[Q] Call Recording Kernel - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I am wondering if there is a kernel that'll work on this device that will allow call recording. I am not trying to get into all the drama about legalities and whatnot, just curious if there is one or what would be involved to enable it.

In time

I would love this ability too. I have an ex husband who is better behaved when he knows our conversations are being recorded. Plus I feel more proactive about my safety when I have proof when he threatens me. I just recently upgraded to the S4 from the S3 and had Call Recorder by skvalex working flawlessly. I hope to do the same with the S4.

Wut, you can't pause video recording? REALLY?

So is it really true that android can't do such a simple thing? even my old symbian dumb-phone can do that! LOL. seriously wtf man? It's seriously needed when recording stuff!
well i can live with this, but it was a bit wtf moment when i realized it
I've never owned a phone that can. Or if I never noticed.

I know I am in the wrong forum and not too sure if it would of changed from the SGS1 captivate to the SGS2 but even when I was on stock or custom roms I was always able to pause the video recorder and restart it. I just would hit the record button on screen to records, then hit the record button to pause it. Then hit the record to continue recording. If you hit the stop button it will not continue.

I'm not sure why we can't do it on our phones, but the Samsung Infuse can do it. So its not a limitation of Android, its Samsung's decision not to allow us this feature.

We get a dedicated pause button on our camera. Samsung doesn't love you.
But no seriously, why would they have that in every gs1 phone variant, but not the gsii?
Are you holding it the wrong way?

Well, because I want to have the possibility to choice of recording in a big 1 file (with pause buttom) or in multiples files.
Pause button since my W810i, N96, N97, N8 and N900.
Very strange indeed, that they removed this feature.
I don't find this as a big problem cause it's fast and easy to put several together using "Video maker".
My friends laughed out on me when GS2 couldn't do a simple job as this when their Nokia phones could Hope GS2 had the pause feature.

Symbian isn't as dumb as you say. Might be a disaster commercially all right though ...
Good question actually makes a refreshing change to see a valid question on here as opposed to "can i root" what is the best ROm for battery life" and other such nonsense that is duplicated on here on a daily basis!!
This isn't something ive ever thought of and if i was recording something chances are i wouldn't be pausing, however knowing you have the option to do this would be very good indeed and i too am puzzled why this option is not available on the SGSII?
maybe it's something some devs could look into?

Strange thing is both functions and the image for pausing(camera_pause.png) are included in the Camera.apk of SGSII, will see if I can bring it back.

Then we can see some pausing action in my GS2! Gonna do a matrix kind video with it Good luck!
I just shot a video of my son playing there and there is no definitely no option to pause the video, surely some dev can come up with some hack here?
Anybody found a solution or an alternative video recorder ?
I'm gonna check camera apk and see what can be done.

[Q] Regarding to CM Dropping Support for Vibrant

I'm very concern about this problem as 911 is one of the most important thing on phones. So, the question is does MIUI have the same bug as well?
thanks
YES it does.
You can probably bet ICS will also have the issue.
Apparently the issue is when you call them they cannot hear you but they will call you back to check on you. So if you can wait a few minutes for 911 you'll be alright. I'm pretty sure if it is something really really serious happens you wouldn't be able to call them anyways and someone passing by will call.

I'm sorry, but that's definitely not a good way to look at this issue. "They'll call back" or "someone passing by will call"? I'm not going to wait for them to call back so I can tell them I have an emergency. I'm not putting my 4 month old's life at risk just so I can have cm on my phone.
I totally agree with their decision to drop support for this device. I used to love this phone and always defended it in the community. But lately it's become stale. No Samsung support, dwindling development, and now no more cm support (not saying cm is the end all be all rom). The Vibrant truly is the red headed stepchild of the 1ghz phones.
The hoops we had to jump through for gps were ridiculous. I gave up on gps a long time ago since I have it in my car.
Enough ranting. Putting my Vibrant up on Ebay tonight. I've had my fun, but it's time for a good phone.

Thanks guys even though i loved this rom i cant put my life at risk so i guess im going back to froyo
Sent from my T959 using XDA App
I read that any AOSP Gingerbread based ROM on the Vibrant will have this problem. I'm not sure about ICS as I haven't been following those threads. I gave up on my Vibrant last month when I got a Galaxy Nexus. It was a good run while it lasted. I really enjoyed CM 7.1 on that phone but like stated the GPS was a POS since day one with my phone and I wouldn't want to have to rely on searching for a local emergency number when least expected. I put most of the support blame on Tmobile. Why would they support the Vibrant when they can push you to "upgrade" to the Galaxy S 4G? They could have pushed Samsung for an update if they wanted. Look how long it too the Vibrant to get Froyo? Never again. CM did the right thing by dropping support. It was becoming a liability. /rant off

Is there any way to record video during a phone call?

I know that its probably for privacy reasons but is there a way to record video during a call? I want to be recording video when i do some spiritual driving but sometimes i happen to be on the phone too. RELAX, i use either bluetooth or speakerphone.
Would it be as simple as flashing a zip file or it runs much deeper than that?
Pretty sure you can use your device normally while on the phone (data is kind of iffy, but camera doesn't need data). Have you tried already?

