Looking into buying the lapdock 500 just got a few questions..
1. Is it worth buying if i have laptop and a xyboard already?
2. Do i have to have a separate data plan or could i just use it as an upgrade from the xyboard?
3. Still worth buying since it has been out so long? Anything newer coming out in the near future?
I have a droid razr maxx and the droid xyboard 8.2. I primarily bought the xyboard for school to take notes on and basic research while in class instead of lugging around my dell. Lapdock seems to be more of an all in one package. Any suggestions?

My opinion: I think not worth it.
i don't have a lapdock but at the beginning when i got my rarz i was gonna buy it too.
but the problem is that i have a laptop and a desktop (in your case a tablet) why would u need the lapdock?
in my case it would be so awesome to have and do a lot stuff with it for the first week or month but you're gonna get bored and is not gonna be the same as a laptop, but if you're not using your xyboard then you could try it. but let me remind you that motorola won't launch more new cellphones with lapdock support so you're gonna waste that money, if that's not a problem for you then buy it. but for what i see naa it's not necessary.
PD: Sorry, bad english ^^
No, not worth it. The lapdocks do not work properly with the newer Stock ROMs. So don't waste your money. They also do not work with most (if not all) custom ROMs.

Does anyone else think that the ICS tablet interface in webtop means that moto might release a tablet dock with touch just like the phonepad? I would love to buy one. And if it did come out I would feel my purchase was definitely worth the money. Please moto, give us a webtop tabley dock!

So I am currently eligible to upgrade my phone through Verizon and I have been trying to figure out which phone to buy. I have been using a Droid X for almost 2 years and I absolutely loved it!
I rooted my Droid X shortly after buying it 2 years ago and have learned most everything a rooted user needs to know
(ex. Flashing custom ROM'S, using CWM recovery to create Nandroid backups, using an SBF to return the phone to out of the box software)
and I even learned how to use ADB commands to flash the Motorola stock system images when I had a Motorola XOOM tablet
That being said I really enjoy all things ROOT like over clocking and under volting, and of course flashing custom ROM'S so I guess my question to the Droid RAZR community, many of whom I'm sure are allot like myself would simply be...
Do you REALLY love your Droid RAZR or Droid RAZR MAX??? Is there allot of development out there for this phone? Are there custom ROM'S and the ability to use the Wireless Tether function?
Any advice and personal experiences with this phone would go a huge way toward helping me decide if I want to make the jump or not! Thanks everyone!

I can really recommend the RAZR, I do love my phone! The only thing I regret is not waiting for the MAXX, but on the other hand, no one knew it was coming when i bought my phone!
I bought the RAZR because I wanted a phone that survives daily life. I sail a lot and my phones usually die by moisture... The RAZR isn't water proof, but it has some water resistance. Mine have taken some blows as well and survived.
The only real con I can think about is the locked boot loader, but now that kexec is released it should not be a problem any more :fingers-crossed:
I love my Maxx, great battery life! Since ICS upgrade GPS is not as quick, occasional lag, but far better than any android I've ever owned.
That being said if I were due for upgrade I would probably pick the S3. As long as it wasn't as bad as the previous galaxies I've owned... Love the size and the big screen. But that's just me. The Maxx is awesome though. I would get that rather than the RAZR for the awesome battery life.

If you want all day battery get a maxx, but since the bootloader has only recently been fully bypassed it will be a bit before a completely asop based rom will be at daily driver standards. That being said there are some very nice roms built on the moto kernel. I personally don't think the og razr would be worth it, but the maxx will bring you back to 2 days of battery life you may have once had with an old school dumb phone.

Get the galaxy s 3 or wait for the razr hd.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone, does anyone know if the RAZR HD is supposed to be released soon?
And if so I would imagine it will be some time before a root tool is released along with any other development...
Btw is the bootloader bypassed on the MAXX through some kind of bootstrapper app? similar to the old DROID 2 Bootstrapper program?

If you want a good wireless radio and good battery life get the RAZR Maxx. If you're into rooting and flashing stuff I don't know if the RAZR series is the best choice.
See what the next Google phone brings, I'm thinking they're going to the GSM carries this time but who knows. I've heard stuff about there may be more than one Google device by different manufacturers. If true Verizon may get another. Or else wait to see what this rumored RAZR HD brings. Then make the decision if you can wait a few months lol.

