Hey guys, first of all switched over from iphone 5 and loving life! anyways, I had the silver one and I was able to take a screen shot by hitting the power button and volume down at the same time. I have swapped it for the black one and now this is not the case??? I can only do a screen shot when I do home and power at same time.
I preferred the volume down option because when you do it that way it puts the screen shot in your notification tray. Anyone have any input?

It's always been Home for me. Got a notification once, but not after that.

Mine works with the power and volume buttons, home and power doesn't work. I'm assuming your phone is still stock?
Mine works with both power + home, and power + vol down.

We have a 32gb Touchpad that essentially is my 5 yr old's. It has been running CM7 fine (dual boots that and WebOS) since he got it at Christmas. He handed it to me this morning after taking if off the Touchstone and it had the message "Please release keys..." and keeping the power button pressed down for eternity does nothing (I've rebooted if the Touchpad has gotten frozen before or if the touchpad didn't recognize touch on the screen).
Please help, I have no clue what to do. I googled the problem and it seems people have this happen when they install CM, but mine's been running fine for months and this is spontaneous.
You have to press both the power button and the home button together for about 15-20 seconds.

Thanks, I did try that, but it goes to a black screen, flashes the HP logo for a split second than goes back to the "Please release key(s)...." message. I did this 5 times, so it just seems to cycle
I had this issue once. What I did was press-and-old Power and Vol-Up, then repeatedly hit the Home button. Takes about 10-11 tries (do it really fast - should only take a couple seconds). Then screen will go completely black. Press and hold then just power-home, and it should come back up. As soon as the backlight starts to come up, release the buttons, though.

Tried, it does the same thing, flashes the HP logo for a split second and then back to the 'Please release key(s)...' message. I can't get it to do anything but go through the black screen, split second of hp logo and then back to the message Thank you for trying to help!
Any other ideas? I am keeping it charged on the Touchstone but still stuck on this screen

Any suggestions on how to fix this? Although it doesn't seem to be stuck. I am able to press it when trying to reset the device.
No, but it can be independently verified quite easily. So that is it 100%

Hey, new guy here.
So about 2 weeks ago my EVO 4g LTE's power button started acting crazy. I would have to push it really really hard to make it turn on. Sadly it has gotten to where now it just doesn't turn the phone on at all. I have since downloaded an app from the market to use the volume keys to turn it on from sleep mode, but cannot turn it off without being able to turn it back on (the app only supports waking the phone up). I've taken it apart, cleaned it and still no luck. No matter how hard I press it, it just won't turn on. The button also no longer gives that slight "click" when pressing it.
I ordered a new button, took it apart, replaced the button and still nothing. It still doesn't even click. I'm wondering what the part underneath the power button is called. Would that be the power button flex cable. I'm speaking of the part the button actually touches to produce the power on/power off effect and the mild click it gives when pressed.
I bought the phone used and when I took it apart, it appeared to be tampered with at this same location. It looked like this section had a black coating on it where the power button would touch but had been rubbed/scrapped off, showing copper.
If anyone knows what this part is please let me know so I can order/replace it.
Thanks in advance
Hi!
I am rooted, and was running Android Revolution HD 13.
Tried to install KitKat 4.4 and the status was aborted. I saved a back up in recovery. I entered a boot loop once I restarted the phone. I thought, "No problem! I'll just get into my recovery!" But every time I hold the Vol Down + Power button, nothing happens. It simply shows, "HTC: Quietly Brilliant" and the developer disclaimer at the bottom. Any ideas?

When your at the HTC boot screen hold the power button and both volume buttons.... You'll see your button lights flash like 10-15 times and then it will force shut down your phone. Once it's completely off try booting into recovery again.

holding the power button for 10-15 seconds will shut the phone off
try holding it under a bright light ..the proximity sensor can keep the phone from shutting down if the room is not well lite

So are you thinking theirs some other miracle answer to your question ?
it's a fact that holding down the power button plus vol down till you see the blinking lights (around 10 seconds)
then let off the volume it will shut off, just keep trying.

I think it may be the vol down button to be honest. It is odd. I have never experienced an issue like this before.

Had a similar problem once. Let the battery run completely dry, then charged it back up and got into recovery from a power up.

i have an evo v 3d through virgin. on my lunch break i went to use my phone and screen wouldnt come on. thought battey might be dead. when i plugged it in light would blink instead of staying on steady to show it was charging. wouldnt connect to comp. either. i thought it might be: battery so i put new battery in and let it charge overnight. The screen still dont work. It vibrates still and buttons on bottom of screen light up but the screen remains dark. I tried to do a reset by holding down the volume down button and holding the power button at the same time but that didn't work. any ideas on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated Thanks
Did the charging led ever stay solid or turn green?
Are you s off
Custom ROM / recovery?
Try taking your SD card out and then boot to bootloader, hold volume down and press power

with the new battery i can get the phone to charge. light is on when charging green when full and i can power up and guess where to swype to unlock. it rings to tell me i have new notifications but the whole time screen is dark just buttons at bottom light up. i tried holding volume down and powering on but that didnt do anything nor did taking out the mini sd card. no custom ROM or anything. should all be like was when i purchased phone new.
When you hold volume down and press power does the phone vibrate or do the lights on the cap buttons turn on?
I imagine your screen has died but I'm definitely no expert

no dosent do anything. ive pretty much given up on it figured screen is prob. shot. sucks cause it was only year old and ive done good making sure not to drop it or anything. oh well hopefully the s3 will last me longer. thanks for your help
I have a new app installed, from the App Store, and have started this. After I wanted to enter my name the app hung up and since then the tab is dead. It can not be started anymore.
Home Button + Volume up + power button does not work either.
Does anyone have another tip? I've never had anything like that and it's not the first device in my hands.
It is not rooted. Is the normal software from Samsung on it.
I had it on my tab pro 12.2 and it turned out my micro-SD card had gone bad. Please remove it if you have one in your tab S3 and restart it.

Try power button + volume up + volume down at same time? Are you sure the battery is charged? Try a different charger and cable.
The tablet hung on the original charger half the night and the other half on a Sony charger. Each time a different cable is used. Unfortunately it stays dark on the tablet. Power button + volume up + volume down did not help.
How dead is it? I mean, is it turning on?
(the lack of a notification light on this tablet annoys me, as I think it would help in such a situation!)
I had something similar when I was rooting it..
There should at least be a factory reset layer. I got to it with volume up and home - no power button required. I believe I had to hold them for a long time, ten seconds or so. And if it shows life you then hold the power button. Apologies if that's what you tried, but you don't hold all three buttons at once is all!
I am inclined to believe if this doesn't work your tablet might not actually have any power. Which could imply, say, a battery issue.
It could be the other way around, oddly. The tablet is on, but the screen has hung with no display. Another combination to try is power and volume down.
The tablet is absolutely dead. No matter what combination of buttons. And no it was not rooted or something like that. Since I still have warranty, it arrived this morning in the repair workshop.
The tablet has now been repaired and replaced the motherboard.
