Just got the Note 2 the other day and it took the ota. The phone is not rooted and currently on the latest.
From what I am reading I can not find a root and unlock bootloader method right now, so posting here to confirm.
Also, does anyone know a good theme that has an AOSP lockscreen and is compatible with the newest Clean ROM?
Thanks.

This method is updated for the lastest OTA.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272066
You can update from your VRALL4 to VRAMC3 like jcollier said there is a root... You're all good...

Thanks for the info.
Seems like people are having issues with this method, hit or miss?
If I apply Casual and am success I can go ahead and install custom recovery which will block OTA update requests, is that right?

Basically what we did when we got the OTA update for GB. But yes it should work that way.

thank you.
But I am trying it right now. I am flashing back to stock GB as we speak and going to test it.
So let me see if I understand (I read a few articles about this) I don't have to be rooted to flash this? What I'm wondering is if I do flash this without root and unlocked bootloader, how would I go about reverting back to Gingerbread if I wanted too?

In my observations you would be able to flash it fine without root. But in order to go back to GB you would need to unlock your hboot. You'll be able to unlock it after you flash.

im no expert by any means but if i had to guess you would have to unlock your bootloader then flash a custom recovery then modify your main ver of your phone like what this thread says http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526316
there is a easy flashable in recovery zip in i think post #4 of that fourm that might be easier than the tool in post #1 of the forum.
but you will probably want to wait for someone to answer who acually tested it or know for sure.

True. If he tried to go back to GB after flashing the ICS he would get the mainver error if he tried flashing a boot.img in hboot. If he used fastboot to flash the boot.img he would get no error.
So I'm running rooted stock with an unlocked bootloader at the moment. If I wanted to flash this, do I need to re-lock the bootloader?

No, need the source code released...
Also, this isn't the final build it appears, it's a release candidate.

i just got my amaze yesterday, i installed the official ics OTA this morning, and now i want to root it. Does the one click root program work for the Amaze while it is on stock ics or would i have to downgrade?
I'm not sure, Look for hasoons all in one tool in the dev section. Has recoveries root and another one specifically for s off. You will find you will use his tool if you flash constantly

Hasoons tool wouldnt work for me when i updated to the WIND ICS OTA, i had to find the sudo package and install it via recovery. it did work for me in gingerbread.. just a heads up..
No one click. Read the stickies... Learn about unlocking bootloaders, 4 ext recovery, flashing superuser in recovery, and supercid. It's all rather simple. PLENTY of threads about it.

That one click does not work. It only works on GB 1.36. The exploit was fixed in 1.43 GB and newer.

Hey all, I was looking to find a guide about how to root now that we have ics. I was rooted but unrooted to get the OTA. I have s on and a relocked bootloader. I assume I just unlock the bootloader again and I flash some sort of recovery then install superuser, but I would like to see a guide to make sure I am doing things right. Thanks!

I have been seeing a lot of stuff about the update and I was wondering what exactly I should do about it. Currently I'm on cleanROM 4.0.5 with twrp installed, do I need to do the OTA update if I like what I have now? If so should i revert back to stock firmware before doing it? Is the new update rootable/does it come with a differently locked bootloader? Thanks

wrong thread , sorry
I try to apply the update from Verizon but it just says update failed. Does it have anything to do with me using Exynos abuse from chainfire?
And I've heard that the update will lock the bootloader. Should I change to a custom recovery before I apply the update?
Did you fix the exploit which you can do with that app? If yes that is probably why it is failing. If you want to rom you should not take this update until you see someone has busted into the new bootloader.
Why would you take the ota? It adds no functionality and just locks up your phone

Like an idiot, I saw the OTA and got all excited. Without doing any research, I flashed back to stock and applied the update. Needless to say I am now boot loader locked and I can't feed my flashing addiction.
My only excuse is that I'm a recent iPhone convert, so my brain is still probably addled...

I'm also I recent convert from iPhones...I dodged the OTA bullet by a couple days. Have had the phone for weeks, but just finally rooted, unlocked and flashed a ROM...right before this nightmare started. I'd rather be lucky than good.:good:

Adryn posted a safe OTA flashable zip using TWRP in the General section. And yes you will need an unlocked bootloader to use custom recovery. If im correct you should be able to remove the Exynos patch and then unlick and root using Adams Casual method which gives you TWRP. Youll have to update TWRP (I used GooManager to update to latest Twrp) in order to apply the safe update.
