Does anyone else have a problem with getting a quality picture for HBO Go. My Wi-fi is fine, and no matter how long I let it buffer it always looks like crap. It doesn't do it on my Nexus 7.
Just wondering if anyone is having the same experience and if they know how to fix it.
I tried reinstalling, clearing app data, and all of that. It almost seems to be a hardware problem, but I don't have any problems with any other streaming app...
Check out the screen shot below to see what I'm talking about.

Hello,
I flashed the new, official build of ICS for my U.S. Tab and Netflix has been having issues since I did it. It never had problems before, but now the video consistently freezes when I try to watch. Things run fine at the beginning, but the video stops after like a minute and the audio continues on as normal. This is the only problem I've encountered so far. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
There are a cpl of threads open on this one...have a look around for details. One work around if its freezing on HD is to lower the quality in the app...you could also try clearing cache. Search the forum and you'll find the threads...sorry I'm being lazy, about to run out...good luck!
For me nothing worked but switching to "better quality" in the Netflix account settings (Manage video quality). -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29623239&postcount=40
Hello, recently (like android 4.2) youtube has decided to stop buffering videos whenever it feels like it, which means the video just hangs when it gets there with the little buffer wheel spinning. Sometimes it will continue to load the video after it stops, but most of the time it just locks up the whole app and you have to force close it and re-launch it. I have tried clearing app cache and data and what not, but nothing has helped. I even tried turning off wifi optimization, but that didn't help either. I thought that maybe it was my ISP, but the same videos in the browser play just fine with no buffering at all. It seems to do this regardless of the length of the video. I get about 30mbps down and 5.5up when I run speedtest on my tablet, so I don't think it's the connection that's causing the issue. I should also mention that this happens regardless of quality. It will load relatively quickly to a certain point, then just never buffer again. I fear the only way to resolve this issue will be a factory reset.
This Reddit thread solved my YouTube issues. I have fios, fyi.

Edit: oops this apparently.might be a problem with the new YouTube app.

I get this! All started when I upgraded to android 4.3! Its highly annoying, and the only way. I have found to fix it is to kill the YouTube app, find the video and place you where at, and then go from there
I also had this issue before the YouTube app was recently updated

I'm having the exact same issue! I might get it to play one video and the it buffers constantly. Anybody else have this issue? I'm running stock 4.3 uprooted. YouTube works fine on my s4 and laptop, but hangs on the Nexus 10!

Happens on my moto x too.

Can also confirm on Nexus 10.

My devices:
Nexus 10 - Stock Rooted
Nook Tablet - CM10.1
Same problem here.
You don't have to force close youtube by the way, simply pressing the home button and going back to youtube afterwards does the job for me as well.
I hope they will fix that issue soon
This sucks so bad! I just got this awesome nexus 10 and I literally cat go 5 seconds without buffer. Do I have a bad unit? How do I fix this? I can surf the web just fine so it isn't my wifi to the nexus 10.

