Has anyone experienced this sort of charging? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Certain power points seem to not charge but certain power points do the charging job perfectly?

what's a "power point"?

The place where you plug your charger in.

that's a faulty charger then

Define 'power point'. Are you talking about different Usb cables, different chargers, different wall sockets or jiggling the cable's connector to the phone?
In the latter: replace the cable and you may need to clean the contacts on the phone (eg with a hard toothbrush)

I think he means wall sockets

ysah i think he means wall sockets also at which it would still need to be a fault with his charger as its there that the voltage is converted to the voltage and ampherage that the phone uses.any differences in voltage that is given to the socket would most likely be on a very small scale

Ah I see. Does Sammy do one to one exchanges of the charger if its faulty?

Does anyone here use aftermarket chargers? Thinking of an innergie one.

I have the same problem, but with all cables
I just posted to an other threat about charging problems, so i will copy/paste it:
I have the problem that the phone only want to charge with soms chargers.
I can connect the phone to the original charger or to a pc or any device without problems, the phone will charge.
Even with an old blackberry charger (only 2 wires, no data) and car charger can i charge without any problem!
But when i connect the phone to the htc charger of my old phone, or to an iphone charger i see the phone is connected but it won't charge.
When i open batterymonitor i see that the charger is connected, but the phone still use his battery.
I tried this with all kinds of charders and all kinds of micro usb cables. Then i thaught there was maybe a resistor or chip or something build in some chargers, because i couls only charge with chargers with 2 wire cables.
Then i took a usb extension cable and i disconnected the two data wires so only the + and - 5V cables were left,
but still no success. If anybody knows where the problem is, please let my know
with kind regards! Martijn

In the case there would be more people with this problem:
The problem is not caused by the charger but by the cable. If i use a cable that's a bit to small or to long i get problems. If you want a longer cable to charge your phone, you need a good and big one, not a cheap tiny cable. I only use good cables now and had no more problems for the last year or so...

adapter?
is it the original wall charger and the usb data cable.?
i too had a problem with an ordinary usb data cable. it charges so sloow. like 1%/20 minutes.
better use the original accesories if its the original one and defective better return it for replacement.
It's probably a cabel problem. Charging occurs only when pins AC and Ground (1 and 5 AFAIK) are both connected, and often some of the pins stop working. If it's not a kernel of power supply problem (Which it probably isn't), it will be solved by simply changing the cable. Or if the cable works in usb charging, buy a new adapter (Make sure it's 5V before buying).
I had the original charger, then broke it...
I bought an USB to replace that(the connector was messed up)... but that charged slow, and discharge when using...(still on the original charger, but another cable)
For 2 months, I borrowed galaxy chargers, and any other friends with cables like mine, I asked them for the charger...
Then, I decided this must stop! I told my mom to find me a galaxy s charger (she was noob, doesn't know I can charge from non-lg cables)...
She found me one, and all fine...
But, before trying to buy one of those, go to a friend with a charger that fits Optimus one, and try it, if it charges faster, then buy a new charger

interesting read
my mothers camera does not charge with a usb cable while when I put the cable in the camera the charge button is on.
I did not know there are still differences in USB cables ...

Our stock charger uses a wall "adapter" and an usb cable... it charges from usb, but the chargers that have no adapter (you can't remove the usb from it), charge lot better, I recommend using one of those... any samsung charger that "fits" in our phone is better than stock charger
In mine it charges rarely ! i had lg normal charger but it stops charging if i lift the cell nd use it! den took my moms samsung pop charger ..it worked fine for few weeks den again same problem arised :-S

I lost mine. I bought 2 for one deal from ebay (noname cables) and they wont charge 30% during al night. So i told them it's faulty and they sent 2 another one. still no charge so i bought an htc one wich seems a bit better, but still not like the original. My friends lg optimus 3d cable was charged it full from ~70% in about 30 mins. His another htc cable was worked fine.

will using a different USB charger cause damage to the phone?

