Are there any roms that can be used with s-on by fastboot flash boot boot.img first then flash rom
Pretty much any of the sense based roms can be I think. 4ext has a utility to do s on flashing. I'm curious though. Why don't you just s off the device?

Well I have 1.08 boot and I'm flashed to cricket I really don't want to re flash it took a while to get 3g on and I can't find a tutorial too downgrade boot to be able to s-off.

Use this guide. Use an apn backup app and make a backup of your apn before you do the guide and restore it once you finish.

Should be able to flash any ROM then flash the boot.IMG from the rom in fast boot.
If your on the new radios. That is.

Make your life easy. Download 4ext from the market heres the thread for it also. Open it... and select s=on (im assuming you are s=on otherwise kernels flash automatically with the rom. flash 4ext recovery from the app. Reboot recovery. In recovery, go to settings and enable "smartflash."
Now the kernel will flash when you flash the Rom. It may reboot once right after the htc splash screen... then the rom will boot.

Boot into bootloader. It will tell you if s=on or off. If s=on, while in recovery, go to settings and enable smartflash and flash away.
If s=off... just flash away. Either way... no need to download a kernel

I'm a experienced user been toying around since 2007 so if u can help me out let me know thanks

I bet you that the Rom you are trying to flash has a different kernel and that is why it is bootlooping. You need to flash the stock kernel or try using 4ext. It has an s on flashing tool.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Ok that sounds right can u point me to the right place to get the stock kernel ?

What if I boot into recovery useing comand prompt
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app
Won't make a difference if you boot using a command prompt. If the Rom has an aftermarket kernel it won't boot for your device because it will be unable to flash the custom kernel since you're s on. It can however be done you just have to go about it a different way. I do.t know how to do it that way though but there are guides. I would try getting s off honestly. It's easy to do.

definitely flash back to stock rom and get s-off it makes things so much easier
Yea it does thanks u guys I flashed back to stock from hboot then used the thunderbolt tool gained s off then flashed recovery wiped then installed booted right up thanks for your help

I am confused as to which roms I am able to flash. I am Unlocked, s-on, with twrp. I have read a bunch of threads and think I understand what s-on means but not sure as to which roms I can flash. Some of the roms say that you can flash them but a lot don't mention it at all. I would like to flash a non sense rom like cm 10 but I get stuck in the cm 10 loading screen. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks
You can flash any rom you want. You can now get s-off too. Go to unlimited.io and use the dirtyracun method. If you don't want to do that you will need to flash the kernel separately.

I have a 64 bit running windows 7 and not familiar with running it from a disc. So I guess I'll flash the kernel separate.
So flash the rom then flash the kernel?
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I'm not exactly sure, I've never had to do it. I think you need to extract the boot.img and the flash the rom then fastboot flash the boot.img.
In case anyone is wondering I got it to flash and boot up by flashing the ROM then right after that I flashed an s on kernel that was compatible with the ROM I flashed.
Thanks for the help in leading me in the right direction.

Do you know how to get a recovery log? Depending on your recovery you should find an option to copy recovery log to sdcard. Normally it is under developer options or extra.
Boot into recovery flash a sense gingerbread ROM (meanrom 4.5 would be a good choice) after flashing copy log to sdcard. If you are using 4ext (recomended) the log will be in the 4ext folder cwm and twrp put them in the root directory. Once you have a log attach it to your post.
Also if you are using 4ext make sure you use the s-on smart flash option.

I just tried flashing with several different roms and copied a fresh log
Okay looked over the log. None of the files you tried flashing will work that way. The pg86img is a to be flashed in the bootloader same with the twrp.zip. Your superwipes are not designed for this phone one is for the amaze the other is for the jewel aka evo LTE. Flashing those could brick your phone!!
Now on another note your firmware is too old to run ics/jb aosp roms and sense ics roms most sense ics roms need hboot 1.58.
Try this... download meanrom 4.5 and enable smart flash. Then install the ROM and report back.

You can. I would only suggest upgrading your firmware. Stick with the hboot you have. I will give you a link to the firmware in a bit. With updated firmware you can run ics/jb aosp roms such as cm10.1 or pacman.

Yesterday I unlocked my bootloader, got TWRP recovery, got S-OFF and rooted my phone. Is there anything else important I need to do?
I also got ext4, which i believe got rid of TWRP because now i can't find it. Which is better?
I flashed a new kernel, but it broke the wifi, there were no wifi modules so I returned to stock kernel. I'm using Flash Image GUI. Is that the best way to flash roms and kernels? Something's telling me its not.
On a related note what seems to be the best overall kernel + rom configuration? I know its opinion based but from what I've seen there's not much descriptive information on roms and kernels.
This is my first HTC device, help much appreciated.

4 ext recovery is recomended for Evo. Personaly I always flashed my kernels via recovery (same as ROM flashing but wipe cashe and dalvik only). As for ROM kernel combo, that's up to you and your phone. My best combo might not even work on your phone, so it's flashing time for you. Flash away and find what works the best

Might sound stupid but is there any instructional video for using ext4? I've never used this recovery and want to make sure I'm flashing kernels and rooms correctly.
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
I don't know about tutorials but it's easy. Before flashing just wipe everything except SD card ( you can do this twice, just to be sure there are no leftover files) and choose zip file to flash. Always flash ROM first. You can flash kernel right after the ROM but I always boot my ROM, let it settle for few minutes and then boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik and then flash kernel. That's all there is to it. You can also fix permissions after you flash the ROM but I never did it and had no problems.

Yes because all ROMs come with kernels, so if you don't like the kernel you got with ROM, just flash another one. You know you can't flash JB ROMs on certain h-boots right?

If you want to flash jb or kitkat, you need to change your hboot to 1.50 or lower.
Make sure you are flashing cdma files, the ones for gsm will cause many headaches and potential brick.
There is a thread somewhere with the cdma hboots, I will try and find it

Yeah I'd like to get JB or even KK.
Not sure what's the best.
For example the XPERIA PLAY works best on GB roms because of game play compatibility. Not sure is the evo V has any of these catches.

Kitkat is still in testing
Jb mostly work well
Ics is solid
Gb is solid
General rule of thumb is if its anything other than ics sense, you need 1.50 or lower....I recommend jbear 1.50.5050

So what do i flash these zips with?
All this HTC crap seems difficult...
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
First make a nandroid backup and backup your app data and such
Then you'll want to flash a Rom that boots with both hboots (1.57(58) and 1.50)
There's a bunch but I know butterz sense does work
Then put jbear 1.50 zip on the root of your sd
Rename that file pg86img.zip
Reboot to bootloader and accept the update
Reboot the phone
Now make sure you remove or rename that pg86img.zip
Now you can reboot to bootloader and verify your hboot changed
If its changed you're good to go flash jb, kk, or gb:thumbup:

I think i follow you, besides the part where i download and rename jbear 1.50, i don't know where to find that. Google didn't help.
*EDIT*
Ignore that last post, I'm on 1.50 with s-off now, thanks!
However, this is the second rom now that has broke my wifi, why is that? I haven't activated my phone yet so wifi is the only way i connect to the internet on my phone
