Not sure where to ask this but im looking to put the Sense 3.0 keyboard on my S3. The S3 board sucks and I LOVED the one I had on my Thunderbolt. I have tried a few different options using both apks and flashable keyboards and they do not work. The one i flashed did nothing and the apk kept force closing. Anybody have the files I need to make this work?

Probably it is a matter releated to HTC's framework.
Thats what I figured the problem was I just didnt know if someone had ported it or anything.

It is framework dependant since after HTC desire. I really missed my HTC_IME_mod for HTC desire. The ONLY keyboard that ever felt close to HTC for me was Smart Keyboard Pro. The thing is, the Desire was an older Sense keyboard so I'm not sure how similar to the 3.0 keyboard it is, but give the trial a go.
I used to use the HTC_IME_MOD keyboard and I used it on both my Captivate with AOSP and my old Aria on Cyanogenmod.
I used to like that keyboard. But I like Google's AOSP keyboard now.

Can someone point be in the right direction on how to get swype for the hd2 running android?
yes i would like to know too im not used to typing im used to swyping

there you go. I reuploaded it for you guys. Someone posted it earlier but I seem to have forgotten where
i believe shapewriter is still on market....use it... wonderful app for swype
looks like shapewriter was pulled from the market. The last available version was 3.0.9. It is available in the wild and the company that apparently owns the code isn't providing an alternative. In my opinion they are using the code in their paid non android keyboard apps.
Seems like swype is the next "display rotation" controversy. Companies are desperate to hold onto something to corner the market IMO. The swype beta also expired. I haven't found any available swype apps anywhere. I think there is one in the market but it's expensive. Preying on desperation. Guess we all have to pony up or buy a new phone.
Sorry to be negative, maybe it'll get better but be careful of copywrites guys. The software development world is looking for the next cornerstone after the hardware world has trickled us up to a point we don't need to buy a new phone every 3 months. They don't make cars like they used to do they?
**Edit** SlideIT is the app. Not sure of the price atm as I'm back in WinMo for a moment to upload these apks and I'll let you know which one is decent. But again, whichever it is, it may not last forever as the only one that was legally free with a lifetime ownership was shapewriter 3.0.9 but it may lose kernel support at anytime. Maybe android or some dev will create an alternative. I'm sure patents are all out there on this by now. Stupid but whatever.
I've tried numerous swype.apks for the past week or so and none is as responsive as the original. maybe its because android is still ran through the SD that swype (also ran from SD) is conflicting? but this is my opinion...
i've tried the swype apk from the EVO and DESIRE. desire link is dead but the EVO link is floating around somewhere still.. BUT, responsiveness is no where to be found. its slow.
I'm using the red themed version from this Droid Incredible thread and with the 7/23 zImage there is next to no lag. It works just about as well as it does in WinMo.

Tested both the above Swype and found Shapewriter 3.0.9. Both gave me Force Close errors and I had to switch to stock. Going to try the Droid keyboard now
**Edit (again)** Sorry, bad information. I was trying to use the apps by just dropping them in the AndroidApps folder. I uninstalled them and reinstalled using Astro and it looks like they all may be working. I'll have to do some testing to see what works the best. I apologize
Thanks for all the suggestions on this and posting a link to the Shapewriter 3.0.9 file looks like it may be a grey area in regards to copy-writes as I think you had to get it from the market while it was still hot which looks like it was brought down early June. O well.
This is probably a retarded question but how do you install the file once you've downloaded it to your SD card? Or do I need to download it from within Android to run it?
Nevermind, figured it out. Thanks anyway.
You can use Astro or Dropbox and just click the .apk file to open it. If the file you find is .apk.zip just remove the .zip. You may have enable Windows to show file extensions to do that.
Astro is in the Android Market
Dropbox is an app for your PC and an app for the phone so you can transfer files without rebooting into Windows everytime.

