Kernel wakelocks: phone awake at night sometimes - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sometimes my phone wakes up at night. I'm not sure why. I didn't have this "issue" using CM10.1 but it does happen on a custom sammy rom. Anyone who knows if this takes more battery than it should?

I'm using Alliancerom v7.3 with Siyah v6b5 for those who would like to know.
Wondering what vbus_present is...
Verstuurd van mijn GT-I9100 met Tapatalk

Vbus_present means you are connected to charger . This is strange :|
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium

Yeah, google told me so but it confused me. How could the vbus present process be running if the charger isn't connected? Since this process appears to be causing the wakes.

Have you dropped your phone in water ? And what carger do you use stock samsung charger?

Nope. And it has not been used in the rain this year yet.

Well I think your case your related either to:
1- Non standard Samsung charger which may not inform the phone properly that it has finished charging to cut off charging current.
2- Are you using any app for battery monitoring like Battery Info or so which pops up when you start charging? If so try to kill it (Hold back to kill) as soon as it pops up and see.
You might try also restarting your phone when it finishes charging and see..
Hope it helps..

Hello! I faced a problem like yours. In my case solved the problem an AirPush type adblocker. It was found 2 apps that used this ad technology (these tried to connect to internet and during this operation they switched on the phone's display). When unistalled that 2 apps, this problem was gone. I advice to you try to find the AirPush Detector on the Play. Install it, then remove that apps, what it marking and let see what will happen. Maybe it could solves your trouble.

It might also be problem with the usb flex cable I believe it is. A few users have reported this. I believe the part is around $5.
Have you tried to flash back to stock? To see if that helps

Phone not switching on: Battery and phone very hot

Just woke up and my phone is boiling, especially touchscreen and battery. Its not switching on, I left it on charge like I do every night.
Just to let you guts know, never flashed or rooted my s2. Its still on 2.3.4 with kernel 2.6.35
Turn the phone off remove battery and let it go cold .
Then connect to Samsung charger and see what happens .
Problems
One factory reset after backing up data .
Two try a another/new battery
Three return to service .

Try with another battery, I'm pretty sure that that will help

We've had it happen when a app has "hanged" and not closed on Gingerbread. Haven't had it happen yet on ICS *touch wood* .. phone gets hot and huge battery drain quickly.. even while on charge.
Maybe a recent app you have installed has caused the hang?
leaving your battery on charge overnight is NOT the problem
I posted this few days ago, I'm having another problem now, unsure if its linked to this. But occasionally when phone on charge, I'm getting a pop up notification saying 'battery paused, temperature too low or hot'
This happens regardless of the battery or charger. I've taken screen shots of they help. Battery temp is 67 with condition over over heating. How do I solve this

Bump, anyone?
Have you a bumper on the phone or other case protection ?
Depends on which battery I use, if its the official 2000 mah battery then I use a cheap £1 mesh case. If its the standard battery then I don't use any. The extended battery is now charging.
A friend with a phone shop told me to warm the batteries up before putting them on charge and to my surprise its worked, weird since batteries were saying over heating

[Q] Battery charges to 40% max :(

Hey,
I got my new S3 yesterday and I plugged it in before booting the phone so it could charge, I didn't let it charge to 100% though.
And now, after being plugged in over night, it just charged to 40%. Never goes above.
My version is XXLE8 stock.
Now after 3 hours of usage it is at 33%

The big hill is the time it was in charging status over night.
Can I wipe the stats somehow or what do I have to do?
Thanks
Hi,
Which kind of charger did you use? The original one? It's like you used a less powerfull (ex: <1 A output). Your charging profile is strange effectivly...
Can you install baterry monitor widget pro and say us how is calibrate your battery (mAh) and if your charger is configure at the right intensity (the original one is a 1500 mA).
Try to charge it turning off your phone.... and eventually wipe battery stats (useless but...)
I am friend with same problem. hoping someone can help.
My original charger is off or the signal that he is carrying. bought mine yesterday.
Im charging with the original charger that came with my S3 (USB cable with a power adapter thingy, you know)
Here is a screen shot of Battery Monitor Widget. I plugged it in a few minutes ago.
There is a calibrate option in the app, but I dont know what to type in there.
You have to make a 40% cycle charge and you'll check several informations about your battery properties... After this, you will have to define 2100mAh for your battery and 1500mA for your charger output intensity (using parameters windows).
Wait and see... Do you have another charger to test?
It is charging now with the original S3 charger and is at 39%. Lets see if it goes above now.
I have a charger from my old Galaxy S i9000 (original) here, too.
First your battery capacity is configure at 1500mA in your screen... It's not the right one! You have to change it via calibration menu/add newer battery
OK I will change the two parameters and then use it for one day and report back.
It is now at 41% but it is climbing very slow. It climbed from 33% to 39% very fast and then it slowed down dramatically.
thank you
You juste have to make a great 100% charging cycle and see...
I put to find matching with a more powerful charger in my galaxy tab 7 plus.
Can it cause harm?
With the original charger from S3 is no more than 40%.
At Battery Widget information also were wrong, now I have got.
Appeared at 1500 mAh.

No you can't , your battery just need 1,5A output, if your charger output is 2A, it'll not give more then 1,5A...

