(Before anyone starts shouting at me I have used the search!)
I have managed to accidentally delete my camera folder and another folder from the gallery whilst trying to delete just two images.
I thought it would be pretty straight forward but I've ended with an app called DiskDigger that seems to be taking ages to scan.
Can anyone recommend a different/better way to get the folders back please?
If they were on the external sdcard, you may be lucky. You can remove the sd, plug into a computer and use pc software to scan. I have a free one I can link you too. However you'd be very lucky to get the data back.
These android apps are crappy IMHO. If it was on internal sd, you're stuffed (sorry).
Lessons learned though. Use dropbox to auto upload pics, or foldersync to backup all folders to cloud or a computer at home that's always on.
I've answered this a lot so I'm surprised it didn't turn up in search.
Please ask questions in Q&A

so here's a google search for your thread title:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Need+to+recover+deleted+folders+android
with all the solutions.
And there's a help section for help
Search for "recover deleted files" came up with 3 out of 5 results even on tapatalk but only when initiated from The Q&A section.
Just goes to show how much difference understanding the forum layout makes

Dude I don't know if you are genuinely trying to be helpful or maybe I needed to more specific. The fact you offered me a 'lesson' in how to do a google search makes me lean toward the latter.
I had already done my search on google thank you before asking the question here.
yes, be more specific. what do you need? you asked for a tool for data recovery, that search brings up like a dozen of them

Maybe, just maybe he is asking for this one, or should he be googling "rootSU's free file recovery tool he said he could link me to, but Glebun, who is unable to read told me to google it"
Because that came up with nothing, here see for yourself http://bit.ly/ZVQQCx
so why are the ones from googling not good enough? you really lack logic

I'm searching and searching Android market for a program that can backup my files from selected directories to my USB flash drive. Has anyone discovered a program that has this functionality?
Yes... its called a PC.....
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
If I can get this to work I won't need a PC anymore. That's where I'm coming from with this.
A file manager seems to be the most obvious idea.
Sounds a bit manual to me. I want to select the directories/files just once and get it to backup those directories/files on demand.
rsync backup for Android

I know, I don't know how to use it. That's why I asked. Your reply did not fill in the blanks and just made the string 1 message longer that people now have to read through and take up more time from their day.
Has anyone had any luck configuring rsync?
Now that we have root I'm sure ROMS will start being developed, but in the mean time does anyone have a list of apps that are safe to remove from the stock ROM? I'd like to do a little de-bloating while we wait for more ROM choices.
Also, I loaded up "Root Browser Lite" so I can browse to /system/app and delete the apk files there - is this the best way to get rid of the apps that don't allow themselves to be un-installed?
root uninstaller will let you freeze system apps or uninstall them if you wish to do so
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rootuninstaller.free&hl=en
as for a list, I don't have one sorry, I just froze all the ones I knew for sure wouldnt mess with anything

First off, you're in the wrong forum to ask a question. Secondly, two posts down from yours is the script for removing bloatware, which includes a text file which contains the list of files that can be safely removed. Please put a little more effort into looking for your answer before asking it next time, and make sure you ask it in the Questions subforum. Thank you.
To answer your other question, I personally use Root Explorer (paid app) to remove stock apps and do anything involving files on my phone. I create a folder, '/data/app.disabled/', and put the apps from '/data/app/' that I don't want in there, in case I want/need them again or the phone breaks without them.
Also, if you're worried you'll break your phone by deleting or moving them, you can freeze just about all the stock apps in Settings -> Apps, or use Titanium Backup to freeze them.

Yes, I did find that and read it. I was hoping for an even more extensive list, but I'll experiment myself.
Actually, I discovered (via Google) that in ICS you can go to the "All" tab in Manage Apps and have the option to disable almost all of them. This seems to not only keep them from running but also takes them out of the Apps drawer - and it works without root. Surprised Verizon hasn't found and fixed that
And sorry for the breach of etiquette in the original post - I considered it to be a "Development" topic (in the form of a question?) and wasn't sure if the Development crowd watched the General Q&A forum.

You didn't need to go to Google, because I included that in my original reply, which takes you to the same place. Also, it's the first trick in my 'Tips and Tricks' thread, which is linked in my signature.
And around here, most of the development crowd currently does look at all the forums. It's not a large community yet, so there's not usually a lot new to sift through in the course of a day.

lol. I'm not grumpy, nor am I trying to advertise my thread. Every post I make advertises my thread. I didn't mean to come off as abrasive, just trying to point out the post could have been made in a better place. Don't be afraid to ask something, I'm not trying to scare you off. lol.

Sigs don't show in Tapatalk.
Hi there. I have a couple of questions to ask about my GalaxyS3. GT-19300. Android version 4.1.1. Baseband version 19300BUDL12. Kernel version 3.0.31-256827.
Firstly after what seems like days & days of 'research' I finally plucked up the courage to root my phone, hoping to rid myself of all the bloatware. For a complete newbie like me it was quite daunting really but once I did it, it seemed fairly easy enough? I have installed Nobloat but have not yet used it as I have a few issues that I need resolving?
Anyway since rooting I have downloaded TitaniumBackup & hopefully backed up my files? It took me hours & hours to find out how/where to save it to my external sd card? I am still unsure if I've managed to back up absolutely everything ie; texts & so on? Here is my first question, I have tried to sync my backup to my dropbox but while its 'uploading' it suddenly stops & says stopped because of 'internal error'? What does this mean & why is it happening & what can I do about it?
My next question is since I've rooted my phone, it as gone very very slow, in everything it does, even in my messages it shows the number for 5seconds or so before it actually changes to the contacts name? Is there a reason why my phone is so slow?
My next question is, I think, maybe related. I have ZDbox installed & now when I go to clear/use task killer, my phone reboots? Is there e reason for this & have I done something wrong or am I missing something silly?
I know there are quite a few question here & I have looked & used the search button but I obviously can't see for looking & I have spent a large chunk of time researching/looking for answers?
Anyhow thank you for reading my many questions & hopefully someone can point me in the right direction? It is quite daunting messing with your expensive phone knowing thjat you could potentially 'brick' it!! :fingers-crossed:
Regards Jay
Can't answer all your questions but tb doesn't back up your texts. There are other apps that back up texts without needing root. It only backs up apps and app data. With regards to your dropbox sync, you might have put in the wrong login details? I used it for a while and it was fine.
As for the phone slowing down, try backing everything and do a complete wipe.

