Random restarts after downgrading to hboot 1.49.0007 - HTC EVO 3D

S'up folks!!
I rooted my Evo using the wire trick (was stressful but kinda fun)
Been trying to flash some Roms, CM10.1, for a while but getting bootloops and read I needed hboot 1.49.0007. I was on 1.53.something
I used the 'Free 3vo_v2' method and after a fre tries it worked although I never saw a progress bar, it just hung but after a battery pull I booted into bootloader and it was done! It relocked my bootloader at the same time.
So I was good to go. I installed CM10.1 but soon after reverted back to my daily driver, Viper3D
Since then the phone has been randomly restarting. It can restart every few minutes or last almost full day. One second its on, the next second I get the HTC logo, then the Viper3D logo and im back...... but for how long till it reboots again??
Anyone else had that happen??
Someone seemed to think its maybe a bad sector on my SD card??
Also I did notice that when doing a Nandroid I got 2 entries I've never got before:
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
No sd-ext2 found. Skipping backup of sd-ex2t.

firstly, you shouldn't have used that method to downgrade. use this method to downgrade and check whether your radio version is the latest. do a fresh install of Viper3D after that

I tried that many different ways to downgrade but using the Free 3vo was the only one I had any sort of success with.
That link u posted is one way I did not spot before so I'll give it a go but I just downloaded the file to my sd card the dropped into recovery and tried to flash it but it just aborted after about a second.
Maybe I need to do it via fastboot or as in 1.49 already I should upgrade again to then downgrade???

#1, Download zip (IN POST 2)
#1, Simply place the pg86img.zip on root of sd,
#3, Boot into bootloader and run the update
#4, Follow onscreen instructions
it will flash the bootloader, reboot, then flash splash img , then reboot
and your now in hboot 1.49.0007

i dont think you need to do it if your hboot is definitely 1.49.0007
check your radio version in bootloader and tell me that. and try to do a fresh install of viper3d and see if reboots persist

radio-11.25.3504.06_m
see attached pics.....
thanks for taking the time to help out!
edit: im gona backup my stuff and do a full format of everything and reinstall as soon as I get home.
I already did one a few days ago but did not format my sd card and I still got restarts
If it still persists ill try upgrading and then downgrading again with ur linked method.

Your hboot is fine. i have the same radio as yours and i dont get reboot problems. but recently people have been reporting these random reboot problems with cm and other aosp based roms and the fix for that seems to be to flash radio/baseband 11.77.3504.00P_11.25.3504.06_M
you can get it here. you have to flash it in bootloader. its worth a try

Thx, ill give it a go as soon as iv backed it up.
Can I backup my original radio/baseband??
Might be a dumb question... but when u say flash from bootloader is that the same as installing from a zip via recovery? in my case 4ext recovery.

i dont know if its possible to do that but this radio shouldn't have any adverse affects.
no its not the same as flashing in recovery. place the file on the root of your sdcard. then you need to boot into bootloader ("adb reboot bootloader" in cmd or hold power + vol down while powering on) . it should automatically detect the PG86IMG file and ask you if you want to proceed. select yes and then reboot when it completes

Yeah figured that out just before ur reply ;p
Only thing is, it finds the zip and asks to update so I say yes, it does its thing, I then hit power button to reboot, go through the startup steps as it resets the rom but once finished and back into bootloader im still on the same radio??? (RADIO-11.25.3504.06_M)

only your baseband will be changed. you need that P version. test it out now and see if the problem persists

baseband is still the same as it was as it seems to update but then rebooting back to bootloader show it as the same.
well I did a full format of everything including the sd card and a reinstall of Viper3D and so far no restarts but ill see how it goes for a day or so

Just floow the same process and start over
Relock in fastboot
Flash RUU and let it boot twice to finish - takes awhile so be patient since the RUU is not installed until you get the "press power to reboot"
Let it boot all the way and set it up
reboot to fastboot USB and unlock
Flash a recovery like Amon Ra
And you are good to go

The first one in the new RUU leak post is fine. Just download it again
Yeah, been doing this stuff for a long time and still took a little while to figure out that you basically have to do the whole flash twice. It basically just does the firmware the first round, and the stock ROM the second.
can anyone give me a new link to download?
minus is taking about 5 hours to download
and i got 4 hours left.
Go to Scott's Roms and in his forums he has a step by step prep with the Androidpolice link. If you have problems, try a different download link of the three shown. I had problems with slow downloads on all three and even a few corrupted files but it finally took. Keep plugging away at it, speed will depend on time of day and usage levels. Good luck.
thank you

Use any of the first 3 links, the 4th one worked last week but not anymore.

