[Q] Usb Charger, Data Frequencies, Durablity etc.. - HTC Amaze 4G

Ok i am thinking about buying an amaze 4g but i do have a few questions:
1. I noticed the amaze has a special usb charger, will i damage the port by using a regular microusb, or will it all be good?
2. Can this phone operate on AT&T 3g/4g frequencies?
3. I've read around but i seem to get mixed answers, does the amaze 4g have gorilla glass, or just Scratch resistant?
4. Are there OEM docks for this phone? htc doesn't have any on their website and i cant seem to find any on amazon.
Thanks in advance
P.S. Wasn't sure if this should go in general or Q&A

TV out cable?

Does anyone know if a TV out cacle is available or even possible on the micro usb connection of the Slide? I am about to go on vacation and need to keep the kids entertained without dragging a DVD player along with us. I am curious if HTC gas the same setup as far as pin count on this one as thet did on their micro plug. Any input on the subject is apreciated.
here's the best I can find. I didn't spend a huge amount of time so I may have missed one that may work better but here is a micro usb to mini usb adapter and then I know there are TONS of mini usb tv out cables out there so this setup may work for you. I did not see any micro usb tv out cables anywhere which I found odd. anyway, here's the link to the adapter I found, you may find something even cheaper:
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...7&cs=04&c=us&l=en&dgc=SS&cid=27722&lid=628335
Thanks for the info. The only thing I worry about is HTC mini usb jacks have a lot more pins than standard mini usb jacks. It was a great idea in its day, though I am sure there are better ones now. Any adapter would have to be the HTC. Style output, and I don't even know if there is an "HTC" micro usb output.
As far as I understand, the extra pins on the HTC mini-usb plug were:
1x Ground
2x R/L sound Out
1x Mic In
These just carried an analog signal.
Since HTC is now defaulting a 3.5mm jack on almost all phones, these type mini-usb plugs are becoming obsolete.
The regular Data +/- and +/-5v pins never changed, which is what carried the digital signal for video/sound out.

So there is hope with the adapter? Hopefully the phone is capable.

Try looking for the cable designed for the Droid Incredible, I believe I saw that for one of my customers at T-Mobile by looking on Google.
yeah the droid incredible cable will work
Thanks, I will have to order one. Hope I get it in time. Much apreciated.
The question that hasn't been answered yet is "is the slide capable of tv-out?"
Good question. I haven't seen this feature advertised at all for this phone, including on T-Mobile internal documentation, so I very much doubt that it is capable of TV out. That would be awesome to find out it is, though!
I'm sure with a bit of tinkering, it would, but with the resolution and low GPU speeds, would it be worth it?

ive read that the slide has a basic usb connector 4 or 5 pin
where as other phones .. incredible have 7 or 8 pin connectors.

[Q] HTC HD2 wifi coaxial cable. Where to find one?

Greetings.
Anyone knows where I can find a coaxial cable for the wifi for the HD2?
It's not only nicotine u use, is it. Wat the hell do you mean
If you're thinking of hooking up an external antenna to your HD2, as far as I know you'd have to open up the HD2 and wire on a coax port to the right part of the board, and I've got no idea how to get that working!
If you do manage to do this, let us know how!
Sorry if I've misunderstood your rather strange question!
Did you lose it when disassembling your HD2 or something?
I believe it's just a standard coax cable with u.fl connectors, the problem would be finding one with correct length. eBay has plenty, but they're anywhere from 20 to 50cm - don't really want to try fitting that in a phone...
you can find them at mouser com
i need also one and did some search work
you need i W.FL-2LP-04N2-A-(60) u.fl is a lit bigger.
2lp means two sides connector 04n ticknes 0.83mm, 2 color, (60= lenght)mm.
see also data sheet in table on the side. looks, they sel also just one.
i not alowed to place the link. becourse i am new here.
onlly did not fnd out or the have also female connectors

Yup! Correct!
Thank you all for your replies. I did find one on ebay, from a broken one.
I hope he will sent me the right one. If not I'll try ur suggestion Tristan_1. Thx
I was on same situatio with wifi cable. Searched over net and nothing. Looked to here recommended shop too. Price for shpping to europe is 10 times bigger than cable itself.
But i finded on ebay cables to Touch Daimond. On pics they looks same like on hd2. I asked here on touch forum lengts for both cables. They are SAME with hd2 cables. Only difference is that hd2 uses for gps white one' touch black. I opened more 10 hd2 (all from europe). Abot t-mobile i cant say anything.
On ebay i finded many sellers with possible search string: OEM AERIAL ANTENNA WIRE RECEPTION FOR HTC TOUCH DIAMOND
Usually after two week i can finally confirm are these touch diamond cables right ones for hd2 too.

