, maybe I missed out on something? Most of his important thread's are about unlocking sim, I would like to know if there are any definite solutions for these kind of EFS CORRUPTED situation, just Curious. Please do post the link cause I can't find it.
Or was that a typo and you actually meant Odin?

Odia is known (among other things) for getting EFS folder to work properly by getting the IMEI nunber outta the nv data file, or something.
These service depends on the available time this user's got now with the SIV and all, and comes with a fee.

Is there an app for that or does he do that per user request I never knew about this, thank you, efs was the one major software issue which always bugged me, I am actually safe with backups but a solution for 'corrupted efs' for people who came here I didn't have any possible good answer.
Is there a link which you can give?

No, I am not but this knowledge is new to me I didn't know that efs corruption had a possible recovery(without the backup), the only thing I thought possible for a recovery was overwriting with a efs backup.
Sent from my GT-P6200 using xda app-developers app

No, i've read it somewhere, old posts, pretty old actually.
And this is not about corrupted efs folder, this is for formated efs folder.
Got no idea how he does it, that's why he requires a fee.
Of course, this should be regarded as a last resort, if you suggest this to an user make sure that the user is not constantly trying to PM odia.
He will attend to the matter when he wants, how he wants and if he want to.
Sent from the little guy

Odia could sometimes recover the IMEI/EFS details without any backups, etc, and only sometimes. I don't know how he did it & what cases he could/couldn't. He used to ask for a small donation for same.
I'm not even sure if he still does it, but I occasionally suggest this to people who have no other option. As Gaston said, if you do end up doing it, you contact him once & wait. For as long as it takes. You might be in a hurry to get your phone fixed/worried about it all, he doesn't care (nor should he).

I can see some users offering more money over and over on every PM.
He can get rich, this guy, with the yahoos we got around here.
We should get 10% in exchange for promotion.

Whoa. Hang on
I said he could occasionally sometimes do it. There may be certain requirements/certain files may be needed to be intact or whatever. I never knew the details. And I don't even know if he still does this.
I hope you don't start referring every n00b who doesn't have any other option (or is simply too lazy to try other stuff) to him; I suggest you're going to have a lot of very disappointed people on your hands.
The default response to people without backups & who have tried various apps and threads on here is still service centre. That doesn't change.

That's what you should have done in the first place. You might be better off trying to get a warranty replacement. If the phone is bricked, they won't be able to tell if you tried to do something to it anyway. Just an idea. Hope you learned your lesson. Should have been a given.

About a half hour of reading in the first place would have saved you the 600+ dollar paperweight you just created. In a half hour, you could effectively figure out that n7000 ROMs are a big no-no for the i717, learned how to root your i717, learn how to flash CWM on your i717, and flash an i717 ROM to your i717.
Not to condone screwing over AT&T, but I would suggest you do the following, if you by chance have the monthly insurance on your phone: report it lost or stolen, pay the $200 deductible to order a new one, then take your old one which is now completely useless, and smash it with a hammer, run it over with your car, burn it, spray paint it, burn it again, smash it some more, wrap a strip of firecrackers around it and light it off, use it for target practice for the nearest firearm or paintball gun, then put it in a display case to keep in a prominent location in your home or office as a reminder of what a lack of reading can do to your device. Then, while you are waiting patiently for your new i717 to arrive in the mail, take the time to READ everything you can about your specific phone so you know every in and out of it before it is in your hands.
All joking aside, the best you can probably do is report it lost or stolen, order a new one, and then see if somebody needs it to try out JTAG repairs for the Note. I'm not sure if JTAG has been accomplished on the i717 yet, but that's probably the most use your phone will ever provide again.

Op does your phone do ANYTHING AT ALL? bootloop, hang at splash screens, only show charging symbol when plugged in? All of those aren't bricks and are recoverable
If your phone just sits there and does absolutely nothing, nothing at all, like a corpse, then that and ONLY that is a brick.
What exactly id your phone doing?

Fine. As you should. But you should also follow the rules when doing ao. I gave my advice in this thread as did others in which the same advice (not by me) was also posted in countless other threads including ones the OP posted in. If you forgot here is a refresher for new users:

Maybe it will help if I use smilies?. I get way too many pms . I read them all . I also read my recent threads :victory:. I also have things I'm doing in real life :highfive:. it is redundant, time consuming, and not worthwhile to send a pm and a response when you don't know what you are talking about :silly: . I generally hate my PM box . its filled with people asking questions that a search would take care of. So let me break this down a bit so you see what I see:cyclops: . I have a thread I'm monitoring and subscribed to, it sends me emails and I read the thread, I also get a PM, which sends me an email... I read there same post 4 times within 2 minutes and it was a question to which the answer is "no" :silly:.
I had hoped my previous response would be sufficient to convey that and let the quad message poster know that he does not need to spam to get my attention
The only thing we are now missing is a SBOOT.bin file. Once we have this file, I have a hardware hack and Ralekdev has a software hack. I've established a permanent external UART for testing compatibility of SBOOT signatures, but so far every one which I've found has been incompatible.
I'm working on this device and bricking it continuously. I've already had to have a thread shutdown in Development for improper firmware. I need a 100% restore solution. I'm working on it. I need SBOOT.
I'm also working on hardware hacks. https://plus.google.com/u/0/104711040110222472212/posts/TWps7wWvAAu I located UART on the live stream yesterday, and I've created a version of Heimdall for the GNote2.
So yeah, I'm a bit abrupt. Don't take offense. Just know that I'm working on this and being an asshole on the internet is real easy when working quickly.

