For those that have either one of the following symptoms but is not limited to these:
1) longing for ics/miui v4
2) unable to shake the feeling of flashing something no matter what device the ROM is built for
3) guilt of flashing a new ROM with bugs knowing that your old one was perfect, similar feelings that are associated with post relationships
4) hiding the addiction of xda and ROM flashing by allowing spouses, significant others think that you may be cheating rather than meshing around on your phone
This is to be a release or getaway, there's to be no judgment or community punishment...mods are not a part of this protection...sorry.
Come share your stories....you are not alone.

haha nice thread.... Lets just say i've been checking xda and others forums way too much since ics has been leaked. Really into these sense 4.0 roms and just waiting for some more stability.
Never knew this could become addictive until I found myself sneaking to check this specific forum while my fiancé is sleep beside me at 2am and then when confronted (yes I'm at the stage where I get confronted) about it, I lie and say it was a girl...jk..but I did lie though, still a shame.

Flashing while driving, flashing while pooping, sneak flashing after promising not to, thinking about flashing while "listening" to my wife, starting a download prior to an appointment so I could flash immediately after, waking up from a dead sleep with an idea about flashing then getting up to do it then hiding the phone when my wife wakes up, thinking "this rom is perfect, I'll never flash again", then flashing something two minutes later, etc... Yeah I been there man.

Honestly some of my best flashing is while pooping, I wipe my ass and my phone at the same time. I hide the phone too, waiting until I hear the true sound of sleep and by then my 100 mb ROM is complete.
Is it just me or does anyone else hate the initial flashing of a miui ROM? There's no muffling that amplified ass bout audio and I always forget about it at 12am during the work week.
I may move this to the Android general, if I can.

Hi.. My name is Gene.. And I'm an Android Addict.. I've been using Android in various forms since the G1.. And I've spent thousands of dollars going through nearly 50 phones and tablets in the last 3 years. My girlfriend doesn't quite understand the obsession.. And I'll be honest.. I don't understand it myself.. I just start thinking about shiny new designs.. Quad Core processors built on new architecture with die shrinkage.. Better camera hardware matching point and shoots matched with glorious software... And dozens of ROMS and kernels to sort through to find the perfect combination for my phone and I.. I get this itch... And my eye starts twitching... And.. And..... GOD WHERES MY PHONE! I DONT CARE IF THE NEW ALPHA OF MIUI DOESNT EVEN BOOT I JUST NEED TO FLASH IT!!!

I'm always promising myself that I won't flash a new rom. That today is the day when I stop.... 2 seconds later flashing a new rom. It's gotten to the point where I had to make a new folder on sd card just to save the zips I flash so I don't have to redownload

For a minute I thought that was normal, my sd card would fill up in a matter of minutes or hours depending on whether or not I was on 3g or wifi. I got better with my flashing as I told myself that aosp and miui are the only roms to flash...until sense 3.6 & 4.0 came out, along with 45 different ics aosp roms and now I'm sitting here licking my lips for some miui v4
Gene,
I know to a degree what you mean I have an Acer that works and I found a great combo and now it feels a little too complicated to upgrade so now I'm thinking about trading that sucker in for a nook tablet/color or a kindle fire...anything lighter and good development 7 or 10 inch tablet. I have no good reason a to why I'm trying to do this either.