Tristan, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
I have been scouring the internet looking for this part and had no idea what to look for so thank you so much for your post. I purchased that part and hopefully I can report back that my phone works again!
.d2onderdelen .nl
i find out, that they have them also. and they sel them in pares. also other part of the hd2
Finally i can CONFIRM that YES wifi/bluetooth antenna coaxial cable is same what used on HTC HD2 (can confirm only EU model). About T-Mobile i cant say.
But GPS cable wich one sell with wifi/bluetooth cable dont fit. Its littlebit longer but short for using on GPS.
This one wich i bought dont had so quality on connectors side (not for many many times connect/disconnect) like original. Yes it was cheap too. But i tested work and signal and there was no loss.
Hope helped now many users who cant find replacment for wifi / bluetooth coaxial cable.
Just try on ebay string OEM AERIAL ANTENNA WIRE RECEPTION FOR HTC TOUCH DIAMOND or just try find spare parts for Touch Diamond. I itself used seller named gsm4world.

Thanks but hard to explore site if its only on one lang and you dont know it.
It true that it is a bit hard to read dutch, but easy to find the right phone, and were you have to look for (onderdelen) that are the inner part of the phone
I find out that the coaxial cable are out of the store on the moment. i can not find them Anny more.
TRY HERE
For Coaxial try also parts4repair.com and search for bluetooth antenna and not for wifi (which are the same anyway).
For me the solution of using coaxial from Diamond did'nt work.
Hope this will...

[Q] Official OEM HTC Charging Cable

I've noticed while spec'd as MicroUSB, the OEM cable for the Amaze has a different design for the end that interfaces with the phone. It's very solid and snaps into the receiving port. All other "standard" designs fit loosely in the port and I feel it will wear it out over time. Is there any place to buy the OFFICIAL cable without having to go for the wall plug as well? Being that the other end is standard USB, I could plug it in to the car charger with a female USB out. My current charger is a job I bought from a T-Mobile retail store that fits way too loosely since it's the typical MicroUSB form factor.
I believe you can call Htc and order one. I remember someone saying they even got theirs for free. Check the htc websitefor info

According to HTC's limited manufacturer's warranty they will replace every accessory that came with your phone once.
Give them a call.
Will give a try guys, thanks
UPDATE: It worked! They're sending another cable
Just curious, is the OEM charging cable an accessory? (Rhetorical)
If so, I'm moving this to the Accessories thread.
i was wondering the same
i want the same cable as oem just longer.
does anyone know where to find one?

Broken Charger!

So I woke up this morning to find that my charger is broken! The part that plugs into the phone is completely bent, and I can't seem to find one anywhere. Does anyone know if the warranty from Verizon or HTC will cover the charger? It's still under the 1 year. Any help would be appreciated.
I don't think vzw covers the cables under warranty, but you should at least call.
If they don't help you out, try this:

****EDIT****
In post 10, below, feralicious provides a link to the proper 12-pin USB cable (the Flyer and the Rezound have the same connectors).
It's white but it works.

You can use a standard USB to micro USB cable.
I know any USB cable will work, that's what I'm using for right now, but they don't fit as snug as the cable that actually came with the phone. The normal USB cables feel too loose and wiggle around too much for my liking.
Sent from my HTC Rezound
The link is there to order a new one then, I doubt Verizon will replace it for free.
Yeah, that one is just a normal USB one. I contacted htc directly and I think they might replace it. Hopefully anyway..

Odd result: a standard USB to micro USB cable from monoprice doesn't actually charge my phone even though the phone claims to be charging AC, the HTC USB cable does.
Anyone else notice anything like this?
Very odd, I'm using a standard charger to charge my phone for the time being and it charges fine. It just doesn't feel secure enough is all. It is an HTC branded charger though. Don't know if that makes a difference.