[Q] Stuck in boot loop -- typical fix not working

Alright, so I've got an S-On rooted Rezound and I'm stuck in the boot loop. YES I've read all the posts about logging in and dialing *#etc and also to go into Mobile Network and switch to LTE/CDMA, but I can't dial anything because the phone cuts off before I get a chance, and the LTE switch does nothing. I've tried flashing several different kernels, using the adb method and the PH98IMG methods, I've tried installing several different ROMS, I've done at least 10 different wipes/factory resets, I boot my phone without the cover, SIM card and without the SD card..and I'm still stuck in this boot loop. Someone please help a noob
---- EDIT WITH SOLUTION ----
Here's my "solution" to this issue. I'm sure it's located somewhere in these forums, but I couldn't find it so I imagine others can't either. Essentially, you're going to have to S-Off. Here's the solution:
I believe my recovery started acting funny after I failed to S-Off properly the first time. Amon Ra was all gimmicky and said stuff like "E: can't find cache" and reinstalling the recovery/wiping everything (and I mean everything: external SD, internal SD, cache, partioning SD card etc..) wasn't working. I tried re-installing Amon Ra through command prompt with the adb, I tried reinstalling my ROMS but my phone wasn't having it.
It got to the point all I could boot into was a white HTC screen, so I then tried out Twrp's 2.1 Touchscreen (I wasn't S-Off yet) recovery (I don't have enough posts to post a link yet ) which INITIALLY reported the same "E: can't find cache" errors as Amon Ra, BUT when I wiped my files in Twrp it seemed to actually fix them...I'm not sure exactly what I wiped or formatted that fixed the "E: can't find mount/cache" issues, so try everything.
So my ROM installed but I was still stuck on the white HTC logo. This is where I INSTALLED A NEW KERNEL THROUGH ADB. I wish I knew which kernel I installed, but I have like 10 and I just picked a random one. The point is if you're still stuck at a white HTC screen, install a new kernel.
So I got a recovery on the phone, and then I tried to S-Off again but I didn't have a good ROM installation so that was hanging at the HTC white screen. I then installed CleanROM DE 1.4 and I was able to boot into it, but ran into my initial problem of it crashing after dialing a number and entering infinite reboot. However, it would stay on just long enough for me to run ControlBear's program to S-Off.
So I S-Offed, I downloaded the Gingerbread RUU (the .exe version for Windows), I installed it, and now I can dial numbers and I'm all goodie again. Unfortunately, I honestly think the only way I was escaping my trouble was doing an S-Off, unless they leak a Ice Cream Sanwhich executable for Windows.
TL;DR Install Twerp 2.1 through adb, wipe everything, install CleanROM DE 1.4, install kernel S-Off, run Gingerbread RUU .exe

Have you tried running a RUU to put it back to factory like you just bought it?
I can't tell you how many times I've had to do that to fix stuff.

I think I have downloaded the stock RUU..but just to be sure could you possibly link me to the correct one to run? Also I thought it was impossible to go back down from Ice Cream Sandwhich to Gingerbread?

People say a lot of things are impossible, most have the virtue of never being tried.
This is the one I used to fix mine when I screwed up the partitions on my phone. I will warn you, the link in the thread takes you to another site & you have to sign up to download it. Its completely free & legit, but it won't let you download unless you register which is STUPID!

Let me know if that helps
Oh & BTW I was & still am on the ICS leaks when I did this, so you'll be fine. You will lose everything on your phone though, because it wipes everything. But if you can't use it, that's not really an issue I guess.