I have the original charger that came with our X10, I also have a 3rd party car charger and I charger for a different phone in my office. I use all 3 of these chargers to keep my X10 charged up.
My question is this. Do all USB chargers have the same voltage and amp specifications?
So will my car/office charger damage my phone?

USB is 5V as long as I remember. I've charged my phone with car & galaxy s2 charger and it is still working, so it shouldn't make any difference.
Usb is what the pc pumps out
Car charger is what the adaptor pumps out, same for mains charger.
Chargers normally tell you what current what is pumped out,so check that out.
Usb must be more of a trickle charge...

USB Charger
Well for me, the USB cable is broken (never really understood why the design for microUSB's had the little flimsy teeth at the end). I simply replaced the cable with an LG brand and attached it to the original Sony charging block. Havent had any problems since.

Why..ooh why....

I have tried to charge my phone today with the charger AT&T sent me. My Portugal charger had a short in the cord so they sent me a generic charger. It has taken hours and hours to charge my phone! please help!

There is a known issue that the charger has to be a specific output voltage. Do a search and see what others have already stated. I'd try another charger. You can also try the trick of shorting the charge cable. That works, too. Also in the forum already. You just need to look and read my friend.
The "sorting the cable trick" is There is a thing with Samsung chargers, where when on a wall charger, the data pins are inactive, making it charge faster.
Generic chargers still use those pins, so the note thinks it's hooked to a.pc and just truckle charges.
take the chargers larger end, take the cover off and put a small bead of solder between the 2 center connectors of the usb board (not the actual plug, the board the plug is connected to) that should enable fast charging.

USB charging issues - some chargers/cables

I have a Samsung SGS2. This charges fine off the original charger (650mA) , a new trent usb power pack (450mA), computer USB port (450mA) etc using a variety of cables.
I purchased a USB charger from a major retailer (B&Q) and found that when charging the phone a) had a totally unresponsive/dodgy touchscreen b) actually barely charged. Swapping the usb cable I was using for some cables seemed to fix the problem, but most didn't work.
However using the "failing" cable in a amazon kindle usb charger, and again the phone charged fine.
My conclusion is that the replacement usb chargers are faulty in some way - or at least not compatible with the SGS2. Possibly down to perhaps data pins not being shorted or similar.
Interestingly the exact same issue is observed on an HTC Sensation further suggesting it's the charger to blame (we have 2 of them - behave the same)
Can anyone explain/elaborate?

The unresponsive touchscreen you experience when using the charger is the result of the charger creating too much noise (ripple) which disturbs the electric field of the capacitive touch screen. Hence the digitizer is not able to work reliable anymore.

Shorting the data pins will allow the phone to identify the charger as such, compared to a standard USB port. The phone will then draw more current then it does if it detects a 'regular' USB data port. From that point of view shorting the data pins should not have any influence. However if more current is drawn from the charger the ripple will increase and therefore the disturbance of the touch screen could aggravate.
In the end the problems you are experiencing are due to a charger of poor quality.

Battery problem

My phone doesnt seem to charge.
Ive replaced the battery and the chargers (on my third charger this week) and nothing seems to work. Two of the chargers dont seem to be recognised so dont charge the phone at all, the other one does but wouldnt charge the phone even though i was getting a steady charge of 1000mA through it.
Im using Boefla kernel and have 'ignore unstable current' and 'ignore safety margin' both ticked but have tried on my ROMs standard kernel (using Omni) and still getting no increase in battery percentage.
This would all point to the phones USB port not working but i used my girlfriends Lumia charger and surprisingly it charged normally
I have read in one of the other battery threads that a fatter USB cable allows the phone to charge, can this be confirmed? One of the new chargers (one that isnt recognised) ive bought is a 2A charger so i wouldnt have thought that size of the cable would cause a problem?
Any suggestions would be great.
A cheap charger or cable may cause problems, a worn usb port also. More likely to be issues with the plug or socket than the cable core size.

I thought it may have been the cheap charger thing. 2 of them are cheap nasty things but the other one is fine, ive used the same make previously and it worked fine. I thought the USB port myself till it charged using the Lumia charger.
Looks like im gonna have to buy a Samsung charger and see what happens.