Yeah I noticed the mention of Astro and went and got it and figured it out. Thanks anyway for the information without even meaning to give it lol.
Anytime, I'm just killing time waiting to see if GPS is going to be compiled tonight. I should probably just get some sleep. So looks like the post xanderdad referenced is what I will stick with. It's the only thing out there that's available that's free and updated. It's working fine so far so unless there's something better, I'll stop bumping this thread constantly.
Thanks for bringing this topic up dbiggs and everyone that replied. Hope I was of any help. This app is a must without a physical keyboard IMO.
Any reviews or anyone try the driod red one? My Swype is almost unusable it's so slow to respond. But i don't think it's a swype option. Cause when i set the pattern unlock code on mine, i have to draw really slowly cause it lags behind as well. Unless i just had an old one

I am using the Green HTC one so looks like these 2 are decent options. The others worked fine too but I think I'm sticking to this one.
After the .apk is installed go to Menu > Settings > Language and Keyboard and Check the keyboard you want to have available. Then find an empty text box and long press till you see Input Method and then just select the keyboard you want.
Additionally, there are some settings within the Language and Keyboard you can tweak around to make it a little faster but it's pretty good stock. It takes a bit to load the first time and like anything, if you have a lot of apps running in the background, live wallpaper, old Android image and widgets while running on a Class 2 SD card it will probably be slow. Change as much of that as you can and it should get faster with newer Android builds and if\when NAND is in place to run off internal storage.
I've used swype for almost the entire time I was in windows and cannot even compare the speed to swype on this android. Swype on android right now is slow. This is using the EVO swype, and DROID swype (above post). Droid swype is much faster than the EVo, but still, will not compare to the swype from windows. I cannot even speed swype lol...
I'll wait patiently for faster builds in the future. For now, its back to the stock froyo keys.
And yes.. I've done almost ALL that is possible to speed my hd2oid up. Swype is still slow.
Ok, i got the droid keyboard with the 7/23 zimage, and holy smokes this is a godsend... it's basically identical to the winmo version. So glad it worked out good.
Not getting swype keyboard on darkstone's froyo .. I have zimage of 23rd as well
I Have enabled swype from the keyboard settings.

does a how to find anybody know where I could find a french version of swype for froyo???
NEW version 1.60.36.8214
Hello,
i found this 2 apk for swype from evo4g xda forum
So i ask for your help on how to add the italian language to the modded version and how to install it since it's a zip file and the recovery tips didnt worked for me since when hd2 reboot, it obviously reboot into windows.
Can please someone post the "mic version" with italian language or all languages?
Thank you in advance
why dont yall just sign up for the beta, it takes like a day or two foor you to get an invite back, and you always get the most up to date version.
at least, thats what im doing.
Also, swype is working for me as fast as ever. i never have any lag in the trace line or the responsiveness. its probably because you guys are using old versions of swype.
You need to sign up for the beta and you will be able to get the most current version of swype.
I was going to upload the current version of swype that i have, but i could not find it in the tree anywhere. normally all applications install to /system/app but this was not the case for swype.
if anyone can find out where swype installs itself, please let me know and i will be more than happy to throw the current versios of swype up for download.
As soon as i got this phone I rooted it and flashed xtr rom because it looked reliable and stable. Which it was the rom was beautiful but i got the froyo bug and decided to move on to 2.2. I installed kaos froyo and love it but there are a certain things i miss specifically the htc contact app which allowed me to merge contacts from all my different sources and really minimize doubled up contacts. Is there anyway to get the htc contact app on a 2.2 rom without sense that doesn't involve flashing? Is there an apk or an apk for a similar contact app?
TLDR: Can i install HTC contact app on Kaos Froyo rom?

