Hi Everyone,
I just rooted my friend's Note and I'm attempting to flash the latest CM10 nightly. I'm using the CWM-based Touch Recovery v5.5.0.4. Every attempt to flash CM10 has lead to the (status 7) error, in which the assert has failed. I've attempted to remove the assert from the script and the installation is simply aborted in CWM. (I feel like doing this is more of a work-around then a fix though, since I'd potentially have to do it every time I flash a new CM rom). Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if there is a fix out there. I've done a good amount of searching and haven't found anything.
Thanks in advance.
Update.
Sounds like an outdated recovery to me

Installed ROM manager. Update recovery, retry

Thanks everyone. I actually tried using ROMManager and it wasn't flashing the update for me. Key part I didn't explain :-/ Anyhow, I found the newest CWM and flashed the .img through terminal. Problem solved.
Thanks!
I had problems with this too I had to download the twrp kernel and then it worked fine.

Last year over in the inspire threads,, we affectionately began to call it rom "mangler"..
Koush did okay, but the turning point for me, was buying the touch version, then trying to get the app to flash the recovery back to the device.
It shows the I717 as unsupported, yet the CWM website has it.
But every time I try to download it ...I get garbled jibberish..
Hence TWRP ...version 2.3.2.3...and it's flawless
I think koush likes the money..
He has never replied to one pm or email I've sent ....g
Have to agree that twrp is the awesome choice. I've had cwm fail more than once to restore for me. Twrp is faster and drains the battery less. And as a shameless self promotion .. My American twrp theme is so sexy .. You'll want to go into recovery everyday.

Problem Solved. Found the correct version of recovery and bootloader. 4.2.2 roms will now install. Thank you to those who were willing to help. Now that I have educated myself on this tablet, I will begin developing for it.

Good morning everyone
Just yesterday, I chose to update my tablet to one of the xda posted JB roms. I'm coming from an ics build 38 AOKP that I've been on for several months.
After I'd confirmed a successful download, I performed all the necessary cleaning procedures pre-flash, flashed the rom, and was stuck at the splash screen.
So I went back to the ics build and attempted the same with a cm-10.1 build with the same effect. Upon asking the first developer for advice flashing his rom, I was advised to update my recovery which was an older 5.x version of CWM to which another member directed me to the latest version.
Prior to this, I had attempted to use rommanager to update the recovery. During that process something happened in which the device rebooted and froze at the splash screen. I attempted a reboot into recovery via power+volume down and when selecting recovery, I only got a black screen.
So I took the Odin route and dropped the latest cwm tar.md5 through pda in download mode which allowed me to freely re-enter the rom and reboot without issues. However I still only have a black screen when attempting to get into recovery.
Any advice on how I would be able to restore my custom recovery without returning everything to factory images and starting over?
Thank you to those willing to spend the time and effort to help me solve this problem.

You need to flash a new recovery. Grab a copy and install it using ODIN and you should be all set.

Thanks for your response. Are you suggesting that I flash an older version of ClockworkMod recovery? I already flashed the latest version through Odin which gives me the same black screen.

I misread what you said. Apparently you've got your rom installed but recovery isn't working, correct?
I had no problems on my 7510 using CWM v5.5.0.4 and with CWM Touch 5.8.3.1 - either of those should work if you flash them with ODIN or Mobile ODIN.

Ok cool I'll give 5.8.3.1 a try if I can find it. So, in my reading I was under the assumption that cwm recovery needed to be above 6.x.x for use with 4.2.2 jb roms. Are you currently or have been on a 4.2.2 rom with your tablet using the recoveries that work for you?

No, I've never tried any JB roms, so I didn't need the latest CWM. If nothing else, trying a different known-working CWM will at least prove that you're able to flash recovery and have it working.. then you can go find a 6.x recovery for the Tab 10.1.
Progress Report
So I managed to shell instal a version of TWRP and the recovery works perfectly! However, I am unable to use any roms except aokp ics (milestone6) lol
Could this be a recovery issue? Still somewhat unfamiliar with the Tab 10.1, I assumed there was an hboot that I could access to flash a recovery image but all reboot attempts into hboot (4.0.4) ended in a simple reboot.
Back to recoveries however, I attempted to flash different versions of CWM tars through Odin3 v1.85 and they all ended in solid black screens. Somewhat at a loss as only the Milestone 6 aokp build is accepted to my tablet and no other ics or jb builds. Somewhat off topic, is there no requirement to RUU upgrade the firmware to something later in order for the table to accept newer recoveries and hboots?

