I am having serious problems rooting. My fastboot does not seem to work with anything. It all started when I flashed the latest firmware through RSD lite. Any advice. Matt's utility does not work - none of the options.
I am in

You're using the xt912?? Matt's utility works flawlessly if the instructions are followed. I hate to say it but you must be doing something wrong. Are you just trying to root or are you trying to flash stock? If you are having problems after a previous RSD flash then i would try and fastboot back completely stock with data wipe using his utility. Are you putting the phone into fastboot mode? Try a different PC if you're sure you have the device in fastboot mode and you extracted the contents of the zip properly. If not, you should try and post screen shots or describe where the failure is occuring.

I don't have my laptop with me to verify, but im pretty sure you're using an older version of the utility. The filenames you posted are ICS i think. It should be this one. http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...xt912-jellybean-windows-mac-linux-all-in-one/
You are my hero day - I forgot to extract the zip files - basic stuff - but I overlooked it. No wonder it keep saying file does not exist.
I was on verizon's site looking for a new phone. You just saved me some serious cash.
Thank you
I spoke too soon - I am still having issues.
It goes through the whole flash process and says the phone will reboot but the phone says "recipe failure" at the top by flash mode.
Is there a way to go back even further with this?
I tried flashing the latest firmware via rsd lite and the flash failed at step 14 of 21.
It seems hopeless right now
Well you don't want to go back. You tried to flash current firmware, the only direction we go from here is forward. What were you on prior to doing update? ICS? JB xmas leak? Which one of Matts utilities are you using? Go to the link at the bottom of my last post. Is that the same utility that you're using? Not DROID RAZR UTILITY 1.82 or 1.90 but DROID RAZR Utility XT912 Jellybean. I've used this utility to fastboot JB from a stock GB Razr without issues. If all of the above has been verified then redownload the utility and retry. If that fails, try a different computer and if that fails..... send it to me.

It seems that way. Lol but its not. You can't really hard brick a Razr. Give ^^^^^ a try and report back.

I am on the latest utility - I went to the link you provided and downloaded it again just to be sure but no luck.
Here is where I stand - I was on JB through dual-boot option but then flashed the latest firmware directly using RSD Lite, not Matt's utility. Doing this caused me to lose root and I hate all the boat and ads so I really wanted to get root back. I then tried Matt's utility - but forgot the basic step of extracting, I let RSD extract and flash. I then had some failure issues since it could not locate the files I failed to extract. I then managed to get stuck in AP Fastboot somehow - I can not get out of it. The last time I tried the utility, after extracting it, the top of my phone stated "recipe failure." I also tried to flash the latest firmware through RSD but it stops on stop 14 out of 21 and merely states "failed"
By "go further back" I mean is there some way to flash something other than firmware?
I am not a developer but have been rooting and flashing ever since I got my original droid ages ago. I am not a magician with these devices but I normally manage to make do what I set out to do - but now I am stumped.
Any help would be appreciated - I just reactivated my OG Droid so I have service but that old thing is 3G and the screen is tiny - I like my RAZR an want to get it back up and running. I am going to hold off on trying anything else until I get a clear idea of how to proceed. I remember doing something once with ADB but I am not sure if it was a bricked Atrix I fixed for a co-worker or if it was the RAZR - I tend to do these things late at night in a sleep deprived haze so my memory is not very clear on that.
Thanks
I am trying fresh downloads of everything - start from scratch. If anyone has a better idea please let me know.
Thanks
Try another computer if it still fails.