During a call you can use your phone like normal with a few exceptions. The stock camera app can be launched and you can take pics however the camcorder aspect of it can not be launched. As far as any other camera apps from market place or otherwise I'm not sure.
Nobody knows how or even if its possible?
Bump

[Q] Is CM10.1 ready to be my daily driver yet?

I'm starting to get frustrated by the stock ROM not supporting so pretty basic features like a full Bluetooth stack, and HTTP Streamer that allows resuming and moving around in a video. CM10 supports all these things, but seems to be behind in supporting HDMI out, MMS, HD Video capture, etc. Is it more stable yet? When will it be time to make the switch?
Flash it and try it for yourself. No one can be the judge of what ROM is best for you except you.
I use rootbox or PAC and no MMS issues. HD is iffy, I guess. Can/video not quite as good as sense, but not much worse. Just been playing with sense last 20hrs and can isn't as good as I recall, that must mean that the CM cam I've been using for quite some time isn't too shabby. If you try to pull a still while taking a video, it will be blurry, though.

I used it as a DD for months. Not sure what makes you think it wasn't in the first place. I was pretty sure all of those issues were fixed.

Thanks all! I did flash it and I'm quite happy so far. Just had to fix a few wakelocks with some of the applications that I restored from Titanium.
Appears that Bluetooth works well, but still does not have AVRCP 1.3+ which would be nice for sending meta data to my car stereo. I can live without HDMI out for a while until smart folks figure that all out.

Anyone else have this/feel this with custom ROMS on p769?

Trust me im with everyone 100% on loving CM and custom ROMS. OBVIOUSLY I want CM as much as the next guy and yes its fast (not anymore so than my current setup) and cool on this phone but I use my phone for 4 major reasons. Making phone calls & text, playing music (headphones, line out to my car stereo), watching youtube videos privately at work during free time(headphones), and video recording my kids. Now every ROM i've tried the phone calls echo terribly, forget about a quality music signal( LINE OUT & headphones sound like CRAP plus my car subwoofers have a constant hum and someFC music player & music player ALOT), and I have to give up my 1080p recording I got specifically for use with my 1080p tv for home video recording of my kids. So i'll be sticking with what I can use thats stable and supports these features which happens to be kumas rom thus far. So I don't understand how people disagree with me about this. I've ran CM and many other custom roms for the L9 and NONE of them support and are stable enough to accomplish the things i've stated above to my standards. So disagree all you wish but these are facts I can support/prove. Now YOU CAN disagree that these features aren't as important to you so your able to overlook them or they aren't as severe for you. Back on topic, did anyone else experience these same issues?

I have a P768, but i can help you with some things:
First of all: Did you made a full wipe when you installed CM? if you did not that could be the cause of the FCs. Also which recovery are you using? i recommend TWRP. Also use the correct gapps.
About sound: Calls quality is exactly the same to me on CM and stock. About the music you should try Walkman , its very good. That one is for CM10.2 only.
About camera: Try this one, its not perfect (some G2 features are obviously not working) but you can record in fullHD on CM with it, so use both this one and the standard one for regular shots.
I think stock rom its just awful, its filled with bloatware eating the ram and the aesthetics are very childlish, but its just my opinion. Im very happy with CM 10.2 and i was with CM10.1.3 before too, and i really tried stock based roms but they are too bloated to me. I hope you can get a better experience with custom roms, they are a thousand times better than stock in many ways in my opinion.
I agree about the call quality & audio bugs. Over all custom is good. It's not easy troubleshoot and hunting down problems. Lg has several developers working on one project. So of course CM won't be up to par on every aspect. However, custom Roms give you the latest versions and o/s. So it's up to the user to find what is best. I actually prefer stock as well, but I also want to help the one man (or woman) crew
So I try to do my part by reporting problems and troubleshooting.
I agree with @mato_d007 about using the proper gapps. In addition, I recommend wiping, flash rom, boot, then go back into recovery and install gapps. This procedure will make a huge difference IMO.
I just love Android in general, if you don't like something, just fix it. Screw the carrier's and big corporates with their money. Blame them for the audio problems & video problems with their Proprietary software. Open Source for life baby!!! Lol, I think I went a little over"bored" on that one.
Yes I know I'm contradicting myself by using stock, but I change it to my likings
Sent from my LGMS769 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes I did a full wipe before flashing. I also flashed the correct gapps. Im using CWM for recovery so maybe that has some effects. Im perfectly happy running what im on for now. Honestly with all the xpose mods and performance tweaks i'm using you would never know i'm running stock. I agree with you Kuma about open source for life. I don't believe you are contradicting yourself by using stock, I mean come on you clearly created the best stock platform available as far as performance/ looks and its modified like crazy which wouldnt be possible. I'm also behind the one man teams 100% as well, I just currently depend on my phone to much to run them and report the bugs and kinks. Another month or so and i'll have my N1 so once I have it my L9 will be test material. I even considered finding the right person on here that could use it for dev. purposes and donating it to them. We'll see though, i'm still trying to decide how I would go about selecting the right person. I'm so excited to see how CM is on a phone created for it, omgosh I can't wait!
UPDATE: So bummed! Just found out the n1 with CM is going to be a special edition that won't be released until later this year Cant decide whether to preorder for the 10th or wait for the CM edition. I mean im sure once the CM edition is released the firmware will be readily available to flash but I really wanted CM out of the box. However I heard OmniROM has a amazing build for it I could use while waiting. What do you guys think?