Thinking about getting one. I know someone who has a t-mobile one.
Is it easy to root/unlock. I'd love to play with CM10 on it does it run well?
Other than GPS and intermittent 911 issues, the CM10 based ROMs that I've used run nicely.
As far as unlocking, you can simply download a free market app that will unlock your Vibrant.
For a phone that has been out now for.... over two years? It still hangs tough with the big boys in my opinion. If you have the opportunity to get one, my advice would be to go ahead and give it a shot. I think you'll like it.
You were just sliced bread before you were burnt by the toaster.
As my boy toaster said, this phone is the little android that could. Samsung and
T-homobile wrote this device off, never updating past froyo. Well the beautiful minds of cyanogen/xda community knew that the capabilities of this device was greater so we got cm7/GB based ROMs. The haters said this device wouldn't run ICS, the great minds proved that it would. Now JB ROMs are running smooth!! My 2 1/2 year old phone is running android 4.1.2, while over 90% of new phones are still on ICS.
If you find a vibrant for sale, for a good price, grab it!
** Make sure its the t959 3g, not a t959v 4g. The t959v has a front facing camera, runs 4g*, and comes with inception on it.
But the t959v only has a 4gb internal SD card vs the vibes 16gb SD card. It is limited because of that, not nearly as many people dev'ing for it.
**very easy to root etc if you read and follow directions!
No tickee, no laundry!
I always go back to this device after using much more expensive ones for some reason. I don't like new phones that lack microSD slot and transfer using MTP mode. My previous S3 had MTP issues that cause transferring to be extremely slow and freeze up midway.
This thing run JellyBean surprisingly smooth. GPS just need an easy hardware fix. It can playback HD MKV videos without problems if you're using the right software. The only lacking thing about this phone is the GPU which can't handle new games anymore.
Side note, I just rebought a Nexus S because my Vibrant charging port broke, but it's actually not as good. Has issue with slow USB transferring with ICS and JB that haven't been fixed since forever. The camera despite LED flash is not as good and worthless for macro and nightshots. I don't understand this, but for a Nexus device, it's actually less stable than the Vibrant with reboots with stock roms. Also Semaphore kernel and its manager app for the Vibrant has more customization than the Nexus S kernels.
With that said this phone is getting dated. I'm still searching for a proper upgrade, with 4-4.3" screen, removable battery, pentaband or with 1700 and 1900 3g band, microsd slot, a better camera, higher than 800x480 res, and Cyanogenmod supported. I haven't found a device that meet these criterias yet, the Blaze come close and just got CM10 supported so it might be better to get than the Vibrant at this point. Looking at new phones, some missing features of the LG Nexus 4 is more if a backward step to me than an upgrade. The S3 mini looks more like a lackluster attempt by Samsung to cash off their S3 popularity, I might had been interested if it had a higher res screen.

i have t-mobile t959 vibrant which feels great to have. Yes I ran froyo for sometime since I was waiting for official updates which wasn't available till NOW. these guys doin amazing work getting new android versions on vibrant. I am running ICS on my vibe which looks great. no hassles. Yeah. It will run JB too definitely. **As samsgun357 mentioned make sure to get t959**
Grad a vibe n you will know what its capable of
tc
The t959 is way underated, especially with the quality of devs that have contributed. Cm10 is in progress, but thats the fun. Shes a honey bunny with a nice screen.

never heard of it
It's basically partitions out the internal card into however many slots you want, max is 4 I think. It uses 2gb per slot. Then whenever you want, you can go into TWRP and switch between roms.

I've heard of it, as I had it on my razr hd. But I don't see why when you can just have backups its so easy and fast to just be swapping backups. That's normally what I would do when there is 2 roms that I like a lot.

I did, and it was great. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they support much in the way of Samsung devices at the moment. As of mid-November they were working on support for the GS3 but I don't know what's happened to that. Apparently Sammy's partition structures are annoying.
I wonder it can work on the OG because I would love to try this.

Go and get yourself a Nexus 7, it's one of Canonical's targeted development devices.
I use my phone for making calls and other mundane but critical daily functions, so I am leery about experimenting with my phone; however, it's a different story with my n7 tablet. I can flash any available ROM and do unspeakable things to it and I am able to maintain my level of service for daily living.