Try an app called "Viral' from the playstore. I started using it as it can play YouTube music videos in the background while I'm using some other app. Recently I've been having issues with the default YouTube app and discovered that Viral did not have those issues. It may be worth giving it a try. I'm using a 4.4 custom ROM linked in my signature so your mileage may vary.
The issue I'm having is YouTube stops half way through a video and simply will not continue playing that video from the stop point, even after a reboot. I can play another video but it too stops half way or so in.
The YouTube app isn't NEARLY as good as it should, I'm still enraged and disgusted about the fact that the YouTube app on iPad is so MUCH better than the Android one, it has gestures to let you toggle full screen , it has pull down to refresh on lists (like the pull down to refresh on the gmail app), if you exit the app and come back, the video you were playing doesn't have to be rebuffered again (it keeps a few seconds buffered so you can watch the video quickly) AND worst of all, the iOS app lets YOU choose the resolution of your stream, what you get isn't an HD "on" and "off" toggle, you get proper choosing, like on the website, you get to choose between 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p AND 1080p, HD on our app is 720p, not 1080p, actually Google disabled the option from all android apps.
After that update I lost a lot of faith in Google, no wonder the iPad has so many more high quality apps, if you want devs to take you seriously, then YOU should give proper support to your devices, 1080p streams should have been available ever since our N10 was released, this **** is just unacceptable.
Thanks @3DSammy for the tip about the Viral app. :highfive:
Well, I figured out the issue, but not a fix. I think it's tied to comcast's router. I set up an old linksys with a broadcomm wireless unit as a repeater and I haven't had a single issue since. Numerous router resets and devices restores did nothing. It doesn't make any sense though because it only happens with the YouTube app, but same settings and everything I was able to watch a video completely on my nexus 10 on the repeater that I could not get through on comcast's router/modem(Aaris unit). It's strange though because my repeater connects wirelessly to my comcast router, so it goes nexus 10 to linksys repeater to comcast's router. It could be a security issue I guess, but I didn't look into it.
But, since I have been on stock Android LG lollipop zv8, it seems like the g3 has lost all of it's casting capabilities!!!!! [emoji36] no longer can I cast YouTube to my TV, or video files from my media payer and mircast is all sorts of wonky, and even disconnects and refresh rate sucks. And I can't share any files through Wi-Fi direct, only in advanced Wi-Fi in settings, I can only connect to another device, WTF good is that? Anyone else have these issues??
Odd. I believe everything worked pretty well for me in the couple of weeks I used it before switching to barepop
I don't know if this will help you, but you can try ##UPDATE#and see if that fixes it.
It fixes a lot of issues, so maybe yours.
Hello there.
I just bought the OPX and it's a great device (except for the camera, of course)
But I have this weird video player problem.
videos are lagging and stuttering everywhere! twitter, youtube, browser, anywhere! except if I used an external player like (mx player) it goes kinda smooth.
I tried to disable nuplayer (or enable it, I don't remember but I changed the default state ) and got to nowhere. Same thing.
I've came across some webpages of people having a similar problem, yet no one have offered a proper solution.
I'm on the latest OTA oxygen update, just bought my phone 3 days ago so I didn't even have time to mess around
really looking to fix this problem ASAP because it's annoying, VERY annoying.
May be reset will work out!
Do a factory reset, or replace the device to a new one!
I guess I would do a reset when I'm totally out of ideas.
any sugs?

Try Awesome Player in developer options
Blu-spark kernel really improve the experience with the OPX. But I still have this problem sometimes.
I noticed that it's not on all vids on the youtube app for ex. It should be related to the video format (of course, worse on 1080p) & codecs/encoding properties (VBR ou CBR) or the servers the video is on. My data speed transfer is not the issue on that.
Tried awesome player, nothing changed.

so what do you suggest beside changing the kernel?
Hi,
When trying to view videos on the Prime Video app, it appears to play normally ie sound plays, progress bar advances - there's just no video!
This happens with each show I've tried, whether streaming or from download, and regardless of download quality I choose.
I tried clearing cache, then uninstalling / reinstalling, with no luck.
Anyone have any suggestions? Very frustrating!
Best,
I just checked the Jack Ryan series and it worked fine. Checking your wifi would be the only thing I could suggest. When I had slow wifi I would get the audio, but the screen would be black. Sometimes it takes Amazon a little while to get something going.
Do you have anything checked in Dev Options (like 'Disable HW Overlays')?
Thanks both.
Defo not my WiFi - I even get the little preview when I use the seek bar, just nothing showing in the main viewing window.
No dev options activated, and everything else "stock" also.
Seems like I'm the only one having the issue after a few Google searches, so I'm at a loss!
So..... I was on the phone to Amazon support and was playing with my settings....
I use a "corner round" app to make the tablet screen more visually appealing - as soon as I disable it, Prime Video works!
So, if you have anything that creates a screen overlay, try disabling it and using Netflix / Prime video. Give it a try!
Best,
Same issue here with an app called "Rounded Corner". I had been wondering for ages until I found this thread. Thanks!
