Hi guys,
Today I received a call from HTC saying I have to pay for the service.
They said my WiFi doesn't work coz I unlocked and rooted my phone. ( WTF, the guy's a total idiot.. just won't listen )
I escalated the issue to the senior most technician with little success.
It has a faulty MB and now I have to pay $100 now to replace it.
I feel like being cheated. I have to pay for their faulty hardware.
I've decided, this is definitely going to be my last HTC.
Regards,
navmad
Thats really sad bro.. you should have relocked and unrooted it before giving..

And after unroot, some crappy bloatware must be missing making them think that it was removed via superuser.

I noticed it when I was on the new JB ROM. The phone suddenly restarted and WiFi was not turning on.
I checked the logcat. It pointed to faulty hardware. The wireless interface was switching on and off.
I switched ROMs just to confirm. I knew it was hardware issue.

I must have missed something. I asked the senior technician how unlocking results in faulty hardware and he really didn't have anything to
say. Finally blurted out this sh*t .. "Its company policy sir. htcdev.com is only for developers, People who don't care about warranty."

Ya I know bro.
Anyway I'll get back my phone stock and locked. Hopefully on friday.
Gonna unlock it the day I get it.
Does Samsung/Sony give h/w warranty after unlock.??? I just wanted to check before I buy my next phone.
Anybody???

Why would they ?
My friends with galaxy s duos and s3 say that they also void warranty after unlock and using Odin.

It depends on whether the bootloader is locked or not , and this of course depends on the phone model .
Many Samsung devices bought on contract from Orange in my country do not have a locked bootloader (Mini 2 doesn't , S3 Mini doesn't , S3 - depends on the carrier) . The thing is you have more chances of faking a Samsung to look like its root hasn't been touched than you would have with any other brand .
Samsung has something called a bin counter - this increments each time a flash has been done on a phone (excluding recovery flashes) . This can be , however , reset to 0 , but it really depends on the phone model . Combine that with removing root access , eventually reflashing the stock firmware and you've got yourself an out-of-the-box-like phone .
Best thing to do is to carefully take a look at the development status of a device before buying it . See what you can do to it and what you cannot P
You should of just played dumb, if my contract provider asked me that I'd pretend to be a simpleton from the village and make up some BS like "My Dog eat my phone and when i got it back it had this strange app installed called superuser." Then hey presto! free repair but your dog would probably get sued by HTC so be warned!!

You still have HTC's Warranty, as for Verizon.. A store Visit they won't really bother going as deep as checking the bootloader... A mail in to Verizon they would notice once they try to Debug it before selling it off as Refurbished and sending you another
But DO they check and debug that deeply. Going to a store is really just not an option for me and I don't want to be stuck with a defective phone if I can't get it replaced and its a hardware problem.
EDIT: Also, what does HTC's warentee cover vs. Verizon's?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
HTC claims they will cover all HW issues NOT related to unlocked bootloaders. Verizon is kinda up in the air. I can say plenty of people have said that they have sent multiple phones back to Verizon while still rooted and s-offed, so not just the rezound and have never been charged.

In all reality it comes down to the individual person at Verizon who checks the phone... Somebody might load up the Bootloader and See "Unlocked" and all hell breaks loose... Or some dude might just ignore it and flash a Factory Locked Bootloader and move on..
As for Warranty IDK.... Check the manuals that came with the phone
So, here's the better question, has anyone here actually been slapped with a fine for returning an unlocked bootloader?

The damn phone stopped working because of his damn recklessness. The phone didn't break; rather he broke it.
Also, you mention paying...paying what? We're not talking about insurance here; we're talking about a warranty. You don't pay for a warranty.
This type of reckless and unethical behavior is one of the reasons you see locked bootloaders on devices.
Will AT&T warranty services replace my phone for a hardware defect?
I've had my phone since release and the glass is raised on the left. At first it was something I could deal with but it actually seems to be getting worse. I feel it every time I pull down for notifications.
It's been too long to get a replacement from the store I bought it from so I'm wondering if AT&T will help me.

One more time, since it seems it's never clear:
Warranty is for DEFECTS, like the gaps, raised screens, etc.
INSURANCE is for **** that you do to your phone, like a broken screen, liquid damage, fire, theft, etc.
AT&T covers your phone with a 1 year warranty regardless of if you have insurance or not. The insurance extends the warranty past the 1 year though.

I don't think you should do that. You said you called AT&T, but I was told by the repair department that going to a store and reporting your problem would get you a new phone.
That's not always the case. Every time I've gone to the store after the initial return period has expired, I'm told I have to deal with warranty services. In fact I have had sales reps in the store call them for me. Store reps have little to no power unless you are dealing with a store with a repair center on site. There isn't one of those within a hundred miles of me, so I just call warranty services.
Btw. New phone arrived yesterday and it doesn't have any problems.

Absolutely not. Maybe if it's a repair center (which are relatively rare), but outside of those shops all AT&T warranty work is done over the phone.
Ok, so I'm an impatient little bastard and I want to get my phone s-off, but I took the OTA. So, I'm considering "accidentally" dropping my phone in the toilet or bathtub or something, and getting it replaced through the insurance. Here's the only problem: does anyone know if the phone that will come from Asurion will be brand new or "refurbished", and will it already have the OTA preloaded on it, or will it be just a fresh phone with no updates?