my recovery never loads through.
Its there. however it sits on the dual core technology screen when plugged into the wall. i even tried the battery-less plug into wall -- trick, it is still sitting at that screen.
its been roughly 3 hours - i'd assume it should have gone through by now.
that aside the rom boots however it is at the initial setup page and doesn't allow me to process the initial setup due to spam force close.
i have the sbf file and know how to use it, what i don't know how to do is get my phone to allow me to use the sbf file when i can't control it. the phone can't be in charging mode without something ignoring the force closes briefly.
i had read somewhere to use launcher pro, using the "hold search and say the command"
it doesn't seem to do anything no matter what i say nor how long i hold it for.
So if my phone is completely screwed thats that. i guess it comes down to are there any options i haven't exhausted yet?
or. can you switch charge only mode through some other means other than the soft key press in a menu i can't access?
EDIT: i looked through a couple of the options in the regular recovery. BP SW Bypass RSD is at the moment letting me see it to use RSD on it. hopefully meaning i can just sbf and move on.
EDIT: Failed flashing process. Unable to retrieve initialization value from INI file (0x7029)
bah just when i thought i had something.
You have to hit INSTALL RECOVERY before you go into recovery mode.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
i did hit install recovery, this is how i installed the rom - eclipse 0.6 from sd which caused all of the problems in the first place.
I think you have to use the plain RSD mode not the one you are using.
Also the voice search thing is just to kick you into the browser so you can backdoor into the market and install a launcher. I installed zeam that way and I was off to the races.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
jeffgarret, i attempted this as well and i'm getting the same problem. it can't read my ini file or something of that nature...
Code:
Failed flashing process. Unable to retrieve initialization value from INI file (0x7029)
this is what it gives me for both modes.
i get this error before the above error (before i actually "start" it)
Code:
Chipset type 53 is not supported
I would try re-downloading the sbf file in case something is buggered with it. Also I believe it is zipped. Regardless of what zip program you have, download and use 7zip for it.

so what you're saying is -- what i'm using should work, but isn't due to some random issue somewhere....
Every time I flashed a rom I had to hit install again or it would sit at Motorola logo forever
Also that sbf error definitely sounds like you need to use 7zip like
other guy said. I tried winzip, winrar, and gzip and had errors with all 3, other people say they work but 7zip works for everyone
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
i used universal unzip before (which acts sort of like 7zip... only different)
EDIT: it seems RSD is still giving me the same errors:
freshly downloaded sbf and i even used 7zip.
which probably means the error is actually the real error. so something is messy with my ini ... or something
P.S. i did use it as administrator (every time)
Can you get the rom to boot now? If not can you get to stock recovery and wipe everything then try to get the rom to boot.
Also you may know this but if you are on a desktop sometimes you have to use the back usb ports to RSD.

Sometimes the drivers don't install right, I didn't have that problem but some people have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver when they get errors and it worked for them. What version of rsd are you using? I think 5.3.1 is the one I used. There are newer versions but I havnt used so I can't say if they work.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Are you using power and volume up for RSD MODE on ur phone? I believe that is the way you need to do it. That is how I always have. And like evil Tim said. If u r using the newer RSD lite floating around then try old faithful 5.3.1
Sorry if my suggestions have been tried or mentioned. Its all I can think of for now
going to attempt your different version of RSD lite.
heh... i was using 4.8 from back when i would restore my Droid X
hopefully this is the final step i need to do...
EDIT: well it has started the process, i'd imagine i'm good to go.
i was able to get it into charge mode by restarting my phone a bunch of times and one of the times it happened to let me scroll the notification bar down (usually its blocked by the initial setup)
Thanks for everyone's support and ideas, i thought i was out of luck; but it looks like its all good.
Glad to hear it !!!
Thanks for the report back. I was wondering how ya made out.
Im assuming it was the RSDlite version that changed the outcome? Or was it u being able to get charged?

So far I have yet to see someone HARD BRICK their x2. I can't see it happening unless it's someone messing with bootloader partitions and signature and such. Though I've read that sbf isn't really a FULL partition included. I was a bit thrown off at how after I sbf first time when I complete deleted my build.prop and other things before I knew better, that I had the same wallpaper as before sbf. Lol
It was the version of rsdlite more than the getting it back to charge mode. Basically eclipse remix had a bug in their initial setup (which has been fixed) I just had all sorts of little problems here and there such as having the older rsdlite which I hadn't even thought about updating.