The PH98IMG file. And I believe I'm flashing the properly..I do it twice; flashboot in adb, it tells me success, I then flash again right there, and then I reboot back to the bootloader and flash again so I do it 3 times in total.
I'm downloading the Vigor executable now. It's going to take a while but I'll report back with my results.

PH98IMG is not going to help you in this situation. You are going to have to download & run the RUU that I linked in the previous post. Trust me on this, not only have I already tried that before, I've blown my phone up enough times to know.

Ok, I went to use the RUU and at first I got error 150, so I read somewhere I should lock my bootloader, so I relocked and now I get error 140, whcih is bootloader verision error. I think that's because I'm on ICS with S-On right? Is there any ICS RUU I can use to restore my phone? I downloaded Vigor_Stock_Doedexed_3.14.605.5 before but it still wasn't working for me.

And as far as this goes yeah you can't use the .exe if your on ICS firmware with s-on and there are no available .exe's for ICS

Unless you are already on the gingerbread build, and it sounds like your not, if you are s-on, it simply will not work. My suggestion is to download the latest leak and that should get you going. If it were me, and I aleady did it, download the latest leak here: http://android.thesmallprint.org/ICS.LEAK.3.14.605.5_PH98IMG.zip. Rename it PH98IMG.zip and put it on your external sd card. Should take less than 10 mins to download. Reboot into bootloader and let hboot install it. Make sure you are locked or relocked. After that is installed either delete or change the name of that file. Reboot into bootloader, unlock, and install either amon ra or tpwr and you can reinstall that rooted rom.
what he said
mikey's comments just previous are totally right, but after install, i would recommend
a factory reset, maybe even twice.
your bootloop problem should be cured then...
I was on the latest ICS firmware running an ICS ROM when I had to run the RUU I gave the link for & it worked fine for me.
Here's my suggestion & you can take it for what its worth.
I would download the latest HBoot & Radios & flash them.
Then if you can get into recovery, wipe everything, manually wipe the system, boot, etc. Then after that try running the RUU.
I just did this earlier in the week & it worked fine & my phone was all screwed up because the partitions were mounting to the wrong places & just all messed up.
I am by no means a dev or an expert, I'm just telling you what I did.
WHATEVER YOU CHOSE, YOU DO AT YOUR OWN RISK, but I don't see where you really have a choice.
Let me know if I can be of anymore help as I know what its like to have a phone that's freaking out on you. You can PM me or post here which ever you prefer. If after that we still can't get it fixed, we'll go find a dev to help us.

Well now my recovery is saying it can't mount various things like "E: can't mount b dev/block/ blah blah"
And I tried flashing my ROM through Amon recovery but it's saying it can't open the file because it's (bad). I formatted the SD card and I'm still getting the issue. Any ideas?
Did you download the one from the link? You don't flash that PH98IMG.zip in recovery, you boot up into bootloader and let hboot find it. If when you get to your bootloader and it is fastboot, use your volume key and select on bootloader option. Then hboot will find it and ask you if you want to install it. Install it. After that, you will then need to reinstall either amon ra or the other but stay away from clockworkmod. But to reinstall the recovery, you will have to unlock again.

I did install in hboot. I then installed Amon so I could flash the ROM and that's what's giving me all those errors.
If all you are after is stock and rooted, try looking at this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642217
Since you ran the PH98IMG that I directed you to, you are now on ICS. So follow the directions in that thread for "S-On and ICS".
Installation for S-ON Devices on ICS firmware
•Copy ROM to SD Card AND PH98IMG.zip to ROOT of SD Card
•Reboot to recovery
•wipe data / Factory Reset
•Flash ROM
•Use Developer Menu to reboot to bootloader and flash the boot.img file in the PH98IMG.zip
•Reboot
•Profit!
Edit: The only change I would recommend is to hold off putting that PH98IMG file from that thread on the sd card right away. You will have a hard time getting to recovery if you have that on the card. I would suggest following all the instructions up to and including "Flash ROM". Then I would "return" back to the main Amon Ra screen, make sure you have the data cable connecting your phone to the computer, select "USB-MS Toggle", then select the SD Card, and that will allow you to copy the PH98IMG file to the SD card. Then continue with the rest of the directions. If you do this right, you should be ok.

