[Q] To lower your risk of hearing damage? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Is there any possible way to get rid of this stupid notification? every time i turn my volume up above 70% it always tells me "To lower your risk of hearing damage, do not listen at high volumes for long periods."

I looked around and couldn't find it. Super annoying because you have to unlock it to hit okay.
I don't even feel like this thing is that loud with the stock headphones at ~90%.

The custom ROMs will blow it away at some point.

I really want a fix for this as well. I really hate how it resets your sound to below 50% (guessing here) when you plug in a headset\speakers. Leave it where it was set to phone! And then the prompt it gives you? Super annoying...

Between that and the confirmation popup to raise volume above safe levels EVERY single time I plug in headphones, those are my two biggest pet peeves with this phone. If I want to destroy my hearing, let me. Sheesh.

I mostly use it in my car so I control the volume from my car's stereo. I want the silly phone to stay at max volume so I don't have to turn my car stereo to max. And then trying to adjust the phone to max while driving is an experience as I don't want to have to look down to press okay so it will actually raise the volume. Lots of "grrrr" when all this happens!

there is a work around for this issue in cm10.1 rom not sure if there is one for the s4 just thought id mention it. its the only way i found it to go away.

I'd be interested in seeing a mod for stock ROMs, because I don't want to go full custom just yet. Is there a workaround? Or is there someplace to start looking, like files to modify?

Possible solution
I may have found a possible solution:
Following the problem on the Rugby Pro (SGH-I547), it also has this annoying problem. Checking the ADB log I saw this:
Code:
D/PopupuiReceiver(3524): onReceive() getAction : android.intent.action.EAR_PROTECT_TOAST
D/STATUSBAR-NotificationService(673): enqueueToast()
On the Samsung Galaxy Devices, they all seem to have the 'PopupuiReceiver.apk'
Decompliling the apk under the following files
"Public.xml"
Code:
<public type="string" name="ear_protect_toast" id="0x7f050007" />
(not sure if it would have the same id)
"strings.xml":
Code:
<string name="ear_protect_toast">To lower your risk of hearing damage, do not listen at high volumes for long periods</string>
Theoretically, it should be as simple as removing these two lines
Hope it helps
Joe

Nottach Xposed has an option to disable the toast: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293956
edit:The volume is still reset to 50% every time you plug in headphones, but you can turn it all the way up without hitting "ok".

Does anyone know how to remove the call connection vibrate???????????

The phone vibrates a little bit when someone answers the other end. Does anyone know how to get shot of this as it's doing my head in!!!!! Been thru settings and can't see anything in there reference it. HHHHEEEEELLLLLPPPP.
I thought this was one of the nicest features I've seen on a phone.
maybe it stops if you use more exclamation and question marks in your posts.
Why would you wanna lose this option?
During connecting a call the radiation of the phone is the highest.
At the time the connection is made it's way lower (just listen to you're stereo when you're making and having a call sounds worse during the first 10 sec, before you answer)
Radiation does damage, so it's better to hold te phone to your ear when the connection is made. This way you know when you're connected.
Very cool option, wouldn't want to lose it
@Kendong2 - Don't be a *****. Play nice!
@Stafflover - Thanks for the information, I do hold the phone to my ear and the phone vibrates when the person the other end answers. Should the phone not be vibrating like? Cheers

The vibration is there so you don't need to hold the phone to your ear when it's most ''harmfull''
As i said, when you dail a number, making the connection sends out the most radiation. When you have a connection (after the vibrating) radiation is way lower (so more safe)
@stafflover
Again thank you for the information much appreciated. It just would be nice though for me to make my own decision with regards to the phone if you know what I mean. I am well chuffed with the phone, only had it a few days and still getting to grips with it. Thanks again.
yes understand, but I had several phones who had this function, never found a way to turn it of (maybe some of the cookers know how to remove it)
@stafflover
Yeh, I suppose so. To be honest now that you have pointed out the relevance of such a function it kinda makes perfect sense, certainly for health and safety reasons. To be fair the vibrate aint that bad if I don't put the handset to my ear until the phone has vibrated in my hand, basically using it for what it's there for. Many thanks Stafflover for the kind information, most appreciated.

[Possible solution] Volume levels on SGSII - different max headphone output

Up until now I'd always been puzzled by people saying how quiet they found the headphone output of the SGSII and they they wished it was a more normal volume level. Mine had always been plenty loud enough to drown out my Metro ride to work in the morning, even dropped down a notch or two. Yesterday I discovered a possible reason to fit both findings.
I'd been messing with my phone before heading out to work, put in the headphones, sparked up some music and.....quiet. The max volume I could crank out of it with the headphones in must have been about 60% of the normal. Whatever I did, wherever I went in the phone to alter settings and whatever values were showing made no change to push it back up again.
Today I turned the phone on, unlocked it, dropped the headphones in and played the same album and it was the usual 'loud' volume again.
This convinces me that there is a set sequence of actions that causes one quieter volume level to be set as headphone maximum and another that allows a more decent top end. Both findings on volume to this point by others seem to be right.
I'm trying to reproduce the steps (nothing outlandish) which led to my temporary trip to ear-protecting quiet land but have been unable to so far. I'm putting headphones in before and after pushing the volume to max, trying this before or after going into the music app and/or starting the music playing but obviously there are quite a few permutations - all of which are quite normal usage and liable to be done by many people.
I'm posting this so anybody else can also have a mess around and maybe find it before me, helping a few others in the process.
Did you ever find the solution to this?
In addition to the first post I think it is remarkable that you can get different levels of audio output by using different headphones or speakers. Sure all the models available differ a bit but never had such a difference.
settings->sound->volume: 4 sliders there. I once read that sometimes "media" and "incoming call" get mixed up. I sometimes have a really hard time to hear people on the phone using headphones.

