Hi Everybody,
I've recently got an S2 and would like some guidance on updating my phone as it is currently on Gingerbread and I would like to update it to Jelly bean.
My Phone details are:
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android Version: 2.3.5
Baseband Version: I9100XXKI3
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100ZSKI3-CL603802
[email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.ZSKI3
Or using the *#1234# method:
PDA : I9100ZSKI3
PHONE : 19100XXKI3
CSC : I9100ZSKI3
BUILD INFO : Fri Sep 23 19:48:32 KST 2011
My dad purchased this phone from China and has since returned to Canada and has given me his phone. The phone is rooted and has superuser and a XDA app in chinese.
I just want to know what would be the best way to update this phone to jelly bean (would this cause me to lose the root)?
As well as the fact that while this phone is unlocked, would updating it lock it again?
Thanks for your time.

Please check under ur battery just to confirm that u have an I9100.
The best way to update is to flash Jellybean firmware using Odin/Mobile odin.
Flashing a stock firmware will unroot ur phone. Root can be preserved either by:
- flashing a prerooted firmware
- flashing via Mobile odin with Ever root option
Alternatively, u can easily root after flashing also.
As for locking, if ur phone is an international unlocked model and u flash a carrier free firmware, it wont get locked. Flashing a carrier branded firmware or a previously locked phone can lock ur phone.
But its very easy to unlock even if it gets locked.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply and the help!
I'll look into the things you suggested!

Hi!
I have searched this forum and readed all FAQ-s, bus still can't figure what to do in my case. Hope You can help me
So, my phone is
PDA: I9100XWLP7
Phone: I9100XXLPS
CSC: I9100EPLLP5
with ICS 4.0.3 (now rooted with CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5).
My problem is buggy bluetooth stack. I have even didn't notice any problem with bluetooth until buing new car radio with bluetooth (Sony DSX-A50BT). After paring this whit my phone all works well .... but only for 10-15 minutes. After this connection is reset and music player on phone stops. After some searching on the web, I have found that this kind of problem are typical for ICS 4.0.3 and some users reports they resolved it by upgrade to 4.0.4. Ok, but my problem is, that there is no official upgrade available for my phone! (via Kies).
I think is due to strange PDA code "LP7". I thing it is strange because it first letter should code year of production (L means 2012) and second letter should code mount (A for January, B for February etc.) But what mount is for P? (last mouth, December is L )
So I need a little help in answering question: could I safely flash stock ROM with ICS 4.0.4 intended for other PDA?
Could I do the same with some custom ROM?
Or maybe there is another way for fixing my buggy bluetooth? (I have read that some user fixed this problem by replacing four bluetooth related files in his ICS 4.0.3 phone with files extracted from ICS 4.0.4. Unfortunately they didn't say how to extract those files and neither what files he replaced!)
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You can find all official firmwares from sammobile.com.
Yes, you can flash any stock ICS 4.0.4 or custom ROM as long as you are sure its meant for ur device i9100 and there is no carrier branding.
But why go for ICS 4.0.4 when you can flash JB 4.1.2?

yeah...you don't wanna go 4.0.4.....

Thank you for your replay, but how could I be sure about this? I mean "there is no branding". I bought my phone over internet and it has no carrier software or logos, but I didn't know for sure.
BTW. Did JB 4.1.2 has reliable bluetooth?

That means ur phone is not carrier branded.
JB 4.1.2 has a lot more fixes and features than ICS 4.0.4. I suggest you give it a try first.
And some 4.0.4 kernels are affected by the 'brickbug', so u might wanna be careful too.