[Q] [Help] Can't boot phone at all after installing kernel

After rooting my phone and installing the LiquidSmooth rom, I was looking for a kernel to try and oc my cpu. Found this one, did a nandroid backup, and flashed it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424&page=2
Problem is, now my phone won't boot at all. By this I mean, it won't normal boot or boot into recovery, it doesnt even have any splash screens. No matter what buttons I hold down the screen stays black, nothing pops up, no sounds are made, nothing vibrates, absolutely nothing happens.
The battery isn't dead, I had it charging when I was doing all of this and it was at least 90%.
Please help, I don't have any idea what, if anything, can be done D:

Oh man, that sounds like what happened to mine, It died.. dead. nothing. sent it back to where I bought and they replaced it. it was in the 15 day period. jag wanted 250 to fix it, I just bought a second note for parts. if it did die, keep an eye out for a broken screan can get cheap.
Ur prob is u flashed the wrong kernal for the wrong type of phone that is a no no. The n7000 is not the same as the i717. That is y u stay in the same section of the phone u have. I hope u still have a warranty. Next time stay in the i717 section.

So basically, my only option is to replace it?
Or send it to JTAG repair service, spend $50, wait a week.
My Note just kicked the bucket too. I installed Flap-Jack's Kernel on top of Liquid Jellybean 2.8 and when it tried to reboot it seems to have died & laid down on me. It's going to be fun using an old Motorola Flip Phone again. Damn, I'm pissed!

Which version of flapjaxx's kernel did you flash? He has kernels for ICS and jellybean. Must have flashed a ICS version.

I knew it was JB. I used h0tcakez-JB-Kernal-v2.3.5-Alt. I used it on 3 or 4 different roms here lately with no issues..

What do y'all think a bricked Note 1 is worth these days?

I forgot to mention that my Jig doesn't do anything with this!
Heck I'll buy it for $50 lol.

It's too early to bring the salt out yet.
Sorry. Didn't mean to break out the salt.

I bought it brand new from a guy on eBay and then registered it on the Samsung site. It shows to be still in warranty on Samsung's site till the end of June. Will it still be this easy to get it replaced as u say AT&T is?
Post withdrawn.
I'm going to report it to Samsung tomorrow and at least try to send it in.I wish they'd accidentally send me a Note 2 for kicks & grins.
Yeah, that's fair. You screwed up, then tried to defraud the warranty process. You definately deserve an upgrade.
No wonder the bootloaders are being locked and prices are more ridiculous. What ever happened to "I screwed up -- no I live with my mistake?"
Wait... Responsibility for ones actions? What do you think these are grown men or something?

Now I'm all for people expressing their opinions whether its in support or against whatever topic that's being discussed. However, insulting comments like this one I've quoted is unnecessary and has absolutely no value. There is a difference between stating that you don't agree with something or explaining why you don't agree, verses personally attacking or insulting someone because you don't like what was said. "Grown men", as I'm sure we all are, should know the difference and know what's appropriate and what's not.

I've told certain individuals in several threads not to condone fraud on this forum the last 2 days . Enough is enough.

Sometimes shame can cause positive character growth.
Besides, people who commit fraud and encourage others to do it hurt a lot more than feelings.

Galaxy S3 got bricked

Here is the problem. I messed up with /efs folder.I didnot have a backup of that even
What happened after that is smthin really scary.
My IMEI number changed. Its 004999010640000/01. As it is not the one written on the phone stamp.
My S/N number changed to 00000000000. Which is again nt the one on the phone stamp.
I am getting smthin like ( yellow rext on black Patch ) .on my home screen. which is staying there continuously. Please see the screenshot attached
For the background the phone was bought in singapore.
Immediate help will be appreciated.
If you don't have a backup of your efs folder its off to the service center for a motherboard replacement for you.

Maybe you can get hold of another SIII, extract the EFS folder and inject/replace your individual data. Just a wild guess though...

No. IMEI cloning is illegal and it's not a topic discussed on XDA..
EFS is device specific.

That would he illegal in most countries because it allows you to get round network blocks on stolen devices.

Whatever...
Another attempt would be to dd the partition and open it up with Winhex (forensic tool) or anything similar to analyze the ext4 partition for deleted/unallocated data. Maybe you can recover something.