So i spent about 200 bucks on a Virgin Mobile HTC one V. I love the phone and all but Sprint/Virgin absolutely sucks where i live at and i did some research and saw that wirefly has the droid razr at 49.99
I am thinking of potentially going with the Rezound for 30 bucks more(I like htc phones) or maybe even be a bit cheap and go Droid charge.
Haven't decided yet.
Is this a good phone to buy in september 2012?
It does have ICS right?(not a big deal, i was fine with Gingerbread with my old phone before i got the One V)
Generally I am looking for
1. Good Camera
2. Little to no lag
3. Good music volume
I really don't care if the processor or specs areout of date, i just want to know is this phone a good phone to buy
Any issues? and is the community active?
thanks guys

The community is VERY active especially on droidrzr.com camera isn't that great (given with moto phones). It does have ics and almost some stable jellybean roms soon. If you want to wait moto should be unveiling the razr HD in 2 days. Better processor but smaller battery. The charge is a piece of crap don't bother with it haha

I'm leaning towards buying it this Thursday.
If I do, on a scale of 1 to 10...for a newbie how hard is rooting.

Basically, if Motorola doesn't upgrade your 2011 Motorola smartphone to Jelly Bean they will (most likely) give you a $100 credit towards a new phone. Limited details right now but I signed up for alerts. Rumors are X2 will be one of these phones.
So if you are looking to a new phone I would wait a few weeks. I'm probably going to be switching to the Razr Maxx HD (complicated name!) when it comes out and a $100 credit would be amazing!
Opinions? Anyone still use an X2 besides me?
I'm not so sure if it would be worth it. You need to trade in your old phone and the x2 is selling for at least 100 on swappa and other sites so why not choose cash over a gift card?
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
It's tempting...the $100 plus I do like how strong the build quality of this motorola phone is and the razr's do seem pretty tough as well, but I will probably pass and get something like a samsung note 2 or an htc incredible x that does/will have an unlocked bootloader. Plus I dont want to trade in my X2...rather keep it as a backup or wifi device that my kid can play on.
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda app-developers app
We're definitely not getting JB. $100 is nice, but it's probably towards only moto devices. Which is fine. Razr HD for me when my upgrade is active.

How long does the offer last? My upgrade isnt available until April of next year. $100 off a $550 phone is still expensive. I'll probably end up switching from Motorola anyway when the time comes.

Your upgrade should bring it down to $200, plus the $100 off. And since you have moto now, they should honor it well into next year. My upgrade is in March, but I might swing in around January and see if I can get it a month or two early.
Definitely sticking with moto. I've had numerous Samsung devices that I've needed to have replaced. Not a single problem with my DX2, and it takes a serious beating. Moto definitely makes the best physical handsets, period.

I agree about Motorola phones being built well. My x2 is over 8months and still looks new. I had the LG Ally before this and it was a good phone too...it looked brand new when I gave it away it just needed a new battery.

My DX2 also looks like it just came out of the box.
We still have an Ally getting used everyday in our household. It looks a bit worn, but not bad. It even survived a run in with a toilet, lol.
Just a bump with a story I read today
I saw this today in a Mozilla newsgroup and thought folks here would be interested.
Onto the story: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57526994-94/android-users-outraged-over-motorolas-broken-promise/
My X2 has been to the bottom of a local river on fishing/kayaking this year twice ! Never stopped working.....got a little glitch for a bit but kept on ticking. Still looks new also.....they are great devices. It will be hard to give mine back. But
with the work of DZK its made me want a phone capable of full Jelly capabilities.

I got my $100 credit towards the razr HD and it is sick. It is probably the best choice out there from Moto, and it makes the x2 look like a joke.

Has anyone seen a timeline on this? I'm not eligible for an upgrade until January--wouldn't want to miss out on this.
I've had my eyes on the Razr Maxx HD--wouldn't want to miss a free $100

Just to clarify, does the phone have to be returned to VZW in an unrooted state, for them to honor the $100 offer?

Hi
A relative is going to US this week and I'm thinking of buying this model on ebay to deliver at his hotel.
The droid x2 seems to have good specs and a low price($98 on ebay). I'm not looking for the latest or most powerful hardware(my last phone was a sony xperia x8 until last month because I jumped into water with it). This one seems to have the best cost x benefit for me
I have the following questions before I decide to buy it:
- Does this phone works with gsm networks outside US? I'm interested in using it on brazil.
- Are there good/fast roms that work with it? I care mostly for speed and working features such as camera.
I was considering the droid 3 because it has a phyical keyboard(which is a big plus for me) but I've read that there are no roms that have the camera working(which is blocking because I most certainly would like to use its 8mp camera). I would also appreciate suggestions of alternatives with similar price/hardware.
Thanks
the droid x2 is cdma only, try the d3.