I googled everywhere and the same problem comes up for the Axtrix 4g. Says something about use SBF to flash a stock rom. how do you do this for the Photon??? Can someone list the step? thanks
what happened? homebasephoton1.5 rom. I tried to install it but after I reboot I got failed to boot message........
It just means that the phone is unable to boot and is starting the fail-safe RSD mode... basically allowing you to use RSD Lite to flash a new SBF (basically phone image) to the phone to restore it. Are you rooted/unlocked?

Sorry that I didn't reply any sooner. This is what I did, since when the phone is with that problem won't charge the battery nor with charger nor with USB, so, I ran out of juice... I had to get an universal charger to charge the battery and then I flash it with RSD. I've flashed this file 154_5 sbf, once I got in, I flashed the updated one. It worked pretty good.
Let me know, regards.
when I am flashing sbf I have to remove my external sd card otherwise it wont work at all.
I changed to Alien Rom.after changing to alien rom I was facing a lot of FCs.So tried RSD lite with latest SBF.Now I am stuck at "Failed to boot 4 starting RSD mode"
From what I read from forums my phone is soft bricked.
"Failed to boot 4" is when a filesystem is missing a signature
The solution is to flash 154 sbf using RSDlite 5.5 version with a fully charged battery using the usb at the back of your computer.
Once you are successful flashing 154 you can update with latest SBF.
The important points are below.
1. Fully charged battery. (use an external battery charger as Photon does not charge batery in boot mode.
2. Used RSDlite 5.5 version
3. Use USB at back.
4. Use 154 not the latest version of SBF.
5. Make sure the process is not interrupted until the process is completed
Failed to boot 2
Im having the same problem and reflashing 154-5 doesnt work. Instead phone says "SVF:106:1:2
sec_execption: b655, eddc, eb.
It always fails on flash and re-enumeration.

just see what you can do by visiting this thread. no guarantees.
Yes, while I understand there have been many threads in regards to RSD Lite not recognizing phones, hear me out as none of them have been helpful to me. I recently got into the world of rooting and flashing roms, so like a fool yesterday I flashed Eclipse v.1 over 2.3.3. Ever since I have been experience the wifi connectivity issue, so reasonably I tried to use RSD lite to get the 2.3.4 sbf onto my X2. However, using RSD 4.5.3 I kept getting a status message along the lines of "chipset type 53 is not supported." Trying it again also with the 2.3.3 sbf, I tried using RSD v.4.9 and 5.3.1, however neither would recognize my phone. Now I am beginning to encounter other issues with Eclipse (my own fault) and I would greatly appreciate any input. All drivers are up to date for anyone who was going to throw that out again.
Be sure the machine you are running rsd on has plenty of disk space.
I got wierd errors a while back when i was running next to full on the HD RSD makes a temporary file before it flashes.

I have more than enough HD space. When running 4.5.3 it has the chipset error as the device status when paired with any sbf.
Are you running RSD as administrator? Maybe that could be a problem but i dont know.
If you are rooted and have installed system recovery try and flash the 2.3.4 zip aligned update in recovery and see if that works

It might be quicker if you enumerated, step-by-step, how you last sbf'ed ... that way, the more experienced amongst us can determine where you went wrong.
Oh, and throw in details on your computer's OS, too ... I hear there have been some problems using RSD Lite with Windows 7.

Also have u tried a factory reset from STOCK recovery? Not the bootstrap...STOCK...
Then see if rsd works
Aldo what method are u using to get to rsd protocol mode?
do u hold power and volume up? ((This is how I do it))
U can also find it with power and vol down then scroll down after u see dastboot on top...try both ways
I know I have had a couple timed where it took a few minutes for rsdlite to actually see my phone ...think it was trying to auto install drivers....
U try uninstallin moto drivers and reinstall? Something go wacky?
I use rsdlite 5.4.4 by the way

I have tried both methods of recovery, bootstrap and stock as well as the power+ vol up method and the method of accessing the RSD protocol through the vol down boot method. I have also tried reinstalling drivers as well. I also don't believe time was an issue with RSDlite as I gave each version a good 20 minutes to try to recognize my phone (excluding 4.5).