Thank you everyone for your help. I called Verizon and they were willing to replace it but they don't even have the ability to order the same cable that came with the phone, they only had standard cables. So I actually ended up calling HTC customer service directly, and they sent a new charger & cable no questions asked! They didn't even require me to send the broken one back to them. Thinking I will be calling them first thing with any problems I have from now on!

[Q] weak signal reception after changing micro-usb flex

Hi,
I had a problem with the micro-usb port/charger in my galaxy s2. It was what others have already described (constantly charging/not charging, voltage too high messages, etc). So I decided to buy a spare part for the charger, and replace it .
The first time I turned it on, The charger problem was completely solved, but I noticed the signal was gone. I realized I forgot to connect the antenna. So I opened it again and connected it. The antenna is a HF cable which connects to one end to the main board, and to the other end to the spare part I bought.
After reconnecting the cable I saw an improvement, but the signal is still much worse that before replacing it for the first time.
I bought the part here (German language):
[] IShallNotPostLinksAsANewUset []
Could it be this replacement part?? Might be a capacity adjustment problem? I don't know how are usuallry phone antennas designed. I don't know either if this part plays an important role for the antenna (it is anyway connected to the cable).
What can it be? What would you do to recover antenna sensitivity? (I do not have the broken part, it is already gone )
Best regards

Hi, after having had the same problems with charging, I also changed the micro-USB flex circuit/cable. I bought it in the UK from e-cell (on ebay) ... and same as you, I am not able to get 3G anymore, only G! Charging is solved, 3G is gone!
I do have the old part still ... will put it back on and see what happens.
UPDATE:
OK, I put the original part back in ... and 3G/H was immediately back. I can also see that the network strength is the same as with the replacement part (so it doesn't seem to be a defective antenna cable or so), but now it picks up UMTS and HSPA+, while the replacement part only caught GPRS. So what this means is that the replacement part is not the same as the original ... probably the same problem you have.
At the same time there was no miracle and the original part is still no charging unfortunately ...
I had ordered 2 other replacement parts in HongKong which should arrive in a couple of weeks ... will try those when they arrive, and hopefully at least one of them will solve the charging AND the 3G issue!
UPDATE 2:
While driving around with the phone with the replacement part, sometimes I do get E/3G/H+ signals, so it appears that the part is able to handle these ... but maybe only when the signal is very strong? Or maybe there are different types of E/3G/H+ signals?
Hi,
Experiencing the exact same behaviour, the signal is really bad (never above 3 bars). I'm going to open the phone tomorrow to make sure I left the antenna cable properly connected, but judging from what I'm seeing here, I believe the issue is with the small circuit with the USB port. I bought my part from e-cell as well....
Thank you very much for your answers guys. Now I know that my problem is not unusual. however in my case the 2g signal receptiony is also to degradated. Please keep us posted when you get the spare parts from Hong Kong. If they work I will also order 1 myself.

OK, good news ... today I got my second part, and this one seems to work just fine! 3G and H+ are back! And of course it charges.
As I ordered 2 different parts at the same time from HongKong, I am not 100% sure which one I got, but I am quite confident it is the one from mingxing200808. The item I bought is sold out now, but he relisted it (at higher price: 6.90 USD vs 3.90 USD that I paid, still worth it though). Note that the picture posted is not the same as the part shipped (which was newer, at least in my case). Also note that you need to reuse the rubber cover of the microphone (e-cell included that rubber piece). There is also no adhesive on the mingxing part, but as far as I can see you don't need that either.
Good luck!

Hi Guys, I have had this problem also after replacing the usb board, it has been a nightmare thinking that other parts may have been water damaged I replaced the loudspeaker and inner chassis which both have antenna components. After reading your post I ordered a used part from gaproducts on ebay at £3.85 and my phone is now perfect. By the way the defective one was from china via ebay and supposed to be genuine. Wish I had seen this post a month ago it would have saved me so much hassle, but hopefully will help others.
This is strange, i have the same problem after changing the Flex Cable + Charging port. I bought it from ebay (user name yake-gandi3388) so be careful. I requested a refund or replacement but not sure what the answer will be. The phone never connects now to HSDPA (H), it always stays on EDGE (E). On top of that the signal is somehow weaker than before, not significantly, but I can notice it
I thought that the Flex Cable+Charging Port are not linked to Antenna performance in any way Can someone more experienced explain a bit?
Also, anyone tested an aftermarket flex cable+charging port that is working ok, including the antenna performance and full 3G connection?
Thanks!!!
Ive followed about 10 threads about changing usb boards.About 1 person was happy, and the other 9 got other problems.
When they put their "faulty" one back in,the "new" problems vanished.
Most were replacing the board because of usb problem.
I thought they were buying faulty replacements. For all I know someone at Samsung could be "recycling" faulty parts..

