My rom is full stock .431 ICS version but the same problem happens on .587
The return button sometimes lags and doesnt work. After few spam clicks it starts to work again. The touchscreen in that place of the screen is working so it must be something else.
Any idea what to do? Or I have to send it on the guarantee.

If you have never rooted and most importantly unlocked boot loader then my advice Is that you should send it to service center asap..

It's a known problem, many people get this. Sometimes they "spam" the button to fix this or lock and unlock again or reboot. As far as I know there's no fix, yet....
Maybe really bring it to service if you never rooted and bootloader is locked...
On some LWW forum people told me that it also happens to people with GB and after they send it to service they just flash new rom and thats all. The guarantee is 2 years and I can do everything they will do there here at home , so better not to lose 2 weeks without a phone..
Some people also have problems like it with the right button (menu) . For me it's working fine.
Well thanks for info anyway. I'll keep with it for now. If it gets worse I'm sending it to service.
-1 point to Sony Ericsson for a bug on the whole model line
I also sometimes happens that problem flashing the tft try again or repair with PC Companion but can you solve the problem
I found the reason. Dirty screen on return/menu place...
After I cleaned it and made it dirty again its the same, so it's not a soft or hardware problem
Just keep the screen really clean

ahha my LWW is always dirty after a full day of use xD, I'll take your suggestion into account, would play around with a cleaning cloth to keep the screen to avoid this problem :highfive:
Sometimes when i press the power button on the side of my phone my phone will not fire up. I see the screen really vague. I need to press the button sometimes more them 10 times in order to get my phone working. It looks like the backlite is not working good. It is starting to piss me off.
Anyone else experiencing the same kind of problem?

Hey,
Sorry to say I don't know the answer to your question, but there is one thing I'd like to share with you. Samsung OLED displays don't have backlite. So it can't be broken either. Good luck finding a solution!

Flash stock, if still not working, triangle away, Send it back..

I can sent it back but i dont want to miss my phone for some weeks if i can fix it myself. Then i have to go back to my S1
So you want a defective phone? Even if you fix it, you still have a defective phone. Get it sent back to the store or Samsung.. Surely you can live without it for the benefit of the time it comes to sell the device.

Are you sure you are on the most current official ROM? (This would be, starting today, Jellybean in a few countries)
Some old offical ROM's sometimes had the issue and it was annodying as hell. I have not seen it since switching to leaked Jellybean builds.
As the previous poster already said; there is no backlight so you should not be able to see anything. Maybe your eyes are playing tticks on you or you got some app such as ScreenFilter to act up.
It's happened alot over past two weeks and it's now done it 3 times in past 2 1/2 days. Screen stays black press any button does nothing and hold down power still does nothing. Only way is to hold volume up and power for 3 vibrations then power back on its really annoying and must be due to some problem....?

am going thru this currently ... and i cant do anything to the device at all! urs might work after the restart ... i've done the power button/volume up restart that didnt help ... did the emergency reset using the red button also didnt work ... the phone is running in the background as i can still receive whatsapp msgs but i cant view them as am receiving "inititalbootsetup" isnt responding either close or wait ... and again both of these options arent working ..
Go to settings and disable auto brightness. I'm not sure why it works, but after researching for a while on this same issue, this is the setting that worked for me. Try it and update us if it works.

Did you guys update to 257 without wiping? I didn't wipe, but there might be some bugs sticking around from 532. Do a factory reset (full wipe if you have recovery) and see if that solves it.
any updates on this issue .the device screen simply doesnt wake-up from sleep ,unless you hard reboot .
i'm on 290 stock ,and testing the auto brightness disable method.
update : issue persists with auto-brightness disabled .
Hmm, it has to be a software bug. I can't see how this could be a hardware issue. Have you tried everything? Wiping? Re-flashing? Flashing a different ROM?
I did still get it on stock rooted rom. Twice in a day

Happened to me view times when i tried to play movies, weird thing its not all movies, just some of them. Then i tried to remember what did i just installed because it never happens before. For me it was Nooxzoid, i uninstall it, and it back to normal.
So maybe try to remember does it happened before or just recently, maybe some app went roque with your phone.

Old topic but this just happen to me. Screen went black and couldn't get it back still heard noises from speaker when got message but couldn't get screen on I tried red button and volume up but never worked. I had to remove sim which forced a reboot. Never installed anything recently on rooted. 532. I've had nothing but issues regarding this phone. Regretting getting it thought sony would make a better product then this.

I have it just once though two days ago. Force reboot it by the button i almost gone mad when it's still not working, but somehow after a minute, it's normal again. I don't know why. But in case of yours, try to upgrade to the latest ROM first. That might fix it for you. No point for rooting if you can't fix the problem so let it go.

So this is probably the 3rd thread I've made for this device.
After returning my first Z2, I got this one a few (maybe 4 to 5) days ago and now I'm having issues with it. First time, the screen froze at my lock screen pattern entry; no response whatsoever but the LED light was blinking as I had a notification. I had to hold volume up + power button to soft reset. In the same day (today) I've just had to reset it again for the second time but this time, the power button would not wake the screen! No matter what I clicked, it would not work so I had to press volume up + power again till it vibrated 3 times and reset. I'll be going back to return the phone tomorrow and getting my third Z2! Anyone else having issues or anyone have any ideas as to why it's/what is happening?
Thanks in advance for any responses
EDIT: Are there any built in logs I can have a look at or anything of that sort to determine what went wrong?