There are two separate products.
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...buntu-for-phones-coming-soon-to-galaxy-nexus/
Ubuntu for Android which was announced about a year ago or so.
Ubuntu for Smartphones was announced yesterday and is a different product.
U4A = a dual boot type environment. when you are walking around it's an Android phone...when docked it's a full fledged Linux OS.
U4S = a full fledged Linux OS...no android at all.
i would love to see this in action. i expect the Carriers to be a big hurdle. AT&T and Verizon will not want to give up control over the handhelds on their network. but just like the ISP has no control over your device's in your home, i hope the consumers can eventually push hard enough that the Carriers go the same route. but to date AT&T still makes the manufacturers lock down their devices and if they could they would revert back to the days when rooting your phone was illegal.

Contemplating on buying the E970,
been comparing it with the Nexus 4 and the Xperia SP since they are the only phones I like in my budget. I'd like to know your opinion. I am impressed by the hardware of the phone, but I'd like to know a few things before I make the purchase.
Firstly, will I have issues with the network or any other feature using the AT&T unlocked version in India?
Also, is the notification LED on the E970 RGB?

Please for your own good, get the Nexus 4. Either that or live in the Nexus 4's shadow. If i could go back, I'd get the N4, you get pure and stable roms from Google and of course, you get updates faster
At this point in time, considering what the LGOG brings to the table vs the Nexus 4, I wouldn't buy a Nexus 4 but that's just me personally. Can't tolerate devices without expandable storage myself, so the microSD card slot on the LGOG just makes it a must-buy vs the Nexus 4, not to mention the addition of actual LTE support without jumping through hoops to get it working.
And considering even the Nexus 4 is now in a holding pattern of sorts to get the factory KitKat image, being a "Nexus device" isn't helping it be any better than the LGOG at all.

I don't get this idea of shadowing. If such way of thinking is correct, then every device is in nexus's shadow. I think the goal is to have a good working phone at the end of the day. This phone has a good variety of roms to help you get there: official supports of CM, Pacman, slim, all the unofficials and the very good stock rom. Also this uses sd card, nexus doesn't

Yep, made up 3 months ago. You should get rid of your OG if you got one so you don't have to be in the shadow
Dolby Audio really?
The sound on E970 SUCKS! I use a headphone amplifier but even with that the sound is crap. Dolby Audio really? I miss having a removable battery. Lastly, when the phone gets hot, there is a built in cap that limits the brightness of the screen. (Live in SoCal High Desert with summer temps of 110 F)
The quad core is fast and can handle quite a bit at one time. I listen to music while playing games, reading emails, cruzin' the Play Store and the internet all at the same time. Haven't had any crashes yet. There is plenty of storage internal storage. I have a lot of downloaded music and a few large games and have yet to roll over to the 16 GB external card.
Biggest disappointment is definitely the sound!!!!!!
Loving my LGOG. The sound is a bit weak. But everything else is great. I would recommend getting a best buy type warranty or a case for your phone. Gorilla glass is slippery like wet snot. I've had the back glass beak twice due to the phone sliding away and falling.
I'd buy it again.

i had HTC One VX with s-off practically since day one. there are very few custom roms for that model and only one aosp like which was cm10 but very early build. s-off is very easy, no need to do wire trick but i have done it to other older models like Vivid and Amaze.

Sorry, but would someone explain in brief what S-Off and S-On mean?
Also, I'm considering getting the Optimus G Pro instead because I find the looks more appealing and few extra pros over the E970. But the development there seems more or less stalled. Gotta risk it, I guess.

I'll try, others feel free to add upon this. Different manufacturers use different mechanism to secure their devices. With htc its "security-on", it restrict what hboot you may run on your devices. I had an htc evo v/ htc evo 3d, with security-on I could only run hboot 1.07.07.07 whatever which only allowed stock based ics roms. After achieving s-off I was able to put a different hboot on my phone , i had jbear 1.47.47.47 i think.. which in terms allowed me to run a lot more roms. S-on also restrict what you may flash. For example firmware and radios, here we call it modem? Don't know the difference, can't be flashed with s-on.