Thanks for the quick response:good:. I shall look into the apps that can backup/save texts. I never thought to look there to be honest!!
With regard to my Dropbox, I definitely have the correct log in details, like I say, it gets to about 30% uploaded then comes up with 'internal error'!?
Also would that be a factory reset when you mention complete wipe? Would I then need to download Titanium again to restore my phone to near enough what it is now?
Jay
Back up everything you can, put it safe somewhere else (external sd or pc). Go into recovery and do a full wipe (cache, data, dalvik cache) and reboot. You'll have to set everything up again (login details and etc), but seems like it's the only option afaik.

Sorry to bump this!! I think I know why my phone is so slow, looking through other threads it must be my JB update? (I hope?) So hopefully this will be sorted as soon as my other problem is resolved..... My missing photo? as per my other thread!!
Why not try flashing another rom. Remeber to backup all your files to your pc.

I have only just plucked up the courage to root my phone!!!!! never mind 'flash a new rom' !!!!!!
I'm starting to go crazy with looking at all the various information for hours on end & seemingly getting nowhere & no closer to flashing a new rom?
Now then, funny thing is, my phone has mysteriously gone back to being fairly fast again?? Again I don't know what's happened to revert it back? So at least that's one of my problems sorted :good:
Oh & my other thread about my missing photo as been resolved, I had backed my phone up quite a while back & found it in some old files on an external hard drive, yipeee!!

i did a search and someone asked this about 2 years ago, and the answer was that its not possible. But maybe there is a way now.
Im wanting to install 2 instances of the same APK
The app is: Star Wars Force Collection
Reason im wanting to do this: Once you install the app and login to your account, theres no way to change accounts without uninstalling / reinstalling and logging into new account.
Looking for a way around this. I have a rooted Nexus 5.
Thanks for any help

Clear data will help
Or get multiple profiles (by custom rom or app)

ive seen an app that does multiple profiles but after reading reviews its not that safe and can corrupt your main profile / or prevent you getting back to it.
Still looking for a solution here, must be possible

you could unpack the apk and rename the package name... I'm not sure how to do this as I'm no Recognised Themer, but if you did get an RT to help you then I'm sure you could install the same app twice if Android thought it was a different apk when it isn't, unless it'd bugger it up by having the same app loaded in ram at once. I'm no expert but this is the only way I can see of doing it.

Sorry to bump such an olf post but im looking for the same reason as op. Running multiple instances of the same app would make life much easier. Im running lollipop so all the guides iv read thus far havnt had any success. Can anyone help?
I would like to only run 1 instance of the same app ,different versions though
Sure, this is possible via Lucky Patcher (I know, we don't love Lucky Patcher here). You can use the clone app option. I'm not sure how they do it. They change the last digit of the package name, I don't know if they change anything else. If it needs to be different versions, I don't know how.
Hi. I had no problem after following various threads finding out how to downgrade from 5.0 to a release prior to june 5th 2014 and towelroot but I do not wish to buy mobileodin and upgrade or ever end up with 5.0 but I can not find the answer to this anywhere...
How do I block OTA updates? I have found most devices you can change the extension of one or more files under system/app and that is how I would like to do it if possible. Thanks
PS I even tried searching Prevent OTA, Block OTA, Stop OTA, so I'm sorry if there is a thread on this already and it looks dreadfully obvious to someone else.
There are a couple of services you can freeze with Titanium Backup but I think you have to have the Pro version (which means you will have to pay) but if you are rooted, the OTA won't install successfully anyway. It will download and warn you that it's going to install, and then try to install and error out.

what services? will titanium tell me which ones? If I know what the services are and their file names, can't i just add ".bak" or anything to the file names? This is the problem, I dont know what they are called. I'm considering getting titanium anyway, so thanks for that info.

Sorry but I don't remember which services they are. But if you do some searching you should be able to find them in these threads. Titanium Backup will not tell you which ones. It's just a backup program. But it does have a lot of features and can freeze programs you don't want to run.

when you say "found many articles" do you mean you got many hits? I have gone through nearly every one of the first couple pages of results I got from that search before comming here. The only one that actually talked about the specific files did not mention the T-Mobile variant, and the files for the other variants were not the same. All the other results refer to different phones entirely, or talk about using an app. (which is not what I'm asking). There was no reason other than to be a jerk to tell me to google it. If you actually found an answer, why didn't you just tell it to me? Right, because you didn't, because it's not that obvious.

Thanks! Do you think adding ".bak" to it or something will be enough, or would it be better to just copy it to PC and remove it entirely? (I just feel more comfortable having it to put back if ever).
If I don't get a reply, I will just remove it to be sure.