Is your phone bone stock at the moment? (locked BL, no root, stock rom, stock kernel)
I had the issue initially - the phone wouldn't wake up a couple of times a day and I'd have to soft reset. But I was rooted with a custom kernel, etc. and learning to use the tools for Sony phones (coming from Samsung phones). But now it's perfectly stable. In my case, I suspect it was a combination of how I was flashing things,etc.
Otherwise, completely stock, i don't recall the phone freezing. Have you done a complete wipe and repair via SUS or PC Companion?

Hey, yeah the phone is pure stock. I've not messed around with the software nor downloaded anything I shouldn't have. I've not done a complete wipe and repair but I'm thinking about factory resetting. Obviously this is not a hardware issue but I don't want to have to keep resetting my phone twice a day because that is stupid. Hopefully it was a one off and I guess I'm not too bothered but I may go in store tomorrow and just see if they will replace it. Silly reason to do so, I know, but I guess I'm within my rights if the phone isn't working properly. What do you think?

Hey Shaf, thanks for the suggestion. I've just posted there now so you can see all the issues I've had with this particular device so far. What do you think I should do - as in should I go in and see if they will exchange it or should I wait for the .69 firmware to roll out?

i would wait for the firmware to come out but if you paid for it and under a warranty then go and change it and look out for the physical issues before receiving another one as one it is software issue its fine but like i say under warranty ? you paid for it ? then change it

I only bought it a few days ago and manufacturer's warranty is 12 months here I think I'll keep it and see if a firmware update helps because it is perfect hardware wise and I won't be happy if they give me a new one and it has gaps etc. Would you happen to know if the new update helps with the camera/overheating issue?

my friend, go to setting factory reset the phone as new , format your sd card as new or buy a new one
then re set up the phone, don't install unnecessary apps or games
i don't know yet but ill wait for officials ones im scared of bricking my phone :#

Yeah I'll factory reset if it happens again! Haha yeah I've not done anything to it simply because this is my first non-nexus phone since the Nexus S! Can't risk anything happening Thanks again for all your help Shaf, appreciate it! :highfive:

So it looks like I've got a faulty Ferrari just had to reset it again for a third time! Not sure what the reason is but again the power button would not respond and the screen would not wake.

Hey mate, sorry late reply! I rang the place I bought the phone from and they said if I can't reproduce the problem they cannot replace it as I have no proof so I'm waiting for it to happen again as I have no clue what is going wrong!

i don't why sellers are *****y , when you buy something they open their mouth and smile at you when its not working properly you become their worst enemy next time mate do a video when it lags / freeze, and show it to them it will shut their mouth

Haha, to think I'm gonna be working for them next month! Yeah I'll have to record all problems from now until them give me a working phone. I saw the .402 OTA was available from today in Europe so I'll wait for that to roll out before making any rash decisions about returns

I was having issues with mine freezing especially while using the camera.

Ah man. In a way I'm glad to see I'm not alone at least! For some reason mine is mostly random but I've kind of noticed it happens after I pull the charger out. Have you tried to go in and exchange it? If it's the camera causing it, it seems easily reproducible.

Hey Shaf, sorry to bother you mate. I just don't understand what is wrong with this phone! My estimated time on with stamina mode is down to 1 day a few hours again. It is a brand new phone I only got it yesterday. Is it the way I am charging it or is it just buggy software? I don't have any apps I don't need and even tap to wake is off. The battery works normally I guess although it is draining a bit fast (5% in 20 minutes while using it) but I don't understand what could be causing this to happen!

It's happened to me once where the phone wouldn't switch on after sleeping, turned on after about 2mins, but only when I received my magnetic charger and started charging with it. Not sure if the magnetic charger is the problem since I only had that problem once and never happened since.
Are you charging it with a magnetic charger?

Did you manage to sort it out? No I'm using the standard charger provided but after charging it last night, the estimation of battery time in stamina mode has come down significantly. The estimation assumes stamina mode is not on but it is turned on in my notification bar. This time yesterday the estimate was at ~5 days.
Ok I have a question, I have a really annoying bug while im in a call! The screen goes black as soon as I press the call button,the phone call is fine but when I come to end the call the screen is still black and I cant end the call because there is no response from the screen!! Is anyone else facing this problem? I hope somebody knows how to fix it.

I'm on .402 and I cannot duplicate the issue. What version is your phone on? Have you tried reinstall the system via sony update service?

Im also on .402 im at work at the min so cant try anything until I get home. Just checked again and its ok now! But for how long I dont know. Its very annoying if its going to keep doing this!

Hmm...that's interesting. glad to hear it's okay now. It doesn't sound like a hardware problem to me. If it keeps happening, maybe try reinstalling the system. Remember to backup before you do the restore tho
P.S you might want to avoid sony Pc companion for backup. It failed to restore last time I tried and a lot of people reported that the app would freeze for quite a while (in some cases stayed frozen forever) if your backup is big.

Finally got my recently bought 2nd hand (still only 3 months old) Z2 after service because the previous owner had forgoten the mini-sim adaptor attached inside the sim tray...
I really have the same problem with my phone... ! Everytime i call or answer a call the screen goes black and i can't do anything... Except some times double pressing the power button brings up the screen, but not always !
Any ideas? Thank you.
