Hi there
As you can gather from my signature, I have a Galaxy Note II running on Sentinel (which is based on Cyanogenmod) and I'm experiencing problems with HDMI.
Whenever I plug the small HDMI cable into my smartphone it freezes and reboots when I take it out.
I asked it in the Q&A forums of the Note II and someone said Android 4.2.2. doesn't support HDMI output, but I'm unable to find evidence on the Internet to support this claim.
So I was hoping if someone over here could shed some light on this issue.
HDMI output does work with ROMs based on Touch with, but strangely enough not on this ROM.
Thank you for any help!

Your issue is that it is an AOSP based rom. The HDMI is a Samsung feature and not supported by the AOSP code.

So asking for HDMI support is like asking for S-pen support?

Thank you. And there is no way to add it from other devices?

The Drivers needed are not open source So no there is no real way to add.
i'm trying to post this more so people can see, or if someone wants something from my phone for debugging
I'm running liquid smooth 2.4 d2att (4.2.2) and I've got HDMI working after recovering from a soft brick. I think installing the "stock kernel" fixed it for me but my kernel Info still shows as lean kernel 3.4 which came with the ROM.
This is what I did first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2314841
Obviously I wasn't reading nor did I understand what I was doing but I installed this
http://d-h.st/KhR
Which is clearly not meant for my d2att so I got the brick.
Did the SD card did trick on my 32gb SD card (my phones only 16gb and lol in that forum claimed you had to match SD size with internal storage for it to work, but it worked first try for me.)
I had to reflash the updated boot loader with Odin to fix the brick and then I was back to installing random stuff to fix hdmi
This is the "stock kernel" that got my HDMI working... Im still not sure this is a kernel or what happens when you install it over a different kernel but HDMI worked after installing
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1992483
I did a backup post brick and I'm not sure if I should tempt fate by trying out a different ROM with hopes I can get HDMI on them. Its sad but I'm not sure why no one cares to fix hdmi

When the SGP came out i was so excited to buy, and when i bought it, i tried to plug it in to my tv via mhl and to use ps3 controller on it...but it didin't work, so a grabed the nokia rca cable, didin't work either. I got mad at my brother because he is the one that told me to buy the SGP and he said that it does have tv out suport and usb host, but it dosen't. Anyways i have moved on and bought the Samsung Galaxy tab 7.0 plus, and it satisfy me all my needs such as playing games on tv, use usb controllers, mice, keyboard, flash drives etc.
Sorry about my horrable english and please don't laugh if something is written wrong. Thanks

Well, maybe that's a lesson to do a little of your own research before you go buy a expensive electronic device! Seriously though, it is too bad that there is no TV out, USB host I can live without. Btw, you can still use a ps3 remote, Google 'sixaxis controller Android'. All you need is a PC with Bluetooth to pair it, I beleive. I haven't actually used it as I don't have a ps3, but I, think other people with sgp have.

In my eyes, Samsung's deception is not even attempting an ICS update for a $200-$300 device that came out only months ago...
Then again, I'd rather use a community-developed ROM anyhow. In all my experience they run faster and more stable.

You are absolutely right! This has put me off any other Samsung device.
In my case, I was wondering about buy an iPod Touch or an other device then I decided to buy the SG S Wifi 5, 3 days ago I have no complaints it is a nice gadget.
It's sad that it will not get the ICS update because it is a great device , but as far I know it is not official (I'm not really sure). But you always find developers to build an ICS rom.

The roms are better tho because the have better features

I'd rather have CM9 than ICS anyway. Who needs TV out most of the time either? It'd be a cool feature, but I wouldn't expect a device like this to have it.

CM9 is ICS.
Do you mean you would rather have CM9 than an official ICS update from Samsung?

CM9 is based on ICS but it's cyanogenmod, not official.
And yes, I'd rather have CM9 than official ICS.

No AOSP firmwares do at this point - codeworkx and espenfjo are focusing on working the remaining bugs out of the camera first. A side effect of the camera work is signs of life from the MHL port - but usually just a frozen picture.

Hi guys,
Any news about the MHL?
I'm currently on 20120413 and everything works good, I Love CM9!
but MHL would be nice to have... the only thing that works when I'm using the MHL is the video... so I can watch Youtube on the big screen VIA my I9100, but games and Android OS are frozen on the TV..
There is some expectation of when it will be ready?
Thanks!

They're still fixing main issues such as external SD issues and the like. MHL doesn't seem very important to them at the moment, maybe in the future after the rest of the issues are fixed. I'd love to have MHL again but it's not too big of a deal.
Is there a decent non-stock/touchwiz that does support mhl? Does the AOKP ported rom work?