[Q] Anyway to lower volume

Hi,
I have just switched from an iPhone 4 to SGSIII. When going to sleep I like to listen to tune in radio. The only problem I am finding is that on the lowest volume notch using the volume keys is still too loud for me.
Is there anyway to lower this further?
I totally second this.. I am coming from an age old HTC G1, and i loved how i could have it SO quiet, that i could hold the phone up to my ear at night (the speaker phone side, not the talking side) and hear it just fine but a person laying next to me in bed couldn't tell i was listening to anything.. but with the Gs3 its so loud even at the lowest setting possible that at 4-5 feet away you can hear it.
Not to mention the text alert sound is too loud when I have it at the lowest setting.. On the G1 i could turn it down to the lowest setting and it was quiet enough that if you listened for it you could hear it in a quiet room, but if you weren't listening for it you'd miss it. wish the Gs3 had a little finer tuning on the quieter end
I do that too a lot and the only solution I found so far (sgs2) is to use apps like PlayerPro/PowerAmp for mp3s and XiiaLive for internet radios because they have internal volume control on top of androids one. Gets the volume so low that even at night with in-ear-canal headphones I can barely hear the audio. Not that I do that but still, it's nice to have control of the volume so much.

Poweramp is the only solution I have found but I really like Tunein and that does not have any control. There must be a simple system wide solution. My device is rooted so are there any options?

I'm resurrecting this old thread. I too would love to be able to turn down the volume to as low of a setting as I want. I don't understand why the phone manufacturers don't simply provide that capability!
There is another post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565559 on a technique for the HTC One. I haven't tried it on the S4 yet.

A few issues with new device. Are they normal?

Hey guys. This is the first device I've owned since the Galaxy Note 2, which was a great device in my opinion. I just got the z2 after extensive searching for a new phone. I couldn't decide between the m8 the z2 and the lumia 930. As photography was important for me I decided on this phone.
Anyways, I just got my phone today and I immediately noticed some oddities and I'd like to know if they're normal or if I should just return it for another. This is batch 14w28, so that means it was made in July.
The first is the volume for notifications... I can't hear them if I'm not paying attention to my phone! The volume is really low. I went into the options and raised the volume all the way up and still the same thing even though it's better. Very low
Build quality is good, but with the volume at max and using speakerphone or music or anything, I can feel the inside of the phone resonate or the sound moving around in there. Very awkward to be honest.
Phone quality. I hear a tinny sound in the background when someone speaks through the ear piece... Is this normal?
I love this device! It's gorgeous and runs very quickly! I'm very happy to get rid of Samsung for a while. Their devices were too cartoony, and I've had a lot of Samsung decides!
Well, please let me know. Thank you very much. Kind regards.
I've searched around and found these issues separately... But all together, is this normal?

Regarding Low notification volume: I believe only one speaker is utilized for notifications on stock ROM. There are mods available to both boost the volume as well as activate both speakers for notifications. Very simple too, just look on the first page of the Android Development section, or click here.
Regarding resonating and tinny sound: I do not experience this at all. My phone actually sounds quite nice playing back music through the speakers. I think you might want to have that looked at, but first try this: Go to Settings > Sound > Sound effects > Enable ClearAudio+

Thank you very much for your reply. I'm going to enable the option you mentioned... For example, playing music I put my finger to the right of the NFC icon and I can feel the vibrations within the phone. Is that normal?
In regards to the notification sounds, I don't know. I'll see how it develops. Thank you for your reply, really.
Also enable Dynamic normaliser in the sound settings can increase volume a bit. Also check out viper for android from here It's an awesome app m8:good:
I'll try a call again in a few. I changed a few other options. Let's see how it works! Because sound in a voice call sounds weird. But through speakerphone it all sounds great. I found the option for xloud and it worked and now it's tolerable. Thanks for your reply. ?
Well just in case someone is interested, Amazon is sending me a new device and taking back this one. Let's see if it still has the same voice quality! I'll report back. ?
Well, I had a second one... It squeaked next to the sony logo ... I felt like I was going to crush it every time I was on the phone.
Third one came, thought it was perfect. I hold it to make calls, all is fine. I let go to make calls and hold it with my head and shoulder while I type out a message or wash my hands or whatever... "Kent... KENT!? Hello!? Are you there?" it apparently makes a noise like it's hanging up or static...
I don't know if I'm going to ask for a 4th phone. Sony has some serious problems. 2 of these 3 phones were W19, the other W29 (or 28, I don't remember). Amazon said to wait until they're out of stock to get devices from a different batch... Arg...

A few questions about tweaking notifications and volume defaults

There's an annoying thing on Android 8 that tells you the phone is charged in the notifications and to "unplug to save energy!" -- as if I care! I don't want to have to clear that when I have my phone plugged in and it gets charged. Alphabet needs to wake up and realize not everyone supports their silly narratives and agendas (but I doubt they will). Would love to ditch this notification.
Also there's a toast notification stating that listening to high volumes for a long period may damage hearing. I'm well aware and again I don't care and it's up to me for how long I wish to do this and do not care to see a notification every time I turn the volume up on headphones. Would love to remove this. I don't need Google of all corporations to judge me every time I turn my music up. It's bad enough what they do everywhere else and it's none of their business how loud my music is =)
Finally, the phone likes to revert the headphone volume when you connect headphones. I don't want this to happen. I want my headphone volume to stay where I left it. I figure this is associated with that notification about high listening volumes .

Honestly, you are making an issue out of nothing. You don't see the notification if your screen is off.

I'm not making an issue out of nothing and why would my screen be off when I'm starting to listen to music?