Hi, I changed the settings in the app and it charged to 100% with the original S3 charger. It took a while however.
And as you can see the battery is quite good.
I hope this looks good, does it? Or is something broken?
Looks good.... Let it have some full charge cycles for full calibration and it will rock

cwm installed and I ventured to install several custom roms, and inform all of the battery with 1500mAh. even now returning to stock rom remains the same information. I'll have to create a new battery in and inform widget Baterry 2100mAh.
on the charger, went to the store and exchanged the part, and is now carrying normal.
Just use it fora few days to a few weeks, than it should be fine.

lower voltage level of LEDs?

does any one know which file I have to mod to lower the voltage of the led buttons as yhey are very bright and iy might help.with the light leak
thanks
To turn led down you cannot lower the voltage. They are not like usual lights with a wire in it.

yes I can lower the voltage thats why im asking which file and not if it's possible
NO you cannot! Led is a semiconductor diode, it is
determined by the energy gap of the semiconductor. If you lower voltage this gap cannot been exceed in this case and there's no current conduction. So there is no light emmiting from led.
For lower light emmiting you have to use other diode.

Dimmable LEDs have been around for quite a while now.

Why are you asking what file to mod if you clearly have an app that lets you mod it?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I don't know much about dimmable LEDs. Maybe you can describe me how the led of the s3 working. Instead of this you want me to shut up. Useless communication.
I could imagine there are LEDs with more than one semiconductor gap included. So variation of voltage can activate different light emmiting semiconductor in one led in my imagination.
But don't know exactly.
Maybe there are people knowing this...

I know it's an app, Im not sure whether changes have to be made to the kernel or some other file to controll the voltage of the LED driver and where these changes have to be made
Lets keep things polite and on topic chaps, remember to treat your fellow members as you would want to be treated yourself.
Diode current is
i=Is(exp(Vd/(nVt))-1)
Usually there is a series resistor too. Brightness is very much dependant on voltage. If the voltage is 2.5volt, there is probably 1volt across a resistor - this gives a lot of control.

Galaxy S3 Media use higher battery life and slow charging

Hello!
I brought Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 three weeks ago. First two weeks there's no any issue. But after several factory reset, I have a big issue with its charging and battery like.
Now I'm using the pure stock ROM with root and official CWM (flash the stock firmware using mobile ODIN). Also use triangle away pro version and reset flash counter and status to normal. I read few threads and they mentioned re-installing stock firmware fix this issue. But in my situation, charging increase in some amount.
My phone takes more than 4 hours to fully charge (with Samsung supplied charger) also, battery drains rapidly.
Device info.
Model number:- GT-I9300
Firmware:- I9300XXEMC2_I9300ODDEMC1_SLK
PDA: I9300XXEMC2
CSC: I9300ODDEMC1
MODEM: I9300DDEMB1
I just installed the BetterBatteryStats. Is it a software bug or hardware issue? Can I manually fix that issue or should I submit it to the service center to fix this issue? I have two years warranty.
Here's the battery usage screenshot.

The earlier Samsung chargers are better, the ones in one piece including a flat ribbon cable. You can get them on eBay for a couple of £.
If media is running for more than just a couple of minutes after reboot then your sd card may need reformatting, or you have many thousands of tiny files on it?

I'll check on ebay. Thanks for that.
I have 2.13GB mp3 files (65 mp3) on my SD card.
Looks like slow charging related with the battery stats file, after I manually deleted, my galaxy S3 charging normally (with Samsung charging kit). Need to test it again.

10 hours to recharge 75%? This can't be normal can it?

I've had this N9 LTE for about a week and a half, so i'm still not used to it fully, but this, this can't be normal right? I havn't seen a device take 10 hours to recharge 75% since the first iPhone in 2007. Plus I have ElementalX Kernal with fast recharge enabled...I don't get it

find a good cable and a good 1.5A-2A charger, the junk HTC gave us is something out of their "just include something" bin. I haven't even taken the stock charger out of its packaging. its good in a pinch when you must have a charge, but not worth using on a higher power device like the N9.
also, give a kernel like elementalX a try, it should enable faster charging..
anker makes some good self regulated (based on needs) multi port chargers, give those a try with some anker 1' cables.

I'm using my note 4 fast charger and cable. Can't be better quality than that. And as mentioned, I'm already on ElementalX
After you change the cable you might realize that this won't solve the problem. Most of the times it works better if you simply reboot the tablet, the charging time will significantly decrease (~3-4 h depending on your kernel). Share if something changes.

Yeah that's not normal... I would now try the stock charger... That's what I use and it works fine... If that doesn't help then I'll would call Google for a replacement
I'll wait for 5.1 to come out and will take a decision then. Thanks for your input
it's not normal for this to happen, but i've seen a few threads where this does happen and it doesn't matter the kernel, charger or cables. sometime the device gets stuck at charging at less than usb 2.0 speeds. it doesn't happen all the time, but it's pretty crappy when it does happen. one suggestion was to unplug and replug each time you charge it to hopefully not get stuck with the bug through that charge session. when i do catch it trickle charging i just replug it. i generally charge in just over 4hrs for a full charge using a samsung note charger and cable.
I have been using the stock charger with a third-party USB cable (I needed something longer) and it has never taken more than 3-4 hours for a full charge.
Try using Ampere app from the play store to test different chargers and cable combinations. It helped me to eventually go with a iPad charger and a 20awg 1m cable which charges at an average of 1700mha which means a full charge of about 3hrs or less (stock ROM + ElementalX fast charge enabled)

Not sure if this is the same issue, but when I charge my n9 overnight, the battery indicator only shows like 23% charge. However, if I restart the n9 it updates and shows 100%.
Anyone have that issue? Buy
I think my Nexus 9 charges faster with the Fire-Ice Kernel