Hey there folks. I should probably preface this whole thing by letting everyone know that I have successfully SBF'd my DX2 in the past a few times, but most recently I keep getting an error in the middle of the process. Sine I've disconnected the phone after that error message, it's basically just been a brick. I've repeated the process a few times and I continue to get error messages at the same point in the process.
I also looked on the web and downloaded a new version of RSD Lite (5.4.4) and tried it with that version with still the same results. Originally I had decided to SBF in the first place because I had flashed the CM10A3 mod to my phone and there were all kinds of bugs making the phone unusable for that OS. I attempted to reflash something else (like the CM7.2 that I had running on it flawlessly) but the verbiage for that ROM said I needed to start from GB2.3.4, so I was afraid to go straight to CM10 from CM7. Admittedly, I am a little confused as to whether all new mods can only be flashed from GB2.3.4 or if it's okay to go directly from one mod to another, so a little advice there would be appreciated too......
So....is this thing savable???
Thanks in advance,
Scott

Hey Shadow....thanks for the advice as well as the great work on putting together the Linux-based SBF tool. I tried it and everything was going smoothly until it started to flash and very early on I got an error message:
"Uploading RDL03 failed 00080000/00300000

Any ideas??
sounds like hardware failure.
may not be fixable.
you can keep trying to flash the sbf with rsd lite or ezSBF
or you could try flashing the boot.img with moto-fastboot.exe
I'll post some links

read SBF "ACTUALLY" Fails... Need help with ADB fastboot
seems like same error
download moto-fastboot.exe and DX2 boot.img
move to a folder like c/root
and unzip both
boot DX2 to fastboot
a. Pull the battery.
b. Plug the battery back in.
c. Power up your phone by pressing and holding the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON and then pressing the POWER BUTTON until you see the words FASTBOOT (in white) at the top of the DX2’s screen. This should only take about 3-5 seconds
d. e. Press the VOLUME UP BUTTON and the screen will say Starting Fastboot protocol support, when you see that phone is ready
Open the CMD, (Start/all programs/accessories/command prompt and enter the these commands.
cd/
cd c:root
moto-fastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
So I flashed the boot.img via your instructions and everything seemed to go fine so I tried the ezSBF method but it failed again. I also tried to SBF via RSD Lite to see if that would work but it failed also. Clearly there was some king of progress though because this time I got 29% of the way thru the flashing process as opposed to only 4% like before flashing the boot.img.

Gotchya....will do!! I understand that the SBF process can be a bit finicky with USB cables too....I'll try a different one of those too. Thank you for your input!
Alright I will try to keep this some what short. I gave my X2 to my younger brother a while ago. At the time I think it was running CM 10, I can't remember for sure. I know it was 4.0+ though. He was having some errors popping up so one weekend I was home I was just going to reflash the ROM I had on there. So, that's what I thought I did. Tried to boot after install and would not go. I was not as familiar with SBFing and the likes so if I remember correctly I think I just tried to factory reset from recovery. After this I don't really remember what I did, but I do know it has not turned on since.
I just pulled it out again today and I am unable to do anything but boot into recovery. I can't boot into Fastboot to push files (just stays at Starting Fastboot protocol support). I can not get my computer to recognize the device at all (fastboot or adb). Even if there was a way to use RSD Lite I wouldn't be able to because RSD won't recognize devices either (I'm on Windows 8.1, have heard there is problems). What I do have though is an SD card and another Droid 3 that I can use to get files onto the SD card. Are there files that I can install directly off of the SD card in recovery mode that may be able to help me? I am pretty sure that the device is still on 4.(something) if that makes any difference. Sorry if this is confusing and thanks for any help.
Not sure about status on moto drivers for win 8.1
I would install divers installer from moto site
Link in my main page under divers issues sd_shadow's list of links for Droid FAQs, SBF, Rooting, ROMs....
Install drivers, reboot pc, then connect dx2, check win device manager for errors/unknown devices
This is for a dx2 for verizon network?