On sammobile web site I can find exact match for my phone as "Germany E-Plus". Did it means it is branded? (But on the phone itself I can't find any items from this particular carrier).
What can be consequences of flasing generic stock ROM on a branded phone? (I have risked and flashed my phone anyway - it seems all is ok, but I want do the same for my wife and my daugthers phones but they phones are definitively branded!)
UPDATE: Bluetooth problem seams to go away, but now I'm experiencing sleep of death.
Hello, have searched for this but found nothing in the S2 forum itself, essentially have rooted my phone (s2 I9100) onto the Siyah 5.0.1 kernal, would essentially like to run JB (4.2.2 or closest) on my phone
Is there an image of the stock android for jelly bean that I can upgrade my phone too? can't find a download link anywhere so don't want to brick my phone with a suspect site, figured it is safer to ask first.
I would assume if it exists i can use Odin to just flash the phone to that stock JB image and that is that? or is there anything else to it
Thanks
Flash official stock JB 4.1.2 using Odin. Thats that.
You can find links for official firmware on sammobile.com.

Okay, one more silly question (apologies in advance), the stock android on my phone is 4.0.3, i'm on O2 and in the united kingdom
Since united kingdom is only listed once on sammobile with vodafone in the name, does this mean no no for me? or will the vodafone one still work by wizadry?
Cheers
You need to find out if phone is network locked or not. If it is go to o2uk website search unlock code and fill in form. 24hrs later they will reply with sim unlock code. Unlock your phobe and flash nordic 4.1.2 (nee) im o2uk using it and it works great. Make sure you learn how to flash b4 you try it. Good luck you have plenty of reading to do
LSJ Powered Time Machine.
You want lsd/ls8.Or just wait until O2 releases their uk one.

You can use other based ROM that PhilZ & Jeboo kernels support. Then, flash their kernels that root your device. (see their OP for viewing support Rom)

There is very little chance of updating to 4.1.2 manually without losing your data. If you had an OTA update, you wouldn't lose data.
As for flashing via Odin, it is recommended to wipe data when moving from ICS to JB.
But you can always backup data and apps, and simply restore them after updating!
You will lose root too, unless you flash the firmware by Mobile Odin with 'Ever Root' option selected.

Yes, you can update to 4.1.2 by flashing a firmware for another region, and then try to change the CSC after the update.
But I don't know if Arabic language will be there on other region's firmware.

By rooting galaxy s2 4.1.2, you can have a full control over it. In addition, it also allows you to run custom ROMs on your device in future.

Ever root allows you to root a stock firmware while it is being flashed by Mobile Odin. So u don't need to root it afterwards.
For more info, check out the Mobile Odin thread.

it says
Make sure that the device is already running the latest Android 4.1.2 ZSLSE Jelly Bean official firmware before proceeding with root procedure.
but I have ICS 4.0.3 does that Siyah-s2-v6.0b4 file supports which mentioned in his link?

Grettings everyone,
As the title says I want to update my Galaxy S2 i9100 via ODIN which is currently running on Gingerbread 2.3.5 to Jelly bean 4.1.2 officially.
As I'm a kind of person who dont want to mess up my device with rooting or mostly dont care about rooting.
I'm on complete stock Gingerbead 2.3.5 with no root apply.
The problem is that I cant update my GT-I9100 via KIES or via OTA (Over The Air).
Here are the basic which info. which I can provide,
"Model No. (GT-I9100)
Android version (2.3.5)
Baseband version (I9100XXKI4)
Kernel Version (2.6.35.7-I9100JPKj2-CL655700 root @dell143 #2
Build No. GINGERBREAD.JPKJ2
and here is the error which KIES shows.
"Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies.
* Current firmware version DA:KJ2/ PHONE:KI4/ CSC:KID(XXX)"
Sorry for my bad English and also if I am posting this on a wrong section.
And I also can anyone also tell me the procedure whether to check my phone is locked or not to just make sure everything go perfect during the update process.
Thanks In Advance !
This has already been covered many times mate! Please use search before posting.
Simply download the appropriate firmware for ur region/carrier (if any) from sammobile.com. Extract it and flash it using Odin. Then do a factory reset.

Just 1 more thing is it safe to download any of the jelly bean 4.1.2 of any country? For example India, Pakistan and update it via odin?
Yes it's safe (altough you should back EFS folder up first).

make sure you download firmware with the right csc code for it to be compatible with kies, downgrading should give better battery life.