It's the actual recover I believe to be giving me the errors, but I'll try what you said in about 2 days (I need to study for finals). It might be because I tried to S-Off and I installed all of that guys software and it might be making the phone act funny. I'll be much more descriptive about my errors when I post back in 2 days.
I fixed it!!
Ok, so I finally got it working, I'll try to detail my steps for anyone else who ran into similar issues:
I believe my recovery started acting funny after I failed to S-Off properly the first time. Amon Ra was all gimmicky and said stuff like "E: can't find cache" and reinstalling the recovery/wiping everything (and I mean everything: external SD, internal SD, cache, partioning SD card etc..) wasn't working. HB 1.5 Unlocked S-On, can't flash any ROM.

Okay, here's the problem.
I have an EVO 3D
Hboot 1.50 S-On
HTC Dev method unlocked,
TWRP Recovery.
I'm currently runing a GB Rom, Warm Two Point Three, Its awesome, the best GB rom for me.
But its time to move on to ICS, the fact is that every time i try to flash an ICS Rom, I get in a Bootloop. It shows the boot animation, and it starts for like 4 seconds it shows the wallpaper and the notification bar, and it f*cking boots again and again.
I tried basic wipes, superwipes, modifiedsuperwipes.
I also tried to go back to stock 2.17 Rom, and walk it all along rooting and trying to flash an ICS Rom, but the RUU 2.17 failed every time, and it doesnt give a damn reason.
I even tried to update to Hboot 1.58, but didnt worked, in the bootloader, it detects the .zip file, and analize it, but it doesnt prompt for instalation, it just skip it and go to the normal bootloader screen.
I think its a problem just with this Evo, I flashed the ICSMeanROM to 3 Evos 3D, my wife, my brother, and a friend, and everyone worked very well.
So, im just able to flash my GB Warm two point three rom, and thats the only one that works i think.
Im not a total noob, i just have been a few moths out of the 3VO field.
Any ideas?
Thank you guys
ICS tends to bootloop for people who are s-on. Get s-off using the wire trick, flash an ICS custom ROM and your all set.

Try the following steps,
1. go to recovery > wipe & factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, go to mounts and storage, wipe system, data, cache, sd card... everything u can find there... wipe all..
2. in recovery DO NOT REBOOT, turn off phone
3. go to android development of evo 3d gsm, find a rom, for example mikrunny 1.06, open the archive extract the boot.img from the kernel folder.
4. assuming u have android sdk installed on ur computer, make a new folder and from the android sdk tools copy adb.exe, fastboot.exe, adbwinapi.dll (exact same files u used to unlock bootloader). also in this folder put that boot.img you extracted from the rom
5. put that folder in C:\
6. get back to phone , still DO NOT BOOT UP YET, and power up phone in bootloader mode (vol down & power) and go to fastboot
7. connect phone to pc in fastboot usb mode
8. open command prompt, type cd c:\"folder" ("folder" = folder u created with the sdk tools)
9. type in cmd: fastboot flash boot boot.img
10. after it's completed, go to recovery, still do not boot up phone
11. in recovery go to mounts and storage, usb storage and now copy the whole rom and nothing but the rom on the sd card
12. install zip from sdcard, select rom and let it install, it should boot up automatically
steps were given by SeptimiuB, I am just replying to your query because I've gone through the same mess and recovered as well.
Just be sure to unlock your bootloader and install a recovery before trying the above steps.
Cheers.