OK 10x!
yes I understand that MHL doesn't seem very important... Its just one of these things that are "nice to have" ... like the FM radio which is not important for me but I'm sure that there are others that waiting for this one too...
OK as always, we will wait and update the ROM from time to time... there is no chance that I'll get back to STOCK, this TW UI is ugly! pure ICS only

I have the Tab 10.1 and its rooted. But instead of flashing one of the roms available for the tab 10.1, I would like to flash a HTC Sense rom. Is that possible? If so, How can i do that?
(this might be a noob sorta question, but then I am a noob at this)
You can't. HTC roms are for HTC devices, Samsung roms are for Samsung devices and so on... Each device has different hardware. Only roms for galaxy tab 10.1 work.

Wasn't there a tutorial posted not too long ago on porting in the main page?
I'd like to know if the camera will work in this port. Also, will it become an HTC camera?
No, because the camera uses Samsung drivers.

OK, but you didn't answer my other question: will the camera become an HTC camera?
Tried to root galaxy tablet 10.1; followed all steps and was able to root my first tablet. Problem was I had no 4g only wifi. Does anyone know where I can get the correct rom? Also I notice that some of the newer 10.1 tablets have 4.0 firmware.

I want to use bluetooth controllers for gaming (Ps3 & wiimote), as well as using using a Bluetooth enabled dumbphone with the GP5. I am going to root my device, but I don't know if I want to install custom roms. Is there a simple fix for the Bluetooth protocols?
No one is going to respond or reply. A lot of unhelpful people round here. Trust me I have asked for help a few time and only once has some one gave me a hand.

Idk, it just doesn't seem to be a sgp 5 specific problem.

Alright well on all Galaxy devices pre-ICS how do you fix the BT protocols? I know on my GF's Epic 4G S2 Bluetooth was fixed with ICS but since the 5.0 and other players (all of them currently on the market?) won't get an official update and custom ICS roms mess up the camera it seems like a no win situation. Maybe I should just save more money and get a Galaxy Nexus.
maybe this is your solution ->http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=rUB-S7BwMH4
As far as I know, all you have to do is flash a custom gingerbread rom

Can someone port an ICS/JB ROM onto the Galaxy Player 4.2 (YP-GI1)? I really want to update my software, the 4.0/5.0 both have ICS on it and it would be great if my device could have it too, Thanks!
Development is still small. You are going to have to wait because I believe no one hasn't build a custom rom yet.

ICS porting worked chronologically:
The SGP 5.0 was the first to have working ICS ports and it took months before the Bluetooth bug was fixed.
Several months after 5.0 ports stabilized, some developers ported it to the SGP 4.0.
I suspect it worked this way, because there are a larger number of SGP 5.0 owners, hence leading to more output.
And, if my suspicions are correct, then it is going to be a very long while before the SGP 4.2/3.6 see any ports respectively, as I suspect that the number of people who own those devices is smaller yet.
It is feasible, but that would mean that a lot of our devs here who have done successful ports to the 4.0/5.0 would need their own SGP 4.2/3.6 to test their builds and ports on. And, I just don't see them spending money on an already under-supported device.
But, who knows? Crazier things have happened here on the SGP forums.
Is anyone working on this device? I have seen someone on the CyanogenMod Forums say that they have ICS on it but it's very unstable. Of course I can't believe that... But people got a root working using Odin3. If there is any developer that has this device and seeing this post, please.. reply! Thanks
Check this out
did it to my sons 4.2 player,he loves the rom. Check out this thread it has everything you need to upgrade-----http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1884071--- READ and good luck!!

Being rooted is a state of existence. You can add it or take it away at your disposal. Being rooted just means that you have the Super User binaries installed on your device. You un-root by uninstalling those binaries. Flashing a ROM with or without root simply means that the ROM you flashed has or doesn't have those binaries.
So, if you flash a rooted ROM over your currently rooted ROM, that's OK. That simply means you have older or newer binaries on your device. (And, yes. You can update Super User binaries.)
there is a rooted gingerbread stock rom, but I believe the dev that made it doesn't even have a 4.2 and had to rely on others to test it, even the 4.0 has a very small number of devs on it, and half the ones we've had in the past have moved on to newer devices. I doubt there will be any ICS/JB goodness for the 4.2 simply because there are no devs that actually own one, atleast as far as users on here go, maybe some guy somewhere might be working on it but they sure aren't here.
Yeah I used that exact ROM anyway to get the rooted gingerbread ROM but thanks anyway