I'm experiencing the exact same problems!! What's weird is that with other carriers (that work in different frequencies) my phone works just fine... I'll try buying another flex cable and will tell you the results.

Strange... I will try to check with other providers as well. On my side, I have re-contacted the Ebay member and he offered me an additional Flex Cable with no extra charge. Nice commercial initiative, however I am afraid that the next one will have the same issues Will keep you updated once it arrives.
Got this as well. I changed my USB board after it developed charging problems. The first one gave me a flashing battery icon & one of the screw holes didn't line up also. The next one fitted fine but I'm sure my signal is weaker. Compared to my friends S1 on the same network. He gets a stronger signal than me, stood in the same place. Replaced my loud speaker/antenna as I've also replaced the back chassis and think prising the speaker out might of damaged it. Think I'll try another USB board to see if it improves :S the 2nd board had the same Rev. number on it but looked slightly different to the original. (Sadly dont have the original to put back in to test)

I am signed up for a solution to this problem.
I had charging issues with the old port and replaced the board. The new board only allowed for an intermittent 1 signal bar. I put the original faulty board back in and had full signal immediately.
I ordered a second board and have the same issue. No/1 signal bar. Cannot make calls, it tells me "mobile network not available." I can connect to wi-fi with no issues though.
Unless a fix is found I am considering taking one of the new boards and my old board into a service shop and having the usb ports swapped.
Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 (AT&T)
I received a 3rd charging port board today, this one works some, but not as good as original. I'll post the number's printed on the board with there results in the phone.
Original Board: GT-i9100 REV2.2
R.B83 35
Original board worked great until it started having issues with charging/high voltage.
Replacement Board 1: GT-i9100 REV2.3
R.C42 10
This board would charge the phone and connect it to the computer, but would not connect to a network and would give no signal or a temporary 1 bar signal.
Replacement Board 2: R.B54
GT-i9100 REV2.2
This board would charge the phone and connect it to the computer, but would not connect to a network and would give no signal or a temporary 1 bar signal.
Replacement Board 3: GT-i9100 REV2.2
R.B83 36
This board both charges and connects the phone to the computer and it allows for a network signal. The network signal is not quite as good as my stock, but I think it will do.
I do not know what the board numbers mean, but I would guess the REV2.3 is an updated version of the REV 2.2. I think the compatability issue may come in the R._ numbers as Replacement Board 3 is the only one that works and is the closest R._ match. Maybe someone with far more expertise can shed some light on it, but this is my experience.

The USB board has the contacts to connect to the antenna in the back of the chassis. So replacing it with a sub standard part is affecting signals

I an sorry for for the delay. I live in Germany and I use O2 ( umts frequency in the 2100 Mhz band) . I ordered the part from Hong Kong which Geronymous cited, didn't want to make specific advertising. The user is mingxing200808.
Regarding the question why does this affect the antenna, it is because antennas need to have a certain capacitive load in order to be adjusted and to transmit in a certain frequency range. If the antenna is not adjusted the signal will be reflected back . This capacitance is defined by the geometry of the antenna and might be changed/adjusted by elements connected to the end of the antenna. So the flex part acts as an adjusted capacity load for the antenna.
This is a very rough description, but I hopeit helps.

Finally got my 3rd USB board and my signal has improved a lot! Hurrah! Got from tjuk1980 on eBay. This board is a darker blue, looks a lot better than my second board which was a lighter greener colour, the logo and writing didn't seem as clear as it does on the new one. Getting 3 of 4 bars on H+ at home where as before it would stay on G and if it did pick up 3G/H by chance it wouldn't show any bars.

Edit: picture of the dodgy board - this gave me crap service so avoid that one!