serious prob with evo

last night all of a sudden my evo just powered off and when i try to reboot , it wont reboot from power button, I can only get it to reboot from bootloader, and the after a few minutes it will shut down again. ive managed to keep it on long enough to try installing a nand. ..no luck still does same thing when the boot loader is loading it scrolls down and says no image installed / wrong image .. so i installed twrp again hoping that would work .. i tried wiping cash /dalvic ... and also factory reset and flashing rom again .. it happens on any rom so its not the rom anyone, have any ideas? .. im lazy panda s-off on cm 10.2
Make sure your recovery is up to date. If you don't have a ROM on your phone to flash, boot into recovery and mount storage and install a ROM from your PC. Do a full system wipe from recovery (not just a factory reset), then flash a ROM like normal. Also, the "error" in the bootloader where it says "Wrong image or no image" is normal-the bootloader is looking for a PJ75IMG.zip on your external SD card, so unless you have one, you'll get that message.
If all else fails, I would run ViperRUU. It will take your phone back completely stock, unrooted & S-on. You can then HTC Dev unlock and run Moonshine to get S-off again. You can run ViperRUU from the bootloader. Just follow the instructions in the OP. The link to VipeRUU is below.

[Q] EVo 4g LTE freezes during boot

Hello All,
Here is my situation - hopefully there is someone out there that can give me a little help.
I unlocked the boot loader using HTC method, installed TWRP, and then SuperSU. I did a backup with the TWRP, everything was working ok - except I kept getting an error message about the binaries being out of date on the SuperSu. Every time I tried to update them the the update would fail. So.... I went to the play store and installed an updated SuperSu, still no luck same issue.
About that time in the middle of a reboot - the phone got to the white HTC screen and just froze. Finally held the power button down till it started to reboot - got it into recovery and restored the backup. Same issue - goes to white screen and stops - I have left it for over a half hour -nothing...???
I have tried multiple ways of restoring the backup as far as wiping the cach, ect - still nothing.
Help!
Here is a quick update on this
I can still get into recovery - I can mount the sd card and transfer to it and I can still use ADB. so... I found a stock rom flash that was 3.15.651.6 copied it to the sd card then flashed it. Now the phone continually tries to boot reboot, gets to the white screen before going into fast boot - freezes then reboots itself.
Is it a brick? Any suggestions?
What is your hboot version? Are you s-off? What version of twrp are you on, and more importantly, where did you get the twrp from?
Thanks for responding!
HBOOT - 2.09.0000
S-On
TWRP - 2.4.1.0
Radio 1.13.11.0030
OpenDSP-v31.1.0.45.0015 EMMC-Boot
I got the TWRP from a Windriod setup I had used previously to set up old 4g lte about a year ago.
At this point I would be happy to just put it all back stock and then start over. I have never used a RUU but I have read you can install them from fastboot after running a few commands to make it recognize the phone. Has anyone ever done that?
Also - how would I know I was getting the correct RUU for this phone and where would I get it from?
When you're s-on, you have to flash the kernel separately, via adb fastboot.
I think that's what's keeping your phone from booting. Save a copy of the zip to your pc. Unzip the file, then flash the boot.img to your phone while it's in fastboot.
It should boot just fine now. But for the love of God, get s-off afterwards. You might also want to ruu to the new partition format, but that's a matter of preference.
Well , unfortunately that didn't do it.
I have tried a couple of times and also reloaded the zip and re-flashed. I think the problem is that if you watch TWRP as it is installing the zip - it gets to "installing kernel" and then crashes and reboots. I didn't notice it the first time, I thought it was finishing and rebooting but is actually crashing.
Ideas??
Wonder if I could make my own zip file without the kernel folder and flash that?
Or maybe its time to RUU through flashboot and start over?

I would RUU to the most recent Android version and get S-off if I were you.
I have never used the RUU before, I have a couple of questions about it
1) Can you RUU through fastboot
2) How would I know what version to use and where can I get one that I know is good?

1) Yes you can.
2) Click the top link in my sig. Scroll down to the bottom of the first post and look for the link to the Android 4.3 RUU. For installation instructions refer to the RUU section in the same post.
Perfect! Thank you vey much - phone is up and flying again!
I am now unlocked with twrp 2.4.1.0 and SuperSu 2.16
I also updated the software after the RUU to 3.17.651.9.7 - what method of S-off would you recommend and where can I find it?
Sounds like you used the wrong RUU, but at any rate, so long as your phone is up and running, that's all that matters. Hit the top link in my sig again and find the S-off method that corresponds to your current firmware version (Rumrunner or Firewater should work). Links to both exploits are provided in the thread.