Problem Solved. Found the correct version of recovery and bootloader. I apparently have an unlocked p4tmo that runs a few p4wifi roms.. Anyway, 4.2.2 roms will now install. Thank you to those who were willing to help. Now that I have educated myself on this tablet, I will most likely begin developing for it.

So, let me start by saying I'm an idiot.
I made an attempt to update my CWM and CM rom the other night. Went through the update, updated CWM to 5.0.2.7 and attempted to update to the CM 10.1 rom. Received an assert failed error. Discovered after some testing an research that in my wisdom i flashed the international kernel for the YP-g70 on my us version of the player. I have attempted everything I can think of, including flashing the correct tar file through ODIN and even using the NAND wipe to attempt to start from scratch. 5.0.2.7 is still on my player regardless of what I have done and I cannot flash any roms.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

get your device in dl mode and flash entropys kernel
I'm assuming you're referring to the daily driver found here
Tried that, still doesn't work.

Here are all of the radio images that are currently available for the Note 2. These are packaged for flashing in recovery (CWM/TWRP). I'm posting these here because apparently the other images are all offline or unavailable anymore. I make no promises about these working, improving signal, or doing much of anything, but they're here anyway. If you need to know how to use these, flash your phone to stock and leave it locked, I'm not here to support stupidity. Enjoy.

Thanks for putting some updated links Imnuts. I try to keep them perma-saved so I don't have to worry about that problem when I need a modem lol.
Do you know if we're safe mix-matching modems and ROMs? Like could I run VRALL4 with the new 4.3 leak? I'm not liking this MJ9 on my phone atm.
Is the latest radio from today or is it from the leak?
Does this avoid us having to use ODIN to install the modem?
Anyone try the latest yet with official ota?

I got that part. I am so sorry, I didn't ask this correctly. What I'm trying to ask is, does this achieve everything that the ODIN package floating around does, which includes the modem and perhaps other things. I know it takes the phone back to stock as well. I have no idea why that would be necessary to install a radio. I've flashed radios before.
My goal is to be able to install one of the 4.3 TW roms that requires the MJ9 radio for wifi to work. If this achieves that goal, then flashing this file is clearly the way to go!!!
Thanks for this @imnuts !

I second this question. I am not going to bust out Odin. But if this is the same I will flash this and a new room at my leisure. I have been reading threads for thirty minutes and now I know I am not the only one that is wondering this.

Ive been on the leak for 5 days. I flashed modem in recovery with this same type of file from another thread. I had no issues. Just flashed official, this modem in recovery, and then latest devil kernel. I can confirm this works just fine instead of odin. Im wondering if the odin flashing might be causing issues for some. In 5 days i had no fcs and no reboots with leak.

I flashed the official, this modem and left the default kernel. For some reason, it would flash the sammy boot screen twice, then take me right back to recovery. Do you have to use an alternate kernel?

I flashed the zip, it said successful, installed new rom-and it says modem still is VRALL4.
This doesn't seem right.
Please excuse me if I'm being stupid-tough crowd here!
When I try to flash VRUEMJ9 Modem with twrp 2.3.2.3 it fails on an assert:
asser filed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "t0ltecdm
getprop("ro.product.device") == i605" ||
getprop("ro.product.device") == SCH-II605
Error in /external_sdcard/.../VRUEMJ9_.. (status 7)
(yes I verified the md5sum as 881d4b58aaf...a31b38 using MD5Checker)
I used this same setup to flash the previous radio.

There was another zip that was supposed to work but it never did for me anyway so i had to use odin. It will be worth it to have it done right 4.3 is great i run jellywiz

Yea I know and you can also reference it via google play. My problem is I am a bit of a newbie and it was not obvious to me how to install. You might ask how I got the current version - well that was a side effect of the folks making it really easy to crack the note 2 back in Dec (2012). You just ran this script and it cracked the boot loader and installed twrp (I believe it used odin) so I never really did learn how to update twrp.
This afternoon I tried the version of google play but it wanted to isntall an 'open bootloader" and I wasn't sure why it wanted to do that since my bootloader was already cracked and all I wanted it to do is to update twrp.

So I guess this begs the question do I download this zip file and then use twrp 2.6.3.1 to install it like a rom ?

That is correct. Simply download the zip, copy it to your sd card, boot into recovery, choose the zip and flash (just like you would a ROM. When you reboot, twrp will be updated. You can also download goo manager from the market. And choose "install custom recovery" I just find flashing the zip eliminates several steps ie software down loads etc.

If the error is a status 7.....your recovery needs updated. If the version of LS is 4.4, i don't think you are going to be able to flash KK with the 2.6.?.? version and that will give you another error.
There is an updated 2.8.0.? version which works for all newer KK roms.
Keep us posted