Unfortunately, there isn't any way of getting the HTC Dialer (which is what you're looking for) on a non-Sense based ROM. It would have to be ported, and noone has been able to do so. It may be hard or impossible without the original source code.
I have used Dialer One in the past, which is a lot more like the Sense Dialer. I don't know for sure if it has the feature you're looking for, but there's a free version on the Market. Check it out.
Edit: FYI in case you're curious enough to try putting the HTC Dialer on other ROMs anyway, forget it, I've already tried it. It's just not that easy.

What about xtr rom? It's a vanilla rom with the htc dialer. It might be sort of hybrid but it uses launcher pro (not sense) and the same dialer. I was kind of upset the htc dialer has so many little features that you take for granted until they are gone.

It is still based on the HTC framework, which is why so much of the HTC stuff is still present and works.
I really miss the HTC Alarm/Timer/etc app, too. Sigh...
Just flash xtrSense and switch to Launcher Pro or something.

I'm using Red Glass, Workshed's themed version of his FroShedYo v8: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824160
I may switch to his Vanilla, just because it's based off a newer CM build.

I think he's hoping to get it or an equivalent on a 2.2-based ROM. As much as I like xtrSENSE and xtrROM, I like CM6.x-based ROMs because of the ease of access to toggle widgets in the notification menu, Froyo-native Apps2SD, and the Froyo-native USB tethering, which has been working much better for me than any other kind or method of tethering recently, and tethering is my only internet ATM.
I don't know if the OP likes the same things out of Froyo ROMs or not, but I would assume he doesn't want to go back to more stock for anything more than the HTC alarm clock and/or contacts.

Thank you for the help. Xtr sense with launcher pro is almost equivalently the xtr rom. You hit the nail on the head perfectly as well. I love the stability smoothness and just all around solidness of the xtrroms sense and not. I just feel like i'm missing out when i roll 2.1 there is not much but just a lot of little things above ones mentioned are big. I'm going to rock xtr again for a little then switch to a 2.2 maybe kaos again or possibly what you use and weigh out what i like about both. I would drop both options if we can get a daily use gingerbread though.
Hi, after using my HTC Hero since it was launched I finally recieved an SGSII at work.
I really love the phone, and have been able to tweak most things to my likings, but the iPhone-wannabe-ish SMS thread viewer is definately not to my taste. No big issue, ofcourse, but I'm still posting about it in case some of you skilled Android-hackers/users have an easy solution. On my Hero I really loved the look of the SMS app in FroydVillain (Froyo) and Decked (GB). I'm honestly not sure, but I think they both ran stock unthemed SMS apps. Black baground, white text, clean interface without those silly bubbles. I've been trying to do a Google image search but haven't found out how the stock SMS app really looks in ICS so I don't know if the cartoonish iPhone-bubbles are from TW or AOSP.
I dont want some bloated and ugly SMS apps like Handscent or Go SMS that I've heard cause problems like duplicate sms-es.
Also, since the phone is my eployer's I want to avoid flashing/rooting it, so simply installing mms.apk from a different ROM is not possible afaik.
So, any suggestions? I guess I'm sort of hoping someone already compiled a binary/apk based on mms.apk that can easily be installed and used as the default messaging app.
I dont have a problem with sense or anything, I just like to have options and I really like the look of stock Android.
I havent found a solution as to why I cant flash Cyanogenmod 9/10 betas yet (keeps aborting installation), so I need to do this without flashing a new ROM.
Im currently running viperROM IC3D Beta 3. Im not sure if its promoted to be stable, but so far it is for me. And its also using Sense 3.6 so it should be the same if I was running the stock ICS OTA update, I assume.
So is there a way to disable/remove sense without installing a new ROM?
A launcher wont do it for me. All that does is change the home screen, not the actual shell of the OS.
Thanks is advance!
Get a new phone, or change your rom.
Since sense is integrated, you need a whole new rom if you dont want it.
The only thing you can disable with sense is the sense launcher.

There are some desensitizing scripts out there that you can find and tailor to your needs, but I would just find a ROM that is already desensitized. Some people swear by the scripts; others have issues getting them to work right.
